Lovely old coaching inn with loads of character. Obviously very popular for that reason.
However the Bed was absolutely terrible, two singles that did their best to separate. Base sides of bed showing a lot of wear. Need serious replacement of bed. Bedding immaculate though. Lovely pillows.
Breakfast was very poor. Firstly, out of smoked salmon!
Onto Full English, the poached egg was cold and very hard boiled. Deep fried \"scone\" or flatbread, just don't bother!. Beans cold, toast on poor quality loaf and had to be asked for, not offered. Butter was borderline stale or just \"off\".

Shame the breakfast let's down a lovely hotel. Will NOT be BACK.
Come on manager, get a grip!

Breakfast was like something from fawlty towers, yes busy, but shouldn’t have been a surprise to staff who really struggled even to pour coffee and take orders. Food (when it finally arrived 90 minutes after booked) - was v nice and hot.

Clean room, lovely place with modernised bathroom. Our room was up a million narrow stairs so would be quite difficult with a large suitcase. Saying that, we managed with two kids and back packs. The foldout couch bed needs to be replaced though, it massively sags at the head (we didn't use it in the end as we got a cot for the 2yo). We were there end Nov, room was warm. Food was great. Cooked breakfast was from a menu, continental was buffet style. We enjoyed our stay, would recommend more than a night to see everything around the town

We have enjoyed a wonderful stay at The Bear Hotel. We came to enjoy a private family sunday lunch which the hotel did admirably. The lunch was very generous with great selection of vegetables with the roast. The staff were great, serving 25 people promptly without fuss. We stayed overnight and our room facing the rear courtyard was quiet, spacious and clean. Overall we would recommend The Bear Hotel for a stay.

I loved the set up of the rooms. In a great location, amazing price and right next to loads of shops so really handy. A few things that I would say needs to be looked at is the water pressure in the shower , it was really low. There was mould above the shower which just needed simply wiping down. Room was lovely and would 100% book and come back again!

I would have given the whole stay excellent however, the hotel and its reception staff were excellent. What has let it down was the poor service and breakfast this morning.
The staff were inattentive and ignored my hand waving to attract their attention. Our full English breakfast was delivered to the wrong table, taken back to the kitchen and then landed on our table. The food was of poor quality with the majority of it cold. I asked for toast and was given one side cooked. I asked for it to be replaced and the second delivery was burnt.
The hotel room was exceptional and I would definitely return however I probably would not pay for the breakfast again.

I was asked to wait for maintenance in my room, which wasted two hours of my time and resulted in nothing; as a result, I was unable to shave or shower.

The cold water tap makes a loud whistling noise when turned on. Both issues probably need a solution, especially the WIFI. This is our 3rd stay at the hotel. Previously our room was out in the courtyard and if we were to stay again this would be the preference

Fantastic location, friendly staff, lovely room.

We spent one night here with our dog - who was very pleased to have been provided with his own bed! Everything was excellent - the room was wonderfully clean with nice additions (water in the fridge, coffee, slippers & gowns etc. ), fantastic location, just round the corner from Blenheim Palace and right in the centre of town. Lovely breakfast in the morning and the staff were all lovely, friendly and helpful.

Check in staff honestly could not be bothered. Hastily given directions to room only when asked. We were not told the air con system didn’t work. Coming down to breakfast the wait staff were all sat on the stairs near the bottom. This was our second stay. We loved it two years ago but the staff are letting the place down now.

Bar needs help when busy.

The Bar always has a problem every time we go there. When he's filling the dishwasher he isn't serving. And the queue builds up. Each order take ages to complete.
There aren't enough staff to deal with the queues. They need a buzzer to call in staff to help just for 20 mins or so.

Room was very comfortable, if a little hot, but made use of the fan. I was in the area for a family Ceremony on 23rd June. Weather v hot that week. 3 points: 1. Arriving late, in need of a tea or coffee, unable to locate the supplies. Had to seek out a staff member who said it was 'in the wardrobe' . It was in a cupboard under the tv. 2. tiny milk cartons are never enough , so next day I requested some fresh milk for my tea on second morning, approx 7.00am. It did not arrive. At 8.00am a found a Staff member who showed me the request on his phone, which had not been passed on. 3. I asked whether a small bottle of water could be put into their fridge for me to collect the next day. Answer \"we don't have a fridge for that sort of thing\". I think for a Hotel with such a good reputation it was a little disappointing that Staff could not have given a little more time and attention to some small details, eg where exactly to find the kettle etc..
Otherwise all ok and a good location.

