The lobby is gorgeous, the staff are incredible and great communicators. The room itself is on the smaller side, decor and furniture appears to be older but extremely well maintained and very clean. Opening up the balcony door helped make things feel a bit more spacious for 3 people in a room this size.

Otherwise, easy access to Shinkansen from the hotel. Limo bus from Narita drops off right at the front of the hotel but I didn’t use the airport shuttle. Didn’t get to explore too much of the surrounding area except nearby 24/7 7-11 and food court/halls. The hotel 7-11 does close late at night.

I really liked the surrounding but I might choose something closer to a Yamanote line stop next time.

Staff at reception is the first contact point. Towards foreigner guest, the service is lacking due to language barrier as the understanding level is different. They tried to be patient towards listening to my needs and queries which I appreciate but the personal touch is not present compared to serving the Japanese guest. That is what I have observed. It is still a good service overall given the reputation of Japanese hospitality which is imprinted on internationally as one of the best.
Room is spacious as chosen. Attention to details by housekeeping needs more improvement. Overall , it is a good stay. Location to station and amenities is closeby. Shuttle bus service to different drop off points around the compound is much appreciated.

Beautiful room, lovely tub aswell. Staff wasn’t the most friendly, but it was a very busy check in so it makes sense. Such a beautiful garden in the back as well. Went to spa the sukura in a different tower and it met expectations for sure. Expensive, but great way to end the trip!!

Staff are friendly and helpful, 7-11 inside hotel is very convenient. Location is central, 5 minute walk to Shinagawa station, which connects to most major train lines. Note that it is a bit of a slope to walk between train and station, so maybe challenging with luggages, but they do offer free shuttle to Prince Hotel which is a short flat walk to the station.

Am not sure how this hotel got 5 stars to be honest! I

Cons:

- hotel lobby smell like salami 24/7
- eventhough every japanese we met through our trip was helpful and kind, this hotel managed to get the least japanese oriented staff on check in and check out counter, never smiling, not helpful, barely recognizing your presence like they are forced to do their work
- no one helped us getting our luggage into the hotel and up to our room
- we paid 25 usd during check out for amenities that we dont know hat they were and was too tired to argue about
- rooms are small
- asked to change one of the room from single to double but the only reason I got that they cant do that is the fact i booked through expedia
- empty refrigerator in the room

Pro:
- Clean room
- Seven Eleven within the hotel
- Tully shop within the hotel for a good morning coffee

The poor rating is based on the fact the hotel is listed as 5 stars. I would rate it higher if it was listed as 3 or 4 stars.

This hotel is a familiar sight on television, and even the attitude of the staff you pass by is one step above, making it a modern, first-class hotel that is admired by the Showa generation, both now and in the past. The garden is magnificent, the largest of its kind in Tokyo, and the tranquility and uniquely Japanese architecture and plants make it easy to spend an entire day just strolling around the hotel complex and the area around Shinagawa Station. Shinagawa Station is easily accessible via the JR Yamanote Line, Keihin-Tohoku Line, Sobu Line, Shinkansen, and Keikyu Line. The surrounding area is in the midst of development, with many shops opening in the shopping arcade. Only Narita Airport has a shuttle bus, so considering the ongoing construction work in front of the station, this is recommended for those with large luggage or children. Reservations are required.

Staff were amazing and accomodated our request for a quiet room. The Sliders Restaurant has the best breakfast buffet. There is a hotel guest discount, but you must apply for the Seibu Prince membership via QR code. No cost for the membership. Be prepared to walk up a gradual hill to get to the Shinagawa station. This was the trade off for a hotel away from the crowds.

10min walk to Shinagawa Station (a little uphill). Lobby is spacious and nice but rooms are a bit dated & in need of a refresh. The housekeeping staff were really helpful and nice. The reception staff were also helpful and nice. There is a Tully's Coffee open from 7am (unusual in Japan). We were able to ship our snow gear to the hotel (for a fee). And we had a nice view of Tokyo skyline including Tokyo Tower

The condition of the room was fine. The staff were generally helpful and service was decent. The size of the room was smaller than expected considering there were two adults and two children. Did not realize this was a huge business / convention center type hotel so it had a lot of guests coming and going. It was nice to have an attached 7-11. The overall area seemed very quiet and subdued since it seems the area of Takanawa is mostly for business travelers and not so much for tourists.

