Despite a great location and friendly staff I wouldn’t recommend nor stay in the hotel again. Luckily it was only 1 night, would have moved if I was suppose to stay there any longer.
The room was tiny, view on the wall, scary, claustrophobic lift, dodgy and smelly entrance to the building. No soundproofing so I could even here the people next door snoring. Not a good night sleep and deffo not worth the price paid.

Secured and close to everywhere.

I slept really well, no noise, and good views at Sky 44 and even from my window. The only thing it is on the 7th floor and elevator had issues in addition of me not liking the small elevator I used the stairs in total 9 floors from the base. They close the door at midnight, but they say you can use your car to open the door. The only thing I did not like was there is no mini fridge.Make sure you get what you selected.

The room was very clean, had great size for 3 people, good beds, great big bathroom and 2 little balconies with amazing views. And all that in the heart of the city. We walked everywhere to museums, parks, shopping, restaurants, city's main landmarks. Highly recommend it!

La localizacion es muy buena, a pasos de todo. El aire acondicionado no se podia controlar desde el cuarto, hacia calor. Se escuchaban ruidos de otros huespedes. Subi varias veces los 7 pisos por las escaleras pues el ascensor tardaba en llegar y era pequeno. Cama comoda y cuarto pequeno pero para dormir ok.

El check in fue muy desordenado. Aparte de eso, no podíamos controlar la temperatura del aire acondicionado desde nuestra habitación y tuve que salir tres veces a pedirle al de recepción que si lo podía prender o bajarle por qué no estaba funcionando( en pleno verano), al final nunca enfrió.

The staff was amazing, the location was unmatched, and the breakfast on the rooftop was great. That said, we had constant issues with the AC. The first night it didn’t work at all, and the second night it only barely worked. Additionally, the elevator was a constant problem. One four-person capacity elevator serves the hotels on the fifth, seventh, eighth, and ninth floors. We frequently ended up just having to climb eight flights of stairs. Besides the elevator and the AC, we had no issues.

It’s no 5 star hotel but it did the job - right in the middle of town. Amazing views at the roof top. Walking distance to everything. So many restaurants and souvenir stores. Elevator only holds 3 people due to weight restriction so plan ahead. Hotel is on the 7th floor. No complaints at all. Only stayed in the room to sleep And shower.

La localización es simplemente perfecta, en plena Gran Vía, con acceso inmediato a estaciones de metro como Callao, Santo Domingo y Gran Vía. Además, hay una gran variedad de restaurantes, tiendas y comercios a pocos pasos, lo que facilita cualquier necesidad durante la estadía.

El personal fue muy amable y atento en todo momento, lo cual hizo la estancia más agradable. Siempre estuvieron dispuestos a ayudar con cualquier consulta o necesidad.

Aquí es donde el hostal tiene su mayor debilidad. La habitación era demasiado pequeña, y lo mismo el baño y la ducha, lo que hacía que el espacio se sintiera incómodo. Para estancias cortas y solo para dormir puede estar bien, pero si buscas más comodidad, este aspecto puede ser un problema.

En resumen, si la prioridad es la ubicación y un buen servicio, el Hostal Josefina es una opción excelente. Sin embargo, si el espacio y la comodidad son importantes para ti, quizás sea mejor considerar otras alternativas.

Loved the location and the reception staff was very nice, my only complaint is that the cleaning staff gets way too loud in the mornings, especially the older lady who seems to constantly give loud instructions to the rest as if she was arguing with them. Other than that, it would be a great choice.

Trouble communicating to the hotel staff

My son accidentally left his favorite stuffed animal on the bed. I tried to contact the hotel from the hotels.com support line within one hour after we checked out, as we will be in town until 2 weeks later. No one responded and I tried to call the hotel numerous times, but no one ever picked up the phone call. The stuffed animal is an old toy that may be worthless to others, but it was very special to my son. I am hoping the staff will be able to retrieve for us and we will be able to pick up in person before we leave Madrid.

100% would not recommend, lazy staff

I have never seen a man so lazy in my life, having arrived at this hostel, it was so dirty that I looked again on the webpage if I checked in at the same place I reserved, apparently I did, but they manage multiple hostels from the same counter, I looked if any other room at the same building was available at the hotels.com website, and they were, so I went to the counter and asked to upgrade the room, that I would pay the difference, anything but sleeping on that dirty room, the staff guy, who told me was from Cuba, and I told him that I haven't visited his country yet, proceeded to tell me that while he could upgrade the room, it was too much work and he didn't gain anything from doing so, and that the rooms were all the same (they were not), anyway, 100% would not recommend, better and cheaper places are available, just keep looking

Can't beat the location in Madrid city center! It's right in the middle and walking distance to everything, the hop on hop off bus stop is 100 m away. metro less than 50 meters.
rooms are small but clean, the front desk staff was helpful but not super friendly. The wait for the small elevator that serves several hostels in the building can be annoying when you have luggage.

