Not calm!

I had the worst time in this hotel. It was so loud (even from the top floor and with the windows closed, I could hear random people sneezing on the street and neighbours blasting music at all hours), and the bed was rock hard so I ended up buying a mattress pad from a store as I was going to be there for a week. It was incredibly hot so it was a huge pain not to be able to have the window open. The decor downstairs was quirky and most staff quite friendly but I still had a horrible stay. Also, if you go there, you’ll probably a PhD in Engineering to figure out to turn the tv and the stove on.

Excellent central location near to both railway stations. Hostel was clean, comfortable and modern; excellent bunk beds in smaller men’s dorm; large lockers (remember to bring a small padlock or hire one for 2Euros). Nice kitchen/lounge area; good showers. Would definitely stay there again.

Came to Lille to see the square and the Citadel, when we checked in we asked if where we were parked was okay, we were asked where and told them, gave us a map that DID NOT have the hotel marked and the font was so small I couldn't read it and were told that some areas would be blocked and you may not be able to out. We had parked in a designated spot and had paid for parking until early morning, we got to our car and it had been TOWED as there was supposedly a massive festival, hotel staff didnt bother telling us this and did not say we were in danger of being TOWED - if they had WE WOULD NOT HAVE PARKED THERE, ( they did not put signage up until after midnight ) useless and unhelpful and cost us hundreds of euros and hours of our time to get our car back, we did not manage to see anything so our trip was a massive waste of time and money. Calm? What a joke.

Hôtel très sympa une fois dans la chambre. Vraiment dommage qu'un tel hôtel soit dans un quartier comme celui-ci .. en face d'un bar et d'un sexshop...
La chambre elle était vraiment bien, propre. Par contre le matelas pas top.
La salle de bain, vraiment bien, avec un sèche cheveux puissant.
Parking disponible, oui, seulement 3 places pour tout l'hôtel donc finalement pas de parking.

It was clean, quiet and the receptionists friendly, communicative and helpful. The €12 breakfast wasn't as good as we hoped: pancakes and waffles were the cold, store-bought variety, but the fruit salad was good. It was within walking distance of the station (Lille Europe). I would stay here again

Nous avions choisi une chambre double (et non dortoir commun, que l'hôtel propose également).

After staying at some awful hostels, I was pleasantly surprised to find that CALM exceeded my expectations. This is very close to the bus/train station so no trouble getting to and from the hostel.

Check-in was also very friendly, accommodating, and a pleasant experience. The front desk staff are of course French, but speak English as well. I know a little French, but the staff were able to communicate to me in both languages effectively and kindly, which meant a lot since I was traveling alone.

The bedspace itself (I was in the all girls suite) was quite nice and offered a lot of privacy and access to ports for charging. I also had access to a spacious, provided locker. The bathroom and kitchen area were always clean, and there was a very young vibe to the place which I loved.

Lille is generally a safe city, which is great since I was traveling alone. That being said, the location is near some 'not-nice' locations and can be poorly lit at night. If you are a woman traveling alone (as I was), I would recommend to be aware and vigilant as always.

Would definitely stay here again!

Very clean and comfortable, lots of space to stow luggage. A separate dining table and office desk very handy.

The kitchenette comes with 2x cermaic hob, a small fridge, kitchen sink and microwave. Basic utentils and dining ware. No knives nor chopping board - a disappointment

The bathroom is a bit utilitarian compared to the room.

Getting to the hotel was a headache because of the roadworks everywhere and getting to the underground parking was an adventure but the reception staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and clean but getting a bit tired. I would stay there again and recommend it to others.

Comfortable bed and quiet nights sleep but the hotel is on the edge of a dirty area. Received abuse from some people on the street at the side of the hotel who repeated this when we returned to the hotel so later on approached it the long way around as felt slightly intimidated.
Also checking in no parking available and quite tortuous finfing a car park overnight.

CALM APPARTMENTS ARE VERY GOOD

Had a really great time. Calm Apartments are so well situated. RIght by 2 rail stations, ie subway and main line, we went to Dunkirk on this one. Lille Eurostar a very short walk away too. Town squares, shops, supermarket all literally on your doorstep. Apartments spacious, clean, and bright, quality towelling. Would highly recommend. Did. It use breakfast facility. Reception manned.

