Cheap and cheerful accommodation just outside the city centre but close enough to walk in within 15-20 minutes.

I got a private room with a bathroom which wasn’t the best, but it was clean. The bed wasn’t very comfortable and the pillow had seen much better days. I ended up using my coat and stuffing it inside the pillow case just to plump it up. There is no kettle inside either.

The walls in the room are in need of redecorating due to a lot of scratch marks from suitcases and general wear and tear, given how busy it is, but you get what you pay for… it is cheap for a reason. Great location if you are not overly fussed about where you are staying on a budget city break and just want to use it to get some sleep. If you’re looking for something more upmarket, I’d look elsewhere.

There is a bar at the front which is decent, showing sports and has cheap food available such as hot dogs, pizza and fries. There is also a table football and pool table if that’s your thing.

For the price I expected exactly what I got and wasn’t overly fussed apart from the comfort of the bed and the pillow being quite poor.

Pizza machine on site is pretty convenient. Also, the soccer on the big screen 24/7 is a nice down time activity. If you don't mind walking, Berlin Central train station is 15 minutes away.

We stayed at this hostel in December and unfortunately we had an unpleasant experience: we were bitten by some insects during the night. The team reassured us that it wasn’t bed bugs, but it was still quite stressful.
On the positive side, the staff reacted very quickly and professionally — they moved us to another room straight away and even provided special anti-bed-bug bedding (I didn’t even know such a thing existed!). In the new room everything was fine and we had no further bites.

However, the situation scared us so much that when we returned home we had to steam-treat all our textiles, just in case. I really appreciate the hotel’s support and responsiveness, but it was definitely a worrying experience.

It’s basic as described. They can improve the check-in process, they have self check-in kiosks but don’t recognize hotels.com reservation numbers. The details needed could have been e-mailed me to fill in instead on the spot.

Room was ok. There were a bunch of students running riot on my corridor every night. They were running all over the place and knocking on every room in the corridor at 10pm. I complained but nothing was done by security. It was disgraceful after paying so much for a hotel. The teachers had no control over them and will never use them again. Thy spoilt my time at the hotel. Hope you do something about it and warn others and tell the hotel as will never recommend this place. Staff were useless even at check-in

This was an ok place to stay not far from Berlin central station. However, quite costly on this particular night. Staff were not friendly, room was not clean and only one bathroom available with a toilet for 8 people.
I’ve stayed in similar places in Germany which were much cleaner with better facilities.

Overall A&O represents the modern hostel, cheap accommodation, but no spirit.

They haven’t updated their self-check in to accommodate Expedia which would have helped them out as they were swamped at check- in, but the staff on hand seemed to manage.

Their common area washroom was under repair and the shower head in my bathroom shower could only point to the wall and nowhere else. Everything else was good though, but don’t expect to meet a lot of people as they don’t push that aspect a lot.

Stated at the a&o Berlin Hauptbahnhof from September 19 - 21 for the Berlin Marathon. They have a self-check in process using kiosk when you enter. This option did not work for me as the Expedia number and that which was on my Expedia confirmation were different. A member of the staff assisted me with checking in via the Kiosk and activating my door key. I was not satisfied with the cleanliness of the room that was reserved and my request to switch the room was met with satisfaction.

The room was very clean and my stay from that moment was exceptional. During my stay, I utilized local options at the Berlin Hauptbahnhof Station. I also utilized the supermarket Kaufland to buy groceries to refrigerate. Most items that I needed were walking distance(up to 3 mile walking), but transportion is accessible, if preferable.

Floor 0(Ground Floor) has a nice sitting area and there is food to order if needed. Breakfast if located on Floor -1(Basement) and options from whole grains(breads/roll), protein(meats), cereal, coffee, tea, juices are offered. I utilized the breakfast and a combination of my own food during my stay to meet my nutritional needs.

I was able to utilize the laundry before leaving. Laundry detergent was provided by the front desk and an app is needed to start the wash and dryer.

The staff were friendly and answered any questions that I had. The occupants of the room were all delightful. The neighborhood around the area felt safe, even at night.

Ok arrived and as expected more of a hostel than a hotel.. lots of young back packers by the door..
But I just needed something cheap and near the train station as I was leaving at 3am in the morning..
Digital check in and the young lady on reception give me a door key on the third floor..
Lift available.. again as expected and small functional room with en suite bathroom..
Two single beds..as requested..
Comfortable enough with clean sheets.. room a little warm as it was a beautiful day and the room had no fan..
Very happy with the shower and body wash.. only requirement for me..
Clean bed and a nice hot shower..
Maybe asking why have only given a general score of two..
As was leaving for the train and the airport at 3am..
11.30pm..the noise and the slamming of doors was horrendous...
Now I'm no grouch but after seeing that down stairs in reception is the following.
Pool table.. games room and music playing, everything a young person wants..
Large group outside seem to enjoy what was on offer..
Stayed in AO hostel hotel..in Antwerp recently never had the issue there..

When we checked in, the beds in the room had been used and the old linens were still on, and the bathroom was not cleaned either. So we asked for another room, which we were given. However, the new room also had two beds that had been used and not cleaned, and the trash can was full of garbage from the earlier guests, but the reception said there were no more rooms available that we could move to. The heaters in the room and the bathroom did not work, so it was cold in the room. The bathroom smelled like urine, and several of the lights above the beds did not work. In addition, the pipe under one of the sinks was broken and water went all over the bathroom floor, and the other sink was partially stopped up and drained slowly. Thank goodness the shower was hot this morning, and the breakfast was not expensive and plentiful. I am sorry to have to give such a bad review, but our party of 6 were severely disappointed with our stay at A&O and will never stay there again. I think we should not have to pay for such a bad quality and unhappy night and am requesting a full refund of the cost of our stay.

