It's not necessarily a family friendly hotel. We paid a lot for our rooms and we had trouble in one with different things but wasn't fixed after asking. We may have missed the advertisement but we took this hotel for the pool yet the kids only had 1 hour block when they could swim and it was at the weirdest non kid friendly times.

We booked into a junior suite. The room was lovely and very spacious. However, the room was very cold, despite there being a plug in radiator. Bathroom was freezing. The two double beds, were small for my husband and I, and the pillows were hard. Not the best nights sleep. Tried to order room service. The cheese board, no answer, when room service finally rang back at 9.35pm, no cheese and biscuits available. As they only serve until 9.30pm. The breakfast was amazing though.

Refurbishment has improved the Hotel. Unfortunately our room was not one of the chosen ones, but it was spacious- although it was by the tram line which was noisy all night long. The staff were very good, despite poor email communication- Hotels dot com did not pass on our email requests for restaurant reservations, but luckily we managed to book a table. We would come back but would check the room positioning first.

It felt great to walk into one of Manchesters most iconic, grand hotels. It felt warm and welcoming on arrival. It is clear it has undergone a recent renovation whilst paying homage to its history. On arrival I was told that the spa and pool were out of service. This was the main reason I had booked this hotel over other options in the area.

Room had no heating/aircon, instead a small standalone electric radiator and standalone aircon unit were in the bedroom. The aircon unit was fitted to a permanently open window which led to a night of horrendous noise and taxi horns from the venue and drunken crowds opposite until 3am. When I complained in the morning, staff seemed to be aware but still happy to put us there knowing this would happen. Hotel did not offer part or full refund but did say they might give free upgrade next time - doubt we’ll be back!

The hotel and room were both great, the only let down was the bathroom. To put it simply, my bathroom at home was cleaner than the one in the hotel. The shower door was mouldy at the bottom and the bathroom generally needed a face lift.

Never got there. Significant disruption on trains due to power outage at Stafford. Train operators advising not to travel. Rang hotel to see what options, cancellation, rearrange date, part refund, etc , Response? Nothing to with them as booked through third party, ie Hotels.com. Reached out to Hotels.com, who to be fair were exceptionally empathetic and tried to arrange a refund from the hotel. Hotel, who previously stated that nothing to do with them, refused. I appreciate the argument that it was not the hotels fault. It wasn’t. I appreciate they have overheads and staff to pay. But if this is what their customer service is like, may have been fortuitous that we did not stay. Ironically, automatic ‘please review your stay’ emails dropping in regularly. For me, service is judged on response when things don’t go right. In this instance, the response from the hotel was poor.

Great hotel, I’ve stayed here many times. The bed was a little small on this occasion. There was a coffee machine, which I appreciate. My girlfriend thought the room was dusty (in the wardrobe) and the sink slightly blocked. She also needed an adaptor, which they couldn’t lend her, only sell. Breakfast was fine but could have been better, the vegetarian sausages in particular were terrible - like something from the 80s. I stay at 40-50 hotels a year and checkout at 11am is unacceptable (although they gave us an extra 30 minutes). The Manchester city tax is annoying. One of Manchester’s oldest hotels, a good sense of occasion, but room for improvement.
