Room was clean, pool areas were clean (pool itself had quite a few leaves etc but the weather was windy and we understand it's difficult to keep on top). Location is fantastic, so close to the main strip for shops, bars and restaurants, but tucked away enough that it's quiet and calm.
Reception staff were incredible, friendly and informative.
We will 100% stay here again

Lovely relaxing stay. Rooms a little tired but very clean and comfortable. Avoid unit with shower over bath as dangerous to navigate but a few rooms have been changed so just request walk in shower when booking. Stairs to units but we managed no problem. Comfortable bed. Able to self cater well enough whilst also short walk to Main Street and many restaurants and pub grub. Great pool area x 2. Very handy Location. We would stay again as reasonable rate for Port Douglas central. Staff friendly and helpful Thanks for a relaxing stay Hibiscus.

In a great central location. Within walking distance to shops, supermarket and eating cafes and restaurants. Staff were very friendly. The gardens and pools were well kept and very inviting. We used the BBQs which were clean and looked relatively new. Parking was easy. Our unit was ideal for the two of us. Kitchen a little small but adequate and well equipped. Bathroom looked recently refurbished, modern, fresh and clean. Bed was very comfortable and lounge area was also very comfortable and well equipped. No hesitation in returning to Hibiscus Gardens. :)

Grounds are beautiful . Wonderful pools and atmosphere. Close to beach and walking distance to shops and restaurants. Great location.
Some reception staff don't demonstrate good customer service while others helpful . Felt at times was being nickled and dimed. Charged for toilet paper and doing laundry. Think given cost of staying this should be included as other apartments don't charge for this where we have stayed. Didn't think apartment was that clean on arrival and no room cleaning with apology they don't have staff . Should at least place sanitizer in apartment and mop or swifter so we could clean ourselves.

We loved our stay at Hibiscus. It is such a beautiful resort with a very Balinese feel to it. Jenny was absolutely lovely and welcoming, you can tell she is passionate about what she does. Hibiscus was so close to everything in Port Douglas literally walking distance to everything, the beach, the marina, the shops and the restaurants which made it so convenient as we were travelling with a 1 and a half year old baby. The pools and gardens here were amazing and well looked after, nice to relax in after long days out and about. Only negative is we found 2 cockroaches in the apartment and the lounge could use a clean but other than that all was good!

The perfect place to relax for a week

Hibiscus was a beautiful place to relax and unwind. Location is perfect with easy walking distance to everything in town as well as the beach and the marina. We especially loved the semi-private terrace extension from the living room where we spent many hours enjoying breakfasts and dinners. And both pools at this resort are beautiful…clean and inviting at any hour. Oh, and the bed in our room was super comfortable! We slept amazingly. Thanks for a great week.

I liked the free onsite parking and the fabulous reception staff. The pool was amazing. Our room left a lot to be desired. The bedding was outdated and the beds themselves very uncomfortable. The starter pack of soap etc is great but having to go to reception and pay for more is not. Paying for pool towel hire isn't cool either and not typical of most hotels. There is no glass in the windows. Just screens and shutters so no outdoor noise is blocked out and you're either in the dark without natural light or you're hot because you can't close a window so the air con does nothing. Never been in a hotel like that. Not a lot of thought went into guest experience there. The tvs are tiny and really should just be wall mounted. There is no safety switch for the stovetop hobs in the rooms so I was constantly monitoring my 3 year old to ensure he didn't switch the stove on which isn't very relaxing for parents. There was no clean towel service and there's no extended reception hours so if you leave early and get back late and need something - tough luck. There's also no phones to call reception, you have to walk down there basically.

