Really disappointing. The listing explicitly said the room had a microwave and fridge in it. I got there to find not only did it NOT have that but it was a shared bathroom and kitchen as well.

As a solo female traveller I didn't feel safe. The risk of leaving my food in a shared kitchen for 9 rooms and the bathroom had a light on the outside of the room and a dodgy lock.

Rang the staff as instructed to be told that they couldn't help and none of the rooms had those services. I could submit a complaint and theyd forward it to the management. I'm home now a week later and inspite of chasing them ive heard nothing except a bland 'we're sorry for the inconvenience\" and an admission the listing are wrong.

If you book here be prepared for it to be a bit rough, it's a blend of a student house and a halfway home. Broken locks, badly fotted taps, chipped furniture, moldy showers, wobby door locks, broken appliances, and things held together with sellotape. And the noise from other and the bathroom was bad

I don't mind basic, but i was actively lied to. I would NEVER have booked somewhere with shared bathroom and kitchen if it had said that on the listing. If you are a solo female traveller i DO NOT RECOMMEND i was made to feel very uncomfortable in the shared spaces by other residents and there was a random guy who let himself in to use the bathroom one day.

If you're just looking for a flop house and don't mind it rough then the location is great and the cleaners are lovely.

The location was fantastic. Check in was easy. Staff seemed to come in regularly and take out the trash and tiddy up the bathrooms. The couch for the third person to sleep on was awful. There was a lot of mold in the shower and the drain didn’t work well. You had to continually shut the water off during your shower so it didn’t flood the bathroom. Staff was notified and they were able to have maintenance clean the drain the following day. Customer service was good. Overall, the location was worth the stay.

Some of the other guests were very loud and noisy and walls are thin. The keypad to get in was very loud and we heard everyone entering and exiting. It’s on a busy street but it is walkable to down town which was nice. The room was very stuffy with no way to get any airflow but the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was always wet so I don’t know if there was a leak or it was just from showers. It was a cheaper option for the area but I’m glad we were barely there and only stayed a couple nights. All in all…meh.

Wonderful property - we stayed here twice during our trip and both times we had a great stay. The staff were very accommodating with our questions and requests as well. Note that if you’re bringing large luggage parking can be a bit of a challenge but regardless it is definitely still worthwhile staying here!

Communal Bathrooms

Not what we were expecting.. Its essentially a non-descript, 3-story house in a standard neighborhood, paralleled by a busy main road, where parking if first-come-first-serve. The yard around the house was overgrown and the grounds were in need of maintenance. The only indication this was a guesthouse was the sign on the front door, which was not facing either street; we had to park , get out, walk around, and find it. Inside, there is a lockbox with a key for each room on each floor. Our family of 5 was split between rooms on the 3rd and 1st floors. The rooms consisted solely of a bed, some drawers, and poorly-fitted curtains with open windows.. Older furniture with signs of heavy use. There was also just a single common bathroom for all rooms on each floor and they weren't very clean looking or smelling. We did not find or see the common kitchen area in the photo, or any other room that looked as clean as that photo, though we briefly searched each floor.

The pictures in advertisement were much nicer than the actual guesthouse. We were located by the kitchen and it was very noisy, especially during nighttime hours. Severe mold problem in our room from ceiling to floor. Parking was ok. Weeds up to my shoulders in back yard, and no clean path from rear street to door so very easy to track dirt in.
We were there for 4 days and no way to refresh towels or washcloth.

What did we like? Room provided 2 twin beds and 1 sofa bed for 2 that were comfortable. It has a good location that allows you to walk to the main streets of Reykjavik.

What didn't we like? Entrance displays the need of maintenance. Bushes are overgrown and paint is past due. When we entered the Guesthouse, it was smelly. The room assigned to us was downstairs and if you do not turn on lights (which initially you have no idea where they are), you will not be able to see much.

Multiple showers like a dorm. I was not comfortable bathing alone since it seemed so spooky.

Overall, in our travel, we stayed in 5 different locations, and this was by far the least that we liked. Not returning and would not recommend.

Clean and convenient stay near Reykjavik. Easy to walk to the main downtown. Convenient facilities and amenities. Even though the bathrooms were shared there was never a wait and they were clean. The available kitchen and laundry room was convenient. The room could use some updates and fixes. The bedroom light fixture was hanging by the electrical wires, the flooring had water damage, the back door had a visible gap to outside and the apple TV was missing a HDMI cable so the TV did not work.

The door and window hinges were both broken. It was very difficult to open the door to our room. It was Impossible to close the window completely, making it a chilly and noisy night. The electricity in our room was off when we got to the room. When we called the reception desk they told us to check the fuse box. The electricity went off again when we were getting ready for bed. The parking was very difficult as non locals since parking is along the side of a very busy street. It was however a comfortable room and the common area was nice and well equipped.

Really great stay at Nordurey guesthouse. It’s very comfortable and clean and the rooms are modern and recently decorated. The location is very convenient and we found parking very easily. The kitchen is so handy and has everything you would need. I would stay here again if I came to Reykjavik

We loved our stay at the guesthouse, from the convenient location to the coffee maker in the kitchen. It had everything we needed at a good price. Customer service really helped us out by checking to see if we could drop our bags off a few hours earlier than the regular check-in time. The rooms are spacious with comfortable beds and seating area. When we rented a car at the last minute, we had no trouble finding free parking. We would definitely stay here again!

There was a cigarette burn on the pull out couch where our kids were supposed to sleep. The floor hasn't been swept or cleaned from the previous guests. Logistically the TV could not be turned on. The shared bathroom is very small, so it's hard to navigate if you have kids. The shower was very moldy on the bottom. We were lucky to find a parking spot in front but be aware of you have a car and not familiar with the area to know where you can park.

