It was a pretty hotel with lovely views. The staff attention to detail sometimes fell short...inroom coffee pods were for a different brand of machine and did not work, cleaning staff disposed of something of ours that was not garbage, there was a weird spray of some substance on the interior of the bathroom door during our whole stay. Vegetarian options at the restaurant were slim - the day we went, the veg option was an onion. It tasted very good but having an onion for dinner is disappointing. There was no way to order breakfast items a la carte, so we went elsewhere. The bar and bar food were good though.

Sofitel is now overrated! The view was superb, but the hotel is so old, e.g. the shower was leaking all night making drop sound making impossible to sleep. It was smelling the wet dog in the room and the room looked like we were in the 80s...not impressed. The only memorable was the stunning view but that has nothing to do with the hotel!

from the hotel room. Very convenient, walking distance from the beach.
The restaurant and the Bar has great view.
We stayed in other Sofitel location and it was excellent , base on that we booked this location and it was good ( not great).

We arrived to this hotel late (approx 1145pm), confirmed for a room with 2 twin beds but when I arrived, I was told by Hakim (sp?) only a king room was available (for two adults). The consolation offer was a king room, and they'd provide a rollaway in a 'premium' room for 1 night, until a 2 twin was cleaned the following day. We checked into the King room that was described as a premium upgrade to find it overlooked a cement parking lot, and was directly facing a nightclub which was blasting music (remember, it's almost midnight by this time). We slough our bags back downstairs to the lobby to request another room, and are given a standard king room (bye bye, upgrade). Upon inspection, the room had not been cleaned as there were wet face cloths on the bathroom counter, used hand soap, and used coffee amenities. We again venture back to the lobby now to request a THIRD hotel room. Hakim seemed very perturbed at my request for the clean and quiet hotel room I paid for and expected from Sofitel Marseille. His question to me was \"what would you like me to do?\" you can imagine my frustration being on the opposite end of his seemingly nonchalant demeanor. I was given keys to a third room, and you guessed it, the room was unusable. Hair in the shower, used water carafe glasses, and the mini fridge was leaking water into the hallway. Long story longer, I was fully refunded for this nightmare, after threatening to dispute the charge with my creditor. DO NOT STAY HERE.

We had an amazing view of the port from our room. It was a decent walk to the dining and shopping area. Everyone at the hotel was extremely nice and helpful. Only one little complaint was the water during our shower was a bit inconsistent-extremely hot back to normal. Overall ,we had a great stay.

The reason I didn't rate it high in cleanliness, The pool and the spa definitely need work. There were tiles missing in the spa. I don't think all of the Jets were working. It definitely doesn't look like the spot on the web page. And the outdoor pool had slime all around the water line. I didn't go in because it didn't look like they clean it on a regular basis. In my room the skirt to the bed had spots on it, but the actual bed and sheets were perfectly clean. The bathroom seemed very clean and the towels were amazing!!

I was unaware of a deposit required for each night even though I had paid for my room in full. So that was a bit of a surprise and I'm still waiting for the refund on that.

The breakfasts were delicious. And the portions for room service are huge!! The food was really good. I had a view of the port with my own terrace. The terrace had two lounge chairs and room for a breakfast table and chairs. That was a nice plus! Overall, it was a really fantastic experience. There was a gentleman that helped me with dinner reservations. Unfortunately, I don't remember his name but he was very helpful and kind and his reservation recommendation was spot on. Thank you

Not really a 5 star hotel. The main restaurant was fully booked the first night we were there and closed the next two nights. The bar menu was good, but not available on one night. One of our rooms experienced a flood in the shower where the drain was clogged with an incredible amount of hair. Water actually leaked into the next room. No bellman, and lack of expected 5 star service. Other than that, the rooms were comfortable and the location was good.

Given room key that did not work. The entire first floor of rooms smell like raw sewage and then they try to perfume the corridors to get rid of the smell. Had to hold breath from elevators until got inside room and opened windows and then met with the blast of diesel from the trucks lined up in parking lot below.

