Personalet var meget imødekommende og venlige, og tilbød os endda en gratis drink, da vores værelse uheldigvis var tilrøget fra nogle tidligere besøgende. Hostellet var tæt på gode lokale restauranter og på både u-bahn og sporvogn.

Stay for 4 nights and made these observations:
1. Beds aren't allocated and you have to guess what's empty - had two people sleep in other's beds as a result.
2. Rooms are supposed to be cleaned daily yet housekeeping only changed the bins. We literally had leaves and visible dust rolls in the room.
3. Half the staff were lovely, some of them it was difficult to get simple things done e.g. Asking when lifts would be working due to a disability
4. Didn't seem to think fixing a lift despite having a disabled visitor was a priority.
5. Supposed to be 18+ yet there were children staying for a school trip
6. Shared bathrooms and toilets needed more cleaning than the 2x a day.
7. Always get the bottom bunk, the upper is very squeaky and uncomfortable.

Other than that - i was lucky to share with lovely people who took privacy seriously and we created privacy curtains and looked after each other.

Had an amazing staff member who ensured the lift was working by my 2nd day there after asking others 3x and being told \"they couldn't have forseen\" it happening.

The day staff especially were lovely; even provided me with some left over lunch on my check in day. .

It's not awfully terrible, you just need to know not to expect much.

Very nice place, good location, not super-central for sightseeing but teams are just outside and main bus stop and train station are win walk away so it's easy to get around. Good facilities, excellent housekeeping.

I had a great stay here. They do free luggage storage and you can put bags in a locked room. The kitchen is decent size. The bed was comfy and the showers were nice. The only downside is the location, but it is right by public transportation and easy to get within the city.

Would recommend!

Very easy check in and out with friendly staff.
Useful shared kitchen with fridge and all basic cooking equipment.
Clean bedrooms and bathrooms.

Good location, nice walk into the centre of Berlin (about 30/40 minutes). Lidl only a 15 minute walk away.

This was our first stay in a Hostel. This was a pleasant experience. Good WiFi! Beds were pretty comfortable. There was no A/C, but we kept the windows open and were cool enough. Plenty of outlets! The ladies restroom was clean.

Good Berlin option, beware some internet problems.

Actually a pretty good hostel. I had two major issues. ZERO wifi in room. No signal strength at all even on laptop. In common areas signal strength is good. Also hostel was PACKED with 12-15 year olds. Not my cup of tea lol. Location wise its not bad, less than 1k to a metro. Nice game room and bar.

the hostel was kind of far away from where all the action was- it was nice the lobby area was 24/7 but not much to do here so I usually spent most of my time at other hostels or away. I also got kicked off wifi a lot.

Cheap and I would recommend it

I needed a place to stay for my early morning flight and this hostel is near Tegel Airport.

I arrived at Berlin Hbf past 7pm and took a bus to U Turmstr. Google map says that from here it would take 6 minutes to walk to the hostel but it took me at least 10 minutes. The streets on the way here are not well lit and not many people around so it's unnerving for a woman like me to walk alone at night.

The lounge area next to the reception was bustling with young people. But the hallways and the rooms themselves were quiet which is good. The toilets and shower area were clean. The bed was good enough for a night stay. Would have been better if there are lockers in the room.

Upon check-in, you'll be handed with clean bed linen. You have to make your own bed. And you also have to bring the used linen on check-out.

I paid 10€ for a taxi from this hostel to Tegel Airport terminal C.

By the way, it was my first hostel experience and I was pleasantly surprised to have had a good experience.

Budget comfort stay

Affortable stay. Hostel overall clean and nicely decorated. No problem with shared bathroom always available, probably because Jan is off season. Shared kitchen convenient for breakfast making. Location is easily accessible with public transport especially TXL bus to airport.

Some guest were inconsiderate at late hours and I didn’t feel like the staff at the desk did well at assuring guests coming back in late were considerate of other guests that were asleep I was woken up at very late hours multiple times. A noise curfew should be enforced.

Good deal for the cheap price

Amstel House does a great job of making a stay in a hostel as pleasant as it can be. That being said, it's definitely still a hostel. The bunk beds creak and there's no guarantee the people you're sharing a room with will be remotely respectful, though three of my four nights were still reasonably good for sleep. The inner courtyards are bustling with very loud deliveries, and with no air conditioning in the summer that means everyone facing inward is going to need hefty ear plugs to sleep past 8am. The beds were unexpectedly very comfortable, having a sink in the room was a nice touch. The location is fine if you plan to explore during the daytime, but if you're in Berlin to check out the night life it's quite inconvenient to get back to after the trains stop running .