Pros:

Noisy road and traffic keeps you awake.
People struggle to enter the property if they don’t contact the owner in advance. For us it was smooth since we received the details after sending an email two days in advance.

We discussed our problems with the staff at around 8 pm when we checked in. Linens and sheets were not looking fresh , suffocating room , dysfunctional tv , dirty towels hanging , comoom washroom unclean and smelly. We asked for change of room , we were not given. Despite the fact that we could see spare keys. We asked about tv , told that it is getting renewed. Later on told in morning that it was functioning which was a lie. 1. The shower on the same floor as the kitchen does not drain.
2. the dryer does not dry your clothing, it is broken.
3. There are no extra drying racks to use for wet clothes.
4. The door handles are falling apart.
5. The TVs in rooms that have two cords cannot reach the minimal outlets available, especially when both cords must be plugged in to work, and therefore the TV is useless.

PROS:
1. Great location.
2. Nice and polite customer service members, who recognize this place is not great and just want to help but can’t actually do anything.

Modern rooms and kitchen. Not too far from the city centre and easy to walk to.
They allowed us to enter early to drop off our bags which was a massive bonus otherwise we would have been stuck with them most of the afternoon. There was no front desk and we had to phone to gain entrance codes but not sure how else we would have got in as they weren't sent in advance

The guesthouse is lousy, too close to Main Street. The condition is terrible and definitely needs a remodeling. Hardwood floor is dirty. The facial and bath towels are hard and could rub your skin off. We did not use at all. There is nothing provided except a hand soup in bathroom.

I was disappointed with the staff follow up per our request. Three out of the four people in our party are allergic to pillows and comforters with feathers. I put in a request to have this changed and was told that they would bring us alternative linens and pillows. They never showed up and I called again and emailed and was told that they made a mistake and would not be bringing us what we needed in order to sleep without allergens. They apologized but did not bring what they had told us they would earlier in the day. Another negative is that it is on a main road and our room happened to be on the road side. If you can try to request a room on the opposite side, The positive is that it was clean.

This was a decent accomodation for the night. There was a miscommunication between Nordurey and Expedia where we didn't get the entrance code email, but luckily the guesthouse answered their phone in the middle of the night when the virtual agent didn't understand what the problem was.
The rooms are recently redone and the shared kitchen area is nice. Easy to walk to BSI bus terminal.

The property is a disaster. When we entered the house, we were overwhelmed with a smell that almost gagged you. It smelled like the basement was a morgue with a freezer that went bad. I would have turned around and found a different place if it wasn’t late. When I raised the issue to management, they acted as if they didn’t know about the smell - impossible. Next day, someone sprayed some deodorizer. WORST PLACE IVE STAYED IN OVER 20 years of traveling.

We had a good stay. Our room was small but we spent very little time in it. Being out all day on tours - the Guesthouse is very close to all the bus stops and bus station to access these tours.

We lost our room key which was sorted straight away by the staff and we were very grateful to get this sorted so efficiently.

The kitchen is in need of some repairs - the stove is smashed in the corner and the dishwasher not working. All bathrooms and kitchen was always clean.
I think more drying cloths in the Kitchen would be good. Some guests had to put glasses back wet.
It was perfect for our budget and trip. I would stay again.

It was a very good place to stay during our trip, all the tours that we booked had bus stops near to the guesthouse. The cleaning was very good even with shated bathroom. Just about the shared kitchen, we left a box full of salt in the basket \"food to share\" because was a lot just for a couple, but in the next day the salt wasn't there anymore.
In general, I recommend this place to stay!

Something in Iceland that's not exorbitantly priced and offers decent value for money! This place is a find for this reason alone. Rooms were clean and well maintained. Outside of the building could use a bit of work, but nothing major. My only complaint is about the Wifi -- spotty and intermittent in reliability, which can be irritating when you're dependent on the internet to fine-tune your travel arrangements, check in for flights, etc.

This was a nice stay. The bed was comfortable and my room was upgraded without asking. It is better then staying in a hostel but very similar as you have to share everything except for your bedroom. My TV didn't work at all although it was a smart TV none of the apps worked. It got pretty chilly in the room but plenty of blankets to warm up. Altogether it was good for the price.

Decent, comfortable guesthouse

We booked this guesthouse for two nights before and after our Laugavegur Trail hike as it is decently-priced and conveniently located within walking distance of the BSI bus terminal. This guesthouse operates on a self check-in basis where the front door and room key collect codes are emailed to you 2 days before your stay. This was simple and fuss-free and we quite liked the process. We got a room on the second floor (same as the shared kitchen), and it was clean and spacious with comfortable beds. There is one shared bathroom for our floor, which is generally fine except that a queue will form if other guests on the same floor intend to shower at the same time or if guests using the kitchen also wish to use the bathroom. There is also a washing machine and a dryer in the basement, so that you can do your laundry at no extra charge. This was very helpful to us after our hike. We also liked that the shared kitchen includes a common coffee machine which guests can use for complimentary coffee. My only gripe is that the shower temperature on the second floor bathroom never goes beyond lukewarm, so it gets really cold taking a shower in the night or early in the morning when it’s colder outside.

Great location, free parking right out front, clean and comfy. More hooks or hangers for towels and jackets in room is recommended, mind you there were some but we had a group of 4 people. A great place to stay!

Not bad

Convenient location, easy to check in and out. Beds were a little bit too soft for my liking. It's a very compact building with closely spaced rooms, stairs and bathrooms, making it pretty noisy whenever someone is moving around.
