We come every year and just love the quiet peaceful relaxed vibe. Adults only is the best, you can totally switch off and enjoy your break. Shantara is close to everything, can walk easily to the beach, marina and shops and restaurants/cafes/bars. Tours pick up at the door.

So So at Shantara
Our room was quite small on 2nd floor, but would have been more spacious without a round glass table & 2 chairs between bed and balcony doors. TV was installed on kitchen bench so only half of bench was able to used. I dropped an apple, which rolled under the bed, and was apalled to see how dirty it was under the bed. Plastic bag, thick dust and other bits of rubbish from prior guests. Obviously no cleaning checks in place. Pools also needed deep cleaning or repainting as had brown patches on bottom. For the number of units there was a lack of sunloungers, only the units on ground floor were catered for. Noisy when guests were outside on decks as you could hear conversations when balcony doors open, which we did not want to do day and night. Staff were helpful and friendly and the overall look of the property was great.

We also struggled to get any pool time as there’s only about 8 loungers and they were occupied most of the time.
The complex is a little in need of some maintenance (broken and missing tiles etc).
Otherwise we loved our stay (second time here)

The perfect place to stay! There is lots of parking available if you have a car. If you don't have one, don't worry as it's a short walk to the port, shops and restaurants. The hotel room we stayed in was really clean, comfortable and roomy. There was also a washing machine and room spa which made the stay even more perfect! Overall, it was a relaxing stay as the place is really quiet and relaxing :) We would definitely stay again if we came back to Port Douglas!

There is always a but however... the bed was hard and uncomfortable, it was similar to many hotel/apartments where the bed appeared to be two singles joined together with a larger top mattress creating a higher section in the middle.

The hotel had all of the amenities, fridge, washer/dryer, utensils etc. & a great location half way between 4 mile beach and town center. We were there off season (January), so nothing going on. Nobody in the pool (too warm), Staff & reception only around 9:00-3:00. Probably much better in July. Hotel is showing its age. Mattress was past “plush” appearance dated. Internet was weak, that may have been due to the weather

Outstanding property. Self contained unit where you can prep breakfast or an easy dinner if you don’t want to eat out every meal. Two great pools that are really quiet and peaceful. Perfect place to relax and unwind. Lovely, helpful staff too. Really close to the Main Street (Macrossan St) with all dining/shopping within a 5 minute walk. Loved it, we’ll be back

Great location within easy walk to four mile beach and all restaurants and shopping. The studio is comfortable, away from the Main Street so quiet. Balcony overlooking the pool has a table and two chairs so very pleasant. There is a washing machine and a dryer just outside the unit, and washing powder can be purchased at the reception desk for $2:00 for a small sachet
On the whole, it is a nice place but could use a little renovation- there is mold around the shower floor and around the sink, the comforter, although it is covered by a sheet is pretty badly stained. Small nuisance but certainly not expected in a prestige resort.

Our room was perfect for our 4 night stay, quiet, very clean and bedding and towels good quality. Our 2nd floor room overlooked one of the swimming pools so nice outlook. Short walk to the wharf, the main shopping/eating area and 4 mile beach. The receptionist was very friendly and polite. Would definitely stay here again.

Had a lovely stay at Shantara Resort and would visit again. We went in off-season so it was quiet and often got the pool to ourselves! The room was a great size, nice and cool and an excellent amount of storage space so you can actually unpack your toiletries and other knicknacks. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the resort is spotless. I recommend paying for the lower level room so you can walk straight into the pool, we were on level 1 and had FOMO for the lower rooms. The only negative for me was that the bed and pillows weren't that comfortable. Also, our stay did not include turndown service, you need to pay extra for that - if you have a long-ish stay, make sure you keep that in mind.

Shady business practices
Cyclone Jasper and massive flooding hit the Port Douglas and Cairns just before our arrival. The airport was closed and flooded, and the road connecting the airport to Port Douglas had been washed away. We heard nothing from the hotel, nor were they reachable by phone. After a statement from the government that residents should only use water for emergencies, decided it was irresponsible to try to go up. yet when we emailed to cancel- they were suddenly responsive, and quick to let us know that we'd get no refund. So even the resort had no running water- we were responsible for the full payment. I'm assuming that the complete lack of communication prior to check-in helped ensure that they help no liability for cancelations. We will return to Port Douglas- but most certainly not to Shantara.

Don't get me wrong Shantara on the surface looks great , also close to town and shops restaurants, lovely massage faciliities (seperate ownership to resort)BUT they are not great at little things and some Major annoyances.
Major, the site is next to a worksite with constant noise from labourers, this was never communicated to us. This will disappear once site is finished but bloody didn't help us..
Major, access to deck chairs (4) with afternoon sun was only avaiable by creeping around pool deck. Gate access locked. There is a pool on other side with only 4 available with sun during the day, another few at BBQ end.