This hotel was in a fairly unsavoury part of town. We were travelling in a convoy of 2 cars and felt very self conscious arriving not this area. Many people just hanging around which made us feel a bit uneasy. Otherwise, reception was fine, staff very helpful and friendly and rooms adequate for what we needed. Location was great for accessing city centre, though I hadn't realised it was so close to the central station - never a great part of town. Parking was safe & secure and just down the street.

Spacious room but I had specifically required a room with a view/window and we ended up in a cellar room with a skylight and no window. Which was a big disappointment. The room itself was big, comfortable and clean. The area is sketchy and the whole area in front of the hotel is littered with trash. Terrible impression coming in.

Very good. A nice location and attentive staff. The late checkout is very useful if you have arrived late in the evening - e.g. from the ferry. The parking is very close, secure and a real advantage. The proximity of Euralille is very useful to buy provisions - especially if it is raining as it was on our visit.The bed was very comfortable! Nice and firm. Not squishy!! Nice art work in the room.

My second visit to Calm Appart Hotel and I will be back if I need to come to Lille again. Keep-up the good work!

City centre hotel, good value for money

Tidy hotel within easy walking reach of city centre. Hotel is a little bit tired but clean and comfortable. Our only gripe really was we were in an attic room and the ceiling was so high we had no window to look out of, even looking onto a wall or another building would have been better than no useable window. Room was quiet though and bed was comfortable, with the added benefit of the tiny kitchenette it would be ideal for a few days visit. we booked parking with the hotel which was handy although we have a large car and it wasn’t the easiest to manoeuvre into the small spaces or down the Miriam of one way streets to reach it.

Brilliant location, just around the corner from Lille Flandres hotel in the city centre. Perfect stay. Room was very clean and comfortable, with added advantage of a mini kitchen, and even though there was a kettle (as well as microwave and fridge) there were no tea or coffee available to make a drink.

Good location between Lille Europe Eurostar station and Lille old town. Walking distance to main sights , restaurants etc.
We paid 10€ for breakfast each day; to be honest we could have done better for cheaper in local cafes. Second morning breakfast was a token gesture.
Rooms comfortable but not spacious. Could have been cleaner especially floors.
There are other hotels closer to centre of the old town. We chose this one as it was the only one that could accommodate the needs of our whole party.

Hotel emailed moreorless as soon as I'd booked through Expedia to arrange check-in and enquire as to whether I would lile a double bed or two single beds.
Warm welcome at reception.

The hotel staff were very welcoming. The room was clean and suitable for a family. However, the room set-up is a bit odd with only a skylight vs. a window. The hotel would be ideal if you are using the train station for transportation; however, it is very difficult to secure street parking (almost impossible). There is a large parking lot in walking distance; however, to drive back to the hotel to pick up your family is maddening due to all the one-way streets, etc. Also, the street behind the hotel is seedy with an 'adult-club' and often times we saw vagrants. We didn't feel unsecure or threatened in anyway, but it good to keep in mind if you are travelling with your family.

The Lille Calm Appart Hotel, as the name suggests, comes with the facility to prepare food within your room and makes it less necessary to seek out alternative eating place(s). It was well equipped in this regard, comfortable, clean with good decor. It was conveniently placed for travel and shopping.

Really good choice of hotel. Central and only a short walk to the train. This was important for us ladies lugging suitcases. Comfortable bed and super clean. Great value for money. We highly recommend!!
One small negative for us was that there was no telephone available to use and all television stations were French. We suggest that one channel should be English maybe CNN.

Amazing hotel in a good location. The rooms are done to very high specifications. The only negative point is the toilets. The toilets are basic and need refurbishment. You need to match the toilet with the rooms as the rooms have very high quality standards.

We weren't impressed

When we first arrived we tried to use the only elevator to take our luggage up 2 flights of stairs. We pushed the button for the elevator to come and it arrived full of dirty linens with no one around to empty it. There were also dirty linens lining the hallway. We were not impressed we had to carry our luggage up 2 full flights of stairs.

The room was ok. I felt like I needed to leave my shoes on all the time. And we didn't feel like the bathroom was clean. We didn't even want to shower in it.

This is is evidently quite a new place judging by the smell of paint. there is a little traffic noise but not enough to disturb your sleep. the decor is rather stark. Kitchen equipment is limited. OK for a short time.

Couldn't be closer to the railway station.