Champions League Night

I stayed here for Champions League final night and it was a last minute booking and was charged £120 for the night which I thought was quite reasonable all things considered .
The location was very good right on a main road opposite Calleo tube walking distance to the centre etc.
The hotel is on the seventh floor of a building with quite a few other small hotels in it . There is a lift which holds four people but worked ok.
The room was clean and the shower room ok . It was small but as there was only me that wasn’t a problem .i didn’t go for the breakfast as there was a McDonald’s about 200 yards down the road.
There was no view from the window just a brick wall but again that didn’t really bother me.

Perfect location! Fantastic city view! Small but ideal balcony. Reception primarily speaks Spanish but it wasn't an issue. Rooms are not individually climate controlled but we were comfortable. This is a noisy location because it is central (like Times Square NYC). The room isn't luxurious but for the price & location, it can't be beat.

I personally didn’t stay, book this room for my father in law in a hurry but went the next day to pick him up, very centric, clean, the staff is helpful and he said that he room was clean, comfortable, big for what you expect in an hostal and they have a floor for break fast that is very cheap, also if you check out early can drop the bags on a secure place for only an euro

The only thing I liked was the breakfast at the rooftop. The property is overpriced based on what you get - very small room, clean bath towels but with spots, an extremely small elevator serving five more hostales in the building, no drawers to place clothing, etc. This property should be priced at 60 euros per night, not 180 euros. In general terms, very uncomfortable.

The entrance is a little daunting - but don’t be put off!! On the 7th floor you get a great view over the city and you are right in the centre on Grand Via! The staff are friendly and helpful the room was small but clean and the shower was great! Having the Sky Bar in the 9th floor was fab for a night cap and fantastic views over the city... would heartily recommend!!

Nothing wrong with the staff or the cleanliness but I asked for a luminous room. I understand this request are only met if available but I was given a room with a window to a small patio so I could not even see what the weather condition was like outside. No light at all. The machine outside only has sugary drinks, beer or plain water. No diet coke, which for someone with dietary needs (diabetes) is not on. But well, I got drinks outside, plenty of shops. Bed was quiet uncomfortable and the pillow a brick. Impossible to sleep with all the noise coming from loud cleaning staff, other guests banging doors, noises from other rooms... and works going on in the building. I guess you get what you pay for.

We were put in the handicapped room, which had a roll in shower. That was, honestly, the only complaint and it's hardly a complaint at all. It is 7 flights up, and the elevator is slow/up a handful of stairs so if you have accessibility issues be aware of that. The front desk staff were helpful, and spoke good English. We had no problems checking in, or getting our questions answered. The view was amazing, though. And the rooms clean and comfortable. Our room was cleaned daily, though they did throw away some sample packets of face wash my friend brought with her to use.

It was a nice stay even though they don’t let you check in early. I always put in expedia to check in early but they said they don’t have any available rooms. The housekeeping gave us attitude because we left our luggage and get ready in their tiny storage and bathroom. On the other hand, the room is clean and close to everything.

Nice location, perfect view! although the air conditioning is controlled by the staff so it was always or too hot or too cold. actually there was no problem when it was cold because you can adjust, but when it was hot.... He did a re-charge on my credit card without informing me. When I checked my credit bill, the original charge is actually correct. The warm water doesn't get very warm in the showers but the view was excellent and the staff was friendly. Lots of shopping and restaurants nearby. Clean room, good experience. I'd stay there again.

the hostal is centrally located within walking distance of most points of interest although the metro station is right outside and the hop on hop off tourist bus has a stop five blocks away . the place was recently renovated so everything is new. the staff is very friendly and will give you pointers on places to visit should you ask. it is kept very clean and there are places to eat all around. we were four so the room was very tight we had a bunk and two single beds so there wasn't much room left and the bathroom is very small specially the tub it is exactly like the cruise ships so if you are a heavy person it would be very uncomfortable. the rooms for two people are a bit more spacious but the bathroom is the same). there is a small vending machine at the entrance to get some cold water because there is no ice.

Perfect hotel in the center of Madrid

I spent 4 nights in this hotel with my girlfriend and we had a great time! The hotel is in the center of Madrid and walking distance to most of the things you'd like to see. A metro stop is just few meters down the street.

Room was clean with big bed and enough space for everything. There is also a small office desk to place your lap top. Although WiFi connection is really bad in the rooms, the lobby has a comfortable sofa where you can surf. All in all - we couldn't ask for more.

We had a room with a great view of the Gran Via street and Plaza de Callao. It is the noisy side of the hotel, but we loved it.

