As a family with 2 rooms we loved this hotel was worried after reading poor reviews but we were happy with everything. Rooms good and beds were very comfortable, breakfast was plentiful, and staff were pleasant and helpful. Maybe a little faded in the rooms a little chipped paint etc not totally modern but not enough for us to worry about. I guess it depends on your expectations of hotels but we were more than happy with this hotel. Was not too far to town centre and Christmas market a 10 minute walk maybe but nice and quiet surroundings. Had parking for our two cars but may have not had so much room if arriving late as could not reserve spaces. First visit to Lille as usually go to German Christmas market but we really liked the town. All in all a very good trip.

For a 4-star hotel, I would say it was very dissatisfactory. The carpets have stains, and the toilet is very old and needs a serious renovation. The shower space was clean but it does not have a shower head (yes I am not joking). There was a broken hand held water spray that leaked water from everywhere. I asked them to fix or replace it and add a showerhead but they told me “it is impossible” (can you believe?). The built in iron was not working properly.
However, the breakfast staff are very nice and wonderful. The Comfort Suite room is spacious and the layout is nice.

this 4 stars hotel needs better maintenance.
we checked in our room and found out that the refrigerator
was not working,the toilet flush was malfunctioning,the carpet in the room was spotted.this was fixed the next day
(exept the carpet that need to be changed).
The location of the hotel is excellent especially for the Lille brocante.
Concerning the service,we forgot somethung in the room and called the hotel to tell them to check the room,they said that they would check,they never got back to us

Kind staff doing the best they could under the circumstances. We came for the Braderie de Lille and had no idea our hotel would be hosting events. There was a loud rock band performing outside the hotel every night. We wish we’d been informed of this when booking. Our room also had a leak from the room next door. We discovered after coming back into the room midday. Some of our belongings were wet. We were switched to the only room they had available which was a downgrade. It was older, had little light, and no air conditioning. It also had sloped ceilings and I banged my head on the edge of one of the corners one night. My 6 foot tall husband couldn’t stand upright in the shower.

Avoid. Misleading advertising.

No air con even though their website states ALL rooms have it. Airless room with no ventilation.
27° overnight. Asked for refund so we could move to another hotel. Refused.
Moved on 2nd night into disabled room. Shower didn't work and on opening the curtains, the curtain rail fell down.
Reading reviews generally, the air con is complained about alot but they are doing nothing to rectify this issue. 1st member of staff was useless and kept promising to come back to us with a solution but didn't bother. 2nd member of staff (Samuel) did what he could to help but ultimately there were no solutions in this awful hotel.

Great location, and super friendly staffs. But, i would expect free car park for guests. I also beleive rooms need updating, really dated carpet and furnitures. Attention to details is lacking, ie. Windows paintwork is black and flaking... Las5 comment is monday morning laundry collection starting at 6.30am, for ~30mn: very noisy when your room is at the front of the hotel, is there really no where else for this task to be done??
Continental breakfast buffet is good unless you want scramble eggs, they look and taste disgusting!

The property was clean and tidy and has a nice bar area with a lovely and helpful bar lady called Aurelian. The rooms were comfy but rather poorly lit - impossible to read a book in bed.
On arrival we were given two double rooms but had booked two twins. This took about 50 minutes to resolve and the reception staff did not apologise but seemed to think they had done us a favour! They were generally rather offhand. On our second night one was working in the bar area taking up a table and having a very loud online conversation.

Terrible time in Lille

Firstly, my room had no air conditioning in August. I asked for a fan and was promised one, but it never arrived. My room was on the ground level facing a parking lot, so I could not leave the window open at night. As a result, my sleep was very limited. Secondly, the desk clerk gave a key to my room to some couple at 11pm one night, so they walked into my room when I wasn't dressed. Finally, the desk clerk promised to compensate me for my terrible experience and I never heard from the hotel.

We booked 3 rooms for two nights, however after checking in, they only gave us one room with air-con, the other two has only a fan in it. It stated the hotel has air-con and we were really disappointed, especially it’s in the hot summer time. When we ask if they could change for us for rooms with air-con, they said they were fully booked and refused to change.

We finally decided to stay only one night and check out on the next morning.

This is your responsibility to state the real situation of your rooms, don’t just put air-con in hotel details if you are not able to provide it.

Generally this is an experience with disappointment.

Live like a nun for one night

No wonder Frauline Maria ditched the abbey for the villa! This convent turned hotel has a gorgeous entry way and restaurant/bar area. However, the room is dreary and dated. The area that surrounds the hotel is safe and has lots of brewery/restaurant/shopping options. It is a 15 minute walk to the train station, easy to navigate.