Great place to stay , for us the little kitchen that had everything we needed to cook , The uses of the BBQ areas was great they had 4 x Webber Q BBQ and this was a nice way to meet other guest of the hotel, the 2 x pool area are very nice we used this every night as the pool was open to 10pm , The rooms where nice very QLD style/ Bali looking , the art work was out-dated but had everything we need , I find most places in QLD are out-dated like this, Free under cover parking close to our room and only 5 min walk to main street with everything you will need and more. I would stay here again. we are a gay couple and found this place gay friendly. The Hibiscus is perfect for couples that want a small home with everything , family's and gropes of friends. This was a great home away from home for 5 nights we stayed.

All Staff were very helful, the grounds guys who kept Hibiscus looking wonderful and setting up the tv for us; also really enjoyed the continental breakfast, more pastries and savoury treats this year compared to last year which I loved. Room servicing occurred seamlessly and the air conditioner and the BBQ were functional, very important in this environment. Shabby chic is a good description!

OK the good! Handy to town. Great pool. Excellent continental breakfast. Now the bad! Chairs incredibly uncomfortable. Had to sit on the bed which was average as well. On our last night a rather large cockroach ran along the wall which freaked us out as we don't have them where we come from. The next morning there was one on the shower floor which I killed. As we checked out we mentioned our experience and the receptionist was extremely unconcerned and passed it off as being nothing unusual. I made a complaint when we got home, and the service manager opoligised sincerely, but the whole experience left a bad taste, which is a shame as it is a nice wee town.

It had a lovely Balinese feel to it. The rooms were a comfortable size. It was a shame that daily cleaning of the rooms was not provided and that you had to pay for a pool towel. You had to pay for tea and coffee supplies to be topped up in your room. For the price I would have expected basic hotel service. Sorry but we won’t be staying again, as it’s those little things that make it feel like a holiday and not like you are still at home.

We loved the location. Great walkable distance to the shops, restaurants and four mile beach. The gardens have a stunning Balinese feel. My only suggestion is to bring your own pillow if you can. Pillows were so soft with no support. It’s oniy a little thing but it affected our sleeping.

What worked well: great location, well maintained property, lovely ambience throughout, two distinct pool areas, jet spas, excellent floaters, pool furniture and bbq facilities, in room overhead fans and recycling options appreciated. Even better if: mattresses in the room I stayed in need upgrading - perhaps some toppers. For guests wanting to self cater on a short stay, providing small pack oil, butter, salt and pepper would be really helpful.

tropical balinese looking oasis

This hotel has a warm cosy tropical feel about it. It was close to main road, shops and the beach and at the same time it was quiet and private. While the rooms were clean I wish they would update and refurbish their rooms as they have a dated feel about them. That is all that is needed to make this hotel a standout in Port Douglas. Staff was helpful and friendly. I would definitely stay there again.

This was our second week-long stay at the Hibiscus. Lovely place, a short walk to the main drag, but still reasonably quiet. Design gives good privacy, with Balinese styling, good pools, helpful friendly staff, comfortable rooms, pleasant ambience. Don't have a bad word to say. Thoroughly recommend Hibiscus for couples and families. We'll be back.

Balinese style resort

We spent 4 nights at the Hibiscus resort, using it a base for day trips in the region. It is an excellent location close to Port Douglas shops and a short 300 meters stroll from 4 mile beach. The hotel setting with its Balinese styling and lush tropical gardens produced a pleasing aspect to view from the private balcony facing the courtyard. Being winter we appreciated the two swimming pools were heated and they were popular with families.
The bedroom was internal and dark which we liked. The only downside for us was the room cooking facilities which were basic compared to other self catering apartments stayed in.
An uncooked self serve breakfast set under covering by one of the pools was available each morning, which suited us well. Overall we enjoyed our brief stay.

Apartments were great and had everything we needed with our 6 month old baby boy. Slightly dated but still really clean and comfortable. Continental breakfast was basic but satisfactory. Pools were great but wish they had have been heated a little bit warmer!
Location is great as you’re right in the thick of town with shops and 4 mile beach with 5 min walking distance. Would definitely come back!

