Horrible! Mould all throughout the shower. Pictures do not match the reality. My husband and I were so disgusted with the state of the bathroom we checked out and requested a refund. Front desk staff friendly and accommodating, probably because they’re aware of the conditions. Refund process through Expedia was perfect. Location is amazing. The bed was the only clean part of the room, and for that reason we stayed one night after travelling for 24 hours. Would not recommend

Hotel Avenida is a good place if you're traveling on a budget. The location is excellent. 15 minute walks to many sights, and 2-3 minute walks to a few different metro stations, and tons of restaurants and stores nearby. I recommend the pastry shop next to the hotel, as I stopped in every morning for a croissant or tortel chocolate before heading out to explore Madrid.

While the hotel is showing signs of wear, it is clean. The rooms are small (which is typical of European hotels), but bathrooms are a good size. They provide large towels and hand towels, but no wash clothes, so bring your own. This is also typical of European hotels. Also, other than body soap in a dispenser, there are no extra room amenities like lotion, coffee pots, or refrigerators. There is a small safe in the wardrobe. The beds are very firm, so if that's not how you like your bed, you may not find them comfortable.

The staff is wonderful. Most speak at least a little English, and are friendly. They provided recommendations for sights, maps, and arranged for a taxi to the airport. Overall, the hotel was perfect for my needs while my niece and I visited Madrid for 9 days.

Very good location in Gran Via. We walked to places, museums, restaurants, landmarks we wanted to see, and also near a number of metro stations. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The only thing is the walls are thin, you can hear people in the hallway but this didnt really bother us since we are out all day and pretty much tired and then sleep when we get back at night.

The room was as expected, small but functional. It did not have a refridgerator, coffee maker, or any place to obtain ice. My issue though, I should have read more thoroughly. The staff spoke minimal english, but were freindly all the same. The location was good and the windows did a good job keeping out the noise from the street. Not a fancy place but got the job done. No real issues.

I didn't have much interaction with the staff, but what I did have was very friendly and helpful. There aren't a ton of amenities, but it was comfortable and I was mostly there to sleep. I was able to check in early and nap for a bit. The dark curtains easily allowed that. The location was wonderful- only a couple minutes walk from Puerta de Sol or the Callao metro station. (Gran Via was closed for renovations while I was there.) It's on a side street from Gran Via, but there's still some city noise, if that's likely to bother you. Excellent food and coffee and shopping are very close.

The staff was extremely personable and helpful. We were allowed to store our luggage while we grabbed breakfast and then our room was ready. The room I was not tidy and the floors were dirty. The floors also creaked loudly with every step. There was constant noise throughout the night which did not allow for much sleep. It is close to the center of the city but we would not choose this lodging option in the future.

The hotel was situated in an idea central area for sightseeing, bars, restaurants, shopping and entertainment. The staff spoke good English and were friendly and helpful.
The room was fine, fresh towels everyday and quiet at night.
Could have used more drawer space, mattresses were very firm and although very clean it needed a little refurbishment.

In Madrid to attend a movie premiere at Callao.

I needed an inexpensive hotel very near Callao, and that is exactly what I got - Callao is just 2 minutes away. For the price, it was what can be expected. The staff were very friendly and the room was nice and clean. It's true that the beds are hard, maybe too hard for some. Also true that the interior of the room is showing a little wear. The floor is plastic veered wooden parquet, and in certain areas, water has got into the interior of the parquet panels and made them swell up in places. It's just an aesthetic issue. This is a common problem with parquet, in fact it makes you wonder why hotels use it, especially in bathrooms! However my priority was location and I was thrilled to be right off Gran Via, on a small side street that is nonetheless fairly quiet. I would definitely stay there again.

In the middle of everything

My wife and I are seasoned travelers who prefer small, local hotels over giant chains. We just want a clean, convenient room with comfy bed because we're not going to be in the room much. At a good price during a peak tourist week (EU Gay Pride was being celebrated when we were there), it was a bargain. We were in Madrid for a nephew's wedding, and decided to make a 10-day vacation out of it.

Terrific staff, short walk to major museums and to major venues, easy access to most Madrid subway lines. If shopping is your thing, lots of stores including Corte d'Ingles within a block or two. The picture shows one of the larger rooms. Ours was tight but we expected that.

Lots of noise from outside as Gay Pride peaked, but quiet inside. The hotel is a few doors off of Gran Via, a major Medrid east-west street that is undergoing construction for the next year or so, if signs are to be believed. So far enough from the mess.

We stayed at this hotel a couple of nights. The hotel is extremely well located in the center of Madrid, walking distance to great bars and restaurants. Staff was friendly. As for the room, the amenities were a bit used and old fashioned but comfortable. If you are not used to sleeping with noise this may not be the perfect place for you. Our window was overlooking the street and at night we could hear a few people still partying on the street but nothing too loud. Overall, this was good value for money! I would definitely go back there.

