My wife and I were celebrating her birthday and took a chance on a hotel we'd never heard of: the MANDARIN ORIENTAL!

Best decision of my life! :)

The staff treated her and I like family, being kind, gracious, catering to every need we had, always smiling, and basically treating us like we were the King and Queen. I've never had better service from every single staff member: concierge, check-in, doormen, housekeeping, in-room dining, restaurant...in every facility we used, the Mandarin Oriental Staff exceeded our wildest expectation of being pampered, spoiled with generosity, and extremely professional as well.

I will always stay here, only stay here, when in London... and already in 24-hours after checking out, have told a dozen people about this phenomenal 5-day stay we had at this beautiful hotel. Thank you everyone on staff, my wife and I will NEVER forget the great feelings of luxury you gave to us for her birthday celebration. We'll be seeing you again as SOON AS WE CAN! -Matthew R.

This property was AMAZING! 5 star experience the whole way. Turn down service, fresh flowers everywhere, customized gifts, and a wonderful spa. High tea at the rose bury is a must!! The staff is so nice and helpful. Definitely recommend!! Will stay here again.

Didn’t sleep as the beds are terrible.

We stopped at this hotel fro the one night after arriving back from a flight from Dubai. The hotel is well fitted but the major issue is the bed - it was like sleeping on a slab of concrete. When I mentioned to reception taht we hadnt slept they said they would update our profile and put a topper on the bed. I wouldn’t risk staying at this hotel again untill they sort the beds out.
Stay her if you want a nice hotel but aren’t bothered about having a good nights sleep.

Dislikes: Plenty. I’ll just share 1 thing that happened. The icing on the cake as it were…

I was in the gym around 9:30pm one night and had to use the restroom. The door to the pool area was locked. I looked around and there was nobody to be found.

Inside the room behind the door labeled “movement” there is a single bathroom. So I decided to use it really fast so I could get going again. As I was about to use it (locked inside already) someone started (aggressively) pounding on the door. I thought it might be an emergency or something by the sound of it so I quickly opened the door to see what was going on. The person that worked down there, a thin dark haired woman, started yelling at me and was visibly angry. “You cannot use this it closes at 9:30.” Or something along those lines with plenty of complaining and anger and frustration.

I was shocked. As a guest at a 5 star hotel (or any other hotel I’ve ever stayed at in my entire life) I’ve never experienced being yelled at by an employee. The fact that it was for something benign made it worse.

There were plenty of other jaw-dropping things that happened as well. I heard employees talking about other customers calling them a “nuisance.” No you can’t do this, sorry but that’s not available (when it was later verified available) and so on.

I feel like the company culture of this location is really bad. Management just allows it, so employees keep doing it. Service isn’t priority.

I had to wait for an hour to get my luggage on the day of my arrival
The electricity shut down that same evening
There was no towel in front of the bed at night until the last night
No coton & coton buds in the bathroom
And spa was fully booked 4 days in a advance

Unlimited luxury. Unparalleled service. This has to be the best hotel ever. The staff is wonderful. The location is excellent. Housekeeping is spot on. The restaurants and bars are deliciously over-the-top. For a real indulgence, sit up late and order room service and delight your taste buds. This property is in a higher price point but well worth every dollar (pound) you might spend. The Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park turned an ordinary trip into one I will never forget.

Exceptional Service ! Must Stay at this hotel!

Upon arrival, a hot towel and hot floral tea was provided while checking in. The staff ensures all needs are met. Room service is exceptional. Food came within 30 minutes. In room dining, Caterina , always treated us with such care and respect and always knew what was required. Caterina noticed I kept the orchids in my room that came along on the table for room service, so the next day I recieced a vase of at least thirty Orchids in a vase with a hand written note from housekeeping that they noticed I liked orchids . I couldn’t believe it!!!All the staff at The hotel, do their jobs as if they own the hotel themselves. Must stay hotel. Matteo, Andrea and Caterina were exceptional. Thank you!

Friendly staff, excellent location but otherwise does not live up to the price. Even on the ninth floor, the noise level at night was terrible and room quite dated and basic. Only hotel we’ve been to around the world in a very long time that charges for WiFi.

We stayed for 2 nights in the Turret Suite. It was very cold and lighting wasn’t working properly . Eventually the hotel supplied 2 mobile radiators to warm it up . Room was lovely but for the price a little on the small side . No dressing area , small shower. Single sink . Disappointing . The redeeming factor was Mark at breakfast . A fantastic guy who could not do enough for all the guests. I would go back just to see him and his happy, helpful enthusiastic approach to life.

Not up to Mandarin's standards.

