Whole standard of the place was top class. Just a few minor points to note & could be improved - bedroom window could not be opened to let in fresh air & badly needed dusting. Not enough electrical sockets & could have been better positioned close to mirror for make up, hair etc. Other than that, it was a beautiful atmospheric and classy hotel and full of character.

This hotel & Spa is absolutely amazing, the staff were so attentive to our needs, I had booked this hotel for a treat for my family which they so enjoyed, the grounds are beautiful and the food is cooked from the best quality, yes, the spa is not huge when you compare this to other spa facilities but this gives this hotel spa the advantage of giving you space to enjoy the spa experience, would I travel to this hotel again, most definitely, worth every penny.

Really lovely hotel but catering is a bit hit/miss
The location is lovely, the outside of the building is lovely, our room was lovely, the gardens are lovely, the people are all lovely, the spa is lovely.
However …
We had three meals in the hotel; one evening meal; one breakfast; and, one lunch.
The service for the evening meal was quite poor, the food was not great (for the price), the service was extremely slow and quite poor (we asked for a glass of water six times and it didn’t arrive by the end of the meal). I think there was a problem in the kitchen. It would have been better if they had shut the restaurant and only served bar meals. Subsequently I was quite unwell. I had informed them I was gluten intolerant and I think one of the ingredients contained gluten. I was quite unwell the following day. We didn’t eat at the restaurant again.
We had a bar meal in the spa, which was fine.
We had breakfast on the last morning. When we arrived, there were no staff anywhere. A queue formed and eventually the guy at the front of the queue went into the kitchen to find someone. After that there were about eight staff serving. We could hear them chatting in the kitchen, so really needed some management.
It isn’t a very cheap hotel and we expected better.

Main problem, was the aircon, set at 19C, wont go down & also wont go up, room was hot when i arrived and never cooled down enough to enable me to sleep, specifically chose this hotel as it had aircon in the rooms, but wont stay again during summer.

The staff at Wood Hall are great. Very friendly, helpful, attentive & kind. Our room was comfortable, but not the best we've ever stayed in. Remember the mansion was built a long time ago, so renovations have to work within historic building protections. Whether breakfast or dinner, the dining experience is lovely.

We loved the quiet location , every member of staff we spoke to were fantastic & couldn’t do enough for us. Food fabulous. And the hotel even had laminated sheet for 3 different walks of different lengths around the property acreage.
My wife loved her treatment from the spa.
Only slight issue was around 2-4.30pm at busy times in spa there isn’t enough loungers or space & only place to sit is in spa reception.
Wasn’t a major issue as we redressed & went for a walk around area then came back & it was fine .

Stayed the night before we did the Emmerdale village tour. So great location for that! Fabulous hotel, impressed with the complimentary drink on arrival, nice touch! Also very friendly staff, lovely clean room, was nice to go into and it feel warm and cosy. Got there too late to enjoy facilities but all looked lovely. Fabulous breakfast, and nice touch with the breakfast bag when we left.

We stayed here for my birthday 4th - 6th April and we had such a wonderful time. We had a double room which was spacious clean, and came with a lovely a view over the Estate. The breakfast was wonderful with lots of choice. I especially liked leaf tea which you dont get everywhere. All of the staff provided us with fantastic service.
Little touches such as a hand signed welcome letter, a happy birthday note with a box of chocolates left for me on my birthday, and a bag with water and snacks for the journey home, all made our stay extra special.

From the glass of Prosecco on arrival to the leaving bag of goodies when departing the stay was truly wonderful. All the staff at the hotel were really warm, friendly and helpful and the quality of the room and the service at the hotel exceptional. The breakfast choice was extensive and the freshly made smoothies and perfectly cooked eggs Benedict really tasty.
We ate dinner in the lovely deco restaurant and decided to have the chefs tasting menu in which every dish was so tasty and delicious.
We drove into York (30 minutes) and enjoyed touring this historic city with its monuments, architecture and great shops. Parking at the hotel was never a problem and we used the spa and pool which were a real bonus.
I can’t recommend this hotel highly enough and we will be certainly be back.

Room (29) Excellent, great bed, view, bathroom and shower (twin sinks). Spa good, just one wet steam room but spotlessly clean. Pizza dinner in bar very good, Excellent G&T. Breakfast included and outstanding. Even given a snack bag with nibbles for journey home. No hesitation in recommending this excellent hotel. Well Done..

We had a lovely stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was a good size, lovely and warm and good lighting. The breakfasts were lovely and we had two bar meals whilst we stayed, both very nice and not overly expensive. We would definitely return to the hotel.