This is not a hotel, all the apartments are owned privately and so vary in quality/state. When we first arrived our room was not at all up to scratch. Thankfully the manager was able to move us immediately to a much better room. The pools and other shared areas were great. Breakfast was lovely, though it wasn't always ready on time. This resort is in a great location for Port Douglas.

Jenny at Reception was amazing. Generally very good and comfortable.
Rooms were a little dated, not cleaned at a all in the 4 days we were there, and the layout was awkward as people walking past could see right into the bedroom if curtains not closed. And only a very firm double or queen bed a little small.
Overall very good and even included BBQ facilities if you don't want to eat out all the time.

$200 per night and they make you pay extra for the pool towels. Unbelievable! Don't bother staying here. There are plenty of better places for the same money. We got sucked in by the pretty photos. Don't make the same mistake.

The little things count!

After an overall positive experience really the two only negative things that can be said are:

1. Our bed wasn’t a king sized bed, it was two singles pushed together and dressed in king sized linen.
2. There was one particular staff member who just seemed constantly uninterested and acted like her job was an obligation.

Besides that everything else was absolutely awesome!

Beautiful Balinese feel, well located and good spa, warmly furnished but the bed was just, not quite springy (though we did hear a sound like that) but definitely felt thin, just two beds stuck together without a joiner on top and very bouncy- not quite the romantic landing we were hoping for. $1 pool towel fee was also not great way to be greeted on arrival, does it mean that much? Could it just be charged to the room fee? Loud leaf blower also started half an hour before check out and breakfast finished half an hour before too (9:30) until 10:30 would be best as per a holiday schedule.

I stayed in a studio suite on the first floor over Christmas / New Year, so it was a quieter time to go, warmer and more humid. The room was quite pleasant, pool and common areas attractive and overall had a nice stay.
Best bits were the pool areas as there were enough areas to chill out in and around the pool.
Included breakfast options were quite limited, WiFi limited to 7 MB per week, but there were a lot of places in Macrossan Street to eat and I spent a lot of time at the beach and the pool, so it didn't matter a lot.

Average hotel close to the Main Street...

Unfortunately from the moment we arrived it seemed like everything was a little too much for staff. We wanted our room cleaned mid-stay (staying 5 nights) and it had to be checked because they apparently changed their terms recently to only include a clean after an 8 night stay. We were happy to just have fresh towels and that seemed like too much effort. It was eventually done after returning to reception to check. The rooms were clean but the common areas (stair wells leading up to all the rooms) were filthy!!! There was dead bugs and dragon flies in them from the moment we arrived and they were still there when we left! The fire alarm went off at 5.30am one morning and no one had any idea what was going on as there was no staff on site. Apparently it was a false alarm and since reading more reviews I have seen this is a common occurrence. Breakfast was ok. If included in your package then somewhat worth it but I most definitely would not be paying the price it is charged at - it was very basic, Cereals, toast, juice and a few pastries. We opted to eat out most mornings even though it was included in our stay. I would say this place is 3 stars at most! The pool areas were lovely and like being in a tropical paradise. Probably the best part of the stay. It was also located quite close to the Main Street which was a bonus.

Central resort

Walking distance to town. Lovely pool and big spacious rooms. The breakfast is only toast, fruit and cereal so if you want bacon and eggs, bring them and cook them in the kitchenette in your room.

Tropical holiday

We loved the Balinese theme of the resort, the heated pool (30+degrees) and the location being one block back from the main shopping area. The resort is compact but has a good feel. We had a 2bdrm apartment and this apartment is a little dark as the second bedroom has no internal window. But all rooms are different as our previous 2 bdrm apartment was totally different. Breakfast is minimal but adequate. Could do with a second tea towel.

Good Location

Great Pools. Easy walking distance to beach and shops. Great to have breakfast included which we enjoyed by the pool every morning. Spa bath was great.

Great location

Located close to town and beach. Loved the breakfast area outside by the pool. Pool was too warm as the temperature was around 28 degrees every day a cooler pool would have been nice.
