Perfect place to stay in Oslo

This place was excellent! I'd happily stay here next time I'm on Oslo. I'm fairly fussy, and a light sleeper, so if I was happy here, chances are you will be too.

It's a historic building but it has all the conveniences you'd expect. A gym, a restaurant and bar, an elevator.

It's in a quiet area. The curtains block out light and sound. You will sleep soundly here.

The restaurant serves free breakfast, afternoon snacks, and dinner. (Yes, you did read that last part right).

There's a few shops nearby, and a tram line which takes you into Oslo's CBD in around 5 minutes.

It's in a beautiful tree-lined suburb.

Honestly there's not much more to say here - I was very happy here and would gladly stay here again. Read some of my other reviews of places and you'll know I'm pretty fussy... I don't like noise or light waking me up, I don't like places with uncomfortable beds or pillows, or bathrooms that are too small, etc. Everything here was just perfect.

This property is a gem. Beautiful outside with lots of sitting options. Staff is amazing and your 2 meals and snack was a great option and the variety and quality was wonderful. Transportation (tram) nearby to get into downtown. Very quiet at night. Beds were comfortable. We had a twin room which was a good size. Amenities in the room were sparse. A kettle with instant coffee/tea, not a lot of storage but everything else made up for it. We would absolutely stay again. FYI, for those booking soon, there is a bit of road construction all over Oslo neighborhoods but it didn't bother us at all.

The room was crowded by the double bed and a bit unique being right off the stairwell, but I liked the high ceilings and the bathroom was a decent size. Having both breakfast and dinner included was a nice perk, and there were good selections available on the buffets for each. The hotel is in an older building in a neighborhood setting which is nice, and it's within walking distance of the Vigeland Park. While I was there, though, the street in front of the hotel was all torn up with some kind of road construction, and it was difficult for my taxi to get to the front door. The staff was very helpful and it was a pleasant stay.

The hotel is in a pleasant residential neighbourhood of small houses. I walked a lot but there is a tram stop nearby. I was in a single room, small but comfortable and not claustrophobic. Great breakfast, there is also an option of dinner and an afternoon \"Fika\". Also a drinks bar. The staff is always available and responds friendly to any question. A real pleasure for those who like a special and intimate hotel. Not cheap like all hotels in Oslo but very warmly recommended.

Great home hotel!

We had a fantastic stay here. The front facing large room with a balcony was a real great experience for us. The location is very convenient with the tram station for #13 right at the corner. Breakfast and dinner provided by the hotel were all excellent. They are cautious about gluten intolerance, so I had no difficulty eating their meals. Strongly recommend!!!

Beautiful mansion!

Hotel Gabelshus is a gorgeous property and unlike anywhere we have ever stayed. We felt like we were in a manor home from the 16th century. There is a library, a dining hall, and other nooks and crannies where you could curl up on a sofa or set of chairs and enjoy tea and read a book.
The interior of our room looked as if it were in a home decorating magazine. The wallpaper matched the pillows and the carpet. There was a small lounge area in the room where you could sit and socialize or just relax.
The price included breakfast, a coffee/sweet hour and dinner. The food and choices were good with several beverages offered, however, more than once the food wasn't hot. Especially at breakfast, twice I ate very cold Scrambled Eggs and Baked Beans. I know you make a big pot and it is hot when you bring it out to the serving line, but please put down a heat source so the food stays hot while it it out on the line to serve.
Location is good for public transportation with quick access to the tram.
Very, very small elevator so if you are elderly and use a walker, this might be difficult. Also, the toilet was in a very, very small corner of our bathroom so tricky to use. Again, a handicapped person could not have used our bathroom toilet, so tell the staff ahead of time if you need special accommodations.
We would recommend this hotel and will definitely stay here again if we return to Oslo.

Had to lug our bags ups an awkward round staircase and then duck under low beams, doorways and a massive beam in the middle of the room .wouldn't stay there again and it was also very expensive. Reception and breakfast were nice but room was a disaster.

Excellent hotel near the centre of Oslo. It’s in a quiet area but is walking distance to the centre and has public transport links via the nearby tram stop. The hotel itself is quiet and cozy with great amenities. Both breakfast and dinner were great with a good selection - dinner was more than a ‘light meal’ so ate there every night!

This property is absolutely beautiful in its classic charm. It is conveniently located to local transportation and harbor sites. The property offers 2 very good meals each day besides a hot beverage and sweet \"happy hour\".
The staff are all very friendly and on top of things.

The only beware I can offer is that a scented air freshener is piped into the common areas. For we with allergies to scents it eliminates the opportunity to use those common spaces. It is a quick walk through those rooms to the front door and the dining area where the air \"freshener\" stops.

