Easily accessible via car from KEF. There is plenty of on street parking. It’s located in an area where there are mostly homes and apartments. Walkable to Perlan Museum (you can see the Dome from Alba). Walkable to Reykjavik. My pedometer said I walked 5m but it seemed more. Good location if you are going to Thingvellir NP or along the South Coast. Breakfast was lovely and simple. Microwave available for use. Coffee/tea/water always available. Sink in room, which was nice. Bathrooms available on 1st/2nd floors. Overall great stay!

The shared bathroom aspect is really the only “issue”, which is fine, just something of which to be aware. The room was nice, basic…curtains not black out but close enough, and the staff were very available and attentive during breakfast. Parking was easy, and even though they are strict on the 3:00pm checkin, it was ok to leave our car and walk downtown while we waited, so it all worked out fine.

Very nice place to stay. This is a Guesthouse so you have shared bathroom and showers. The main bathroom has heated floors, so nice on a cold day. The rooms do have a sink in them.
The hosts are very nice and accommodating. They sell bag lunches and I saw something about a dinner.
Continental breakfast is included.

A pleasant couple to stay with the room was adequate didn’t have anything spectacular but had what I needed. I stayed here by myself while training at a nearby MMA gym on a week long training camp and I was able to get enough rest to be able to complete that comfortably.

Don't drink the water in your bedroom. There was a glass on the counter so I assumed it was safe drinking water. I ended up getting arsenic poisoning due to the amount of Sulphur in the water. Lots of blood to paint a picture.

It was a close walk to the center of the city, host was very good about giving instructions on how to get to town. We had a shared bathroom, there was also an extra shower so if someone was using the toilet you could still shower. The room had a sink so you could wash your face and brush your teeth. Blackout curtains were OK, still let a lot of light in which can be an issue during the summer.

Alba Guesthouse pneumonia

I was stuck in Iceland for a layover and booked a room here. It was 6 degrees and raining heavily, while I was dressed for California. I was soaked to the bone at the door, but the host didn't want to let me in, because it was not check-in time yet. So there I am wandering all over Reykjavik waiting for 3pm. I caught a horrible cold and a bad fever a few days later.

I can't say that the host is unfriendly. He just really doesn't give a crap about the well being of his guests.

We stayed 8 nights here. The owners were very nice. We met guests from Russia, U.S., Christmas Island, Scotland and England. The breakfast was filling and the location was great. Many tour companies pick up and drop off directly from this guesthouse. Situated very close to the Perlan museum, the famous church/tower and walking distance to the shops, sights and restaurants of Reykjavik. We even saw the Northern lights from the guesthouse parking lot while waiting for our tour bus! We would stay again. The only negative was the condition of shower curtain in the bathroom.

A little bit difficult to get to, but pretty close to the primary tourist sites (museums, churches, shopping district) once you figure it out. There's no sense to the layout of Reykjavik, and no direct routes to anything.

The Alba Guesthouse is a good value. Friendly hosts. Our room was clean and comfortable with dark curtains for a good \"night\" sleep at the height of summer. Be sure to enjoy their breakfast and coffee. If you plan to day-trip, you may want to arrange for Alba's bag lunches. They gave us two sandwiches, a fruit and a fruit drink for 1100 kroner- a good value when you consider the food prices at tour stops. The Alba Guesthouse is a short walk from many local sites, and is also a pickup site for the Reykjavik Excursion and Grey Line tour buses - perfect for my active family. If we visit Reykjavik again, we would stay at Alba Guesthouse.

The hostess was very nice and service overall was really good. No hard feelings there. The one person room can be only described as small. Bed, cabinet, sink, that's it. There was really no place for suitcase, so had to just open it where it could fit. A chair would also been nice, but there would not have been any room for one. The bed on the other hand was quite nice. Size of a double bed, so it took nearly the whole room. The reason why nothing else could fit there. Cleanliness was something that could be improved, there was quite amount of dirt on cable troughs that were on the walls. Also there were some electrical jobs that were quite interesting. No cover on the electrical junction box mounting that was in the room. Breakfast was sufficient to get anyone full.

I thoroughly recommend this guesthouse. Its in a great location with free parking (anything free in Reykjavik is amazing). The staff are friendly and obliging and the breakfast is great. A nice, quiet, comfortable place to stay, if I ever go back to Iceland, this is where I will stay.

