Freestyle is NOT your average hotel or apartment rental! It is the best of both worlds. Family of 4 stayed in 2-bedroom x 5 nights mid-summer wet season, with day trips to Daintree and to reef dives. ANNE is the local friend you didn't know you needed! From grocery and restaurant tips, to loaning a USB adapter to offering to exchange $1 coins for the on-site washer/dryer facility, SHE is what turns a good holiday into a REMARKABLE one! Room, property, parking and pool all stellar. We will be back in Port Douglas again to stay @ Freestyle!

Family holiday with 4 month old

We had a fantastic stay at Freestyle resort. Excellent location, walking distance to shops, beach and marina. Our room was clean and had everything we needed. Anne was lovely and very helpful, providing us with a porta cot and baby bath for our 4 month old baby. The pool was great, our baby had her first ever swim in it and she loved it. Would definitely stay here again when visiting Port Douglas 😊

Had a great stay recently at Freestyle. It's clean and comfortable and the rooms had everything we needed. Pool was heated, which was nice. Location is great, only a short walk to the beach and not much further to town. Anne was super helpful with information about where to eat, tours, transport and anything else we asked about. Would definitely stay her again.

The location was perfect. We walked to the main strip. Parking was convenient but not easy if you have a large car. We had are own balcony which we took advantage for eating meals.

The pool is also lovely.

I was concerned at first at the cooling system. There was an a/c unit and a fan in each of the main rooms. It felt warm when we first entered, but I was able to sleep comfortably.

The property was dated and overpriced for what it was. We arrived for our 5 night stay and the room we were given had a tap that wouldn't turn off in the bathroom and would Hebel kept us awake overnight. When we reported it we were told they were aware, but didn't get it fixed as they didn't want to have to turn the water off. Did not offer resolution until I asked if we could swap to another room. Limited power points, in bedroom, pay laundry only at $4 per load. Bathroom fan didn't work, lounge fan faulty. No dining table, no oven. Every footstep or noise from room upstairs could be heard. The upside was that the pool was fabulous

1 br unit was a little on the small side. Not much room for clothes, bags. Bed was a bit hard for us but the shower had good pressure. Kitchen is tiny but full size fridge and good pantry size. No fly screens on any window/door which was annoying. Pool was heated and warm enough to swim even though the weather was cool. It was pretty good value comparative to what else was available in PD. Manager, Anne was lovely and helpful. Walking distance to town and beach and reasonably quiet. Parking was an issue with only 10 spaces for 32 units? On street parking had difficult access.

Rustic but charming and close enough to be able to walk to main area with restaurants and shops. We enjoyed our stay!

Family trip to port Douglas

We had a wonderful stay at the Freestyle resort. The owners could not do enough to help us. Their communication before and during our stay was fantastic. We had a family room (2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms) which was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed with a lovely balcony overlooking the pool. Free underground parking, a laundry, a a few mins walk into town. Across the road from the beach and safe swimming area. Absolutely loved it!

Loved our stay at Freestyle!

My daughter and I had a wonderful two-week stay! Everything was provided as needed including pool towels which was great. The managers Anne and Jason were most hospitable and were willing to assist with anything at all we needed. They made some great recommendations for us for activities and places to go around town. The pool was warm and fantastic for my daughter with the shallow sides and deeper channel down the middle. The pool area was so relaxing, with plenty of shade, tables and deck chairs. For families also booking a one bedroom apartment, there is a sliding door that closes off the bedroom and also a fold out sofa in the lounge. The kitchen is very compact but had everything we needed, including a microwave with grill and convection oven. Washing machines are available downstairs at $4 a load with spare racks available for hanging clothing to dry in your room. We had a comfortable, enjoyable and hassle-free stay and would absolutely recommend this accommodation to others. Thank you so much Anne and Jason for your kindness during our stay!

The hotel was a couple of minutes walk from the beach, 15 minutes walk to the main restaurants/shops and marina of port Douglas. The place had a very cute and friendly atmosphere.

