First off: STAFF IS GREAT and very accommodating!

Negatives: As beautiful as it is, our room was on 2 levels. This is challenging because the bedroom upstairs with 1/2 bath was UPSTAIRS and the full bathroom and shower were downstairs.

The stairs are STEEP, narrow and winding. Not for older travelers with a recent knee replacement with luggage. See photos.

Perhaps this layout would not deter younger or more fitful travelers but for us, it wasn’t a good fit.

PLUSES: Centrally located clean and quiet. Lovely appointed and beautifully decorated.
Excellent helpful staff.

Hotel de Orangerie is beautifully located, making it easy to enjoy the charm of the city. The room was cozy and comfortable, perfect for a relaxing stay. While the bathroom layout was a bit unconventional and took some getting used to, everything was clean and well-maintained. First-time guests should consider alternatives. Returning guests who remember this hotel fondly should be aware that the experience has materially changed. This hotel is no longer what it once was. Possibly due to changes in management, the overall experience has declined noticeably.

We stayed here 4–5 times since 2018 and previously had consistently excellent experiences. Unfortunately, that standard was not maintained during our most recent stay. Front desk staffing felt stretched, and service came across as more transactional than attentive.

We paid over €700 per night for a “romantic” canal-view room, but the room was small, dated, and quite noisy, and did not match the same room category we had booked in the past. After raising our concerns with multiple staff members about the mismatch between what was booked and what was provided, we were moved to a different room that typically sells for half the price, without any refund or additional consideration such as breakfast or a goodwill gesture.

At check-in, we were also advised that booking directly rather than through a “third-party website” would have been preferable, which was disappointing to hear as a returning guest.

Our concerns at both check-in and check-out—referencing our prior stays—were met with limited engagement. After three nights, it was clear that the hotel no longer delivers the level of value or experience it once did.

If you stayed here years ago and enjoyed it, be aware the experience has changed.

The staff couldn't have been more attentive, the entrance, common area with the lounge and dining room spectacular. The views from the antique windows were magical. Honestly, the common areas are as you would hope for such a magical historical place, the location was excellent, very walkable but quiet on a side street with the patio along the canal. It was really just our room - and not that the bed was not very comfortable, the sheets and amenities of coffee in your room and water - but for the SLH and the cost, I had hoped it would be a bit more kept with the walls, carpet and furniture.

Only drawback is older age people have a problem getting into out of their high tubs, and very low ceiling in the room downstairs-so would not recommend for people over 5’11

The hotel is beautiful, there is no doubt about that! It’s designed perfectly and it feels very luxurious. We were disappointed, however; to stay in a room that had quite a serious mould issue in the bathroom. It covered the walls and the ceiling and caused a very musty smell when the shower was on. We didn't spot this until later in the evening as we had dropped our bags and left earlier in the day to explore the beatiful city. We did contact reception to request a room switch but they didn't respond. It was a difficult nights sleep was I was worried about the affect of the mould on my breathing + chest.

This hotel is quaint and charming. The staff are accommodating and polite. I booked the basic room without fully reading that it’s at the entrance of the hotel. Still a charming room but the noise from the street and sliding doors kept me up. They were able to upgrade me for a small fee. Both rooms were clean, comfy and had everything you’d need. Highly recommend this hotel.

This is a beautiful little boutique hotel. We stayed in the room adjacent to the terrace. While the room was very cute, it was not functional. The air conditioner did not work properly, the ceiling is very low and the shower/tub had a very low ceiling, no shower curtain and you have to always manually hold the water spout to shower. Showering was a challenge and after my shower there was water everywhere. Again, beautiful room but not functional. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. The location is also great.

Best choice in Bruges

The service was exceptional!

The hotel is centrally located two blocks from the main square. When we arrived, they had our rooms ready two hours early. They provided us with great information on where to go and had a welcome drink ready.

Babette and Laurence were helpful and friendly throughout our stay.

The rooms were clean and well appointed. Though it's rustic, the hotel was updated in all the important areas. The bed was stellar, and the bathroom fully appointed and updated. Excellent water pressure in the shower (a common issue in boutique hotels) and a fully functioning coffee/espresso maker! Plus they provided a bottle of still and a bottle of sparkling water daily.

Great location in the heart of Bruges a boutique hotel that offers charming facilities with very good standard and personal attentive service. Excellent extensive breakfast buffet with hot and cold choices served in a lovely dining room using quaint delicate crockery. We felt the Terrace area on the side of the canal was spoilt somewhat by the co-location of tourist boats and lines of tourists waiting to embark. Overall a very nice experience if a little overly expensive for what is on offer!

What a beautiful, unique experience. We arrived nearer to noon than 3 but our room was ready. We were gifted chocolate, two welcome drinks from the bar, and a detailed walking map with a route outlined. Our receptionist had a beautiful smile and we felt perfectly welcome.
Our room was a “Comfort room” with a view of the belfry tower. A few times we opened our window to enjoy the cool air, but majority of the time used our very effective AC. The room has a mini fridge/bar, a writing desk and enough access to charge our devices.
The bathroom is marble with a hand held sprayer and a rain shower head. Instant hot water made the shower efficient and pleasant.
The bedding was extra comfortable. I wish I could bring these sheets home with me! There were two super soft “throws” in the closet, which we used throughout the stay.
We stayed three nights. During our stay we asked for extra water - they provide a bottle of still and sparkling every day, but I drink a lot of water- and extra coffee. One day I was sick and stayed in all day - they graciously left a basket of towels and supplies outside our door.
The common areas are beautiful, warm colors, rich fabrics, beautiful wood paneling and elaborate fireplaces. We now wish we had switched our schedule and spent more time here. Not because of Bruges, but because of the quality of this experience. It’s not modern. It’s not busy or noisy, it’s perfectly complimentary to a stay in a medieval town.

