Good value for money, in the very centre of Wakefield. Reception staff polite, friendly and very helpful - thank you :)
I was given a large room on the 5th floor as I had asked for a quiet room. Very spacious - had a fridge, and bathroom had a large shower cubicle.
However, bed was very soft (too soft) and room and bathroom seemed tired and dated. Clean enough but could have done with a good ‘fettle’ and refresh. Bathroom door was peeling and shower tray was cracked. No handwash in container next to hand basin and no sanitary disposal bags.
Breakfast included - reasonable selection, but it was busy and some hot items ran out and took a while to be replaced. Serving staff polite and as helpful as they could be.
All that said, I would still stay here again if I come back to Wakefield.

The room was spacious and clean and the bathroom was spotless and airy and very clean. Even got a toothbrush and toothpaste from reception as I'd forgotten mine absolutely free! The bed was so uncomfortable, my girlfriend ended up in the middle of the bed and kept slipping down due to what we believe was a worn out matress. Her back and shoulder are still suffering due to the bed and we even tried to turn the matress half waybthrough the night but thos did nothing. We notified staff in reception and hope they heeded our advice to change the matress.
The other problem became aparent at breakfast time. We were told breakfast was up until 11am we came down at 10 am we were left with only toast , a tiny amount of scrambled egg and half a tomato each. When we asked for more to be bought out we were told bybstaff that breakfast finishes at 11 and no more food would be bought out due tonthe time. This should have been made clear that there was a shut of time for fresh food being bought out. So after another 6 people came down for breakfast and were met with the same situation a few things were cooked and bought out but not everthing we wanted was available which ruined breakfas, especially as it was all bought out in bits and pieces so never ate things together like a proper breakfast.
We will not be returning .

First it was very hard to find , don’t go off the pictures as the hotel and rooms are nothing like them , the hotel reception staff are very polite and welcoming I do feel for them , the building is old and not very clean there is a charge of £7 for overnight parking, the room I was on the top floor was big enough cleaned but could have been cleaner still bits and bobs on the carpet, kettle had water in it as did the iron , bathroom was clean plenty of towels all clean .bed very soft but you can exchange for a hard mattress, breakfast was bad not a lot of choice mostly cold and the toaster kept on having to be turned off as it was setting fire to the bread . One night stay for the money I paid was ok I suppose.

These stayed in the entrance, lift, stairwell and corridor.
The carpark was fine but additional £7 per day
The lift was very dirty, looked like someone had pulled in it and badly cleaned. Someone had spat on the wall inside which was so they 36hrs later

Room and bathroom were clean but settee broken and unusable, bed wasn’t very comfortable even with mattress cover you could feel where previous people had indented. Staff were friendly, but at breakfast if a table wasn’t occupied it was filled with plates, most food was empty and coffee choices reduced (machine broken) not enough staff to clean, replenish etc, it basically felt they hadn’t planned for number of guests.

Stayed for one night.
Car park was full so used the multi-storey nearby which didn’t offer overnight parking only full day.
Bedroom curtains didn’t shut properly which allowed a lot of light in from 5am.
The floor of nearby rooms creak very loudly which was annoying early in the morning as others were getting up.
Bathroom was dirty, no plug in the plug hole & it didn’t drain properly.
No hot water after 10 mins of running the shower.

All I need from a one night stay is a quiet/dark room & a shower in the morning. Didn’t get either!

Housekeeping gripes

There were a number of housekeeping gripes. Reception handled them all well and notified the appropriate people.
Settee not clean enough to sit on. Shower needs deep clean. Shower door does not close fully so water on bathroom floor. Bathroom shaver socket not working. Facilities in room were fine and we had an ok stay.

This is a very run down hotel. Furnishings get shabby over time which is understandable - but there’s no excuse for poor cleaning. Others have made the same comments on various review sites, but it seems management haven’t listened. The bed had no mattress protector and a thin sheet not even big enough to cover the bed so the mattress was exposed at the sides. There was sticky gunge on the bedside table, grime around the shower door, and a completely unscrewed hinge on the window which had been bodged up with a piece of wood.

The staff were very accommodating but the room was really tired and unclean. There was a lipstick mark in the net curtains, dirty mug in the tea / coffee offering and a couple of long hairs languishing in the shower. The foyer for the lift on my floor (6th) had a dented radiator and a huge dent in the gypsum wall adjacent. This made everything look even more dishevelled. NOT acceptable

Good central position although limited parking.

Hotel location good , comfort ok too but very disappointed to be told no cooked breakfast as per was advertised free with stay, it would have been handy to be informed prior to turning up as I had already looked at the campanile who offered room £41 and cooked breakfast for two £18 plus free parking so making the stay cheaper for us . The breakfast we had was just cereal, toast and croissants so not a continental making the cost of stay NOT value for mkney

Rethink parking

Good stay but parking can make a bit more sense. When I triedto extend my parking at reception I was told I should have come down to do so at the exact time the previous 24hours elapsed. Does that make any sense that I should interupt my sleep and come down at 4.30am to extend my parking and not at 9am when I came down for breakfast

Cheap and cheerful, the bed was ridiculously soft and the extractor fan in the bathroom didn’t work. Room was initially set up for 1 person (1 towel, glass, milk etc) and reception staff wouldn’t accept this to begin with, however we returned from a night out to find a mountain of towels and a dairy farm’s worth of milk. Good breakfast and cheerful staff. Would stay again.

Mixed bag!

Mixed bag - friendly welcome but the double room booked was not available and we ended up with a twin. The room was ok but the carpet needed a good clean and vacuum, as did the hallways, also the lift was dirty. I like a holiday inn express because of the inclusive breakfast, this was available 6.30 - 9.30 but when we arrived at 8.30 there was limited availability. Car parking good but arrive early as limited spaces, location of the hotel very good.