It's always a relief when you arrive at your hotel and find it as advertised. We arrived in Lille at about 7.30 pm, when it was dark and we had no real idea where to look for the hotel. So we bravely approached a group of policemen and inquired in faltering French for directions. To our surprise, they escorted us to the door, which was almost embarrassingly close! We were greeted by a charming hotel employee who issued us with a key code and we ascended to our room on the first floor where we were delighted by the way everything we needed was provided for our use. This feeling of delight, comfort and gratitude stayed with us throughout the three-night stay and when we left on Thursday morning we were disappointed to be told there are no similar establishments in other French towns. Let's hope there soon will be!

The hotel was well located for our visit to Lille. Easy walking to city centre, attractions and restaurants. The hotel was clean and comfortable and the staff friendly and helpful. Also, great shower!! We enjoyed our stay here. This hotel has the potential to look impressive but comes across a little dated instead. A few tweaks and a lick of paint would make a world of difference to its appearance.

Only complaint would be that a couple of items were missing from the kitchen cupboards (bottle opener, second wine glass) but these were replaced by reception when requested. Wifi free and fine.

In a side street across the road from Lille Flandres Station and 5 minutes walk from the main part of town. Good sized room with microwave oven/grill and two hotplates plus kettle. Rather random collection of china and glassware. Got two free breakfasts delivered to the room - each person's bag had enough for two breakfasts and a light lunch. Quiet, though some minor footstep noise from upstairs as there are no carpets. We would stay here again.

The only inconvenient is that In the back of the hotel there is a nigkht adult club and the attendees are a bit weird and wander around the street next to the hotel.

The good:
1. Location is great - only 5 mins walk to Euralille for shopping. Quiet enough as not on the main road. Also about 10 mins walk to old town.
2. Service is great - friendly folks.

Can be improved:
1. Facilities - strangely the kitchen utensils are very limited and this is inexplicable as they know they have 2 guests in a room. One fork? One spoon? One knife? One small mug? No teaspoon and generally limited cutlery (no tin opener, too). They seem to expect 2 guests to share all these between themselves? It makes no sense. Calm should improve and stock up the kitchen utensils.
2. Stove for cooking - as it is electric hob, we had to press the buttons several times to make it work as the hob is not self-explanatory. Calm should provide some manual to operate the hob as there are so many types in the market and not everyone is used to an electric hob.

The not so good (but not Calm's fault):
1. Location - some might find it intimidating as it is just next to an adult shop but it didn't worry us. The area is safe as it is very central.

We will stay again!

On the run to catch a train

We needed somewhere that was close to the train station but also wanted to be able to have some fun and explore the city. This hotel was perfect. Train station is across the road at the end of the street and the walking/shopping streets just a 1 minute walk away. The room was spacious and completely silent. Very restful.

Near train station, modern

Hotel is a block from train station, is modern and clean. All totally white inside rooms. Has AC, windows that open, safe, fridge and full miniature kitchen. Staff speaks good English. It is located one block from main street that leads two blocks later to the Main Square. A few not really child appropriate businesses directly outside but no problems, and the walk to the main square is short and pleasant. Hotel is clean, large rooms, excellent all around. Buy breakfast at Paul's at the main square!

City Break Hotel

The only thing we would add from our personal point of view is more about the city of Lille and not the Calm hotel.
This was the last stop for us on a three city trip, so it made good sense to select a hotel close to both Gare de Flanders and Gare de Lille Europe. Having spent some time in Brussels and then Brugge, there was a marked difference in the cleanliness of the city of Lille and the amount of homeless people and children begging on the streets.In our opinion, the area behind the hotel became a little more intimidating early evening. This didn't bother us, as we had always planned to spend the whole day walking and sightseeing and then to make full use of the kitchenette to cook and eat in of an evening, for this part of our trip. There is a huge Carrefore close buy, so one shop and we were sorted for our three day stop. We only approached the hotel from the direction of the train stations in the evening and the hotel front door security was managed electronically by the reception staff.

We were delighted to discover a hotel, in an ideal location to both stations and the centre of Lille, room was clean, warm and quiet. Great shower and bathroom, staff very friendly and helpful. Ideal base for short trip.

Christmas markets weekend getaway

We stayed two nights only, the hotel comunnication was superb and instant.
Room was nice and clean, probably too clean you could smell bleach as soon as you walk into the building but Id rather smell bleach than dirt, at least you know it's been cleaned! ;)
Only booked this hotel as its right in the centre 10 min walk to the Christmas markets and cross the road from huge shopping centre! So for those who say there isn't many shops I think they are crazy coz the shopping availability is absolutely endless...!!
Would definitely recommend for quick shopping weekend stay..!!