This was the second week of our Europe vacation and this Hotel was beautiful and clean and the wonderful staff made our vacation absolutely perfect. The only minor drawback had nothing to do with the people or hotel but the shower. The shower has a soap dish that is placed in such a way that both my husband and I hit ourselves on it each time r showered. It’s in a very awkward spot.

The Orangerie provides a relatively affordable glimpse of the luxury world. Rooms are larger than most hotels, bathrooms are a little small, but very well designed. We picked this hotel because of the Small Luxury hotel designation and it was as good as we expected. The entrance is a little downtrodden, but immediately upon entering you can see the care taken in the public rooms in the back and the friendly staff service. This hotel falls into the ones I think are jewels and likely to be overlooked - sadly - by many travelers

Wonderful property in the heart of Bruges. A former convent, this classically adorned hotel is filled with character and history. Staff is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The hotel use to be a convent. The hotel is very unique and we loved our stay. The staff was beyond helpful, friendly and gave excellent service. I highly recommend staying here if you visit Brugge. Great location and the hotel gave us a walking tour map! Their parking is a few blocks away but there is also public parking that’s a bit cheaper.

WiFi was drop constantly. It would happen every 5 minutes. After I mentioned it to the staff it did get better but it would still happen throughout the day. This was not a huge deal but became frustrating when I was try to address an issue with a previous hotel and the WiFi would drop and it delayed my conversation with them.

Pretty hotel, but not clean

This hotel was in a convenient location to walk around the city. It has a cozy sitting area for a drink and working fireplace. Room was large and comfortable. However, when it came to going to sleep, the pillow had a large orange stain that looked as though someone had used it and it wasn’t cleaned. There were numerous strands of long hair, as well as smaller hairs, as though someone slept in the bed and the sheets were not changed. The room telephone does not call down to the reception so I had to walk down to the lobby for assistance. They came and changed the sheets but did not seem surprised. Based on this, I cannot recommend this hotel because there are other beautiful hotels in the area.

A foggy winter weekend in Bruges

In Dutch we use the word mist for fog… it was foggy…misty? Or rather mystique?
Bruges is beautiful in the fog in the winterperiod, when Christmas lights give it that little extra touch. The hotel was warm and welcoming, and beautifully decorated for Christmas. Centrally situated and next to the canal. I would avoid a room on the groundfloor with Frenchdoors leading directly onto the street… you cannot leave them ipen for one ( everyone passing can walk straight in) and secondly, you get woken up very early in the morning by the waste collection trucks in the street.

We had a wonderful stay. It was our first time in Bruges and we couldn’t have picked a better hotel. The location couldn’t be any better. Right in the historic center yet the rooms are very quiet. The property is beautiful and really well decorated. The staff are incredibly friendly and always available to answer any questions. The breakfast was incredible, so much to choose from including crab and champagne!

The room was filthy, with stained carpets, IKEA bedding, and moldy windows. The heater emitted a burnt plastic smell, and we discovered it was full of dust, trash, and items from previous guests. The showerhead came out of the wall, and the sink was clogged with sludge.

At checkout, Corinne claimed she didn’t know it was my birthday and offered water and cookies as an afterthought, which we declined. This hotel fails to meet basic standards of hospitality or cleanliness and does not deserve its 4-star rating.

From the sheer amount of positive reviews for this hotel, it made it a no brainer to book for our night in Bruges. The location is great, not too touristy or busy but easy enough to get the main parts of Bruges. But, I will say while overall it was good, it was honestly just good. For being a small luxury hotel you kind of expect/hope for it being more than good. The doors have no soundproofing so we got to hear the conversations of everyone who walked past which while it was off season didn’t cause too much disruption, it was still a bother.

As for cleanliness, the room on the surface looks clean, but the nespresso and cups had dust and dirt in them, and the pillows and sheets on top were clean (the silk cover was a nice touch) but when you peel them back finding stains of all sorts kind of ruins the charm.

As for the staff, I think we maybe checked in on a slow night or something. It was all a bit much, like too much almost me on the verge of going could you just let me get to my room. The kicker for me which knocked the staff down was that as a guest I really really really do not want to hear staff gossiping about guests in not an exactly quiet way. The staff in the morning were pleasant and nice but again we were just checking out so it was a quick interaction.

Overall, when we come back it won’t be a ‘we have to go back there’ instead more of let’s see where else is available.

Wonderful hospitality and staff so so helpful, perfect breakfast, and for my early breakfast needs, made me coffee. Room great and overlooked the canal. Did not get a chance but the owner will even give a tour of any part of the city you wish. Great pride of ownership. Very very nice.

What a beautiful and quaint hotel right in the heart of Bruges.

The staff were extremely friendly and efficient. Lovely touches on checkin and checkout.

The location of this property was fantastic as it was on a quiet street just off the main. As far as cleanliness, our room was clean, but our bathroom was not in due to a large clog of hair in the shower. I flooded the bathroom floor. Not exactly the way I wanted to start off the first hour of our visit. Our room itself had a very undesirable location. We weren’t even inside the hotel proper. And I was told that was because I did not book it directly with the hotel. The people who work there were very nice I just feel that I Wasn’t given adequate information about the room that we were Reserving. Expedia needs to do a better job of that explanation I never felt unsafe But I also never really felt like we were part of the hotel. I thought the lounge was very nice, Quiet and relaxing. After the bathroom flooding incident, no Adjustments were made To our bill.