Highly recommend this Clarion Hotel if staying in the Frogner area.. we were so glad to have stayed in Frogner when visiting Oslo because it was quiet, beautiful, but so convenient and perfectly easy to get into Oslo city center. It was walking distance to Frogner Park/Vigeland Park. The breakfast and dinner provided was absolutely delicious every day with extensive options for vegans/vegetarians/all eating needs. The property had great facilities like a gym and sauna too! We absolutely loved our stay here and would highly recommend to anyone visiting Oslo.

Pleasant stay. Disappointing vegetarian options.

This is a nice hotel, beautifully decorated with friendly, hardworking staff. The rooms were clean and comfortable and service was excellent. We had booked two superior rooms as travelling with our children. Unfortunately during our stay there was construction work in the road taking place diectly outside our windows so we were woken very early both days by bucket diggers and gravel being poured, so not as restful as we had hoped. However it looked short term so if you are not travelling in the near future this shouldn't be a problem. The ritual toiletries in the bathroom were lovely. The hotel is a little way from the centre but only a short walk to this nearest tram stop and a pleasant 15min walk to Aker Brygger in the evening. Our biggest disappointment was vegetarians are not well catered for. On arrival we were told that dinner choices for the evening were chicken or meatballs. I asked about the vegetarian food and was told there was salad. So I had salad leaves and cold pasta with pesto and bread. The second night was meat chilli but chicken had been mixed in with the pasta salad so we couldn't even eat that so we ended up eating out in Akker Brygger which was expensive. We were disappointed with this as there was a sign in the dining room suggesting all diets would be accommodated and we had made it known we were vegetarian.
Other than that, this is an attractive hotel, with nice staff just not for us due to the food options and perhaps the distance out of town.

Our room 324 was by a stairwell, we could hear a noise and investigated. The stairwell was acting as a speaker for the laundry

Gabelshus Clarion - superb.

Superb hotel. We stayed in the original building which had period features, but had evidence of modernisation (eg usb charging sockets).
It’s a way out of the city centre, but is a very short walk from the nearest tram stop, so getting around was easy.
The staff were well informed and offered plenty of tips and advice.
Breakfast had plenty of choice and was well stocked. The light evening meal offered more choice than expected and was more than enough to keep us going.
Would definitely recommend staying here.

Very nice looking hotel that is super close to a tram stop. There are restaurants and a couple convenience stores at the end of the block.
The hotel feeds us a lot. A very nice breakfast buffet plus a sweet treat in the afternoon and a pretty nice dinner are free every day. Coffee, hot chocolate and tea were available 24/7. Rooms are nice. Small but normal for Europe. Everything worked and there was little to no noise at all from outside. They have fans available too. I sleep best to fan noise and they can provide one.

Oslo is a very beautiful, walkable city. The hotel is not far from the waterfront, the Royal Palace, Vigeland Gardens or most museums. I liked that there was always hot coffee and tea, especially very early in the morning.

Gableshus is a lovely hotel that has undergone a facelift

Room was fine, like most Norwegian hotels the bed was a little soft for me but i got used to it.

The location is excellent short walks to the best indian in oslo , a destination reaturant, souli plas . National theatre is 15 mins walk (10 for me ) and the no 13 Trik (tram) is Round the corner

Itsa lovely quiet area minutes away from the centre of town

Only negative, breakfast can get busy, more so when its raining and the 30 or so outside seatscsnt be used.

They do also provide cake and coffee (Fika) at 3pm andan evening meal 6 to 8pm (we didn't try the evening meal)

In the few minutes it took us to check in, we got a parking ticket cus the car was on the street in front of the hotel. Then we were told the few parking spaces the hotel has are all full and its our responsibility to know theres no parking allowed on the street. Eventually one of the girls behind the desk went outside to help...the parking machine was around the corner and not in sight of the hotel! In other words, if you have a car, find a different hotel.

Very nice property and kind and helpful staff. However the wooden floor thresholds from one room to another ( dining area to reception) are slightly raised but no fluorescent tape or warning to watch your step. My friend took a hard fall when her sandal caught it. One cannot really see these and they are a tripping hazard. No safety bars or grab bars in bathroom for getting in and out of tub. Otherwise a very nice property.

We were appalled and laughing hysterically upon arriving to our room. Not only does the elevator not go up to the fifth floor, leaving us to haul our luggage up the stairs after a long train ride, but the rooms on the fifth floor feel as if they could have been left as an attic. My husband and I were on our honeymoon and did not find the room romantic at all. There was a beam running through the middle of it, causing us to bump our heads into it multiple times, and the bathroom was terribly small as well. The AC did not seem to work as well, making the room terribly hot and humid. We asked the front desk if they could put is into a different room and all they said was that they were completely booked and that they don't rent the fifth floor rooms out unless the hotel has no availability (we booked a month in advance). We DO NOT recommend this hotel, especially for couples on vacation.
As a positive, the dinner was okay and the breakfast was good. These are really the only redeeming qualities the place had to offer during our stay.