Fantastic location. Very friendly & accommodating staff who upgraded the room to a bigger one after our second traveler arrived. Rooms are fine for 1 person, but for 2 it's a little tight and I can't imagine more than 2 staying there. Clean but you can tell it's a little worn out & the furniture & decor, while hip, could be upgraded.
Overall great value for what you pay.

The hotel location was perfect!

Hotel was right on a side corner of one of the most transited street in Madrid (Avenida Gran Via)
Room was ok, clean, a little tight but ok for two nights, we didn't plan to stay too much at the hotel, convenient cafeteria right down stairs, service and food just ok, you can find a lot of very nice places in you way to Sol.
If you travel with friends bathroom doors wont give to much privacy when you need to go :) they stay kind of open cause they're glass doors.

Great hotel in a super location!

We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights. The location was great and the staff were very nice. It is just off Gran Via which has lots of shops and about an 8 minute walk to Plaza Mayor. We arrived at 11am and they checked us in with no problems even though check in was advertised as 2pm. Didn't have the breakfast so we cannot comment on this. The wifi was strong. Some may have found the rooms a little on the small size but as we spent little time in the room, it wasn't a problem for us. Would definitely recommend to others.

The hotel is ok good location interior of room is not good wifi was good in my room . price is higher for what they offer . no laptops or computers for guest common use for customer temporary purpose which nowadays most hotels offer. but in madrid there is nothing to see so incase you planning to visit here in madrid 1 day is sufficient to see and checkout next day .the museum sucks there is 1 park paid one thats ok and other is palace which just to see from outside and whatever things you see in tourist places they are not at all what a tourist want to see .dont waste your money staying here more than 1 day ..

BAD REVIEW WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THE HOTEL

The room was awful. The bathroom door did not close. The shower head did not work and to make things worse, the hand-held shower broke so there was water coming out of the bottom only. This happened the day before we left. The room's condition overall was depressing and deploring. The weather outside was on the cool side (not cold) the air condition was off throughout the hotel and the heater was on. When we went to bed we had to open the window to let a little air in and the noise was horrible.

Lastly, when I logged in to check my reservation about three hours before departing. I find an email, sent that same day, telling me that my reservation had been cancelled because \"they could not confirm my credit card\" When I called to find out what had happened, neither Hotel.com nor the hotel in Madrid could give me an answer. They then made the reservation again and they charged me like a new reservation which was almost double. When I go to Madrid I spoken with them and explained that I had had that reservation for months and they cancelled it without contacting me for additional information, new card, etc. whatever the problem could have been and no one was able to tell me what had happened. They did not take that into consideration and I had the pay almost double the price. So no! We are not happy at all with the hotel and I would NEVER recommend it.

The room doesnt even look like the picture. The bed is extremely uncomfortable and hard. The shower is not cover properly, meanning if you take a bath the water goes all over the floor that is why the bathrooms floors are all lifting up because of water damage. Every time you take a step the floor makes noises. The room is overpriced. I did not have a good experience that is why I made sure to leave the room early in the morning andcome back late at night

Easy to find and central location. Room was basic but clean, shower promised a lot but only seemed to work through the hand held attachment, my friend who had another room had the same problem but it was hardly a major issue. The little cafe is a good place to relax with coffee and churros. Would recommend as a safe option for a first visit to Madrid, the roads around are quite noisy during the night which was suprising as it was on a side street rather than the main road and the room next door to mine had a really creaky floor (or the people staying in it spent the whole night walking over the same bit).

Daytime receptionist should probably look for a new job as she's not really enjoying her position. Great location. Beds are okay but shower needs fixing. Liked the cafe downstairs and the nightime receptionist was very kind and helpful, particularly when I was suffering from food poisoning (not from the hotel buy a late night pizza kiosk nearby).

I stayed here for two nights with my dog, the staff were amazingly helpful. The room was furnished in modern style, everything worked! It is very centrally located to pretty much everything and lots of places to eat and get take away from. The cafe downstairs is good but only really does snacks and amazing pastries. But there again most places in madrid do!
My only slight gripe about the place is that some of the furniture is a bit tired and whoever decided to put laminate flooring in the bathroom obviously wasnt thinking of what happens when water and laminate mix. Safe but not the best looking.
My advice is stay here! Its way less expensive than most of the other places close by. Its on a quiet street yet 100 feet from one of Madrid busy ones.

The location is just right in the Centre, the employees are thoughtful and attentive, and the bed is not bad at all (it's not goose-down, customized non-allergic pillow, but come on!). For its stars, it exceeds the standard. Superb stay! I will be back for sure!

Hotel is in city center which is the only advatage, its less than 3 stars hotel, room is about 3X3 meters with toilet inside the room about 1.5X1.5 meters. Window open directly to the wall on next hotel. Breakfast are sandwish with juice&coffee. In general its very bad hotel wouldnt deserve half of the money i paid!!!?
