Rooms and bathrooms were very clean, staff were very nice and easy to check in and out. Would have liked a water fountain but that’s the only thing I could find that wasn’t positive about the place. I do recommend having a car if you are here as it’s 10 min away from center drive and far walk

The hostel was fine. But honestly if you don't have a car it is not convenient at all unless you wnat to walk about 30 - 45 minutes to get anywhere. It is not close to the BSI bus station and the bus is a pain as you have to buy add on tickets when you get the airport bus. I was charged around $45 for a cab from the airport. You can't check in till 3pm and there is nowhere around there to eat or in the hostel. They have a kitchen and suggested I make my own food that I bought form the supermarket. Which is not close and I didn't have a car! The vending machine was super expensive and only had some really bad sandwiches. And the coffee machine is inside the reception which i closed after 9pm so good luck getting a hot drink! The beds were really hard and two singles stuck together. (I was in the private room 8). There was no desk / chair or TV which made it really awkward to use a laptop. The shared bathroom was clean. Also if you want to get the hop on hop off bus tour the nearest stop is at Perlan which is about a thirty minute walk uphill through a park with winding roads and by a really busy motorway which is impossible to cross unless you use the subway.

I didn't like no night front desk, and guest not cleaning after themself, small shampoo for 35 dollars to use for a couple days, very over priced, dorm lockers extra small can even fit a carry on, front desk not very helpful if services not contracted with them and get a commission, got pretty warm at night.
I liked the location and very close to BSI.

Amazing hostel, so happy I chose it. The receptionists are amazing, friendly and informative. The rooms, bathrooms, lounge and outside areas are all super clean, welcoming and comfortable.. the activities are a lot and they pick you up from right in front of the hostel. And the downtown is just a 20 mins walk … totally recommend!

Good budget option about 20m walk from Halmgrimskirka. Easy logistics, everything makes sense, staff very accommodating. A few minor issues: west facing rooms get very hot on sunny days and no real option to cool (other than drawing shades). As others have noted, shower/WC combo means WC is often unavailable, especially around 6am when buses to out. It was surprisingly quiet the three days I was there, even though they were full all nights. Kitchen is serviceable for quick meals and keeping items cool (no freezer) -- they are aggressive about removing unlabeled items but labels are provided/easy. It does get busy and a bit loud in the half hour or so before big tours pull out. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised this worked so well.

Only stayed a night. Place was clean. Be careful the bathrooms may be slippery if someone used the shower beforehand. Staff were helpful. I found it to be pretty far from everything. I didnt see many restaurants or stores within walkable distance. Was a 15 min walk away from bsi bus station. Hostel is really warm inside.

As a hostel it was quite nice. I had a private room, but did have to share bathrooms with other guests. Although there are 15 bathrooms they were often all full due to multiple people showering at the same time of day. It would be useful to have at least one bathroom per floor without a shower so people who needed just the use of a bathroom or sink could use the facilities or brush their teeth without waiting 30-60 minutes for a free bathroom.

I took the bus and it took me right to the hostel and driver got my luggage out. The rooms are not at the \"road level\" so you have to take your luggage on the next floor and there is no elevator. The front desk staff can help with the luggage.
The 2 somewhat smaller fridges ( compared to the big fridge sizes in USA) in the kitchen were overflowing and not really clean from inside. There is no freezer. Bathrooms were clean. The 4 bed sharing room was decent size.
I walked to the church and city. It was very safe and had free parking, if you have a car.

The staff was so helpful and nice and for traveling from America it was nice that they knew English. Convenient with buses come to the building and have loads of atractions you can choose to do. Definitely recommend for any solo women, I had a mixed dorm and I left my things on my bed, super safe and chill.

I booked this place as it was easy for transport options due to my flight times both from Keflavík and Reykjavik domestic. The bus to Keflavík would stop outside, and it was a hour walk to the domestic airport. It’s also 20mins walk into town which is easily do able or to the BSI - other bus terminal.
The bunks don’t creak/ move as you climb onto them. The shower/ toilet facilities were lovely and warm after a long day out in the cold. The cooking facilities also great.
Would recommend as also an easy place as a lot of tour pick ups can be arranged from this location.