Unwelcoming host, but OK guesthouse

We received a very frosty welcome from the proprietor (demanding immediate payment and complaints on the way we had parked our car - before we had even made it out of the doorway) which did not make us feel welcome as guests. There was no induction to the room, house or local area.
Our room was on the ground floor. It had 3 beds, of which we only used 2. Very thin walls - but the neighbours were considerate at night. The room had no sink and no access to running water - we had to request a bottle. There were shared bathrooms, which were fine, but sometimes felt awkward to use as the owner lay in the lounge next to it.
The breakfast was good, but it was presented and topped up in a way that the owners could manage/limit the amount of food taken by the guests. A very firm note above it stated that absolutely no food was to be taken away, which again, we felt was quite unfriendly. Having stayed in numerous hotels, hostels and guesthouses - this was first. The breakfast area was incredibly cramped for the number of guests.
The tea and milk was also removed once the owner went to bed.
As stated by some others the area seems to have a lot of drug usage, which even we were privy to in the day we were there.
I chose the guesthouse based on reviews, and on reflection there are numerous reviews that state precisely what I have noted above - I wish I had paid more attention and been willing to spend a little more on something a little more welcoming.

Good guesthouse in the city center

Nice little place in a good location near the city center. No kitchen or kettle in the room which is inconvenient. The breakfast served in the mornings is great and the staff are very attentive. I should add that I realized my bank card was wrongly overcharged while at a gas station and the owner allowed me to make a call to my bank. This was much appreciated and alleviated a lot of stress.

The Alba guesthouse is at least a 20 minute walk to the city centre. If you don't like walking I wouldn't recommend you stay here. When booking tours I never got dropped off back at the guesthouse as most vehicles couldn't access the road easily so again walked back after each tour. The single room was small but warm and cosy. Breakfast was served everyday basic food as well as tea and coffee. The staff weren't the most helpful with questions or suggestions. There are shared bathrooms which is fine there was a bathroom upstairs so that could be utilized if no other was free. Was a basic accomodation.

There are multiple bathrooms, 1 for each floor essentially. With a toilet only on the main floor. Breakfast is good, nothing hot however besides tea/coffee. You aren't allowed to take anything with you but they do sell packed lunches for your day trips which is great. It's a good location. 10 minute walk from BSI terminal where you will end up as it is the drop off for the airport buses from the airport to Reykjavik. It is also about a 15-20 minute walk to the main city center. It's a nice quiet neighborhood as well. However, it was a tad difficult to find on the first day as it was night time by the time we got there.

We had two twin rooms, very tiny but clean. One room had no mirror but both had sinks. The owner made each person fresh coffee in little pots. Nice selection and pretty breakfast room. My daughter slipped on treacherous curved stairway (shoes left in front hall). Owner should update couches in living room.

The guesthouse was fairly expensive for what you get. Breakfast was modest but satisfactory. Rooms were very small and the community bathroom wasn't enough for the number of people that had to use it. Clogged shower drain was a continual problem. Cheaper places probably have similar amenities.

The host was very nice. He prepared some food for my friends in the midnight as we needed to leave for the airport at 3am. The breakfast was very good as well (a wide choice of food). The location of the guesthouse was very nice. Only 10 minutes to the church and within 15 minutes to down town. Sincerely recommend this guesthouse.

if you are on an early flight you can leave ur bags there and go explore but let them know first

Nice guesthouse, convenient for the city center

A reasonably basic but very nice guesthouse which is well located. The staff were extremely helpful and welcoming. The room was very clean and comfortable although it would have been nice to have a small TV or Radio in there. Breakfast was nice and was served promptly every morning. Checking out very early was no problem and they even left out some food for me. For the price this was very good and I would happily recommend this place!

Completely Satisfied with Our Stay

Our host and hostess helped arrange the tours we took (including printing vouchers) and gave us great tips (if they hadn't advised us, we would have missed the Northern Lights!). They also will provide lunch for a reasonable price. The breakfast was GREAT! I just loved the atmosphere of the guesthouse - we felt comfortable and welcome and really enjoyed our three-day stay. The major tour buses will pick up from Alba Guesthouse and it's only a 15-minute walk to the city center area (a bit closer to the nearest restaurant). I would definitely stay there again if traveling to Iceland. (I also loved the heated tiles in the bathroom!)

Our booking was for the night of our arrival in Iceland. Because my husband and myself were on a late flight into Keflavik, I had written to the owner several days in advance to inquire as to whether I should pay in full prior to our arrival in order that another family member who was arriving earlier in the day could check us all in and get room keys. I was assured that this was unnecessary; however, due to a medical emergency upon arrival to Reykjavik, we were unable to actually get to the guesthouse until 3:00 am. When my husband and I arrived and realized we could not get into the 2nd room, we had to wake up the owner for assistance. He agreed to give me the key only once I produced my credit card and paid for the 2 rooms. I explained that we had had to deal with a medical emergency which delayed our already late arrival by many hours. We were dismayed when the owner said he had told our family member that he had not given him the key to the 2nd room when he checked in earlier in the day, especially since I had already advised the owner that the rest of our party would be arriving late at night. This was the first and only time we have ever had such an experience at a guesthouse. In addition, we had to request towels in the morning to have a shower. Overall, we were very disappointed with this booking and would not recommend it. Thankfully, this first impression of Iceland hospitality was made up in spades by the other guesthouses we stayed at around the country!

