Room was fine but noisy with all the bars below. Very conveniently located opposite the station. Would have liked person checking me in to make it clear there are two options for breakfast (which was served in room above the bar that I didn't like much): better to just order breakfast in the bar if wanting croissant and coffee. Had good value evening meal there.

This hotel was perfect for a quick stay in Lille. Service was friendly and room was just fine. They allowed us to drop our bags off early so we didn’t have to walk around with them. The only negative was when we entered our room it was full of flies but that was due to a window being left open. Overall was a good stay.

Stayed a night, they have a very worrying approach to fire safety. There was an alarm at near midnight, so a group of guests got out of bed and went down to the bar area. The guests were completely ignored and we saw no one doing anything about the alarm, or any safety checks on the floors.

Eventually the alarm stopped. I asked what it was, and was insulted by a staff member and told to go back upstairs using language I won't repeat here.

Very unnerving, we will never be staying there again.

Not great toilet brush in the communal shower room just on the side. Not in a holder. No soap in the room or shower. Soap at the sink in the communal shower room. Towel rail has come off the wall and not been put back. Curtains clean but too thin to keep the light or noise out.

Location was amazing with a pleasant welcome however our trip changed when we discovered that raw sewage was coming up through our shower tray. We informed staff of this who seemed very disinterested. This then gradually got worse before going across our floor, making the bathroom unusable. The sewage was then going through the ceiling to the floor below and eventually down a further floor to the restaurant. Even at this point the staff only said that they would ring ‘the big boss’. At no point did they seem apologetic towards us. We had to leave the room for the day and fortunately it had been repaired on our return minus the smell but not what you expect even from a budget hotel.

The hotel is clean, close to everything, very convenient, and quiet. I think it's just a problem of management. If you want to save money it works, but don't expect anything extra at all.

Basically, it's a bunch of rooms on top of a restaurant, not a Hotel. They have no one in charge of the hotel guests, and nobody paid attention to us for at least 10 minutes, then, we were received by a waiter, and they were not kind at all. I understand a little because they are there to serve tables and not to help tourists.

When we wanted to check out was another story. Once again, we stood up for 10 minutes at the front desk, and then someone screamed at us that we just have to drop off the key at the table. We were trying to get some breakfast at the restaurant, but they didn't allow us to sit at the front with our backpacks, they refused to give us any directions or help and they were super rude. In the end, we just decided to eat in another place.

Overall it was ok. Perfect location for walking or transport. Hotel a little disappointed as staff not overly friendly. And shower was very small and average size person would struggle to fit in! Lift broken while we were there and as we were on 5th floor found spiral staircase very difficult! And in desperate need of repair! Having said all that, even though hotel is opposite train station it was surprisingly quiet at night. Would choose another hotel next time though.

Was it the stink of sewerage in the bedroom, the smoke coming through the gaps in the door, the scurrying of something in the wall cavity or the absolute rude and arrogant attitude of the mostly female staff, the refusal to speak to me, saying quite clearly, no we don’t speak English, when they could , that made me feel so welcome. I have stayed hotels all over the world and this the worst ever. Do not go there.

The walls are made from wood we can hear noises all the time.
The elevator was being changed and they didnt inform us before we booked, my wife is pregnant and we took the stairs.

The room hotel was quite basic. No chance to prepare a tea or a coffee as the facilities were not available.
The handle of the toilet door was broken. So no chance to lock yourself in when using the bathroom.The shower was tiny, the pressure of the water not good enough to have a decent shower. No proper heating available in the bathroom except for a very hold style heater sitting against a wall and working with a timer. Bed was comfortable but small for a couple.

I stayed here over the weekend to be close to the Eurostar terminal but also the town centre and the exhibition hall, and so it was in the perfectly equitable location. The anticipated downside is the street outside - a main thoroughfare opposite the regional railway station. But it was not as noisy as it might have been. The rooms were fine, the wifi was decent, the bathrooms clean, the lift worked, the staff spoke good English and tolerated our poor French.

classic European station hotel, could be better

a convenient location right across the street from the Lille Flandres train station, this basic but charming enough hotel could be much better by just having the rooms cleaned well and the reception a bit easier to manage, maybe earning its higher than expected price.

the bathroom was clean and modern, and the room was good enough. the bed was a bit beat up but at least clean. unfortunately the rest of the room seemed not so well cleaned as the bathroom and hallways.

the reception is at the bar of the eponymous bar/restaurant at ground level and is difficult to negotiate with luggage. while the manager/owner is friendly and attentive, the staff on our visit seemed to be doing the stereotypical European 'i cannot be bothered' act .. or just having a bad day. but again, the owner/manager was there to save the day.

the location is great, stone's throw from the station, while right next to the old town and other interesting sites. of course being next to a large train station can bring some noise, especially at night, but the windows did a good enough job even with a lightly sleeping baby.

Wi-Fi works well, though you have to reconnect every 2 hours.

all in all a good enough hotel in a great location, but for the money should be a bit better IMHO.

Only if you are tight in budget go for this one!

