The setting is beautiful and the staff amazing. We took our 2 Spaniels with us and stayed in a dog friendly suite. Room was huge and surprisingly warm considering it was a converted Castle. Breakfast in the morning was decent and you are within 25 mins of York. All in all a great trip and we will 100% stay here again.

There is, however, some room for improvement in the amenities, particularly given that the property is marketed as a luxury castle experience. Our room still had clothing from a previous guest, which affected the overall sense of cleanliness.
While the stay was not unpleasant, based on our previous experiences in luxury castle hotels, this felt closer to a standard hotel experience rather than a true luxury offering.

It was totally magical staying at the castle. The rooms were comfortable and spacious. It was marvelous exploring the castle and grounds. The road to get there is narrow and bumpy, but once you’re there it is worth it! We had a lovely breakfast in the little restaurant. The staff were so helpful and friendly. Stayed here recently and was really impressed. The hotel is in a great location – surprisingly quiet despite being just off the A64, with easy access to the A1(M), making it perfect for road trips or business travel.
The grounds are beautiful, well-maintained, and offer a peaceful setting to relax in. There’s also ample parking, which made everything so much easier.
All the staff were welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. A special shout-out to Alice and Jen in the restaurant – their service was absolutely fabulous! Friendly, attentive, and made the dining experience even more enjoyable.

The shower was mouldy. Staff while I stayed were helpful and polite. However, I had cause to telephone reception on the evening after I left. My calls were repeatedly answered and hung-up immediately without anyone speaking. On the last attempt the handset was simply left on the reception desk for me to listen to another customer complaining. After a few minutes the receptionist again hung up without speaking. Disgraceful way to treat a customer. No going back.

Country House treat
This hotel - or rather complex - is a real gem. Spa, quad biking, axe throwing, secret forest and forest amphitheatre. Fantastic variety of activities, and friendly, helpful staff who are very eager to ensure your stay is perfect. This included going the extra mile to ensure I was able to video conference despite the challenge that a building with thick stone walls presents for wifi. Rooms are superb with every possible amenity.

We had stayed here in the past and were looking forward to returning. We were given a nice room for our 2 night stay and I have to say the building and the history of the place is one of the reasons we returned.
However on this occasion we had a number of issues that I feel should be mentioned.
Firstly, although some of the older staff were excellent, there seems to be a disconnect between some of the younger staff as to what level service should be given in hotel of this quality. There were a lot of young people on duty and I assume they were receiving training which is of course fair enough. However this lack was also experienced in some of the older staff. For example the gentleman manning the bistro restaurant where we went for coffee on one of the days was very discourteous when we advised him we didn't want lunch, only coffee. He grabbed the menus back from us and walked away before we'd even finished ordering. When he returned I asked if we could have some biscuits, he grunted \"probably not but I'll take a look\". We never got biscuits or an explanation.
Our room was cleaned after the first night but when we returned to the room we found the bed had been made but looked like someone had been sleeping on it as it was so messy, we also found nasty brown \"smears\" on the clean towels. I took these to reception to complain but there was no manager available. I was told a manger would contact me before I left or by email afterwards, I never got a reply. Never heard anything

I recently stayed here, nestled in beautiful woodland surroundings. The location is lovely and offers easy access to the A64 and A1/M1, making it quite convenient for travelers. The hotel itself was very clean and tidy, and the check-in process was quick and hassle-free.
I had a meal in the main restaurant, where the food was delicious. A special mention goes to Jen, the waitress, who was exceptionally helpful and made the dining experience even more enjoyable. Overall, it was a pleasant stay, and I would highly recommend this hotel for its combination of comfort, convenience, and excellent service.

Good 2 night stay. Room wasn't serviced after 1st night, not sure why not, but no information provided about putting something on door to request servicing and nothing mentioned at check in. Room was large and comfortable. Large bathroom. Nice breakfast. Beautiful place. Nice pubs closeby for good (special shout out to The Crooked Billet). Did not try evening meal at hotel as it was too expensive for my business budget. Would stay again!

We expected our cups and refreshments to be changed/topped up daily but no maid visited the room, so we ran out of milk and teabags and had to drink from stained cups.
The breakfast was nicely cooked. There were also fresh croissants and small pastries, small packets of cereal, yogurts and fruit. Toast you had to do yourself. Tea or coffee were brought to you.
Our experience of the bar menu did not live up to our expectations but the staff were happy to compensate for this.
All in all a pleasant stay but a little more attention to detail would improve the experience.

We had a lovely room but access to the hotel for people with mobility issues would be an issue as there is a steep flight of steps to reception and to the rooms. Not ideal if bringing heavy cases. Decor is lovely but in terms of cleanliness our bath was not thoroughly cleaned as it was oily on the sides.

