I have been to a few all-inclusive resorts in Mexico.

Food:
The buffet food was similar to any other all-inclusive buffet. The food was warm and there was always something I enjoyed at every meal. The snack bar isn’t gourmet — burgers and fries are basic — but after a few margaritas it hits the spot.
Wings: avoid them. They were cold, dried out, and not worth the effort of ordering.

Rooms:
The rooms were clean and the beds were surprisingly comfortable. In our first room, the roof started leaking badly over the sink. The staff quickly upgraded us to a higher floor, although that room had a shower that wouldn’t drain properly. I have stayed in far worse places, and I wouldn’t avoid this resort because of the rooms. When we reported the issues, the staff responded urgently and moved us without hesitation.

Pool Area:
This is where the real problems were. Many guests leave books and resort towels on loungers to reserve them for their entire stay. As other reviews have mentioned, we discovered some loungers were still being “reserved” by guests who had left days before we even arrived. One elderly couple was reserving four loungers for the two of them — two in the sun and two in the shade.

The resort has a policy that everything must be removed from loungers at the end of each day, but it was not being enforced at all.

One night, a friend and I set an alarm in the middle of the night and executed what we jokingly called “Project Reset.” We removed all belongings (towels, book

People were saving chairs 24hrs a day. They would arrive at 930 and leave at 2. Staff did nothing about it when questioned. So with majority of the chairs taken around the pool and towels out all night it was obvious that cleaning of the pool area was not happening. Our room was 2 floors above the night club that went from 10pm till 2am every night. When asked to be moved to another room we were told 2000 pesos a night would be charged. After it closed the patrons would have a pool party till 3am. No security around to stop it. It was a very disapointing experience. We have stayed here before as well as many times at the barcelo in huatulco, and this was by far the worst experience.

Very helpful with lining up taxi's for daily touring. and also with getting us ready for departing to the airport. Food was good, the special restaurants were very good. They really stepped it up this year with the desserts! Love that they have the ice cream machine. This is our 5th year staying there, amazing views, we will be back!!

An overall good but older resort which had some quirks. Our bathroom had a constant sewer smell despite multiple cleaning/maintenance requests. Not a fancy room but mostly clean otherwise. The food was good with decent variety. The restaurants that you book al-la-carte were even better. Beautiful beach with small waves, easy for swimming.

The Barcelo is a nice hotel with a good location. The beach is flat, long and very walkable which we enjoyed. It was very busy and there was a lot of trouble finding an empty chaise in the morning. People were leaving their towels on them overnight. The staff were overworked and we felt hurried over our meals. The pool bar was full of the same group of about twenty people who were there all day every day and got louder as the day went on. The young people who organized the activities were great, Zumba, pool aerobics beach volleyball, they did it all. We upgraded to an ocean view room which brought the price up to more than what we felt it was worth. I think if we had gone a different week when it was maybe not so crowded it would had been more enjoyable for us. Overall we had a good week at the Barcelo not a great week.

All the evening and day shows are in full Spanish - would be nice to have some English words so you know what is happening.
Samba bar in the evening, also is all Spanish songs & speaking. Hard to enjoy when you aren’t fluent.
Beautiful location! Would definitely travel to Ixtapa again, although would try another resort.

This place was amazing. the whole hotel clean almost spotless...always someone cleaning or sweeping...The staff excellent, anything I asked for they tried or met my every expectation. The food plentiful and tasteful. The beach was just steps away from the pool. This place has no control over the weather however was there for 24 days never a drop of rain and very few or almost never any clouds. Never felt unsafe..always secured...Thank you for the staff. Edwardo best waiter and Paulina Adame the Concierge was amazing knowledgeable and so very helpful.

Friday night fiesta was wonderful! Felt the pride of Mexico!
Don't order a Mojito though, they use ground mint in simple syrup, feel like you are chewing a cow's cudd.

Overall the stay was great, staff was wonderful, food was overall pretty good, we liked the location it was nice to walk across the street which we did to watch some of the Olympics at the sports bars/restaurants. Our favorite was Shorty's they cater to the Canucks and their love of hockey.
The pool chairs were super uncomfortable, they to be replaced with ones that you can also sit straight up in. I spent most of the holiday in a plastic chair form the patio area as did alot of the guests.

The beautiful landscape, lots of pools, fun entertainment..
Our room attendant never made us towel art, while the 3 other couples had some really cute ones.also it took a couple days for her to mop up the coffee spot, and the outside patio table never did get washed off.
We discovered the pool with the waterfall over it, and pinky swore with Edward we would be back. He was the most friendly.
The main swim up bar was too busy for the guys working to serve to smile even.
I loved the view from our room ( 612 ) there were whale out there even!

