Our stay was lovely. The rooms were clean and the staff was really nice and helpful! We only stayed one night and the front desk staff was more than happy to keep our luggage while we explored Marseille. I would stay at the Marseille Novotel again.

The location is excellent. The outdoor section has a superb view. It is close to nice walking places. The rooms are clean and quiet.
The only problem was slow Internet. I was not part of the Accor network, which wld have permitted me to use free fast-speed internet. I had to use regular free guest access, and it was spotty and slow.

The public area around the children’s toys and reception were nice but the rooms and the pool didn’t really feel very clean. One day the pool was really cloudy and we were put off going into it.

Extremely Disappointing Stay for a Global Chain

I am deeply disappointed with my recent stay at this hotel, especially given that it is part of a well-known global chain with properties in many countries and cities. The experience fell far below the standards I expected from such a reputable brand.

There was mould in the bathtub, which was both unpleasant and unhygienic. The hair dryer’s casing was broken, rendering it unsafe to use. The ventilation fan was covered in thick dust, suggesting a lack of proper cleaning and maintenance. To make matters worse, several wall fixtures were loose and appeared at risk of falling, which was a serious safety concern.

For a global brand, this level of neglect is unacceptable. I hope the management takes urgent steps to address these issues, as they do not reflect the standards one would expect from an international hotel chain. Until improvements are made, I cannot recommend this property.

Hotel had the best location.
BUT…. The Staff,EXCEPT Solange, who was very kind and helpfull, needs training to be more helpful to guests.
Also, the hotel needs an URGENT remodeling/refurnish of the bathrooms. DISGUSTING! Mold all Over it!
Can’t understand how come a hotel chain as Novotel allows the hotel operador function with áreas in such a poor condition.
The lamp bulb on the desk was “intermitent”. Fixed but not for long.

Dated hotel inside and out. The room furnishings were so low plastic garbage cans that are very small and so cheap they don’t open. The towels were old and worn. Asked for more water for the room the only suggestion was walk to a market. The restaurants were closed I even tried to buy a bottle. Felt like a budget one star hotel.

We were entirely dissatisfied with the Queen room we were given. It was on the ground floor, in a dingy area of the hotel with no view and no natural light. The room itself was dated and unappealing. We would not stay here again.

Great location between the Old Port and the coastal area along, with great views of the port and fort etc, and walking distance to everywhere. Great modern facilities with lovely outside bar terrace, pool, attractive foyer area etc. Staff were all so friendly, on the desk, at the bar, cleaning staff. Had standard room, was just fine although not great view - would go for the deluxe port view next time, and there will be a next time.

Room was spacious and kept very clean. Buffet breakfast was great. Lots to choose from. Location was excellent.Away from noise of busy tourist and business area, but within a 15 minute walk of them. Pool was very enjoyable - large with plenty of deck chairs. Great view of Marseille port from terrace. Staff very friendly and helpful. Excellent fitness facility -lots of exercise machines to work out on. Recommended for a pleasant and relaxing stay.

Very difficult to find this hotel at night, we were driving a vehicle and there was lots of construction. We arrived at 830 pm, parking was in a secure structure on the premise. Restaurant was not open but it was a 15 minute walk to the port with lots of restaurants. Room was average more like a 3 star. Walkable to everything in the city. Lots of basilicas and sightseeing.

Very expensive for what it is... property needs a good refurbishment when you walk in the corridor it looks old with damages a bit everywhere. Room looks really old and the bed is terrible and very noisy. This type of bedroom should have been 70£ max not 100£.

The hotel was about 10 min to walk to fishing market. About 25 min walk to ballistics Notre dame. Also there is a common place which gives a great view of the town. Also 10 min to beach.
Room is large. Separate toilet and showering area.
Staff very nice and helpful.

Parking underground but it is a little challenge if you are used to drive in the US.