I love the Mandarin hotels but this was disappointing for the price. The hotel is currently under renovation and although this is a good thing, the price does not accurately reflect this inconvenience. Many major hotels shut down completely during renovations and if one chooses not to do that then the price should reflect such. The staff was very apologetic and accommodating but the only solution they offered for the inconvenience was to come back in June when the renovations are completed. So although I recommend this property it is with the understanding that you will not get the full Mandarin experience until the renovations are complete, and I would recommend asking for a lower room rate or some other accommodation.

Despite the hotel not having our reservation made through Expedia more than 3 months ago, the staff went out of their way to make up for the inconvenience caused during our check in. An upgrade to a luxurious suite with complimentary breakfasts & wi-fi made our stay a most memorable one. Thank you very much Mandarin Oriental @ Hyde Park!

Great hotel over looking Hyde Park in London

We stayed for a day for a break before the birth of our third child, despite living in central London. A very relaxing afternoon in the spa and swimming pool (which is restricted to guests and, on a Saturday afternoon we were the only people in there). We booked a park view room which had great views over Hyde Park and were upgraded to a suite, which was exceptional. The service throughout was friendly and first class. Overall a great stay. The only downside at present is that there is refurbishment going on and so the property is not as grand as it usually is.

Highly professional with a human touch

We stayed at the Manderine for my Husband's 50th. We had already stayed at the sister hotel in Vegas and thought that was one of best hotels we'd had stayed at so this was on obvious choice. The USP for this hotel was the staff. What ever you wanted/needed was never any trouble. Everyone was attentive, friendly, treated as individual guests! Attention to detail was great. Housekeeping was efficient and prompt.

Disappointing Short Stay

After a four day stay at the Dorchester a week earlier, this hotel is old and dated and doesn't compare to the other Mandarin Oriental properties worldwide. Unfortunately this was my wife's first stay at this chain and therefore we would be less likely to stay as compared to the Four Seasons/Ritz Carltons/Dorchester Collection.

Weekend at the Mandarin Oriental

Location A1, not only in Knightsbridge but the most desirable row in Knightsbridge facing the south of Hyde Park next to the famous one hyde park.

Pricey for the room sizes at four figures a night you might expect a bit more value, no breakfast or wifi included. The price is solely derived from location as it isn't no better than some other 5 star hotels I've stayed in London.

I requested before my arrival if SkySports was available as I wanted to watch a Boxing match at night, I was assured over email they have access to those channels. To my dissapointed the channel wasn't showing the correct programmes instead just Sky adverts. I contacted the team to resolve asap but never heard back to my email to this day, usually they reply very quickly.
Instead I was forced to go in the middle of the night at 1am to the casino across the road to watch it with no commentry.

Next time I am in London I will stay in the hotel across the road as it offers far better value for the price.

Overall a good hotel, yes pricey even for London standards but I didn't mind as long as the service was excellent, considering I'm not a fussy customer the one little thing I requested was not delivered which left a sour taste.

The Mandarin is a luxury hotel with prices to match. Most of the staff are excellent and the rooms are generally decent, albeit a bit tired. The location is excellent, very close to Knightsbridge shops, Hyde Park and the tube station.

Unfortunately, however, we had some poor experiences. When we arrived, having booked a non-smoking room, they put us in a room which had a vey strong and unpleasant smell of stale smoke. We asked to change to what we had booked and the alternative room was not ready until 6pm.

When we checked out, they said we could not have a late check out (to 4pm) unless we paid £200 (maybe we should have charged them for getting us into our room so late!). When we complained, the manager said \"we operate like airlines, and have different classes. You booked through Expedia so you're not entitled to business class benefits!\"

We only stayed there as an experiment because our usual choice, the Hyatt Churchill, was closed following a gas explosion. Next time we'll go back to the Churchill....

Have stayed this hotel many times. It's actually degrading. Not satisfied with service and food. Room wasn't cleaned by 3:00 pm and their excuse was we did not put the sign to ask clean room. Still love this hotel but obviously some action will be needed to satisfly customers as it's used to.The service was not worth the money we paid.

Excellent Hotel!

This is the first review I have ever written, but i'm doing it because The Mandarin Oriental certainly deserves it. The hotel exceeded my expectations and I could not have had a more comfortable stay! Julia was the guest relations manager who took care of me and my family the entire time we were on holiday and even e-mail me prior to my arrival to see if we needed anything. During our Europe trip overall, we stayed in three hotels total and The Mandarin Oriental was certainly my favorite. The rooms were spacious, there were towel heaters in the bathroom, the staff takes a keen interest in knowing who you are and what you like. I was very impressed and would certainly stay here again!
