We stayed 3 nights. Very comfortable room. Chose the location because we had a whale watching tour scheduled and could walk to the boat. Nice Marina area. Several restaurants nearby. Would be lovely in the summer. Too chilly to use the nice pool. Very pretty grounds. They have concerts in the summer right on property. Nice restaurant there but we did not use it due to our schedule.

Great staff!!! Super accommodating and everything was fabulous. Certainly resort type vibes. Didn’t get to try the pool bar or concerts because of the time we went, but we would certainly go back!! Would also stay in a water view room next time, but the room we had was clean, beautiful, and perfect for our long weekend. 10/10 experience!

The hotel is lovely. The grounds are well kept and beautiful. The setting along the water is so nice. We enjoyed the pool area a few days during our stay. The room had a tiny patio with 2 chairs and small table. There was also a fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. Beds were comfy. We did have issues with keeping the room cool - the thermostat was constantly set at 60°, but it didn't maintain a cool temp.

My husband and I visit San Diego once or twice a year for a week or two at a time. We love staying on shelter island because of it’s charm and location. Humphrys has always been on our list so we decided to try it this time around.

The positive side, the location at the start of shelter island is ideal. Also, the check-in was wonderful and very smooth. We got a junior suite overlooking the bay and the size was great. The property is also beautiful and the heated pool was a plus!

The bad… our room was dirty. Sheets were clean and we had fresh towels but the floor in the bathroom was gross. The floor around the toilet had a questionable stained area that was outlined in red. We thought maybe it just was missed but it did not get cleaned for our entire stay. We laid towels on the floor to walk on. Our tub was also clogged. So much so that my 15 minute showers would fill the tub. Our mattress was worn out. Both sides had wells. My husband was so stiff by the end of the week, we drug the mattress into the living room and laid it on the floor for the last night.

Normally these kind of things don’t both us. It’s an old hotel, we get it. However, we told the hotel staff about the tub three different times during our 5 night stay. It was never fixed. For the mattress, I asked if there was anything at all that could be done and was told that the mattress couldn’t possibly be worn out because it had just been switched out. I was dismissed. I think there are better options for SI.

We enjoyed our stay here. The resort itself is beautiful and well kept, the landscaping/gardens/plants etc is absolutely gorgeous and they have resident macow birds who live there rent free (lol), and a pond with ducks and fish and it was really beautiful. The rooms are small but have everything you need, the cleaning and landscaping folks were super nice and do a great job. My only downfall is that the room outdoor seating area is literally on the main path where everyone comes and goes, so there is no privacy at all, even to keep the blinds open inside the room, but we weren’t there to stay at the hotel much so it’s not a problem at all, and the pool is right there if you want to sit and relax outside. This hotel isn’t in the heart of San Diego downtown so you do have to uber or drive to get to places, but it is right by the bay which is also pretty great. it just depends on if you want to be in the hustle and bustle inside the towns or if you want bay/pier side/quiet, a little bit out the way. I would 100% recommend this hotel based on my experience here in February.

The receptionist, when i checked in, made me feel like family! Super friendly, helpful, funny, knowledgeable.
Honestly, that was the best part of my experience at the hotel.

The hotel room itself was also amazing! I loved it!!! my wife and i will definitely be coming back to this hotel anytime we are in san diego!

Our room was a bit unremarkable, open to the front street and two beds with a bathroom, no lanai or outside deck. The hotel grounds were pretty and green but the views were of a marina, not a beach. I was expecting different. However, the staff was super friendly and helpful.

Overall had a good stay, great location. The room is in need of a deep clean (carpet cleaning, scrub floors and shower, ect). The sheets were not washed, there were crumbs at the end of the bed. We had a few rain days while we were there so we spent some time in the room with two little kids which is when I noticed some things.

The pictures here don’t do this place Justice. Such a fun little oasis with enough tropical landscaping to make it feel and look a bit like the jungle cruise at Disneyland. Really enjoyed the grounds, and the wonderful pool and hot tub. Had a very spacious and comfortable Junior suite watching the navy ships go by from our balcony. Service at check in was our only interaction with the staff and it was wonderful service. Appreciated being able to check in several hours early. We will come back.

Beautiful views, peaceful environment, and the room was spotless. It was right across from the Downtown San Diego skyline, and it was a waterfront view as well. I highly recommend for all travelers, and not to mention, the hotel itself has a lot of amenities, including drink vouchers for Expedia members, access to the hotel's restaurant, bar, pools, and washer/dryer if needed.

The location is top notch but the “basic, basic room” as our checkin receptionist called it has a lot to be desired. Dated and need of cleaning and repair. Dark mold around tub. Dusty. The front desk staff doesn’t appear to enjoy their work and acts as if guests are a bother.

Room was clean. The check in was super easy. Lots of parking and I could park my car right next to my room. Was there to get some work done. Room was big. Heater worked well. Was impressed that hot water came out of the bath right away....You didn't have to wait for the water to get hot. Had breakfast in the dining hall with a nice view. I enjoyed seeing the Macaws. A quiet and peaceful stay.

Love the idea of this place and surroundings. However, this hotel needs some TLC. Room needs updating, old and not modern rooms. Music venue and restaurant seem great, but not active or open on a Monday nights. Staff was friendly and pointing me in the right direction for food etc. Renovations needed.