Blood stains everywhere. Not ours!

My adult son and I stayed one night in a room at this hostel mentioned above, in early December. We went to the room around midnight and immediately got ready for bed, using only the small bedside light to do so. When my son went to pull the duvet over himself, he noticed blood spots in several places on the duvet cover. As it was so late and we wanted to get to sleep, we removed the cover and used the duvet like that, intending to speak to reception the next morning.
When we got up on the Tuesday morning and opened the curtains, we noticed there was also blood on the bottom sheet my son had been lying on!. Further inspection revealed blood on the room floor and also on the bathroom floor!.
We left the room and I spoke to the duty manager about it, at reception. His response was to offer me two free drink coupons (not any use, as we were leaving anyway) and gave me a card with an email address on, to complain to.
We didn’t pay a lot for the night’s stay and while we didn’t expect a lot, we certainly didn’t expect someone else’s blood all over the room!.
I gave the hostel over a week to respond to my complaint, but to date I haven’t heard anything back.

We did not realize this facility was a youth hostel since it was listed as “hotel”. However, we had a nice but utilitarian room. It was good for our needs. However, it is in a residential area so if you are looking for shops, restaurants or nightlife the train station is your only option.

Did not expect much as I haven't stayed in a hostel since I was at school and when there were rooms for £15 a night j didn't have high expectations. Well I was surprised the bar was amazing and open 24 hours so despite me getting there at midnight it was buzzing. The self check in was difficult but staff were there.to do it old school. The rooms were functional and comfy (no keetle though) and very clean. The breakfast was nice, not fry up option but food was very well presented and tasty. Will definitely stay at one of these again

Our arrival on a Wednesday evening coincided with what looked like a frat party but for teenagers. Very large groups of high schoolers from different countries were staying here and making the most of their time away from parents.
Hanging around and rushing about outside, running up and down the hallways and generally being teenagers. That said the room was pretty quiet overall and it was clean. The location near the Hauptbahnhof is convenient and so overall the stay was good. Surprisingly, the Friday night was much quieter than the Wednesday and Thursday nights as it seemed most of the school groups went home on Friday.

NEVER again!

The room and breakfast were fine. The problem was security and noise. My laptop was stolen from my room the day I arrived. Hearing doors slam constantly, how often does one think of checking the door when you go out if it has an automatic closing mechanism. My door didn't close completely and within a few hours my laptop was gone. I reported it to management however there was little that could be done. BUT, they made NO EFFORT to fix my door and I was there 4 nights after the theft happened. I suspect this non-closing of doors wasn’t unique to my room. The first person I talked to at the desk asked me if I checked to be sure my door was closed. Why would I do that when it should be closing automatically? Was he generally aware of this type of problem with other rooms? Secondly, I made note of the problem to cleaning staff. While the individuals spoke no English, they seemed to be aware of the problem in their response. This is gross negligence on the part of a&o’s management. Remember, four days later it still wasn’t fixed. Also, the noise level was absurd at times because of slamming automatic doors, particularly in the morning when many were going to breakfast. No late sleeping for sure.

A bit of a let down.

It was quite lacking. The double bed is two single mattresses put together, and two single sized comforters that barely fit over your body. Basically they just put two of the dorm beddings in the room. The shower could really use some serious attention. Small black spots were in all the corners around the bottom, and I can only imagine it was mold or something else I don't want to know. The shower drain seemed to be a little bit clogged too. The toilet also had discoloration inside it, which makes it look like it had not been cleaned properly in a while either. Little bits of debris were on the floor in the room, and there were marks and stains on the walls. The lighting is terrible, dim, especially in the bathroom, the shower could use a light. The fixtures look like they're from a ship. The plumbing from the toilet kept making noises constantly... The kitchen is a joke, very small, lots of tools are missing.

It took a while to check in. They sent me a link to do express check in but after entering the details, they could not find my details. So i had to go to the reception which also couldn't find my details for a while. It took about 20mins to get check in done. Then at approximately 2.30am i had a drunk guy kept knocking at my door & i told him to go away, he kept knocking. Went away from a few hours & then came back at about 5am. Really2 annoying my sleep. It was pretty scary actually.

Ok price. Location is boring and there's nothing walkable or worth seeing except an Aldi's that's 10 minutes away. It's all residence buildings for kilometers The building was noisy because There was a large group of too many young junior high schoolers running around, being noisy and pressing buttons on elevators and it was annoying that the staff had no security or to calm them down. There was nothing interesting nearby so I believe that's why there were so many kids hanging out and running through the halls. The building is like a large institution with so many rooms and narrow hallways. The rooms are crowded. They also put 2 beds next to each other as if two strangers should sleep shoulder to shoulder, which was wejrd. Too crowded and disorderly and boring location. Chaotic environment. Wouldn't recommend.

I had booked a room in a shared dormitory- the bathroom looked like it had not been cleaned in a while, the shower was clogged, and my bed looked like someone had slept in it/ the sheets were missing. I feel like the adequate level of maintenance wasn't kept up and I ended up checking out early because I was so uncomfortable in the room.
Otherwise the building/area looked welcoming and the desk staff were polite and helpful.

Couldn’t recommend this place enough. Insanely cheap for the quality of rooms that they have. More amenities then any other place I’ve been that’s even been triple the price of here. Arthur at the bar and check in was really friendly and happy to help. With it only being a 10 minute walk from the HBF Main is a big plus.

Was not informed about the sheet rental policy when checking in which led to some confusion. Have to buy a 9E token for breakfast, but no one checks and a bit annoying if you pay and then see others helping themselves for free.