Nothing like advertised. Over priced for a room with no window. Room window view is straight into the main bar not port, no privacy had to keep the curtains closed as ground floor window view into reception and bar. No child facilities. Staff at night where not well informative. £26 euro for a fatty steak that I couldn't cut through. 2 hotels in one got lost in carpark lift

Value for money type hotel

The hotel room and some facilities such as the lifts may require refurbishment. A suitable choice for those on business trip. Not very far away from the port and restaurants (definitely within walking distance). For ordinary tourists, there are many choices near the port but this mid-price chained hotel will not let you down (or give you surprise). You will get what you pay for.

The room was bland and only had a small window. Otherwise, a good place to stay on the edge of Vieux Port and with good access to bus that goes to beaches. Nice outdoor pool area, with good outlook. Appreciated a slightly later checkout and that room accommodated extra person.

Good hotel, location, parking and staff

Location good, easy access to attractions. Helpful staff, gave good recommendations for places to eat and booking attractions. Secure parking available under hotel a bonus for this area. We all slept well, my son 4 years old didn’t want to leave. Would certainly stay here again.

We have stayed at this hotel before and booked again because of the fantastic position, particularly the view from the restaurant of the old port. Hotel staff are very friendly. Unfortunately the air conditioning in our room was faulty and dripping on to the floor all night. The hotel staff were extremely polite about this but could not move us to another room so we listened to the dripping all night. Before we could put a bin under the drip the floor had become soaking wet - luckily my open suit case had just avoided the dripping by a couple of inches.

This is a nice hotel with a good view of the harbor. A reasonably priced 4 star hotel.
However, the city of Marseille is surprisingly run down and dirty with a lot of migrants wondering around the streets and that is the bad part of our visit to this city.

Quality hotel in easy walk of marina and beach

Travelling with my 16 year old daughter I emailed ahead to ensure the sofa bed would be made up & with some requests. Instant replies - all positive.
We had an early flight in but were able to check in early which was great. Room a good size with queen sized bed plus double sofabed. Light & airy with exceptionally good secondary double glazing. Despite our room looking towards the msin road we heard absolutely no noise!
Spacious well equipped bathroom with excellent overhead shower and separate toilet. All rooms spotlessly clean.
Only criticism of the room is the door adjoining to the next room. It was locked obviously but there was no sound proofing or insulation. The man next door was loud & despite the hotel being non smoking, he was smoking in the room as it seeped into our room vis this door. To their credit, when I told the front reception staff it was dealt with immediately & the air was clean from that point onwards.
We found ALL staff at Novotel to be exceptionally friendly and helpful. Even the cleaners smiled and said 'bonjour' every time we saw them. It was a pleasant change from other hotels.
We booked breakfast and were not disappointed. An huge buffet spread with everything to choose from all eaten by the windows with a super view of the marina.
Some lovely restaurants tucked away near the marina with 3 course meals for £20 so don't eat dinner in the hotel where prices are high and steaks not good.
Overall we liked Novotel Vieux Port and would stay again.

Fantastic location with an incredible view over the old port from the breakfast place/restaurant. We also were delighted with the size of the (superior room). Very comfortable bed too. This is next to the Sofitel - so the guests from there use the pool. Also the bar and restaurant are Sofitel type prices. Hotel was good though. Wifi was rubbish in rooms though.

Hotel was a 15 minute walk from the port, and a 5 minute walk from the beach. Beach was okay(very packed and very *ghetto* French hip hop on speakers and people smoking(not cigarettes) on the beach however we really enjoyed the stay. Port has a lot to offer and going on a little boat trip to Fruile(think that's how you spell it) was definitely recommended.

Sofitel next door looked very nice so would possibly return there.

Impersonal hotel close to sea front

I thought long and hard about choosing the right hotel for my trip but despite reading extensively about the Novotel chain of hotels, this one was a disappointment. The location of this hotel in Marseille is good; a pleasant 20 minute stroll along the seafront to the Vieux Port. Buses are frequent and the views of the sea and port are good from the hotel bar and restaurant.