This hostal has an excellent location by Callao Metro and is within walking distance to many attractions, shopping and restaurants. We had an interior room which was fairly quiet. The room seemed cooled by AC when we arrived but there didn't seem to be AC throughout the stay. There is elevator access up to 7th floor location, with capacity for 4 or so people which is typical for Spain. Staff seem friendly and pleasant but speak only Spanish. Every time I had a shower the hot water seem to run out, and Wifi was slow and at times not available. Still I recommend this Hostal for its good value and cleanliness.

This is our second stay in this hotel and I love it. The people make you as a family and they treat excellent. The room is always clean, and nice and the view we have to the Gran Via is excellent, also the location is superb, you can walk anywhere to shops, restaurants, etc.

Hotel staff was friendly.

However, I am still unhappy with the fact that they deducted 1st night's payment from my card without any notification when it was clearly stated that I was only supposed to pay the full sum upon arrival.

There was free wi-fi available.

Access card expired after the first day and we required help from the reception to open the door and reactivate the cards for us. Not a big issue here as there is always someone there.

One downside would be that the heater is not on all the time and not through the night as well. we were so cold the whole night.

Location was excellent though. It was along the shopping street and Zara is just a few steps away!

Good Value for Money

The location is perfect, just in the middle of Madrid. The hotel is clean and maintained in a good way. It is a real good value for money.
Although there is a big heater inside the room, it is not working. The staff usually turn it ON from outside the room very late in the evening (after 10:00 PM), one day I had to remind them to do that by 12:00 AM.
The staff can't speak English at all, not a word!

Great Location & Great Value

Great location on Gran Via in centre of madrid, minutes away from all the sights. Great value for the location. On 7th floor of a building but with a lift. Hotel clean and tidy, free WIFI and helpful staff. Non English speaking staff but I managed to get by with zero Spanish. Only drawback is that there is no soundproofing in the hotel and you hear everything, if you're not a heavy sleeper then maybe not suitable. All in all, can strongly recommend.

The front desk at this hostal was horrible and rude, they treat you with no respect at all. The beds were ancient, squeaky and smelled bed. This hostal is located on the 7th floor of a building, and when the elevator is broken you will have no help at all with your luggage.

Don't stay here! Not worth your money.

In town for a workshop I just needed a bed, a shower and a good location. Right next to Callao metro stop on Gran Via this was perfect. Do not expect frills or anything more than the basics. Be prepared for a workout if the elevator stops working .. they're on the 7th floor of this building!

Recption a bit shabby and receptionist was not very cheerful but as he was there when we arrived at 10pm and at midnight and at 10am I think he was just tired!
Bed covers a bit dingy but the room was clean and beds quite comfortable. Could do with better pillows.
The location was very central - loads of bars locally so great for young people; Thankfully the room was quiet.

Elevator out and we had to get to the 7th. floor. We were told the elevator sometimes stops betweenfloors also.. We had to walk up to the 3rd. to get someone to come down to open the auxilary elevator which was locked. Several older people who had to use the restroom hadto try to make it up the stairs - too bad! My friend swears she got bit all over her butt and legs by something. Sheets had stains. Too busy almost dangerous feeling at night.

This was a clean convenient place to stay. Only downfall of this place is it is on the 7th floor with a questionable elevator. We were there two days and elevator only worked half the time. It is a very long climb with luggage! Other than that, rooms were clean and very quiet.

Muy limpio y funcional con todo lo necesario, el personal muy atento y resolvió todas nuestras necesidades. Ubicadisimo en Callao me encanta ese punto de Madrid. Hay muchos hostales en el mismo edificio pero este ha sido el mejor.

Tenía vista parcial al teatro Callao y tenía un bacon con la vista muy bonita, el baño muy limpio y la regadera con excelente presión del agua. El chico que me recibió súper amable y servicial. El elevador tenía buen tamaño para ser un edificio antiguo, la ubicación fue lo mejor, justo afuera el metro callao y caminando está el metro Gran via, llegué en metro del aeropuerto y prácticamente no camine más de 1 pequeña esquina. Maravilloso todo, incluso el pequeño desayuno en la terraza con una vista hermosa. Lo recomiendo ampliamente.

Llegamos pronto hicimos el check in y nos dijeron que teníamos que volver a las 15. Llegamos hicimos fila y nuestra habitación aún no estaba hecha, nos dijeron 15 minutos y al final nos la entregaron a las 15:35. La ducha bastante pequeña y solo nos pusieron 1/2 (medio) rollo de papel higiénico para 3 personas adultas, pero por lo demás todo bien. La ubicación muy céntrica y el desayuno muy bien.Las personas de recepción muy amables y buen servicio de consignas de maletas.

Habitación sucia, mal olor. Personal sin más. Nada cómodo. Pagamos habitación con vistas y nos dieron una sin ventanas. Lo único bueno la ubicación y la terraza. Buen desayuno.
