Great attention to detail and very friendly staff, from doorman, to reception and concierge, to cleaning staff. First day I arrived a bit earlier from airport and was able to get early check in. Was also jet lagged and had a couple Nespresso cups in room. The next day staff filled coffee bar with pods I drank plus extras of the ones I liked. Small things like that throughout my stay, that most hotels ignore and show attention to detail.

Waited an hour to check in despite arriving at 3pm. Staff told us they would upgrade us as they didn’t have the room we booked. They tried to put us in an apartment which wasn’t the standard room we booked. When we did get our room it was only ok. Definitely not 5 star. This hotel is over priced. I would not recommend.

Nice clean, large room. Recently modernised although still with the shower in the bath tub. Room was quiet enough during the day and for most of the night. Unfortunately it was located over the delivery entrance for the hotel so was noisy from 6am. Very welcoming and friendly staff.

This is a great hotel close to a few restaurants and Buckingham Palace. We especially enjoyed Sofra around the corner. There is a mini mart on a side street and an M&S close by. Very nice staff. Great walkable park right across the street.

Don't go if your teen wets the bed

We stayed at this hotel recently with our 16-year-old son, who has a medical condition that causes nighttime bedwetting. We made sure to bring his DryNites and took every step to be discreet and responsible. Unfortunately, the hotel staff showed no compassion or understanding.

Despite informing them ahead of time about our situation, they made no effort to offer support—no waterproof mattress protectors, no extra linens, nothing. When we politely asked for a few extra sheets and towels, we were met with rude behavior and told we’d be charged extra fees. It felt like they were more focused on making money than actually helping their guests.

What’s worse, they made us feel embarrassed, as if our son’s condition was an inconvenience to them. This experience was not only disappointing but also deeply upsetting for our family.

If you or your child have any sort of medical needs or require kindness and understanding from hotel staff—this is NOT the place to stay.

Main issue for me was noise. Rooms are not sound proof and street noise woke my infant well before his normal time everyday which resulted in tired baby and parents. Reservations are not helpful and one of them is rather inhospitable, she made sure to say her name extremely quickly to ensure it was impossible to discern.

Not worth it

Room was very small and bathroom was awkwardly designed. Shower glass couldn’t cover so water gets all over. Bathroom was so small and hard to use. Also, they put us on 2nd floor by the side street. Constantly there were noisy from the street when they have shipments arriving to the hotel. I suggest to request on higher floor. It wasn’t worth paying that much as 5 star hotel. We stayed CQ afterwards, it was bigger with free water and gourmet coffee all you can. Which was great!

We stayed in the townhouse section. The access to the townhouse rooms within the hotel are below average, and I suggest guests access from the street instead. The ceiling height was great, beds comfortable. The bathroom’s in the deluxe rooms need updating, as the furniture has warped wood and shower trays semi yellow from age. The WiFi was very poor, and the hotel did try to improve but failed. The spa is out of bounds to children even after having been told they could attend before making the booking, so this was disappointing. The lounge or 10th floor is a bonus, with wonderful views.

The property is in a great location! The heart of Mayfair and surrounding landmarks. The staff were very friendly, the only problem I had was the comfort of the room. It was December and the room was very stuffy and warm. The windows were locked shut and no fresh air could circulate. It was difficult to get good sleep due to the warmth of the room even when it was turned to full cool and high fan. It felt like a central temp for entire building?

We stayed here for 5 nights and loved it. The hotel is in an incredible location, a short walk to Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park and shopping in Mayfair. The rooms appear to be recently renovated and are just lovely - the bathrooms are a bit dated, it would be good to see them modernised. All of the staff are fantastic, this was some of the best service we have ever experienced in all of our travelling. Super accommodating, will even help you make reservations and purchase tickets to events. We were on our honeymoon and they placed a delightful gift of balloons and chocolates in our room, along with a handwritten card from the team. The attention to detail is exceptional.
The Breakfast is excellent, and we loved that we could order it to the room for no extra charge. We also ordered from the restaurant for lunch, and that food was excellent as well. A minor negative is that the coffee is terrible, the pod machine in the room is better - but there is a great Italian style coffee place right next door.
Overall, we will definitely stay here again and highly recommend the Athenaeum.

Water leak and bad management

I stayed here in March and was really excited to stay here again. Checking in was nice and the room was very comfortable. The real issue is that the ceiling leaked water overnight and saturated the carpet and some of our bags. My husband and I spent the morning drying our clothes with the hair dryer, and when we informed management when we checked out. They told us the leak was unfortunate, but didn't really seem to care, and then asked if we wanted to include an additional £15 to with our bill as a tip. So if you're staying in room 201, the ceiling might be leaking. I've stayed in hostels more accommodating than this. Definitely won't be staying here again.

Really lovely stay. Spa was great, quiet, rooms good. I would say I booked a deluxe room and it seemed to look the same as the cheaper alternative? The only difference says it has a king bed and different pillows and a few sq meters more in the room? Stay helpful. Room service never came and they didn’t seem to care or really explain why or apologies, more of a brush off?

Thank you for making our last stop on our 20-day vacation so great! The bed and pillows were by far the most comfortable of anywhere we stayed. The staff was great and so thoughtful on my husband’s birthday. We loved the location, the drinks and the food. So pretty by the park and away from the busy areas but still walkable to everything.

The Athenaeum is a very stylish hotel with good location by Green Park. Easy walking to lots of sights including Buckingham Palace and shops. The decor is modern and fresh. The hotel is big enough to offer all you need for a city break but not too big and busy. Nice staff who were very welcoming and polite. We had drinks in the downstairs bar. Good selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. We only had breakfast at the hotel, didn't have time to dine. Restaurant looked nice hope to try at next stay.

Staff was very friendly. Alam in particular was excellent. Every morning he greeting myself and my wife with the same smile and spent time with us, chatting with us and getting to know us. He was also extremely attentive to our needs.
As I booked for a special occasion, the Hotel also upgraded us to a PArk View room which was very nice of them and all the additional extras that I had requested were all ready and waiting for us on our arrival as planned.
Excellent 5 star service.

The staff at this property are second to none. Extremely friendly and helpful. My only disappointment was that the hotel itself beyond the lobby was a little tired and in need of updating. Cleanliness wasn’t the best, hairdryer covered in dust and sticky residue. Toilet seat broken and marks on bathroom wall. Not a luxury stay, but a pleasant one.

A beautiful building and lovely rooms.

Unfortunately the service is patchy.

We booked an apartment with a cot for our stay. Despite booking this, ringing to confirm the day before arrival and asking at check in there was no cot. It took three calls and over an hour for us to get the cot- really frustrating after a long overnight flight with our 15 month old.

Despite having a child on the booking and a cot in the room we were given only two towels each day. Every day except one we were left to ask for an extra towel.

To cap this off, we were told at check in that breakfast was included, only to be told at check out that we were given the wrong information.

We had high tea with elderly relatives in the restaurant too. Service was hit and miss with various staff offering us the same things only to have no one around when we were trying to pay.

Such a shame as at other times, staff offered our son toys to play with and food to feed the ducks and swans with at nearby parks.

Given the expense of the hotel I really do expect more consistency and for them to actually do what they say.