The hotel itself has an impressive welcoming entrance and the reception staff were helpful. The room however, although comfortable, had stains on the carpet and my room had a view of the bins at the rear and delivery area. It was noisy. There was clattering and banging. The first morning I was woken at 6.30am. The banging continued but this time from the room above me (not fully soundproofed) with banging at 1am in the morning. Goodness knows what they were doing up there.

It was also very expensive - £16.50 for breakfast and €4.50 for a coke. Two of the lifts were out of order and the decoration in my room was tired. They couldn't move me to another room as the hotel was fully booked. I had to argue for a robe and slippers, although in the description of the hotel it says these items come with the room and was asked to pick them up myself from reception.

I wouldn't stay at another Novotel if they're all of this standard. A very disappointing experience.

Amazing view

This hotel is about a 10 min walk from the harbour and has some amazing views from the restaurant and pool / outside seating area. The staff were really lovely and helpful. I shared a room with my daughter who had the sofa bed and although it was a bit springy we put a couple of blankets on it and it was fine. The shower cubicle was a bit tired and had marks on the floor but I think they were due to age rather than cleanliness. We ate in the hotel once and really enjoyed our meal although it was probably a bit more expensive that in the town but that's what I would expect. Restaurant staff were attentive and helpful - we didn't have a burger but they looked very good. It is a good location and I would stay here again.

This is Very Bad Experience for me. Being the name Novatel, the hotel don't fall as per expected. The Service was Bad, rooms not at all Clean, No Wardrobe for keeping clothes. The Reception team exceptionally unfriendly.

great place to stay for a trip to Marseille

Great place to stay for our Marseille holiday. Only a 10 minute walk down to Vieux Port to soak up the atmosphere of the harbor, cafes, restaurant and bars. It has excellent facilities and enjoyed the pool and Spa treatments available. The hotel was quiet at night. The small fridge in rooms allowed us to keep our drinks and picnic food cool for our daily excursions. Staff were very helpful with any enquiries. Jordan was particularly helpful helping us to print off boarding passes.

A great hotel in an amazing location

A annual favourite of ours, a great hotel, great location overlooking the vieux port and the new Museum of the Mediterranean. Outdoor pool, great service, really helpful staff, when we had a problem in the restaurant the restaurant manger couldn't have been more helpful and offered dinner on the house. Parking is handy, under the hotel, really easy to drive into the hotel from the main road into Marseille. Main attractions easily walkable from the hotel. A great place!

The stay in the hotel was very good, bed and breakfast was excellent, it was a very good base for us to do our day trips or spend a day around the pool or down the beach, my only 1 concern was the pool area, as it was a very busy pool 600 plus guests for a small pool the condition of the pool wasn't at its best with a lot of small children playing including my own, quite a few of the tiles in and around the pool were broken or missing leaving sharp edges when getting in and out, quite a lot of the kids cut or scrapped themselves on these, this wouldn't take much maintenance to replace the missing or broken tiles.... rest of the hotel and area was excellent and would come back again.

We stayed on this hotel for 5 days . The guy who sat at the reception desk on the day we arrived was not so pleasing that he didn't even showed us the map of the hotel and the direction of the entire city. Many hotels in the past usually includes this part after we checked in.
Dinner selections were too limited but we couldn't find any wrong with their wide selection of breakfast Buffett . Over all we were satisfied of our stay .

We had an excellent stay at this hotel and would strongly recommend it for anyone looking for outstanding value. there is easy access via bus to the central harbour area with museums, restaurants, city centre, boat excursions, metro, and trams. you can either stay poolside in the hotel or venture to the small sandt beach-within ten minutes walk, plenty to do-day or night.

The location was excellent for us. Away from the noise & activity of the water front, but 15 minute walk to the port area. The hotel had all the amenities for us. The balcony bar near the pool was beautiful. Often my wife & I were able to sit and enjoy a night cap in a quiet area with a great view of the port.
The queen size bed was comfortable and the shower area was large. Having a separate area for the toilet was convenient.
The staff were very helpful despite the language barrier. Most of the staff had some English but struggled but we were able to get the information we needed.
We would definitely recommend this hotel to our friends.

