Very pretty property in a very secluded beautiful wooded location. The owner is an extremely nice person that has gone through recent tragedy in life and all support is appreciated. The property has a hippy vibe. It is not far from the town of Port Douglas but will be a 15 minute drive.

The owner has two Australian Cattle Dogs (Blue Heelers) that are extremely friendly, beautiful, and very intetilligent. They are quite fun to play with.

serene and romantic stay

We had a phenomenal stay at the Mai Tai. Not only were the views incredible; the room super romantic (with a very cool outdoor tropical shower); and the location perfect for exploring the Great Barrier Reef, Mossman Gorge, and the Daintree Rainforest; Andre (the host) was so warm and welcoming that we felt right at home from the moment we arrived. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a serene and romantic stay in the most gorgeous rainforest location.

A wonderful tranquil tropical resort. Fantastic location and André the owner is a wonderful host and a warm soul. If you want to relax, but also have a base that is central to everything, this is the place. 5 stars is not enough.

Beware. I was surprised and disappointed that after a snap lockdown in Victoria and boarder closing in QLD no compensation was given or credit for a future stay. The request was unkindly dismissed. This was the first very negative experience I’ve had across three continents during this pandemic. The proprietor made our lockdown experience much more painful through our conversation.

Not a resort, bed and breakfast, shower is outside

Just about everything is not as described in the listing --very disappointing. I seriously question the authenticity of the other reviews. This is not a resort, not a hotel, it is a bed and breakfast. Breakfast is fruit and coffee (better described as continental breakfast). The rooms are semi-attached to the owners' home, they are constructed of cinder blocks with fixtures from home depot and decorated with hung pictures and knick knacks of asian culture. The shower is outside and crawling with bugs (god forbid other things like snakes!!). The pool is seemingly unusable, I would not have gotten in as it didn't appear to be regularly cleaned. In short, this is a bed and breakfast, operated by two very friendly gentlemen that also live there. It is a bed and breakfast, it is not up to even a 3-star hotel standards and a very far cry from a 4-star resort as advertised. The listing should be reclassified to bed and breakfast to reflect reality. Also, the listing should state that the shower is located outdoors.

Friendly and relaxed hotel in a jungle paradise

I cannot commend this hotel highly enough. We were in Port Douglas for a week and decided to go for an accommodation away from the crowds. We could not be happier with our choice.

Andre and Anthony are exceptional hosts, always there to help with good insights and local stories. They are a lot of fun to talk to.

The hotel is located in the slope in the middle of the forest so it is very quiet with nature sounds. The swimming pool is very relaxing and has great views.

A car is almost essential to move around, as the nearest restaurant is in Mossman 5 km away. Breakfast is very good at the hotel and it was included for us.

The only minor downside for us was that our room could have had more light during the day. I think all the rooms have an outdoors private area though which largely makes up for the low light in the room.

Once again this was probably the best accommodation I ever had in Australia.

Stay at Mai Tai if you like to be surrounded by lush greenery of the rainforest, waking up to the sound of birds chirping in a unique setting with awesome hosts. We had the most relaxing 4 days in Aug and would definitely stay there again on our next visit to Far North Queensland...next time we will stay longer.
It is secluded so you will need your own transport and it will help to arrive during daylight. Breakfast is delightful when you have awesome views to accompany the fresh fruits, fluffy croissant, home made jams and great coffee that is served on the gorgeous verandah. If you like your fur babies, ask Andre to introduce you to their beautiful and very well behaved, sociable Bernese.

Location is up on the hill slope where you get a view of the sugar plantations every morning. Andre and Anthony are the best hosts you could ask for. They offer the best guides and suggestions for visiting the sites around the area. Enjoyable 5 days we spent here.

Peaceful and Relaxing

Anthony and Andre are wonderful and gracious hosts at this luxury Bed and Breakfast. It is beautifully decorated with a fabulous view. The bed is comfortable and the shower wonderful. They really go the extra mile to make their guests comfortable. Our only complaint is internet access in the area is intermittent but that is a problem in Queensland right now.

Wonderful find!

I planned to go to Port Douglas but every decent place to stay was booked out. But then I saw that there was one room left at the Mai Tai. From the photos it looked pretty good.

Well, I'm so glad Port Douglas was booked out. Because this is a way better place to stay (you need a car though).

Your hosts are truly marvellous people, who have built something very special over the last 14 years. Decorated in Balinese style, the buildings are beautiful. The views are spectacular, particularly if you go 10 km up to the top of the hill on which the Mai Tai is located. There are only six rooms here, so the combination of the hillside location and the peaceful sounds (mainly birdsong) make for an incredibly restful stay.

Your hosts are wonderfully knowledgeable and friendly and every recommendation they made about how I should walk in the Daintree, get to snorkel on the Great Barrier Reef, or just where in Port Douglas or Mossman I should head for dinner, were unfailingly accurate.

My only problem with this review is that it may encourage even more people to stay here, thus making it more difficult for me to get in next time. There will definitely be a next time and, I expect, many more after that. Brilliant!

