Unfortunately an incident during check out is the reason why this review is not as good as I would have liked, a charge to my account for something I did not consume from the minibar, 4 bottles of water, not one but 4, “the housekeeping was the one who reported” this. It’s a shame that this lady lied and tried to scam the guests, the incident was corrected and everything was clarified, the girls at the front desk excellent in their job, very friendly and always willing to help, cleaning, breakfast, common areas everything very good, Oscar the manager a little bit reluctant to understand the situation but finally accepted the mistake, what a pity that a single person ruins the good job and effort of the entire staff, thank you for the stay and hosting us, overall it was good, it seems that this happened in the past to others guests bc reading reviews about hotel this popped up in more than one comment, and still happens, this is not good for business,

The electric adapters the hotel provides don't work, so you have to buy your own to charge your cellphone, laptop, etc.
Since there aren't many stores around the hotel, it was impossible to buy an adapter.
The hotel should be thinking on international guests and how to fulfill their needs.

The service was excellent, and most of the staff spoke English or Spanish in addition to Portuguese. We arrived several hours before check-in, but the hotel offered luggage storage, allowing us to drop off our bags and explore the area. Its location is convenient, just 15-20 minutes from the main tourist attractions.

Security is present 24/7 outside the hotel, which added to the sense of safety. The rooftop bar was a great spot to unwind, offering reasonably priced drinks and a relaxing atmosphere. Breakfast each morning had a wide variety of delicious options. The AC in the room worked well and kept the space comfortably cool.

Some staff can arrange taxis at fixed rates, helping you avoid the common scams from regular taxi drivers, which was a huge plus.

Make sure to bring wall plug adapters for your electronics, as the outlets are different than in the U.S.

Provide us very low quality pellow. I requested extra pellow. But they didn't give us extra pellow. Only you can rent pellow, but you have to pay 15 Brazilian real. I have requested 1 cup of hot water.
Nothing is free. You have to pay 15 Brazilian real.
Most of the hotel they give electric kettle. But they don't have any. They should improve their service..

The front desk staff during check in assume a lot just by looking at you and the way you’re dressed. They got frustrated and display a quite unacceptable attitude when you ask them questions they are not used to. They made me feel discriminated which is just not cool at all.

Average hotel for the region, average price. Large room with comfortable bed, though the A/C unit is fairly undersized and takes 1-2 hours to chill to any reasonable temperature. Shower had a general heating issue (affecting other rooms) and the front desk didn't take us seriously when we reported it in the afternoon (understandable-ish, who takes hot showers in Rio anyway? Other rooms didn't report it) and only realized something was really wrong far later when it was already evening and it was completely cold -- maintenance would only be performed the next day.

Basic hotel. Good location with a couple of local restaurants walking distance. Otherwise it’s advisable to get an Uber. Lapa in general is not the safest but the hotel is in a quiet street and even the police told us it’s in a good area.
About 5 mins drive, you have access to lots more restaurants and bars with live music and dancing but be careful with your things.
Breakfast was very good. Lots of options and fruit!
Staff was helpful and attentive.
This is not a luxury hotel but safe and good value for money. If you are not spending a lot of time in your room, it’s is a good option.

Great hotel and accommodations. One unfortunate thing was they were resurfacing the street and for 3 nights in row it was quite loud until well past 2am. No fault of the hotel, the blame lays squarely on the city of Rio de Janeiro, not all marvelous.

Very nice hotel, affordable, about a 15 minute walk from the highlife of Lapa and the center of Rio. Close to grocery stores, restaurants. Very nice gym, rooms are pretty large, the sheets are smaller than the bed (ha,ha). Nice little restaurant. Breakfast is fine, nothing special, I just wish the eggs were prepared as needed, rather than stay cold throughout the morning. The room was not made up after the first night, but extra sheets were provided by the reception when requested.

I enjoyed the cleanliness of the room and the 24 hour room service. Also restaurant staff were very friendly and professional. Also enjoyed the amenities of the hotel like free breakfast, cable tv, air condition, etc.
I think what can be improved is more tours and also the reception staff can more friendly.

With the city being packed for Rock in Rio, and hotel prices skyrocketed, they gave my room away even though I paid in full about 6 months ago. So that left me in the middle of Rio, the only rooms left we’re into the THOUSANDS, and they tried putting me up in a little hotel a few blocks away, saying it was also their hotel, so the room is still through them. Upon being dropped off there, I found the wifi didn’t work, and the room was about 10x10ft square, with signs up against prostitution etc. I had to cab back again and ask what the heck they were trying to do, and demanded my money back. They had me wait and sit in the lobby while they tried to figure things out, and was trying to make phone calls/use my data to resolve my own issue.

I found myself elsewhere to stay. They’re lucky all the got was me yelling and cursing at them. Thieves.

The hotel was clean (despite the less clean neighborhood) and the room was spacious and clean as well. The staff did a good job with daily cleaning. The beds were comfortable. On the other hand, the personnel at the breakfast buffet were not friendly (i.e., they barely said "Hi") and appeared to be "spying" on us because we were foreigners.