Not worth the exuberant price of $75 a night, but I guess that's just Iceland. Solo female traveler and felt safe in 16 person co-ed dorm. Private bathrooms were a big perk, and very clean. Room could have been ventilated better (a bit of a smell), but overall very clean. Location is a bit inconvenient if you're trying to explore town (~20 minute walk into downtown), but very convenient for airport bus transfers or tour transfers.

Front desk was not very helpful. We have visited Iceland a few times over the years. When asked for directions for bus service. They provided information but that was it. They were more occupied with their conversations with one another than helping guests. We will not come back to this Hostel sadly. There are other hotels that were very friendly and helpful by far than what I experienced at this Bus hostel. Also when we checked into our room the sheets were not cleaned or the bedding comforter. There were hairs and dirt underneath the sheets!! I asked the fellow cleaning to provide clean linens. I’m sorry for the bad review but it is honest.

I was very annoyed as i booked a female only dorm room, then when i was there suddenly men were staying in the dorm with me.. as a sexial violence victim this was very unsettling.. i was given no notice about the fact they stopped having female only dorm rooms.. if i have been given notice i would have changed my travel plans..

After flying all night, I arrived early at the property. They refused to check me in. I offered to pay for the extra night. They also refused. The Indian guy at the front desk said that they didn't have any beds ready and that I'd have to wait until 2 PM. Later I found out that the room I was in, had three open and clean beds from the day before. I complained to the manager, but not sure if he did anything about his front repectionists and their lies...I won't be staying there in the future, that's for damn sure.

The hostel doesn't ensure the kitchens and rooms remain organized, nor ensure that beds are marked for new travelers. There was a conflict in my room because staff gave someone new a person's bed who had been there.

Dryer was broken. Units were noisy until early morning hours. Place is literally a bus station with 5-6 parking spots of it's own (You'll be directed to open parking several blocks away). Rude staff with a capital R. One fat-faced angry man in his mid-thirties was particularly unpleasant and may very well be descended from trolls.

There were 2 out of 6 bathrooms where nothing was broken. One had no door, one had no handle or lock for the door, and two had broken shower heads. Reviews from weeks ago mention the doors and nothing has been fixed. Management doesn’t seem to care much. Also, the pictures provided are out of date. The lobby has been remodeled and they removed the bar, essentially removing the major social aspect of the place. It’s in a weird location for walking, but you can make it downtown in about 20 minutes.

It's cheap but think twice before you book...

The staffs were nice and friendly when checked-in. However, the facilities inside were horrible listed below:

As the hostel located to the main coach stop, there's a lot of noise generated in every early morning from the engine.

Peoples smoking outside at mid-night and chatting & laughing brought the noise to the room and woke me up even though I was wearing an ear-plug.

Peoples slam the door every time they back and forth to the room in the morning. They even chatting inside the room in the mid-night even though there're peoples sleeping.

During my stay, I noticed some of the shower rooms door was broken which in turn longer wait time when fully occupied. Not sure the hostel cleaning schedule but every time I found the bin was full and hairs in the basin. The shower holder was broken and you cannot put it back, low water pressure which you just have basic shower only, quite difficult to wash hair.

In the communal area, there's always someone sleeping on the couch which is unfair to others for social chatting as my question is did they booked the hostel and why do they not sleep inside the room?

In the kitchen, the microwave control wheel is nearly mal-function as you have to use a little trick and small push in order to adjust the time, not very convenience to use. The dining table always have some left-over & trash from the previous user.

Overall my stay was not very pleasant except the location is good.

Best place to stay if you want to take tours around Iceland. This place is the hub for Reykjavik Sightseeing tours and you can book all your tours right at the reception area, I highly recommend the tours. New and clean buses w/ Wi-Fi connection and you're also given a personal table with the audio guide of the tour (10 different languages). The hostel is clean, has very spacious individual showers and the kitchen is super nice as well. All and all, just a great hostel vibe!

It was a bed and a shower for my overnight stay in Iceland waiting for a connecting flight home. the kitchen is small and it was very crowded. Other hostels I stayed in provided reading lights and charging ports for each bed, and coffee at least. Nothing is included here except the bed.

