Located just off Laugavegur, Reykjavik's main shopping street, this hotel offers an outstanding location for exploring Iceland's capital. Situated in Mjolnisholt, it's a short 5-minute walk from the city center, amidst shops, restaurants, bars, and cafés.

Hlemmur bus station, Kjarvalsstadir Museum, and Hallgrímskirkja church are also within easy walking distance. Built in 2011, the hotel takes its name from the distinctive rock protruding from the first-floor wall, home to the Rock Bar.

Beautiful hotel room, heat and hot water was ALWAYS hot which is a savior when it’s cold out. Front desk staff were so friendly and able to help book every day trip and answer any general questions. Hotel’s location is a 3 minute walk to the downtown making it ideal for pick up, close to food and shopping… yet far enough away from the night time noise. Breakfast at the hotel came in quite handy opening far before any restaurants or coffee shops in town, it was simple and had a lot of variety. Also, Close to the grocery store two blocks away (bonus) for snacks and drinks. They have a locked baggage closet/room for your belongings if you arrive earlier than check in, or for your departure day.
I have not one complaint! Hotel Klettur exceeded all expectations and I highly recommend staying there

Overall, the hotel was fine. The location was good. There was a nice, big supermarket nearby. The entire staff was helpful. Breakfast was better than expected. Loved having a mini fridge in the room. Some of the issues we had included the TV not working until our last day (and then there were only 3 channels). We had to request room cleaning service from the front desk, even though we had a 6 night stay.

I stayed for 3 nights but on each occasion it was only for a few hours between tours. The staff on reception were friendly and efficient. They kindly took delivery of my suitcase which arrived while I was away and had it ready on reception when I arrived to check-in.

All 3 rooms I had were clean and comfortable.

Breakfast had a good selection of options.

The left luggage room was great as it meant I could leave some of my luggage at the hotel when I was away on a tour.

I would definitely stay here again.

I would not recommend staying at this hotel. It was very loud both outside and inside the hotel. It is very dated and the rooms are in fairly poor condition - doesn’t look much like the photos. It was clean enough and staff were very nice. Location is decent. We stayed in other hotels in the area that were much better and weren’t as expensive.

Good place to stay

This hotel is on the Flybus pickup and drop-off list, which is convenient for passengers with large luggage. The hotel is close to the seashore, just a several-minute walk from the Sun Voyager. The staff are friendly. The young guy who works at the bar is very welcoming.

I have to say, I love the receptionist, Shasha. Due to the weather, our flight was canceled, and we had to extend our stay. Shasha was incredibly helpful, patient, and attentive.

Hotel Klettur

The hotel was fine but it really was a no-frills place. The room was small with no view, the television wouldn't work, the people staying on my floor were very loud, and the house keeping staff were even more loud. For what I paid for the room it was fine, but it would have been nice for a little more than what I got.

Modern and convenient. Stayed at beginning and end of trip. Beginning was great, end would have also been but our room was next to the lobby and could here the front door banging all night. Also, the buses loaded up right outside the window. Avoid those front rooms of you can!

The breakfast was very good, some of the facility was modern, and other parts were tired and in need of updating, especially in the bedroom.
The bed and pillows in general were comfortable, and the water pressure is amazing..shower curtain very cheap and not great...was so light it was sticking to me blowing in to the shower.
Over all proximity to the center was walkable, and the center of town was amazing.
The hotel was okay, the price was a bit high for the overall facility.

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Klettur. Our room was large, quiet, and comfortable. We had a view of the water. I enjoyed the towel warmer in the bathroom. We rented a car and used the free parking garage. The breakfast buffet was very nice. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Another great stay

This is our second time staying at Hotel Klettur, and once again, we loved it. Its proximity to great restaurants and shopping is second to none, and the property is run very professionally. The breakfast is fantastic, and the room was extremely comfortable. Highly recommended.