We loved the great kitchen facilities for preparing and cooking meals. It has fans and an air pump to cook the rooms. Freshly decorated and a small 10-15 min walk to town. The pool is handy if you want a change from swimming at the beach. Lots of information is available for trips and tours. We enjoyed our stay.

I stayed at Freestyle for eight nights and cannot recommend it highly enough! It's in a great location, just seven minutes' walk from town, and my self-contained apartment had everything I could have wished for, from kitchen utensils to ironing board! It was clean, bright, modern and very comfortable. 



The resort itself is run by Anne, who I can't thank enough for everything she did for me whilst I was there, from recommending the best tour companies (and she was spot on with every recommendation) to organising tours and shuttle buses for me at short notice, nothing was too difficult for her, she was fabulous.



I have already recommended Freestyle to others, it's that good.

Anne made us feel so welcome, from the moment we stepped out of the cab. We stayed in a two bedroom/two bathroom apartment. it was very spacious and well equipped and very clean. The pool area was clean and inviting, somewhere nice to relax. I have no negative feedback, as this property was lovely inside and out.
I would have liked a tv in the bedroom, but that is not a criticism only personal preference. A note of a recommendation that I would have liked is to maybe have a vending machine, with soft drinks and snacks. I think that this could be a viable asset to the property. I would highly recommend this property with no hesitation. Thank you for making us feel so very welcome and valued. xx

The Freestyle is the perfect location with only a short walk (5-8 mins) to either the beach or the shops. Anne, our host, was great and the 2 bedroom apartment was ideal as it also has two bathrooms and with 4 females getting ready at once it was a godsend. Facilities, amenities at the Freestyle were ideal. The apartment itself had everything we needed for eating in too like crockery, cutlery, dishes etc and Anne had left a welcome pack of milk, tea, coffee so we could have a cuppa after our trip. Toiletries were also provided, hair shampoo and conditioner and soap and tissues.

The 2 bedroom apartment was clean and well presented. We had en-suites attached to each bedroom and apart from a dripping tap these were great. The lounge and kitchen were small but all we needed. The location was excellent, just a short walk to the shops, beach and restaurants.The weather did not disappoint, warm days and cool nights. The managers were friendly and always available to help. The pool and spa were both well maintained. We enjoyed our stay and look forward to visiting again soon.

Had a wonderful stay at Freestyle Resort, Port Douglas. Everything was as advertised. Very comfortable room, bed very comfy and a lovely deck area under cover to enjoy whatever the weather. Anne was always available and very helpful. Pool area is a lovely place to relax. Plenty of wildlife around the units, which were fun to watch. It is just a quick walk into town so you do not really need a car, and there are shuttles available if needed. Overall, a very enjoyable stay and recommend the units highly.

No complaints - but NOT a 4 star property

Firstly, there was nothing wrong with our stay at the Freestyle, and the price we paid was extremely cheap, so the apartment was good value. However, the property is advertised as a 4 star property (and on the freestyle website it claims 4.5 self rated). This is simply incorrect - it is more like a 3 star place - in terms of room décor, services, comfort and amenities etc.
The room was fine, but smaller than appeared on the website photos, in particular the kitchen which is really just a kitchenette (convection microwave and hotplate). The bathroom is somewhat dated and a bit awkward. A kingsize bed was a bonus. The room was clean, however, be aware that it is not a serviced property. The owner, who was lovely, did say we could pick up new towels etc if required. The pool area is nice, though quite small and not a lot of daytime shade, so not really ideal if you are looking to lounge by the pool all day.
Location wise, it was a little further from town than ideal - 10-15min walk, as most of the action is over by the Marina. Next time, I would stay on Macrossan st itself.

We requested for early check-in and was granted by the Hotel owner, Anne. A very nice, helpful, courteous and friendly lady with a ready smile all the time. We were awed by the coziness and cleanliness of the guest room. If you are looking for a Hotel that is value for money, look no further. Location is another plus factor as it is about 10-15 minutes walk to the shopping malls, beach and restaurants. Could not find Hotel initially as there is no signboard on the main road.