This is one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had, and I rarely ever write reviews. The rooms are old the bathrooms smell of mildew, the common area including the gym is absolutely underpar, dirty, and unacceptable for what is supposed to be a five star hotel. This is not a foreign friendly hotel, incredibly deceiving in terms of presentation to reality.

This was a very nice and clean hotel. However, we were there in January and it was extremely hot. There’s no air conditioning and if there is, she said it was off during the winter. We had to keep our siding glass door open during the night to be able to keep it cool enough to sleep. There is a sister hotel right next-door that does not have the word SHIN in it. My friend stayed there. They had AC so I would recommend it over this one. Breakfast is $35 so not the best place to eat, especially if you like American style. There’s not much to walk to in the area. The only place to get an ultimate breakfast would be 711 that is located inside the hotel or taking a cab to McDonald’s or somewhere else. So it is a beautiful hotel. They had a nice restaurant for lunch or dinner. I have nothing bad to say except that it was way too hot in there and again you couldn’t really walk anywhere to eat. they do speak English there so you can function, but they do not understand much at all. If you have to ask any difficult questions, lol. But you’ll check in and out just fine :-)

This was my first time in Japan and am very happy I chose this hotel. The hotel is in walking distance of the train station and dining options. I looked forward every morning to taking my morning walks in the beautiful garden. The Tully's coffee shop they in the lobby area is a must do, drip coffee is to die for. The hotel is very clean and well as the room I stayed. I look forward to return to this hotel in the future.

Insufficient lighting in this hotel room. No bedside lights and no reading lights. Only overhead ceiling lights in the room. Prince Hotel Shin Tanakawa is located on a hill slope. For elderly or seniors, this hotel is not suitable to stay because of the location. From Shinagawa station, after crossing the street, hotel guests need to walk up the hill slope to reach the hotel. Too tiring for seniors, and definitely cannot walk up the slope with shopping bags or luggage. Need to take a cab. No wonder this hotel has a restaurant named the Slopeside restaurant!

The check-in process was unduly complicated by the staff's unwillingness to provide fundamental information, such as our floor and room number, which they responded to with irritation and frustration.
On another occasion, we asked a different woman for help translating for our taxi driver to ensure we reached our destination, but she was initially uncooperative and dismissive. While the men were very helpful and kind to my sister and me, the women at the front desk and most of the concierge staff were also rude.

Good points:

Near Shinagawa Train Station - Recommended for tourists travelling via Train/ Shinkansen.

Hotel is well maintained, with great surrounding and facilities. Shuttle bus to other prince hotels (opposite shinagawa station is a major plus point.

They provide newspaper services to your room daily, do let them know that you don’t need this if you don’t want to waste paper!

As usual, Japanese hospitality is great. They upgraded my room and allowed me to check in early. I’m grateful for this.

Bad points:

Some of the front counter staff were rude but I think it could be either due to the language barrier or because I’m Chinese/ looked like I’m from China.

I don’t blame them, just sucks to be Chinese in Japan at this moment.

Room service didn’t clean up as much as I expected them to e.g replace soiled glasses on some days, but it could be the different service standards between the crews on shift.

Staff was great, service was pleasant and they went out of their way to help me with my concert tickets that arrived there prior to my check in date. But rooms are super outdated and we had broken air conditioning so room was getting hot we had to open the door to the balcony. The shower curtains are so weak they don’t keep the water inside, so when you shower you have to dry the floor. The fitness center was only equipped with 4 machines (2 old treadmills and 2 old bikes) the best part of the hotel was the Japanese garden at night. I don’t see myself staying here again. It’s a bummer because the location is super close to the shinagawa station.

The hotel is very nice. Indeed it is a 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ star property, but you can tell it’s quite old property. But it is NOT a negative factor because they kept and maintained it very well. The room was nice, clean and spacious. We had a room with cute round balcony and view of Tokyo Tower 🗼 that was very nice to finish our trip this way. The Japanese garden between hotel towers is just amazing. It is a must to take a walk during night in the garden. It’s very beautiful and zen. The subway station is very near as well.