OMG to Good.
OMG to Sublime. Originally allocated Marigold Suite in Courtyard. Best description – student digs. Dreadful bed (2 lumpy singles thrown together and billed as a King), tatty, tired, no soap or shower gel, right by the bins (0700 awakening) and not even 2* let alone 4* accommodation. Next morning saw the Manager – Lys (sorry, hope spelling correct) - and she arranged a move to the main castle into the Hibiscus Room. Talk about a difference – wow. Okay, even this room could benefit from a chest of drawers and a few more coat hangers, but way, way, way better and raises this review from dreadful to really, really nice. In defence of the hotel, it seems that Marigold is being renovated in Feb 24 – but it needs it; in spades. Hibiscus – a totally different kettle of fish and if allocated that room, would be back in a heartbeat. Thanks for your brilliant assistance Lys. You made the stay!

Hazlewood Castle Hotel Very Disappointing
We have stayed at many hotels in the past the staff are very friendly at Hazlewood but things could be improved as the breakfast was a total let down it was self service and only lukewarm. No Yogurts No fruit but how can a Hotel run out of Milk. Tea Coffee brought to the table without milk the hotel must have run out on Sunday .Very poor management this should never happen we have never experienced this before and was a total let down.Also there is a 10% service charge for everything all food and drinks.For what the Hotel charges they need to greatly improve we will not even consider coming back again.

Very relaxing stay in quiet, beautiful surroundings, and you can sit out out in the gardens. Everything clean and well-maintained. All staff were very friendly and helpful. The only part which was not that good was the breakfast. Although there was much on offer, the food had been cooked some time before, kept hot, resulting in, for example, very dry bacon.

Beautiful castle, loved the grounds and library. Really enjoyed dinner in the restaurant. Staff were really friendly. There were quite a few bugs in the room when we arrived but we got rid of them so it wasn’t a problem after that. Toilet could have been more thoroughly cleaned. Overall we both had a good nights sleep in the comfy bed. Perfect for one night.

Service charge in the bar is a bit of a con as the barman never came to us we had to approach him every time! But this is being a little picky on what was an otherwise perfect stay. The Castle and it’s grounds are something that other hotels simply cannot match. That’s where it’s excellence ends. The room was tiny, the Wi-Fi did not function, the bed was very badly made with non of the sheets tucked in on the sides, the mattress was poor and soft, the inability of the hotel to offer a few minutes over without demanding £10 an hour make is all rather disappointing.

The hotel is excellent and this was our second visit. The staff are very friendly and efficient. The housekeeping staff are fantastic; all of our toiletries, water and snacks were replenished on a daily basis. The grounds are beautiful and our children particularly enjoyed watching the peacocks. Breakfast was very good but not consistent; fresh fruit was not always available. The service at dinner was extremely slow. There are also no vegetarian options for evening dining. The bedrooms are very large but in need of a revamp.

We had a suite in the old castle courtyard. Staff were attentive and lovely, food was nice. Beds were firm. Set in beautiful woodland grounds which you can wander round. Overall, a lovely night away.

Excellent hotel. This renovated castle is full of character in a quiet area. The room was spacious and comfortable. The breakfast did not have too much of a choice but what was available was of high quality and satisfied me. I never ate in restaurant but did dine in the bar, again the choice was not too big but the quality was excellent. The staff were polite and attentive. I highly recommend this hotel for a relaxing time.

Lovely historic building and location. Unfortunately the hotel rooms (standard double) whilst clean and in order, are out of date (late 90’s) and could benefit from a redesign & refurbishment. The restaurant evening meal is a little overpriced for the quality of the dishes. £25 for a grilled Tuna steak would be justified if it was not a supermarket bought in product. The potatoes and beg were adequately cooked. The recent repointing in the restaurant should not have been approved, as it is not in keeping with the original stone work. The waiting service could also be a little sharper/attentive. Communal areas were lovely. We only stayed 1 night on route to Scotland, so for us the hotel was a good overnight stopover.

It is a lovely hotel but just lacking in a few areas. I think mostly due to been under staffed. The food was lovely but they had ran out of some things on our 2nd night. The rooms were very hot and it would have been nice for them to offer fans. We had no hot water Tues morning and Tues night. Breakfast was nice but would be better to be cooked fresh rather than a buffet style. Lovely surroundings and lovely for weddings, well kept gardens/woodland and hotel is dog friendly. On the whole it was ok but we expected better for the money.

Location was beautiful. Both the surrounding grounds and interior of the hotel was stunning. Location was a bit tricky to get to. If coming late at night, pay close attention to the turns. Signage leading up to the hotel is difficult to see and google / GPS takes you down a goat road if you are not careful.

One night after a wedding
We stayed one night following a family wedding reception held at the hotel. It's a brilliant wedding venue. Our room was pretty standard fare for hotel rooms. The bed was comfortable and all was clean. Breakfast was good. The only substandard thing was the rather weak shower

The room was looking tired, there was cracked tiles in the bathroom, wallpaper coming away from the wall and the mattress as one of the worst I have ever slept on, it had no support and had a massive sag on both sides. When I checked out I couldn't get an invoice and was told it would be emailed later that day, it wasn't and I had to chase them to send it onto me.

A dated Hotel.. I stayed over the courtyard… poor wifi throughout my stay in my room, I had to spend hours over in the main building to get work done. I was told when I complained that this is pointed out in very small text only when you have booked, downloaded their App and searched through it. The room was in a poor state of repair, the main door lock just didn’t work at all well. The bathroom needed items repaired and replaced with broken tile and toilet seat. The staff just didn’t seem bothered, I asked for a taxi one night to Weatherby, which never turned up even though the staff repeatedly said they had booked it.. they didn’t even know which part of the site the taxi would turn up to. It nearly ruined a very important meeting that I had to drive to instead. Maybe I was not their ideal customer, someone staying on business.. but I would certainly never go back.