Hotel is located in Rio Central and is close for lot of sights and during the Carnival walk to Sambadrome. Very clean prompt room services and full breakfast buffet. Restaurant still open 24H and they have room service. Evening chief prepare delicious meals and you can adjust the menu items. Very safe inside the hotel with safety box , camera every where .Only one small thing on the unpleasant side is the AC stop to work when you leave the room and when come back is very hot and unpleasant.I want congratulate the owner for the god job

The employees were considerate. Some actually spoke English which was helpful. The staff went out of their way to assist me and my other 2 companions with CPAPs, extra beds, etc. I always felt safe. This facility is close to downtown and close to thw Sambadrome. There are not that many amenities near by however. There is a friendly local restaurant across the street which the food is good, reasonable, and the drinks are strong. Overall, I had a good experience.

Mala experiencia! Ademas de no cumplir con lo que proponen el hotel en su página, el trato de parte de la mayoría del personal es deficiente y áspero. No cumplen inclusive en la atención día a dia, el desayuno es muy deficiente sin espacio suficiente y con muy pocas raciones en su variedad. Inclusive contratamos un tour ahí mismo en el front desk mismo que nunca llegó haciéndonoslo perder todo ese día. Definitivamente jamás lo recomendaría.

This is a lower cost hotel in a not so pretty area. There are homeless people all over and it has the general look of the Bowery in the 1970's. If this upsets you, don't stay here. I think the neighborhood is safe, but I am a big guy who can fight. Women foreigners probably won't like it here. The hotel itself is older, but we'll kept, with large rooms. The breakfast is a subjective issue. I didn't like it.....in a country that is the largest producer of orange juice, serving orange colered sugar water is unacceptable. The Brazilian guests did not seem to be upset by the bad egg presentation and constant shortages of food. The hotel personnel are very nice. So, all in all a decent deal.....but about 20-30 minutes to Carioca Metro station.....and if it rains, you are screwed.

I wrote a long review of this hotel. Expedia lost it.....they say it had hotel rates in it....or "profanity". It certainly did not. Nice going Expedia, try a U.S. based system instead of working out of the Philippines, India and Mexico. Maybe this garbage wouldn't happen. Nice hotel btw. It's lower cost, but it is very decent for the price.

Lovely hotel & great staff

This hotel is in walking distance to various places in Lapa and also if you enjoy walking to Centro. The staff here are a credit to the company, they were so helpful and seeing as our Portuguese language skills were non existent they would inform us who we could speak to if we had any questions or needs in English. This happened at the front desk and also in their restaurant, which serves scrumptious meals for reasonable prices. They can also organise a taxi to the International airport for a good rate.

Arosa Rio is located in downtown Rio but it is easily accessible to all the touristy locations. We chose this location because it was a nice hotel that was affordable. I am a gold member and when I arrived, I was not offered any special accommodations, which is odd for a VIP hotel. However, after filling out the Expedia survey, the following day we were upgraded to a different room. Also, my package did not include free breakfast, but they didnt end up charging me after all. The hotel rooms are simple but nice. The only thing we encountered in the second room where we were upgraded to, was a cockroach. We called the lobby and they took care of it. The bed in the basic room was very uncomfortable and I had a backache the following day. The bed in the second room was much more comfortable. The staff were friendly and spoke some Spanish and English. All in all, I think it was a great value at this hotel! There are buses around the corner that take you to many locations. Also, Lapa is like 10 minutes away walking and there are many restaurants to choose from and great nightlife. It is also like a 5 minute walk to the Sambodromo, where the Carnivale is held. I would stay here again and recommend it to others.

The stay was fine except one thing that was terrible!!! On the last day, housekeeping left the room messy and door open, and it stayed that way the entire day. We could have had so much stuff stolen! When I told the front desk they didn't seem to care. Although the stay was pleasant otherwise, this will probably keep me from staying here again.

We reserved a double and found our assigned room was recently occupied as the sheets were wrinkly and the garbage tins were still full. I asked the front desk about it and she upgraded us with a queen with no hesitation. Our reservations also mentioned that breakfast was included but it was in fact not, which caused us some inconvenience. We stayed for a week and only asked for the cleaning lady to come once and none of the toiletries were restocked and she left everything as is.

An incredible place ... A real jewel.

You get a comfortable affordable business hotel for a great price ... and still get total proximity.

I cannot say enough great things about the young women at the front that work so hard, and are so courteous. The same goes for the wonderful room staff and dining team.

In my 14-ywar experience, AROSA RIO is the best move in the Centro / LAPA area. A solid 4-star hotel rating on the Expedia scale.

Nice hotel but very much out of the way

I liked the hotel however it was quite a way from the closest Metro station - a 30-35 minute walk. Taxis were expensive to get anywhere because of the distance the hotel was. The electricity was out for 2 days however this was not the hotel's fault as the entire street lost power - this meant no wifi which I found most inconvenient as I couldn't order Uber and as I said the taxis were expensive.
The staff were very nice and the manager went out of his way when the electricity was out.

Very Fair Hotel.

1) Most of the staff could not understand English nor French . Only a few could understand English!
2) Not much water pressure when taking a shower and the control of the water temperature very difficult to adjust.
3) The Gym. room on the 7th floor, air conditioner was not working . People were coming in the Gym and after
a few minutes, would leave because is was way too hot in Gym.
But, in general the staff were very friendly , and with a cell phone, you could use it has a translator .