Awesome staff. Super friendly and helpful. 24hr bar on site which was really nice! Tons of brochures, information and a huge map at the front desk for tours etc. Found that really helpful to have right when we arrived to plan our days. Clean rooms. Large windows which were nice to cool down the place at night. Only negative was that we were facing a back alley (where they loaded the kitchen supplies and food I believe) so we were woken up daily but loud banging. Beds and pillows were actually really comfy, better than a lot of the other placed we stayed. We had our own bathroom. A little small but worked well. Did have a large mirror in the room which was really helpful when 2 people are getting ready in the morning. They had hair dryers for loan which was really useful since mine stopped working. About 5-7 min walk to the train station so it was easy to get around. Close to a market place and a busy street with lots of businesses.

Overall we had a good stay and would recommend.

Great hostel experience!

Friendly staff! Good breakfast spread for only 6€. In-house bar with happy hour makes me a happy girl! They were also grilling burgers on Friday night, great for socialising. Very decent toilet/shower facilities that are cleaned twice a day, can rent a towel for 1€. Rooms come with lockers, but need your own lock. Near a market hall, supermarkets, u-bahn station and bus stops; easy to get around!

Very cheap and so value for money. Rooms had no air con or fans and so were uncomfortably warm. Local area is a bit far out from the centre but good public transport available. Staff we extremely friendly and helpful and willing to help with directions and suggestions. Lovely indoor and outdoor seating area to relax and have a drink from the very reasonable bar. Overall a lovely stay aside from the heat!

This hotel was well presented. Reception and bar staff very friendly. We never used the kitchen or facilties as we treated it as a hotel. There are a couple of bars close by which is handy if you dont want to go into the city. There is a U-bahn station 5 min walk away so very easy access to the city. It is close to a main street where there is takeaways shops etc. My only complaint was the noise, our room window overlooked the bar which was open late and the noise travelled. But thats to be expected i suppose.

Questionable neighborhood

Overall the experience was okay. The location of the hostelnis about 30 minutes walking from the Berlin train station. However, you will pass through a shady neighborhood and smell marijuana on a consistent basis. The rooms are spartan at best. Showers and toilets are male and female.

Security, did not feel comfortable staying here after some guy was knocking at our door trying to return one of my roommates missing key. He knocked and since everyone was in the room we shouted, \" wrong room\", he proceeded to open the door and give the key to the roommate who was sleeping. I don't know whether she knew what was going on since it was past midnight. Luckily nothing happened but it was a little unnerving to say the least.

The breakfast buffet wasn't worth the 5 euros you pay.

Other than that the hostel was okay.

This hostel was really cheap for the price but the room condition was disappointing. It was totally different comparing to the picture. The room is really dark and not colourful as the photo. It only had one plug in the room but I and my friend have 5 electronic devices that have to charge. I prefered to pay a higher price for a better room.

Probably get more than you pay for. I had a private room which was surprisingly spacious for one person, comfortable for a hostel bed, with a good shower. Only problem was the pillow was not very comfortable and the duvet very thin, but for a couple of nights this is totally fine.

Nice bar and dining room downstairs wirh friendly staff but could do with more sofas and less canteen style tables in the space to make it a bit cosier.

Location a bit far out from most of the interesting places but 5-min walk from u-bahn station to take short journey into the city.

Best Hostel ever!

It was one of the best hostels that I've stayed in, staff really friendly, play room with ping pong tables, good people staying in there, and good location by metro. The only thing is that you don't have internet in the room, but it is good, because you have free internet in the waiting room, where you can meet a lot of good people and it's pretty comfortable. They force you to go there to connect with people, so it's really good!!

If you just want a bed for the night, where you can come and go as you please, which is close enough to the city centre (even though there is plenty of places to eat and drink on your doorstop), then this is excellent value. It's ok for families but more geared towards backpackers and singles on a budget. For the price, it really is excellent value.

My friend and I arrived late night due to delays, however at almost midnight the hostel lobby was still energetic. There were many services provided on location, the staff was friendly and helpful. The negative would be that wifi connection was limited to the lobby area, which was inconvenient if you wanted to do some travel planning or connect with family or friends before resting ... given the noise level and volume of people in the lobby area.

