Opened in 2016, this hotel, along with its sister hotel Von Guldsmeden, follows the Guldsmeden Hotels' guidelines, emphasizing sustainability and organic ideals.

Enjoy locally sourced, organic meals at the on-site restaurant, where breakfast is available for purchase. The hotel's signature design features sustainable, organic, and local products, creating a luxurious yet simple atmosphere.

I stayed here for my birthday and my first trip to Iceland. I chose Eyja Guldsmeden because reviews mentioned good vegan/vegetarian breakfast options. While there were things I liked, several comfort issues affected my stay for a four‑star hotel.

The room was cold on arrival and the heating took too long to warm up the room. I had to turn radiator on. The bathroom was also very cold and would benefit from heated towel rail or underfloor heating. Shower water pressure felt too low. The hand wash was almost empty and ran out after a few days; when I asked for more, I was told none could be found until morning, and only after insisting was a replacement provided. Please explain electricity only works when the key card is inserted into the slot at check-in. The cleaning policy should be highlighted more clearly when booking.

The room didn’t feel soundproof — I could hear people in the corridor, and there was a small visible gap on the side of the door. Breakfast cooking smells travelled through the hotel, and although the lounge area was nicely presented, it felt cold in the mornings.

Complimentary tea was good, but UHT pots would have been better than creamer in rooms. The room didn’t feel very cozy for winter. A blanket/ bed spread would help.

On the positive side, the room design and toiletries were lovely. Breakfast was very good, especially the Bircher muesli and Icelandic breads. The location was excellent, and tour pick‑ups right outside the hotel were very convenient.

The place was in an industrial area so be aware that you have to walk for 5-7 minutes until you get to the “main” area of town with restaurants and shops. The free parking is what did it for me. My only complaints are that the gym was pretty lackluster (there’s really just yoga mats and a broken row machine) and the bar and restaurant close so early - I believe at 9? Having some food options other than chips for nights when we came in later would have been great!

One of the coziest hotels I've stayed at! Lovely interior, lots of places to eat, read, work, enjoy conversation. Room was immaculate, tastefully decorated. Rooms are the same with very comfortable beds and lovely bathroom amenities. They also have a happy hour in the evening, which is nice. The only downside is that it is in a rather ugly industrial building, but it turns out that many of the buildings in the city look just like it. Ugly on the outside but Beautiful inside. I would definitely recommend staying here. Within walking distance of rainbow Road, the church and the pedestrian area.

A comfortable stay

I enjoyed the friendliness of the staff. The room was comfortable for myself and well-kept. I read some comments about the location, that the hotel seems remote to some. That entire area of the city is walkable, and Laugavegur Street is only a couple of blocks away. That's where the entire walk towards the center of town begins with multiple shops that distract you while you do a 15-minute walk or so towards the harbor. I didn't find the hotel \"remote,\" in other words, but I understand that it's not in the center of town, which was fine by me. The weather was perfect for walks. My only concern would be true of most of the hotels in this area, which is that none of them came with breakfast included but the approximately $30 fee wasn't unusually high if you compare prices at similar restaurants in Reykjavik. The city restaurants are pricey. I usually prefer for breakfast to be included. Other than this, I appreciated how the hotel coordinates well with the bus services that take one to excursions and to the airport.

This is a quiet hotel and we found it great value. We had a room with a view of the harbor and mountains beyond.

Hot complimentary coffee and tea were always available. We ate breakfast there several mornings- the buffet is lovely. It is an additional cost, but all of the food tasted homemade with a wide variety for a range of tastes. We did have dinner there a couple of times after a long day touring, and enjoyed Gull beer, a local draft quite a bit. The food was simple but tasty. There were a couple local restaurants nearby, but we didn't check them out, preferring to relax in the hotel after our long days touring.

Although this is a few blocks away from the city center (tourist area), we met our tour busses at a bus stop nearby or they met us at the hotel itself. We easily walked over to the city center each day.

Our room was on the small side, but comfortable for two. The staff are friendly, and helpful. We really enjoyed our visit and will definitely recommend.

Overall, loved this hotel. Lovely style, great view and the breakfast was delicious (didn't try dinner). Walkable to the main shopping & restaurant areas but is far enough that it's quiet. Flybus Iceland provides drop off/ pick up from for airport transfers. Most attractions (lagoons, tours, excursions) also offer pick up/ drop off at this hotel, which is convenient if you're not planning to rent a car. I would stay here again if I am lucky enough to go back to Iceland.

Property was extremely clean and the chef was amazing. But the customer service in the front was horrible its almost like they never really wanted to help or assist right away. Rooms are extremely small and I do mean small. Also you only get 1 housekeeping day for your room to be cleaned and restocked. Even after picking that 1 day I was left going back downstairs to retrieve my own clean towels. Overall I would never stay there again when I could pay the same price for a better hotel.