Stayed on 2 seperate nights in one week. Returned for 2nd night it was so good. Felt like we were minded like family. Left a bag behind and when i returmed next evening the receptionist offered me a cup of tea. I had driven a good distance and here was a person who could read how to treat and look after a guest in an empathetic way. Each and every staff member was polite and went over and above.

Beautiful quiet location yet accessible for A1 and other locations. Such a friendly and welcoming reception on arrival plus complimentary drink. Room was clean, spacious and very comfortable (bed ok but I find all hotel beds hard). Bathroom modern and clean. Dined in hotel restaurant and good was outstanding just be aware all has Asian influences. Breakfast was fabulous lots of menu choice or have it your own way plus all continental options. Dined in bar too where food was more simple but equally delicious. All staff we met were warm, friendly and exceptionally helpful. Also had a massage in spa which again was faultless. Walk suggestions available from reception. Couldn’t recommend more highly and we will definitely return. If only all hotels are like this!

We booked the hotel as a birthday treat for our daughter. She and her husband had a fabulous time, they had dinner at the hotel and used the spa. The hotel staff went out out of their way to make it a memorable stay. A special mention must go to Caroline who helped with the extras to make this stay special.

Beautiful building and grounds with fanatatic staff. We were disappointed with our room, it was in need of an upgrade. The carpet was dirty and stained and the bathroom needed a good scrub. Compared to others that we booked on this trip it was over priced.

Set in the open countryside the hotel has a fantastic vista. We stayed for just one night for a special celebration and we were made most welcome.
On arrival, we were pleasantly surprised to hear we had been given a bedroom upgrade free of charge. It was an amazing room. Whilst it was located in the 18th-century manor it was clean, beautifully decorated and had all the modern facilities. The room was spatial and the bed/chairs were very comfortable. The owners even provided a couple of books for us to read during our stay and were free to take away!

A beautiful historic property which was well maintained. The more recent additions which housed the spa blended in well. The immediate grounds were also immaculately maintained plus there were footpaths right outside the door with access to the scenic countryside.

Wood Hall and Spa Experience
Not all but some of the Waiting Staff were clearly inexperienced. The waiting time especially at breakfast was far too long. From ordering our breakfast there was a 30 minute wait for it to be delivered to the table. The toast and tea / coffee were delivered pretty much straight away but a 39 minute wait for the cooked breakfast was too long. This was the case for all three nights we stayed. The bar service was also extremely slow with the barman preparing drinks and delivering them to the restaurant in preference to customers waiting in the bar / lounge waiting to be served. We waited nearly 15 minutes to be served on our first evening and after a similar wait on the second evening gave up and retired to our room early. It’s a lovely hotel, the location is superb for a relaxing break. We can’t fault the chilled vibe of the place and as this was something we were looking for and once the staff are trained up I’m sure the service will match the ambience. The reception staff ( ladies ) were excellent and looked after us, especially moving us from a small dark room at the end of a long corridor to a more airy and more suitable room due to my anxiety issues with enclosed spaces. The spa treatments were good albeit small. Finally, on our arrival we took a sandwich lunch outside to take in the views. This was the first time I’ve ever had a Club Sandwich made with scrambled egg !. Not really suitable as it made the bread soggy and the sandwich fall apart. Might be worth changing it.

I visited here for 1 night on my way to a business destination. Despite booking quite early, I was offered a room in an outbuilding that backed onto the back of the kitchen and a noisy extractor fan. I asked to be moved and I was upgraded to a room at the top of the main building. The room/suite was lovely, however there were 3 enormous extractor fans on the wall at the side of the building and one was on during the night. In the evening, no-one behind the bar could make a martini! The evening meal was nice and the breakfast was superb!

Absolutely fantastic setting, with beautifully maintained grounds along a single track road with passing places . Room was spacious and well appointed. I wasn’t that keen on the grey decor, but that was my personal choice. I loved the badger do not disturb sign. I ate dinner in the restaurant. The food was delicious and the service good, but I wasn’t impressed at breakfast. The buffet was ok, but set in a small narrow corridor. The cooked breakfast good. Toast came without butter, there was none on the buffet. I tried to ask the staff. The first time the waiters said they would come back after doing something else, the second time I was just ignored. In the end I gave up and took some left overs from another table, not good, but it was my final experience of the place which up to then had been superb. In their defence, it was a busy morning.

I stayed here for one night on business a few months ago and loved it enough to share the experience with my wife on a 2-day break. The best thing about Wood Hall is the friendliness of the staff. Our favourite was Lizzie - lovely person, just what you need in a hotel. The location is great, we visited Fountains Abbey, Brimham Rocks and Harrogate, but there's so much more to see and do. The room was lovely and cozy and the huge bed was very comfy. They also have a small spa. Highly recommend it.