Needing an urgent renovation

The hotel needs an urgent refresh. While the beds and bedding are incredible (as are the views), there were too many issues in the hotel. The shower is impossible to maneouver, water floods the whole bathroom when showering, public spaces such as the spa and the fitness room are truly a disgrace for the Sofitel brand.

The room met expectations without going far beyond. The room was clean, comfy bed, appropriate soaps/cosmetics and aesthetically pleasing. Wish there was some view from the balcony and usb chargers for the price we paid. The view for breakfast was amazing but the price is very expensive for what it provided. If i could do it again I would skip the high breakfast cost and just get a tea or coffee to soak in the view. Overall satisfied with my stay but not blown away and would explore other options for the price.

If you like to sleep before midnight - then avoid this hotel at all costs. Next door is a nightclub on the marina that plays loud music every night; and only closes at just after midnight. Not an issue if you only sleep after midnight - but trying to get sleep before then is impossible.
Breakfast is weird. The staff sit you down, and then you don’t hear from them again. They don’t deliver pastries to your table, don’t ask if you want a coffee etc. Seems there’s only 1-2 people working at breakfast. Either severely understaffed or just rude and ignorant.
I’ve stayed in 5 star hotels all over the world, and the number one thing I look for is a relaxing and comfortable stay. Due to the nightclub issue alone, and the extremely loud music, I feel this hotel is not deserving of a 5 star.

The hotel itself is great- but at 7am construction workers right outside my room started to jackhammer and stone sawing. Way too loud.
No one had indicated this was going to be happening. Totally unacceptable!! Especially at those rates!

We thoroughly enjoyed every bit of our stay here. The staff was wonderful and the views were unprecedented. The evenings we spent on the terrace attached to our room, which were often accompanied by whatever local wines and cheeses we came across during the day, were truly memorable. If we find ourselves back in Marseille, we will find ourselves here.

This hotel is all about the view. You must book a harbour-view room to take advantage of it. The view of the old port and the city is spectacular. The restaurant view is also wonderful. The hotel is very nice and quite luxurious, but everything pales in comparison to that beautiful vista.

Hotels, for me, fall into one of three categories; those that I would return too in a heartbeat (Scandic Ishavshotel, Tromso) or, a functional hotel, that’s “fine” for somewhere to stopover (Marriott, Heathrow) or, those that you couldn’t pay me to return too (Hotel Keflavik, Reykjavík)
The Hotel Sofitel Marseille Vieux Port however, falls between the latter two categories. Having stayed for a week in late May; at first glance the hotel looks to be a luxury location, much as the hotel portrays itself. The terraced rooms, overlooking the harbour are spectacular, spacious rooms – so, all good so far
However, things go down-hill come the evening. On evening one a slightly off-beat jazz band could be heard playing further down the harbour. The music was different, not to loud and finished before ten – so not end of world stuff.
Evening two however, and we were introduced to the Rowing Club; a restaurant, come club, directly in front of the hotels terraced rooms. And this evening, the pub singer was preforming. The pub singer proceeded to spend the next six hours slowly murdering all of the pop and rock classics you’ve ever loved. In his race to beat the drummer to the end of each song, the pub singer strained at octaves he had no hope of reaching. Potentially recognising a distinct lack of talent, the pub singer compensated with volume, every decibel he could muster. The music ended shortly before midnight; I’m guessing due to his, having been arrested for crimes against music.

I loved everything about our stay at the Sofitel Marseille Vieux Port, from the warm courteous greetings from all staff, to the quality of the room, and the little extras in the room such as the preparation of the room in the evening with herbal tea by the bed, classical music playing on the radio and soft lighting. Our view was probably one of the best in Marseille overlooking the Vieux Port. I can't recommend it highly enough.

The location of the hotel, condition, food, and comfort was very great. I checked in a day early but come to find out, the original second day of reservation was canceled. When checking in a day prior, I informed the desk receptionist that I still the other two days of my stay but I will pay for this day so I could check in early. I was taken off level 3 and placed on level 6, it was an inconvenience since it was my last night at the hotel. Had a pre authorization charge on my charge for $700 when checking in and when checking out they cancel that charge and I had to swipe again so I had money frozen on two different cards.