Breakfast room with a view

The Novotel is located on the left bank of Marseille vieux port by Fort St Nicolas and has great views over the port towards the Fort St Jean. The dining room, outside bar area and pool all take advantage of this. The staff are very friendly, the hotel is clean and the room although dated was clean, quiet with comfortable bed and powerful shower.
The buffet breakfast did not vary but there was a reasonable choice of continental or cooked including waffles, pancakes and fresh fruit.
We did eat dinner in the restaurant and the food was tolerable.
Marseille, like so many cities, is ruined by the dominance of the private motor vehicle but public transport is reasonable with the 24 or 72 hour pass for bus/tram and underground.

The hotel itself is nice. Shared facilities with the Sofitel is a bit weird to work out.

Overpriced restaurant food - if you walk 2 minutes you get a nice French meal for half the price.

As for the staff - terrible. I emailed the manager about how to get to the hotel - he responded get a taxi. Later on I found out there is a bus stop right outside, secondly I ordered a taxi a day before to be told 10 minutes prior to leaving that it wasn't ordered by staff correctly.

Ended up missing my flight.

2/5 simply because of incapable staff.

Fabulous View

The hotel is in a fantastic location with wonderful views of the harbour. We travelled by Eurostar and walked from the station to the hotel (approx 30 mins). We wandered out to restaurants every evening and walked around the coast during the day. There is a also a park area, also with great views, adjacent to the hotel. The public areas within the hotel are perfect: great pool, nice bar and beautiful restaurant. The staff were unobtrusive but also helpful and friendly when you needed something. It was a perfect place to stay and we will return. There are many things to do in Marseille: museums, cathedral and boat trips.

not as good as expected

Hotel rooms are OK but lacking any view unless you pay extra for port view.
Breakfast buffet food is good and you have nice panoramic view from breakfast area. Don't sleep in to long or you might miss breakfast service specially during the week. Only 1 desk clerk so expect some waiting time and service is not very friendly. There is bus service very close to hotel, but only 15 minutes walk to the vieux port center. Parking stalls in underground garage are small.

Ok but for restaurant

Nice place except for restaurant. One waitress for outside pool and restaurant at 7-8 pm.Lock on room door was broken..

Excellent location

Situated about 10-15 mins walk from the Old Port this is a modern hotel that is away from the noise of the centre of Marseille but within easy reach. The views overlooking the port from the hotel are amazing. Several excellent restaurants within walking distance in the Catalan beach area. The room was comfortable and well equipped.

Nice Hotel with views from restaurant

We had a short one night stay. Location was a bit quiet, away from the city centre and shops. Has nice view of the marina. Room was large, but feels a bit old. No views from our room as on ground floor facing a small internal garden. Complementary bottle water provide in the fridge. Dinner at the restaurant was nice with decent food and service. Breakfast was good, with reasonable varieties. Taxi from airport to the hotel was a little expensive as quite far and can have heavy traffic.

Good location

This is a nice hotel in a good location, the only problem is that it is at the far end of the harbour from the town. Though it is a nice walk. The hotel is near a very nice park overlooking the old harbour it is an excellent place to spend a quite hour.

Hotel in Marseille close to the most attractions

The hotel is at a reasonable distance to the old port and the corniche.
The rooms are comfortable, clean and quiet.
Restaurant offers are superb.
I can't say anything about the pool since December is not the time to try it..

Good Stay reasonable price

I've stayed in many hotels over the years in several countries, this was one of my better experiences. Minus the disappearing bar staff, all the staff members were prompt with their service. The view from the pool was great with an excellent lighted backdrop for night time photos. The WIFI was \"so-so\" but it did work. The room was extemely hot at night despite the fact that the themostat was turned down to the lowest setting.