I stayed here out of curiosity because I've never stayed in a hostel before. I'll probably never do it again. All the noise of other people going in and out was exacerbated by the world's squeakiest hinges and the hollow thudding shake of a poorly constructed wall when the door closed. The air was so stale after an hour of sleeping that I started to feel panicky.
If hostels are your thing, this one is probably better than some. But this type of accommodation isn't for me. I should have slept in my car.

Last minute saviour!

My flight got rescheduled while I was on my way to the airport. Everywhere else was either too expensive,too far away or totally booked. After an extensive widespread google search I found this place which was about a 10 minute walk from where I was and got a room. Check in was super quick I just gave the front desk my name and site I booked from. Shower water pressure was great 😍 I really needed that and the bed was comfortable. If need be I will return.

It appears that the Hostel has been bought buy a tour company. All of the drivers on break lounged around in the common area. It was not a good look for the lobby. They could have easily gone down in the basement where there was a tv room and a kitchen.
It was really awesome to be able to use a kitchen and cook. Iceland is very expensive. It would be nice if that had a free shuttle to the grocery store.

It's a hostel, so it's more suited for younger travelers. Conveniently close to the BSI bus terminal, and is actually a satellite bus terminal in itself. The spacious common area with kick-back furniture, bar, and popular music makes it a favorite for backpackers and the like. It was packed in late May - still the off season.

Don't stay here!

A disappointing stay. I'd booked a bed in a 4 bunk room for 8 nights, but only stayed for 4. Ran into a number of issues while there, including:

1. The room was like an airport terminal. Often, the other 3 beds were free during the day, but allocated between midnight and 6am. Those occupying the other 3 beds were mostly getting a few hours shut eye before catching a connecting flight, and often left before 7am. So the odds of getting any sleep here are unfortunately pretty poor.

2. There is a severe lack of parking. While I was there, several buses were parked out front. Cars were asked to park either side of the hostel. When I arrived, I took a picture of where I'd parked, and asked the receptionist if it was fine to park here when I checked in. He took a look at the picture and said it was fine. Unfortunately, I'd parked in a space that was not owned by the hostel, and the owner of that space made me aware of this the next day.

3. Because I was getting virtually no sleep here, I decided to go somewhere else 4 days prior to check out. I asked the receptionist if a refund would be possible, but was told the booking was non refundable. I decided to leave my keycard with them, and told them I would be back for my last night. I was told they would consider this as check out, and rent out the bed already paid a second time. I was told if I returned the last night, they might be able to find room for me in a 12 bed bunk.

Literally a hostel built into a seasonal bus depot for tours. Good for convenience of booking if you wanted any, but I was glad I didn't have a car because there was nowhere near enough space for both the buses and the guest's cars. But the Staff was friendly and helpful when it came to deciding things to do, even those that would not financially benefit their tours.

The friendliest and most helpful staff. From check in to check out all those working there made the place feel like home, great suggestions for places to go and served as a great guide. There are only a few of them and since they are so personal we occasionally had to wait 5-10 minutes to speak with whoever was on. Very personal experience altogether.

It was a rocky start. I got there and my bed was taken. The guy working night shift was great. He got me into a bedroom where I was all alone. Nobody changed the sheets in that new room, but once again, the guy got me some new sheets and apologized for the lack of cleanliness. After that was taken care of, I had no complaints. Very good hostel for the price. I loved the showers.

Bus hostles was hands-down one of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed at, offering everything that you need in a homey environment with amazing amenities in the room. With only a 10 minute walk to everything you need in downtown I can’t imagine a better place to stay. ok for budget travelers

Dirty rooms, urine on bathroom floor. Close walk to main bus terminal (bsi). Found it had to sleep as has a bar on site and people coming and going around the clock

Clean warm and convenient

Really quick in and out trip but clean warm and everyone was very helpful. 10 min walk to bus terminal all on paved side walks

A bit run down

A lot of dust under the bed. Bathrooms always running out of toilet paper or hand soap. And one of the shower heads doesn't stay on the wall anymore.