A Decent Option for the Price

The bottom line is that this is a youth hostel (although not all its guests are youth). If you don't mind dealing with linoleum flooring in the rooms, dorm quality furniture and dorm sized rooms then there is nothing wrong with it. I stayed in a private en suite single room (not a shared hostel style room), so my experience is based on that. Would I stay again? Sure, if I got the same inexpensive deal that I got on this stay. Would I stay here with family? Most likely not -- they, I am afraid, are used to more luxury. I, on the other hand don't mind being reminded of the good old, down and out days of my student life every once in a while when I am traveling solo. I should stay the front staff who also doubled up at the café/bar were all very friendly and into the spirit of a place like this. The U-Bahn was about a ten minute walk away and so was the TXL airport bus. So convenient enough.

Minimal requirements...

I stayed one night. It did have heat in the radiators, but the shower had NO water pressure. And the \"free\" Wi-Fi is ONLY available in the lobby. You will not get it in your room that you have to walk two flights of stairs to get to. And when you do get the Wi-Fi, the reception is so bad and slow, it was not worth it.
I would only stay here again if I was desperate and had NO other options.

If one does not mind the college dorm feel, then this hostel is wonderful. The bar is cheap, breakfast as well. Lots of people hanging around to talk with. The rooms are a bit spartan, but that's to be expected. Bathrooms are communal, but sufficient in number to present much of an issue. My only complaint is the wireless internet was only available in the lobby and was less than reliable.

I stayed at the Amstel Hostel for one night only as a stayover before the Berlin Marathon - Having booked 11 months previously, I was lucky to have reserved a 1 bed/shower room at a very reasonable price. I'd recommend the Amstel Hostel, for the fantastic friendly service, the facilities, the cleanliness and the location.Defintely would stay there again for the same reasons.

Wie schon bei den anderen Bewertungen beschrieben war die Sauberkeit leider nicht vorhanden . Es sind zwar Reinigungskräfte rumgelaufen aber das war's auch schon sauber gemacht haben sie nicht .
Das Frühstücksangebot war OK aber für den Preis kann man lieber außerhalb frühstücken.
Alles in allem wir wusten worauf wir uns einlassen und für uns war es nur wichtig in einer nahen Umgebung zu sein um alles gut zu erreichen .
Allen die mehr wollen müssen es selber wissen ob sie sich darauf einlassen .

Skønt hostel i rolige omgivelser med sødt personal

Et rigtig fint hostel. Sødt personale og fine værelser. Hostelet ligger i et dejligt roligt område tæt på offentlig transport og selvom der var gang i baren om aftenen, var vi ikke generet af det.
Meget glad for vores ophold og vil gerne komme igen.

War in einem Vier-Personen-Zimmer untergebracht. Meist blieb ein Bett leer. Man konnte dennoch - ohne Schnarcher - gut schlafen. Die Umgebung - Kneipen und Markthalle - war sehr ansprechend. Die U-Bahnstation \"Turmstraße\" nicht allzu weit entfernt. Das Personal war freundlich.

Mangelhafter Komfort und Servie

Preisleitungsverhältnis sehr schwach. Einzelzimmer gleicht einer Zelle und ist lieblos eingerichtet. Kein Service. Bettwäsche sollte selber abgezogen werden, kein Frühstück im Preis enthalten. Zimmer sind eng aneinander, sodass man trotz Einzelzimmer keine Ruhe durch Lärm der andern Gäste findet.

Ein frühzeitiges Einchecken wurde ohne vorherige Prüfung kategorisch abgelehnt. In der Nacht hat der Mitarbeiter uns gedroht, dass er uns rausschmeißen könnte, weil wir samstagnachts (!) alkoholisiert im Voyer waren. Ein absolutes no-go, wenn man sich nicht unverschämt und auffällig verhält!

gefallen hat mir die Freundlichkeit des Personals am Empfang. Nicht gefallen hat mir hauptsächlich die Enge im Bad. Wenn man schon in einem Zimmer mit 3 fremden Personen schläft, benötigt man doch zumindest einen Rückzugsraum, in dem man sich umziehen kann. Der zur verfügende Raum war aus meiner Sicht dafür nicht ausreichend.