From the time we arrived Anne mafe us feel welcome and showed us to our room. She spent tome showing us our room and how everything works as well as lots of tips on places to rat and things to do.

The apartment was immaculately clean and well appointed. The location is within walking distance of town, the beach and marina.

The pool and BBQ are brilliant and we spent a lot of time there.

I have no hesitation recommending Freestyle as a great place to stay.

I spent 4 nights at Freestyle Resort as a solo traveler. Anne, one of the owners, could not have been more helpful in getting transport for me when I was stuck at Cairns airport. The room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable with air conditioning and a ceiling fan. The kitchen was well equipped, as was the bathroom. Anne was also very helpful with advice on restaurants in Port Douglas, shops etc. and where to get good photos of the native wildlife. The hotel is a short, flat walk from the centre of Port Douglas and is set back from the road. I had a room at the back which was very quiet. All in all I was very pleased with having chosen Freestyle and cannot fault it in any way. I would definitely recommend it.

We were greeted on arrival by the site manager who was so friendly and after completing formalities she took us to the apartment and ensured we were happy with how everything worked. She then spent time helping us organise the trips we wanted during our stay and booked them all for us. She certainly exceeded our expectations and it is this high level of personal service that confirms the deserved excellent rating.

Resort has potential but overall disappointing

Overall I was disappointed with my stay at Freestyle. The couple that run the hotel are very nice and try and make you feel welcome and were mostly very helpful.
My issue was that we had a number of problems with the room. The aircondition leaked water, the diswasher didnt work properly but the hygine of the room was very disappointing. The cockroachs and insects were all through the room.
The outside facilities at the hotel are very nice and well maintained and the location of the hotel is near the main street.

The Appartment was equipped with everything that was needed for self catering. Ann the onsite manager was a font of information about the Port Douglas area and was a bonus. Pool was clean and we were able to swim as opposed to dipping in the water.The position of the Appartment was excellent and close to the 4 mile beach after a short walk through a park. Lots of cycle lanes/5 and 10 km runs from the front door....Excellent.

Anne and Jason are warm and friendly people, they treat you like a long lost friend and go above and beyond. I highly recommend Freestyle resort to any traveller. If I ever get to go back up there they will be my hotel of choice. Lovely facilities. I travelled without my children however they are very child friendly and even provide kids toys for the pool. We stayed here in \"off season\" so it was very quiet. We would tour around in the morning and then relax by the pool in the afternoon. We cooked most meals and snacks in the room and it had everything we needed. Anne booked all our tours directly at the front desk which was very convenient. I would highly recommend this place. Could'nt have asked for better. Ann was very welcoming, informative and helpful throughout our 7 day stay (not that we needed much apart from extra sugar as I love my cups of tea!). Apartment was very clean, decor fresh and furniture was as new. Pool area which included spa was great. Just a 6/7 minute walk to all the restaurants and bars of Macrossan Sreet and Beach. Local shuttle buses stop at bus stops for a minimal charge ..went to wildlife habitat cost two adults $9 each return (just phone when ready to be collected) Ann put us onto a hire car company which again could'nt fault ...took a day trip to
Daintree Rainforest ( a must do!) If we visit beautiful Port Douglas again (with our two boys next time) will definitely stay at Freestyle Resort.. Michelle & Paul

Resting in the tropics of North Queensland

We stayed at Freestyle for 3 nights and it was perfect for us. Not too far and not too close to the downtown area and the beach, we could walk everywhere. The owner, Anne, was very accommodating, and the other guests were friendly enough. For the price, this very good value and suited our needs in every way.

Very spacious apt-style rooms.

We loved Freestyle. The rooms are more like apartments. Lots of space and everything you need if you choose to cook at home. Clean, comfortable, and very spacious. Highly recommend.

A beautiful quiet place to holiday

Our stay at this hotel was very enjoyable. Very short walk to main street and the shops and cafes of Port Douglas. I would definitely recommend this hotel to my friends and family. We will definitely be back. The hotel management was excellent and bent over backwards to make our stay peaceful and enjoyable.