Great: LOCATION - walkable to major attractions and fantastic dinner restaurant just a few blocks right around the corner! PARKING - free, private, closed garage parking. EARLY CHECK IN (for a fee, and if available) was much appreciated after not sleeping on an overnight flight.
Okay: BREAKFAST was adequate, but have had better in Iceland. CLEANLINESS could have been better, particularly in the bathroom. SOUND was okay within the hotel, but our room faced what did not appear to be a busy road, yet a surprising number of cars came through day and night, so it was not the most restful.
Overall, an okay stay. Good for one night for sure.

It was comfortable enough. The parking garage fills up quickly and then you have to find street parking, which is a pain. The building is completely boxed in so there are no views and it's a mostly residential area. We were there just one night and it was fine for that. Breakfast was decent.

Nice modern hotel

It had a reasonable price with free local parking. However the parking garage is small and always full, tgere is free parking outside but you have to be careful not to park in paid spots or tow away spots. They have a small pool table and areas for reading which is nice. Breakfast was good.

Large hotel that is trying to rise to elite status. Good breakfast. The room I was first assigned to was in the basement. It was depressing and dark The view out the window was staging set up in an alley. It would have been much better used a a storage room.. I went to the front desk and was reassigned to a better room. It was an impersonal hotel and for the price I could have done much better.

Iceland was amazing and so was Hotel Klettur!

We had a wonderful stay. The staff was amazing and friendly. The rooms were comfortable and the location was right near everything without the chaos of being right on the main street. We always went to breakfast which was a great starting point for the day and enjoyed several nights in the bar before bed.

The room was quiet and comfortable. The black out curtains were great. I was pleased with a hair dryer and shampoo and conditioner. The hot pot worked for my coffee. Staff was great. I enjoyed wine from the place to buy food/wine at the desk. The hotel is close to everything I needed and I walked.
The elevator was slow and very busy at certain times. I used the stairs.

The rooms are rather small but comfortable. We spent a single night here to explore Reykjavik and the main selling point for us was the walking distance from the center and the port. The breakfast was nothing special but with plenty of choice.

Plus and minus during unusable times

I started my stay at the very beginning of changes happening in Iceland by the time I left it was ghostly. Through it all the staff really tried to be helpful.

The room was a bit rundown with marks on the wall and no luggage stand. I found the room clean.

The breakfast was ok but they had to make some changes due to government rules. Nice to have oatmeal to start the chilly day. For my early departure to the airport they gave my a bag breakfast to take with me.

I found it helpful that a discount grocery is nearby.

Walking to all the major sites was a good walk. The airport shuttle and tour companies have this hotel on their pickup list.

This was an easy walk to town. I enjoyed the breakfasts and the room was comfortable.
The staff was very helpful in some last minute tour and transfer bookings.

Check-in was good, room was clean and we had all we needed.
Staff is I must say amazing. I was unlucky and dropped my Ray Ban sunglasse's through the crack floor in the elevator and they were nice enough to retrieve it for me the next day. Really was amazed that they were able to find them and miraculously they were still in good shape lol.

Another thing is that the breakfast for a 3 star hotel was rather delicious and had lots of variety. We had early excursions and breakfast normally starts at 7 but you were able to get it much earlier than that.

Would really recommend this hotel to anybody coming to Iceland 👍👍👍

Excellent stay. The staff was very frendly and helpful. The room is basic but it's more than ok for people that don't plan to stay in their room for a long time. Very clean in general. Cental location is beneficial as it is around 20-25 min walking to the city centre. Breakfast was nice but could do with a bit more variety. One minor thing I didn't like that there was only one type of eggs (boiled) and they were cold. In general I would stay there again for sure, considering the low price for the room too.

The room smelled, came with one chair, and had minimal amenities. The hotel has an underground garage with free parking. It’s located at the outskirts of downtown, so it’s easy to find. But the area is rather blah, and there’s not much for a tourist to walk to. The staff is very congenial and helpful.

Great Hotel and Great Value

The hotel was very modern despite outward appearances. The room was comfortable but stayed too warm during most of the day. The open window was not enough to keep the room cool. The breakfast was pretty good and typical for any accommodation in Iceland. Coffee should have been free all day, not just at breakfast. Staff was pretty friendly and helpful when needed.