Breakfast is now without supplements (they have listened !) - but they had no smoked salmon, two mornings in a row, which is an indictment.

Really disappointing stay at the Bear in Woodstock.

A friend and I booked a modest double room and paid £282 for B+B. Appreciate that Nocturne festival was on but it was extortionate for what it was.

Breakfast was very disappointing to the point I didn’t eat it (in fairness they did refund me). I went to a nice coffee shop a few doors away for a decent cup of coffee.

When we complained - the staff were apologetic and seemed unsurprised. I usually wax lyrical about hotels I stay in - it was really rubbish last night.

Generally the hotel was okay, the bed was comfy and rooms were clean, breakfast was adequate. There is not enough parking with some spaces now being used for al-fresco tables.

Unfortunately the entirety of our stay was tainted by our check-in experience. After a 4 hour drive we arrived at the hotel at about 23:15; At the entrance I told a member of staff that I would like to check in, around the same time that a group of 8 or so guests descended upon the bar and asked if drinks were being served. Despite the fact the bar was closed and the lights were off, the member of staff told us we would have to wait while he opened the bar served drinks. We stood and waited outside the bar with our bags for 15 minutes before he returned and took us to the reception. Once there we had to wait further because he couldn't find our reservation, and eventually had to print one off. We were given keys to a room which was up 2 flights of stairs, and after entering the room we discovered there was already a guest in the room. We then had to return to reception with our bags to get another room, where I was shown a form with my personal and booking details which had been given to another guest and signed. After 50 minutes we finally had a room which was uninhabited by someone else. After all of this we went to the bar to try and relax, and were charged £20 for 2 drinks.

Despite our ordeal we were offered nothing as an apology, and the staff didn't seem to care when we made a complaint.

Had a nice stay generally. Woodstock was fun while we were there as it was VE day.

I did request o my booking a room with old beams. The reply say no as stadard doubles dont have beams, but the photo on Expedia and the hotels own website shows a beamed room for standard double. Slightly misleading.

Our courtyard room was nice though.

We ate breakfast there, food was nice and cereal and pastry buffet welcome. We had to chase up.our coffee order as it didnt arrive and other table's had done.

Didn't eat dinner at the hotel as we had found other pubs and restaurants we wanted to eat at during the day.

Generally to be considered luxury it does need a refurb to compete with other hotels we have stayed in.

Definitely a nice location and the courtyard is a nice setting in the summer.

Would return on a deal rate.

Last minute stay for the weekend. Customer service was excellent, the lady who checked us in was polite and welcoming. We booked a deluxe double room, which was nice but somewhat lacking in cleanliness - visible cobwebs, some broken furniture, considering the price of the room it let the experience down slightly, under stocked tea/coffee as what was advertised for the room. A nice short stay but the room doesn’t match up to the price.

We didn’t sample any of the catering, but, the food we saw looked good.

I don’t, however, think that bookings should be taken for 2 adults and 1 child in the standard room, one king size bed, with 2 mattresses forming it so there is a seam down the middle made for a very poor quality sleep with two adults and a 12 year old in the one bed! Took dog with us, struggled with there being no garden or grassy area at all within the hotel grounds! Would stay again, but not in the same room for three of us!

The Bear is in a fantastic and convenient location for both Woodstock village and Blenheim Palace.

All the Staff we encountered were excellent and helpful (as always!

Especially the reception staff and Breakfast staff.

We had an outside room in the area next to the car park which are larger and more modern than some of the rooms in the main hotel (on this stay the room was faultless room).

The breakfast was excellent and a great example for tourists of the ‘Traditional English Breakfast!’

I still maintain that this hotel needs some money spending on it and some of the furniture and TVs in certain rooms definitely needs a refresh!

Great parking at the rear of the hotel. Large immaculately clean room off the courtyard on the ground floor. Nice bathroom with bath/shower - perfect for us. Breakfast was really good with ample choice, service was also good - very friendly staff.The only down side was an annoying ticking/dripping noise behind the wall of the headboard ! We initially thought it was maybe the heating going on an the pipes expanding but it kept my husband awake for most of the night.

All ok but no heating in my room only had stand alone electric heater and was freezing overnight would have been warmer in my van

Great location!

Stayed there a few times - great location in the centre of Woodstock which is a beautiful place. Lots of nice pubs and restaurants and dogs are welcome. McDonald charge £15 per night per dog which is pricey as they don’t provide anything for them. Hotel is quaint and traditional but it’s tired. Windows are rotten but I’m sure it’s a huge cost for upkeep. Electric charging point and parking is a plus.