Hotel is very tired
We were in rooms not on the central courtyard shown in all the pictures.
There is no Air-con in the rooms or most of the hotel which was hard when it was 32 degrees.
The window blind was in pieces on the window cill
The tv kept retuning every 15 minutes so was unusable.
The bath plug was stuck so could not drain the shower
The shower screen leaked all across the bathroom floor
The shower head was old and didn’t work properly
I reported the above issues to reception when we checked out but no note of issues was recorded
The carpet room had a large numbers of holes in it and peeling wallpaper, it’s very tired Room 322
We booked two rooms but we were given room as far away from each other as was possible on different floors
The central bar/restaurant has no air-con so was almost unusable with the recent weather
This is not a 4 Star Hotel it’s a 3 Star at best that needs investment
Well placed in Lille but I’m embarrassed I chose it!

A neglected two star for the price of four.

The hotel opened 33 years ago and it shows. It’s like time had stopped. Everything is tired and rundown, the floor carpet in the worst condition I have ever seen, the whole architecture concept old fashioned to say the least. All for the price of a four star that the hotel still claims to be. Just avoid it until they renovate it (construction to start next year, they told me). For info: parking overnight costs 21 euros (which we were not properly informed about at arrival).

I cannot understand the positive reviews for this hotel. I paid for an upgraded deluxe room which was around £60 more than rooms in the other 4 star properties in Lille. Sadly despite being moved by a very accommodating-but embarrassed receptionist the rooms were dated, poorly maintained and cleaned - two different beds are in my images. I had no choice due to logistics but to stay. No manager available all weekend. It then took a week to respond to my complaint. Eventually an offer of a refund but a week later Hotels.com have still not had this authorised by the hotel. I now know that the hotel is due a full refurb. It so needs it. The carpets in common areas, like the bedrooms, are all stained. Basic maintenance has not been carried out and to have chairs as battered as they were shows a very badly run hotel. As a business owner I know that some customers use reviews as a weapon which is why I have taken 2 weeks to post this review to see if the management could resolve it speedily. Sadly not! How can a large hotel never have a manager available for Expedia to resolve an issue?

Great location with clean and welcoming rooms

The hotel is conveniently located. It is very close to the historic Citadel, now a large park with a zoo and amusement park, and fantastic for walks and runs.

The hotel is a short walk to the centre of Lille and about a 20 mins leisurely walk from the Eurostar station.

The hotel has been modernised. The rooms are clean and welcoming and very quiet. The bar served a good range of alocollic and non-alcoholic cocktails and drinks. Breakfast was included in our booking and there was a good variety.

We found the staff friendly.

Having seating in the room made it more comfortable to relax between activities. Very spacious room. 1st and 2nd floor carpets and facade looked new and fresh, 3rd floor was dinghy looking with stained carpet and lighting on/off along corridor making it dark.

We checked in to the very impressive hotel after a long drive from Lyon.
When i put the card into the electricity box in the wall nothing happened.
I took it out and put it in again and there was a loud bang and a long of sparks. I gound myself on the other side of the room im literal shock!
We went straight back to receptuon who gave us the key to another room straight away. When we got to the new room it was clear that the half a bottle of complimentary water hadn't been replaced from the previous guest and there were signs of poor workmanship in the bathroom, especially in thenside panel which was left open to access plumbing.

The location for Couvent de Mimines was excellent. Just across the street you were able to enter the Citadel and we often walked there to have a beer on the canal boat Archimedes. The lively street cafes were a short walk towards the center of town. The staff was very accommodating and helpful to us.

Nice, clean hotel in excellent location. Extremely firm bed made it hard to sleep.

Toiletries are horrible here, so bring your own. Shampoo was watered down to the point it barely lathered. No conditioner provided, so had a day spent walking around Lille looking a frizzy, tangled mess.

Hair dryer barely blew any air, and what did come out was cold, so if you dry your hair consider bringing that as well. Washcloths also not provided.

Great location and stunning building. Unfortunately in need of some renovations with tired carpets, chipped door paint in rooms, dated bathrooms. Not expected from a 4 star hotel. Still wondering about the rationale for handing bathroom supplies in a ziplock bag at reception instead of having them in the room. On-site parking extortionate at 21 euros a night. No hot breakfast, only continental.

The location for us was brilliant, we loved the hotel and it's sense of history, breakfast was faultless, room service was great.The only thing that let it down slightly were the shabby chairs, flaking paint on our window sill and stained bath, feel it needs a little bit of TLC in places to rate as 4 star although other aspects would merit that. Will stay again as we go to The Braderie and it's perfect for us.Just needs some maintenance here and there!

Stayed for a week in this really nice hotel. The reception staff were incredibly helpful and I thank them for their helpful attitudes.

The bed is quite hard so if you like soft beds you may want to give this consideration. For me though it was perfect. The rooms are warm, I turned off all the heating and was still cosy so no need for those fluffy pyjamas!

Their are loads of bars and restaurants within a 10 min walk but the hotel has its own very nice facilities.