Personal and Peaceful in a great location !!

We found Mai Tai to be a very personal experience with fantastic hosts !! A great location far enough away on the edge of the rainforest but close enough to port douglas and Mossman . It was exactly what my husband and I needed a peaceful place to chill with no kids !!
The breakfast was just as amazing as the view !! Highly recommended and look forward to revisiting .

Picturesque, tranquil resort

We enjoyed a five night stay which definitely recharged our batteries. As opposed to many soulless, sanitised places Mai Tai resort oozed with charm and love that the owners/managers have invested in their business.
They were attentive and caring and had great knowledge about the area and advice on excursions and recommendations on some attractions to see.
The gardens around the resort are stunning and there were many little corners with comfortable seating to read etc without having to sit in your room. A private courtyard and lovely pool area were also a great bonus. Hopefully I will return there to enjoy the ambience, view and wonderful hospitality again.

Restful stay in the rainforest

Mai Tai was everything we expected and more. Lovely welcome by Anthony and Andre set us up for a delightful 6 night stay. Bali themed, the room was very comfortable and so lovely and clean. Brekkie every morning was gorgeous fresh fruit and warm croissants along with happy chit chat about all sorts of topics. Anthony and Andre know so much about the surrounding areas and are very helpful in booking tours and giving some advice on what to do next. 10 mins from the famous and beautiful Mossman Gorge and 15 mins from Port Douglas, Mai Tai is situated in the perfect location. Up in the hills you overlook everyone with an amazing view but you're not far from anything. Delightful and restful stay - we will be back.

Unusual boutique hotel

Boutique hotel in nice location with excellent views. Personal service from very attentive staff made the stay extremely enjoyable. The only very minor annoyance was the traffic noise from the nearby road. There is not much traffic, particularly at night. Other than that, the resort is very tranquil and relaxing.

Mai Tai mountain retreat

What an amazing hidden treasure. Up in the mountains, surrounded by rain forrest, far away from the madding crowd, though only a 5 minute drive from civilisation. Run by 2 friendly attentive gentlemen who are a wealth of knowledge on the do's and don't's of the area. They were able to recommeng great tour choices and then book them for us.
The rooms were a little slice of paradise with Kingsize beds and tropical courtyards, clean and well equipped.
Breakfast served each morning on the terrace overlooking the mountains and ocean, was a relaxing way to start the day. We were greeted on each return from a day out with questions about our day and if there was anything that we needed. Exceptional experience. Would go again in a heart beat.

Mai Tai - wonderful views and exceptional hosts

Anthony and Andre were exceptional hosts. Nothing was too much trouble. They made suggestions of things to do and gave wonderful advice. They advised us to take travel calm before we left for our boat trip to the reef - which proved to be very helpful. They gave great restaurant recommendations. They were there to help us park and greet us when we returned. We felt very safe and comfortable.

Highlands retreat with Mountain to coast views

Mai Tai resort was more of a bed and breakfast run by two generous, informative and vivacious guys. Breakfast was great, with an outstanding view and lounge areas. The rooms were generous and kept very clean, and with your own little courtyard to relax as an extra benefit.

Mai Tai is the kind of place that really does grow on you.
The first day you are there, it's a hotel, but by the end it's kind of more a home away from home.
The staff are so lovely and friendly that like you are with friends as opposed to somewhere like a hotel.
Beautiful views, lovely food and great company.

A taste of Bali in the Australian Rainforest

We had a blissful three night stay at the beautiful Mai Tai resort in the hills above Mossman, North Queensland. There are only a few rooms, with a private outdoor pool and lounging area, all decorated with authentic carvings and furniture in the Balinese style. Our room was stunning and the whole place was a peaceful retreat - just what we needed after a few weeks of travelling the country. We could not do justice here to the view from the breakfast terrace across the rainforest terrain down to the coast. You have to see it to believe it. Andre our host was charming and knowledgeable about the area, and recommended some excellent local restaurants. (One, Mojo's Bar and Grill in Mossman was superb - so good we went twice). I have specific dietary requirements and Andre made sure I had everything I needed for breakfast, catered just for me. We really enjoyed feeling so pampered and looked after. There is plenty to do and see in the local area but we also made sure we had one day just for relaxing in and around the pool. It was so fantastic we didn't really want to leave. Maybe we will be back one day...

Comfortable hotel with friendly staff

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Mai Tai resort for 5 days and 6 nights and we had a wonderful time. Andre and Anthony run a lovely hotel and were very kind to us and eager to accommodate. Fresh fruit and croissants every morning for breakfast, plus the friendly hotel cats and dogs add character to the stay.

The location is great - it feels very peaceful and secluded, but is also very close to Mossman and Port Douglas for dinner and tours.

MAI TAI is definetely one of the best resorts I have been to!!!
Highly recommended, especially for couples looking for tranquillity and relax.
Kids are luckily not allowed and prices are very reasonable.
Not recommended if you don't have a car.
The 3 cats and 3 dogs made the experience even more special!