The staff were consistently courteous, friendly, and genuinely helpful throughout our visit. When we first checked in, there were a few items in the room that weren’t working (safe, TV, and telephone), but to their credit, everything was addressed immediately.

One morning I noticed a small leak coming from the bathroom ceiling. Maintenance arrived within 15 minutes of my call and quickly fixed the issue (a clogged air conditioning tube). Very responsive service — that kind of attentiveness makes a difference.

The one ongoing frustration — and this seems common at many resorts — was securing poolside lounge chairs. I had to get up around 6:00 AM every day to try and find chairs, and even then, many were already “claimed.” Despite signage stating that chairs cannot be reserved, people were placing towels out as early as 10:00 PM the night before. Many of those chairs then sat unused until late afternoon. That system simply isn’t fair to guests who actually want to use the pool during the day. Management really should enforce their own policy.

The selection of à la carte restaurants was somewhat limited, but overall the food and experience were good.

In summary: excellent staff and service, a few minor room issues handled promptly, and a lounge chair situation that needs better enforcement. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

We moved rooms two times. First move due to no elevators in the first building. Second move due to brown liquid coming from pipes into the bathroom. All inclusive doesn’t include all restaurants, just two fine dining restaurants over an eight day stay. The fine dining wasn’t worth the extra cost of eating there again. Buffet dining was mediocre and nothing to get excited about, and wasn’t enjoyable for three meals a day. The oceans view were beautiful but doesn’t compensate the whole experience.

We had a great view of the ocean and saw beautiful sunsets everyday from our room. The staff is very attentive and friendly, food was great and the nightly entertainment was very enjoyable. The rooms are very clean and loved the minibar with water and soda refills daily. We came down on our honeymoon. We found the staff were very amazing. Everyone was so kind and accommodating. I would’ve given a full five star review but a couple things stood out to us that we found to lower our rating.
1. No one told us anything about the resorts many attractions when we arrived. They just signed us in and we were left to our own devices. My wife and I had to hunt down maps and figure out where everything was
2. The concierge times are unknown and not posted anywhere. We asked the front desk several times where the concierge was and they kept pointing to an empty office. We eventually found out they showed up at 9am (maybe) and stayed for an uk own period of time.
3. This resort uses a beach which the public uses as well. We were not informed of this at all. It didn’t damper our experience whatsoever but we found that we didn’t trust our things left j attended at all.
4. The bars are all staged times of open and closed. We had to figure it out our own way as there was no map or pamphlet explaining which bars were open when. Or restaurants

The good things!
The food on the Friday Mexican party was unreal. Best Mexican food I’ve ever had.
The bartender at the smaller pool (had braces, can’t remember his name) was amazing and super friendly.
Mr. Joy at the front desk helping with the bags was a delight!
The Barceló team made up our bed with lots of roses in a heart shape for when we arrived. I found that to be an amazing and thoughtful gift!

Property needs air conditioner in public areas/dining areas. Bathroom had a leak in the roof. Shower only had a half glass, water would exit the shower area and leak into the room. You had to be extra careful to not splash water everywhere. Air conditioner in room didn’t work well, was still somewhat warm inside the room. Night time shows were entertaining but need better fans/AC. Very limited options for dining. Similar foods every day. Could only do 1 “ special” dining reservation for every 3 days you stay at the hotel.

Barceló Ixtapa is a nice and beautiful hotel that can be very friendly for families.
I stayed with my family during a very busy month-week, which means a lot of noise, a lot of people and not much room to move around in common areas. Be mindful of that when you book, you want to definitely avoid high season.

Food was nice, although there weren’t many options and it became repetitive (to be fair most of the people stay there only a couple of days, so I guess the buffet doesn’t feel boring, we stayed for a week).

The hotel is very nice and safe. All the people that work there were very nice, polite, respectful and helpful. They take great care of the guests.
The swimming pools are wonderful and very pleasant.
I know it is hard, but I would like to see better maintenance of certain things that are getting old. I also would like to see a little better quality and flavor of the food, and I would’ve liked to have a cooler temperature at the main areas to eat.

Overall was good. We had thought we upgraded to a premium suite but turns out we only upgraded to a premium lounge which was a bummer considering we were on our honeymoon and wanted to go all in. Also the hotel lacked air conditioning in the main lobby/dining area making it a hot and sweaty dining experience. I don’t think we would stay here again.

We paid for all inclusive. When we arrived they told us we had to pay extra in order to get a better quality food and beverage. Without paying that extra amount they only offered low quality food and beverage.

Staff was unfriendly. They actually looked like not enjoying tyeir job. Staff just ignored the guests. We had to chase them all the time.

Furniture looked old and smelled very bad. Amenities in the room were very low quality.

I will never stay in that hotel again and I definitely don't recommend it.