My stay at the Napoleon was ok but not great. Pros: 1) Excellent location opposite to the Flanders Train Stations, lively neighborhood with many restaurants and cafes open until late.
2) Clean Room
3) Very cheap and unbeaten rate.
4) Restaurant at hotel serves delicious food.
Cons:
1) heating system was useless. With temperature outside close to freezing point, the heating system was able to warm the room and increase its temperature to 8 degrees only.
2) not all staff speak English
3) It is impossible to get your room before 14:00 even if it was ready. (No early check in).

We were able to find a room for £37 for a night, and for that price, this place was really good. Clean and fresh room, although the floor was leaning quite heavily. The roads around the hotel were being worked on at the time we were there, so there was no traffic at all basically. Quite a lot of people on the streets though, so it wasn't super quiet. The location is really good, very close to the train station. If you're looking for food or drinks, it's probably worth it to venture a few blocks further towards the Grand Place though.

Hotel is a bit dated, and that is its charm.

The hotel is centrally located, next to the very noisy Lille Flandres square. Rooms are spacious and clean. There is a bar downstairs, where breakfast is served. The reception is at the bar. Unfortunately the receptionists' English is terrible, which caused quite a bit of miscommunication about the final bill! Next time I'll take my bussines elsewhere.

budget hotel for a short stay in lille

my wife & i stayed at le napoleon for a long weekend in lille. the hotel's location is perfect. it is close to eurostar lille europe station & right across the street from the metro gare de flanders. most sites/museums & restaurants are within walking distance. the room itself was very budget. it's size is small, and the bathroom was a bit dirty with mold. my wife didn't like the bed as it hurt her back, but we didn't expect 5-star since the price was so low. this hotel is more for young budget travellers on a short stay. there is a cafe on the ground floor that we got drinks from, but we didn't try the food. bring earplugs as the people and street outside can get noisy.

The staff at the hotel were so lovely and helpful and as we arrived by Eurostar the train station is nice and close to the hotel but that is where the good points end.
Check in was very quick and easy.
The room was old and dated, they really need to be renovated and fast.
We had a lovely view of the office block opposite and the homeless noisy drunks!!
Definitely wouldn't stay here again, if you have the money it would be more worthwhile staying as close to the main square as possible, much better hotels.

Cheap clean hotel close to train station

I had a little trouble locating the entrance, since reception seems to serve the restaurant as well. The hotel is as close to Lille/flandres train station as you could get. I was embarassed to have to ask how to flush the toilet. This was the first time I encountered a button on the side of the toilet to flush. The view was nice and the room was clean. Since it was so close to the station and sidewalk restaurants are outside, it might be a bit noisy, but this didn't bother me. The shower was a bit small for me, but serviceable. An acceptable stay at a very good price for Europe!!

An excellent budget hotel

The hotel was amazingly good for its price range. The rooms are of good size and very clean. The location couldn't be more convenient: Right next to the train stations and a short walking distance from the old town. The neighbourhood is not very quiet, but this was not too much of a problem. If all you are looking for is a reasonably priced room to sleep in, this is a great choice!

This hotel is clean and comfortable. The rooms are basic but have everything you need. The lift is a little small but gets from A to B without any problems. The hotel also has free wifi throughout which I found particularly useful.

Situated across the road from Gare de Lille Flandres, and only 400 yards from the Eurostar station, the Hotel Napoleon couldn't be more centrally located. It's a short walk to Grand Place and l'Opera and therefore an ideal base for sightseeing.

A special mention to the staff in the hotel bar who were very welcoming and helpful and made my three night stay all the more enjoyable.

Some renovation going on but this did not spoil our stay.It doesn't charge \"Hilton\" prices so you mustn't expect\"Hilton\" standards We stayed in October and the hotel was full. Very pleasant and helpful staff. Lots of fun with our limited French and vice versa! Good food,good bar.Busy in the daytime.enough people to make it interesting in the evening

It was very basic

We booked this hotel after we couldnt get into the one our friends had booked. The difference between the 2 was quite apparent when we ventured up the dark stairs to the rooms. The rooms were very basic to say the least - however they were very clean as were the towels and bedding and its central location opposite the Lilles Flandres station was good. The hotel owners were also very friendly and the bar downstairs had a great atmosphere and was always busy which our friends hotel didnt have. We paid more than our friends possibly because we booked later but I dont think this warranted how basic it was. Nevertheless it didnt spoil our stay, the hotel owners made us very welcome and I think the fact that it was clean also helped.

budget hotel-you get what you pay for

The small hotel lift was covered inside with cheap smelly lino- the landings and hallways dark and dirty.The room decor tired and shabby. The room was dirty-only one wire coat hanger on a rail and no drawers- so we lived out of our suitcases. There was only one plug so charging ipods and phones was challenging. The bathroom was basic but clean. On a positive note, the hotel was ideally situated in the centre -a short walk from Lille Europa station and opposite the local train/tube station. We spent very little time in the room, and despite it still enjoyed our visit to Lille. Would not stay there again- we feel personally, it would be worth spending a little more for a better standard of accomadation.