The property is well maintained and the staff were all wonderful. We loved that our stay included a free dinner which we definitely took advantage of. Our meal was delicious. The only thing I wasn't happy with and this really is a small thing because I'm American and used to having it, is that there is no air conditioning or fans in any of the rooms. The only way to cool the room off is to open the window. Everything else was great!

Lovely hotel in Frogner

I LOVED this hotel! The location, the building itself. Easy to get places on the tram or walking. Staff were friendly and helpful with directions or recommendations. My room was a small single, but there was room for everything. The bathroom was clean and contemporary with a rainlike shower and dimmable mirror light. I opted for breakfast and dinner and was completely satisfied with the food. Very good salad options at dinner. The coffee machine was a big place. Places to work or read, inside and out all the time. Weather was great while I was there, which is out of their control, but added to the experience. I stayed for 7 days.

With the location of the hotel being just outside of the city with such easy assess to both the tram and bus services, you didnt need to be any closer.
The hotel itself was not only clean and tidy, with good levels of restaurant services and the front of house staff were all incredibly helpful and polite which improved our experience.

Overall lovely stay at the property. Staff was great, and I was surprised to learn that both breakfast AND dinner were included in the price of my stay (I thought it was only breakfast). It's a generic buffet so nothing to write home about but it was very convenient to take a super fast 15 minute dinner in between some late meetings I needed to take in my hotel room. Very quiet location which is exactly what I needed. The hotel has construction going on some a number of amenities were closed to guests which was unfortunate. Very comfortable bed and generous desk working space. The shower would take 10 minutes to get hot water so plan accordingly (there is a note warning you in the bathroom). I also could never figure out the air conditioner (I tried every setting) so my room on ground level got too warm at times even though I had the drapes closed. Admittedly, I could have asked someone at the desk to help me with it but I never had \"free time\" to sort it out.

Okay historical hotel in the nicest area of Oslo. Near some of the best restaurants and a quick 10min walk to more central areas of the city. The hotel is in a quiet recidential area, however my room had a strange noise from inside the walls.

Breakfast is small for a Norwegian hotel, but sufficient. The breakfast area is has a sad «sterile» design and needs a total makeover.

The door locks were hideous and totally ruined the old doors. As an industy insider who spend 150 nights per year in hotels I also know they are the cheapest on the market and have been hacked multiple times in recent years.

The hotel serves an evening meal included with your accommodation, which is a nice touch.

Several of the public areas seemed to be closed off for private functions frequently, which means you may not be able to enjoy all areas during your stay.

Excellent, quiet hotel with wonderful breakfast buffet including everything you could think of as well as waffles or cakes in the mid afternoon and an evening meal all included in the room price. This is the main reason we decided to go there as the prices for food in Oslo are extortionate. We will be going here again if we’re ever in Oslo again. 5 mins from tram stop and walking distance to the main station and to the harbour and the sea.

I was really impressed with this hotel. It was situated in a lovely part of Oslo, fairly close to the railway station and very close to several foreign embassies. It had an excellent small restaurant nearby.

I did not try the hotel restaurant for dinner, but my breakfast was perfect. I only paid for a budget room but it had all I needed and it was clean, comfortable, quiet and had a pleasant outlook. I intend to return.

We were in Oslo during the July heat wave and our room was at the end of the top floor. The bathroom had a tub only, but a sloped ceiling over the bathtub made it impossible to stand when entering or exiting the tub. The soap dispenser was over the faucet making it impossible to sit during the bath. We were forced to kneel while bathing which was very awkward. There was a hand held shower attachment but the bathroom was not pleasant. Our room faced the afternoon sun so was extremely warm. Luckily there was a fan in the room or we would not have been able to sleep at all. The hotel must give these rooms to online bookers like us as there were lots of other guests but only 3rooms in use on this top floor. The positive aspects were the lovely breakfasts and evening meals included in the price. The staff was quite helpful also. The area was also on the tram line, quiet at night and within walking distance of Vigeland Park.

Minimalist Gem

The room was rather minimalist with hardwood floors, comfy bed and minuscule bath, but the unexpected complementary evening meal and breakfast buffet were both fabulous. The staff all spoke fluent English, were very helpful and attentive. A sort taxi ride to the Folk and Viking Ship Museums. Would recommend highly and hope to stay here again!

Ask for a room if the main house if you can - i was given a room in the extension which was not as nice as the room i stayed in on my last visit, and was lucky to be given a darling attic room on the 5th floor - great for me, maybe not so much if you're tall though!
Evening buffet and breakfast included is a lovely touch, although i've never taken advantage, but looks good! And a great online taxi booking service from reception.
Only negative, no irons, just an ironing room...
Otherwise great!