I would stay here again and definitely recommend it as a short or long term place to stay.

Lovely hotel; great location, delicious filling buffet breakfast included in price, 2 adults and 2 children fit comfortably in suite. If you can’t park at the hotel, there is parking at ‘parking plaza car park’ 17 euros for 24 hours and 5 minute walk. Everything is closed in Lille on Sundays!! Possibly Monday’s too!

Hotel not full but despite this was given a tiny room right next to a very noisy lift. The lift shook and jolted every time we used it. We asked to change rooms and were given one (a bigger one - why weren't we given this in the first place as the hotel was not full) 3 doors down so could still hear the lift. Also although the communal area (inner courtyard) was very pleasant the walkways around it were all cluttered and untidy. I stayed here about 15 years ago and it was my first choice as it had been so charming then. I will not be returning. It has gone down hill and the rooms, though clean, are verging on grotty.

Good Option: Good Location

OK, the hotel is stuck in a bit of a 90’s timewharp, but it is a pleasant enough hotel with a nice location, comfortable rooms (dated décor), friendly staff and a good food offering (breakfast and otherwise). There is also parking!

No it is not a five star hotel, so go and stay at the nearby Relais et Chateau Clarance Hotel if that is what you want. This is a steady, if in some ways stuck in the 90's four star hotel.

There is no gym if that is what you need, but Lille's Citadel is just around the corner and offers wonderful jogging opportunities.

My only gripe is that the bathroom of room 401 could have done with an application of bleach around the bath as mould was starting - but it was only just starting and a good clean with bleach or similar would sort it.

Breakfast is recommended as they have a solid offering and alternatives in the area are a bit limited, especially on Sundays. I didn't eat in the restaurant in the evening (and some evenings the restaurant was closed), but the food in the bar was surprisingly good.

The hotel does feel out-of-date as the furnishing looks dated. With closer inspection, you will notice the odd maintenance repairs made that was not well done. The shower was relatively weak. The service is good and hotel is very clean nonetheless. I would have opted to another hotel with the same price which is probably slightly better with the interior and better location.

Great location

Lovely hotel, although the room was small but it was only a standard room, i would upgrade next time;one problem was nosie outside early morning, builders working and using noisy machinery from 8am! I want to chill whne i am away.
Drinks in hotel very expensive 9 euros for a beer so London prices or more, we didnt stay in the bar long because of this, although we eat there and the food was resonable.
I felt the room could have been cleaned more thouroughly as found some old used dental floss in our wardbrobe and the toilet seat was yellow!

Staff at reception were helpful and spoke good English which was much appreciated with our little French that we speak.

It is in a great location near a canal.

Beautifully restored hotel near Lille centre

We stayed five nights at the Couvent des Minimes recently. The former friary has been beautifully restored, creating a stunning hotel. Our standard room was spacious and very comfortable but had no view. Staff were all very helpful and courteous. We ate twice in the restaurant and the food was delicious although we did feel the bar was rather expensive, likewise the breakfasts at 19euro per person so we ate breakfast in local cafes instead. The hotel is a short walk from the centre of old Lille and well placed for sightseeing.

Hotel has potential to be excellent, building is beautiful, but a few things let it down. Our room was very comfortable but a little on the tired side, paint peeling, marks on carpet. The cleaners had clearly been in but there were old wrappers, empty shower gel bottles etc that hadn't been disposed of from previous guests. Our main gripe was the service we received at Reception. Despite being fairly sure that we had only booked a room only tariff we were told over and over by the receptionist that breakfast was indeed included. So for the two mornings that we were there we went and had breakfast only to find that on checkout we were going to be billed for it - and at an extortionate price for food which was mediocre at best. My partner complained, the receptionist was not particularly friendly and begrudgingly agreed to remove one of the days but still we ended up paying a whack of money for food we wouldn't have bothered with if we knew it wasn't included. There are so many nice restaurants in Lille we would have found somewhere else. That said, the location is fantastic, useful to have parking albeit at a cost but at least we knew the car would be safe, and the bed was very comfortable. I think next time we would probably try somewhere else though.

Coming back to a hotel we had stayed in some years ago was disappointing. For a 4-star hotel to have a double lift nearest to the reception with one not working for four days seems to us to be less than up to standard. We were on the fourth floor, and in our late 70's using the stairs was not an option!
The room was reasonable and the bed comfortable, though there was not enough storage space - indeed, there was enough hanging space, but no places to store other clothing (apart from our suitcases, but only one place for those!). The cleaning service was very good.
We were presented with an incorrect bill before departure, having been charged in advance on a credit card.
We thought the staff were not particularly welcoming, or warm in their approach to guests.

Very enjoyable

We enjoyed our stay very much except at the last minute we are asked to vacate our rooms by the cleaner at 10.30 when the check out tome is 12.00 (for both rooms)