Enjoyable family stay
We had an enjoyable two night stay at Hazlewood Castle. As a family of four we stayed in the Daisy Room which was very comfortable, the two children had the option of sharing a double sofa bed or one using the single bed in the main bedroom. We stayed during Storm Franklin so we arrived during a rainstorm and there was extremely wild and windy weather outside on the first night. The children commented that arriving at a haunted castle in a storm was like the beginning of a Scooby Doo adventure! Excellent food and friendly service in the Vavasour Restaurant, the children’s menu being particularly good value. We also enjoyed a fine lunch in the lounge. We took the opportunity to go on a tour of the castle which was accompanied by a very informative talk from Steve, well worth doing if you have time. Our only criticisms were minor attention to detail points on the room, there were four of us but only two tea cups, more were supplied on request. For some reason there was no waste bin in the room, just the one in the bathroom, so nowhere to put used teabags and empty coffee packets etc. We did mention this to cleaning staff but still no bin arrived. Minor quibbles though in an otherwise enjoyable and memorable half term break.

The Castle and surroundings are beautiful, the staff were friendly and helpful and the bed was comfortable. The big negatives for me started with the lunch sandwich, they charge £8 and served me a very cheap looking sandwich with a handful of crisps, the bread was really budget, if you’re going to charge £8 for a sandwich you should use a decent thick cut bread with a healthy portion of crisps. The other big negative was the shower had no hot water and the toilet didn’t flush, a shame because it’s a beautiful venue they just need to give the rooms a face lift/maintenance check and improve their lunch menu substantially.

We had a wonderful time, I took my husband as a surprise for his birthday. We stayed in the accommodation outside of the hotel, i was disappointed with this because I paid to stay in the Castle. I wish it said in the description that this wouldn’t be the case. When we arrived my husband who is disabled had to climb the stairs to the hotel, only to be told we weren’t in the hotel and we carried all our bags up for check in.
When we got into our room they were nice enough but there was no cups, I therefore called reception for a cup and there was no answer, I went back to the hotel to ask for a cup and was given glasses and had to explain that I wanted a cup of tea and the receptionist then said oh you mean a mug, I was confused by this because a cup is not a glass.
We had a meal in the restaurant and it was wonderful and so was breakfast.

I have stayed twice, once pre pandemic on business. The room was OK but not worth the money, they had hardly any staff front of house, took 20mins to get a drink.
Second visit was for a wedding, wedding was great. We stayed two nights in their Master Suite - so I assume one of the best rooms. Problems started with booking. No one answers the phone, leave a message, they don't call back. Thier web site does not allow you to put 2 guests into a bedroom, when you call and finally get through, price increases for 2 people.
The suite was large, two separate rooms. Bed was very hard. Furniture old but OK. The bathroom was horrendous, it smelt of drains, the wall paper was peeling and had mould under it, there was a hole in the floor next to the bath that collected water, the bath was on a slope, the toilet flushed OK to urinate, anything more it took 4 flushes. The shower was iffy the first day but worked, the second it didn't work so we could not shower.
Breakfast on the second day, given the hotel was busy after the wedding the day before was a disaster. They ran out of food and there were not enough tables, it took 25 mins to replenish the food. The quality of the breakfast is poor, the sausages nearly eatable.
I met the manager and told him the issues and said I was not looking for refunds, just a recognition that they would do something as the bathroom issues are not acceptable to future guests. He was fine and listened then his colleague wrote the next day offering us a f

Lovely character to the building. Good standard of rooms but, a little outdated. Food was nice but, overpriced. Hotel internet wasn't working on checkout, so they asked for card details and security codes. I was not particularly happy about giving details out like that to strangers, even if they were staff.

The hotel and grounds its self was beautiful and the food was amazing. The bed was so uncomfortable both me and my partner woke up with bad backs. The rooms heating wouldnt switch off and we had to use our phone data for the tv because the internet wouldnt work. The drink and food where both expensive but the food was worth it.

I booked our stay between 9 and 10pm so when we arrived at 10.40pm I was forgiving that the venue weren't expecting us. The night porter was very pleasant but poorly trained, he didn't know how to confirm our booking and no one was answering his calls to help. I used the toilet near reception and noticed how dusty the surrounding were and the mirror had a lot of streaks on it. We booked into our room 'pelargonium' and the bathroom looked very tired, there was damp staining on the wallpaper, the sink was cracked and the bath looked uninviting with patches of mildew in the corners.
At 2.30am the fire alarm went off and the poor night porter seemed unprepared, eventually he apologised that it was a false alarm. When we woke in the morning there were a lot of little bugs crawling over the dressing table which was rather disturbing.
Breakfast was very nice with table service and friendly staff.
No one apologised for the false fire alarm and only when I enquired was I told it was a fault with the heat detector in the laundry room, no apology.