Our Alba House experience in Reykjavik

The stay was great! The food was great and so were our hosts-they helped us with concerns like how to get to the airport early in the morning and left us some breakfast food before we left at 430 in the morning! The only problem was the room we had downstairs was right beside the shared bathroom which in theory was great but in reality the shower noise was quite loud! We really like having a sink in the bedroom. It is walkable to downtown (about 15 to 20 minutes) and to the bus station ( about 10 to 15 minutes) All in all I would recommend Alba house but wouldn't take the room beside the shower downstairs!

I'll say up front that I'm not a fan of guest houses because of the shared bathrooms. But hotels in Reykjavik are so expensive, I decided to go this route. We were very pleased overall. The rooms are simple and clean -- all wood floors, which always seems cleaner to me than carpeting. The rooms have a pretty modern feel, with a sink in the room. The beds were comfortable, WIFI worked well. Breakfast was very good. The location is not right in the middle of everything, but it's walking distance. For the rate, I think this is a great option.

The guesthouse is located in a residential neighbourhood and I had to walk for 20 mins to get to restaurants. But I was offered early breakfast on both days of my stay even I was to check out at 4am. They also helped to arrange an extra cover on my window after I told them the curtain was almost transparent.

I Didn't spend a lot of time at the house but every time I was there the staff was attentive,kind,and didn't mind my silly American questions. Anytime I need anything from directions,translations, or even a cup of hot water they were there and genuinely happy to help. If you want a preview of Iclandic culture your first stop should be here. First impression of the guesthouse is that it is not on a very nice street, it is a 30mins walk to the main shops. The owners although pleasent were a little unapproachable. Our room was ok for 1 night although we stayed 2 nights as planned. The towels were very old and were not changed for our second night neither was the room serviced. There is only 1 toilet for 10 rooms and 2 showers that are dated.Breakfast was adequate.

Close to the center within 10 min walk of the catheral. Rooms were very clean however the downside was the shared bathroom / wc which often had a long queue which is not ideal if you have young kids. However we managed with 3 boys aged 8.9.11

The staff was nice and the room was decent, but it wasn't completely as described with a view of the city - the window faced another building. Also, the sheets I had smelled like wet dog on one side. My wife's sheets didn't, fortunately. All in all it got the job done of providing a place to sleep, I guess.

Friendly, quiet, wonderful breakfast

Stayed here two nights with our family of five. It was a bit of a challenge to find at first due to the layout of the roads, but this is the case throughout the city. We showed up early (9am!) to drop off our luggage and they were very accommodating. Remember check in isn't until 3pm, and since this is a family they need the time to get the rooms ready. Room was very clean and comfortable, shared bathrooms also very clean. The bathroom situation can be a bit tricky because although there are two bathrooms, only one has a toilet/shower/sink, and the other just sink/shower, so you have to plan ahead...we showered at the public pool the first night. Breakfast was quite wonderful with a large variety of food/drink served in a lovely sunroom. This guesthouse is perfect.

10-15 minute walk from city centre

Very pleasant guesthouse not far from city centre-would stay again. Breakfast was satisfactory and I suspect suited most guests, it did me and my son.

Not in the center of town but sill a nice place

I came in at 2am worried that no one would be awake at a guest house, however the gentle man was there with the open door before i was even up the stairs, he showed me to my room no questions asked.. best night of sleep in a long time.. I has two shared baths.. more than adequate for a 5 room guest house. also the beds are singles but very conformable :) The bread is fresh in the morning and you may find a little rugrat coming for a slice now and then...

No problems

Comfortable stay at the Alba Guesthouse. Only issue was a lack of promised Wi-Fi access, because a previous guest had apparently downloaded too much. This wasn't rectified during my multi-day stay. Other than that, clean, comfortable, and walking distance into the centre of Reykjavik.

The good:
The hosts were able to give some advice on things to do and helped us review our activities.
The bedding was clean and the in room basin was really helpful and also clean.
The coffee is fine.
There is a fridge for guests to use

The bad
The shared bathrooms were dirty and in poor shape, some of the shower tiles were cracked, there was a door panel missing. Quite a few parts of the building were rundown. The windows were so dirty you could barely see out and there was mould on the inside of the windows/window sills. The breakfast wasn't great and while I appreciate that there was something, it wasn't really enjoyable. I would not stay here again.
