Family owned small hotel in good location. Wonderful hosts. Not everybody spoke English, but they always tried to be helpful. The hotel is basic, but very clean. The 3 bed room is very small, but we managed to use the space efficiently. Good breakfast with a small variety of hot and cold options, in a very small room. You can walk to many attractions and many restaurants. The few restaurants and souvenir shops not far down the street make area overcrowded many times. You can also hear the music from advertising at the nearby theatre till late night, but it didn't bother us much as the windows offer very good noise muffling. Anyway, very close proximity is really quiet, we were happy to not see crowds in front of the hotel entrance.

Good, reliable budget accommodation option

Coincidentally, I had stayed at this hotel a few years ago. Updates since then have improved the property. I stayed in a single room, which was compact but sufficient. There was a small desk area where I could do some work on my laptop. Other than that, there was a single bed, a small night table with bedside light, an open closet, and a space where I could put my small amount of luggage. The WC had a shower. In-room amenities are minimal--a small bar of soap, in-shower combination body wash/shampoo, and a water glass. Prices for the room include an extended Continental breakfast, with Portuguese standards as well as scrambled eggs, sausages, and a vegetarian pasta dish. The hotel is well-located, very close to Rossio station/Restauradores square, making it easy to walk to many sites. The hotel itself is quiet, but sound-proofing can be an issue. For a few nights, there were three very boisterous guests staying in an adjoining room and I was glad that I thought to throw a pair of ear plugs in when I packed. This is a common problem in older hotels, though. The biggest plus is the family that owns the hotels--they work on-site and are very hospitable, helpful, and--in the case of one of the sons in particular--happy to chat about the city and provide some great restaurant recommendations.

Location and best customer service.

Great location, the hotel is small but has a good size room and excellent bathroom. Breakfast was included in our room rate and it's a fair breakfast with scramble eggs, pasta, assorted breads, yogurt and cheeses. Juice, tea and great coffe . Everyday is the same so w skip every other day. It's family owned and everyone goes out of their way to assist you. We will definitely stay here the next time we visit Lisbon. Highly recommended!

good hotel in a good location

The hotel had a very lovely reception area, very clean and modern. The rooms are also a good size with a comfortable bed and a decent sized bathroom. The bath was just a little dated. Staff are all very nice, although during breakfast it was a little uncomfortable due to one member of staff staring in our direction when getting breakfast. Other than that, good location and a lovely stay.

The owners/operators of Hotel Portuense were incredibly helpful when my travel companion had a medical emergency which required a visit to the hospital. They called a taxi for us, giving the driver instructions, stored our bags (it was our checkout day), and helped us book another hotel room down the street when we needed to stay an extra night in Lisbon. We won't forget their kindness and generosity.

The rooms were clean and well appointed, the breakfast included a variety of tasty options, and the location can't be beat. I'd stay there again if I returned to Lisbon.

8 nights in Portuense Hotel Lisbon

last month in July I stayed at this hotel for 8 nights. I was truly satisfied with my stay. The location of this hotel is excellent being just one street parallel to the main street of the centre. You are simply in the centre of the city with Rossio and Restaurado metros and there is also the railway station making travelling very easy. The hotel was very clean, the breakfast was very good and freshly prepared every morning. The staff was very helpful and full of information. They even helped me make printout of certain tickets which I had on my email. If I had to visit Lisbon I will surely go back to this Hotel Portuense

The location was fantastic. Easy to reach - blue line metro is 2 blocks away - plethora of restaurants nearby - wifi was great -
Saddiq and Hussein were very pleasant and very helpful with directions, trains trams etc. as were their staff. I would happily stay again if I head to Lisbon -
would have been nice to have a kettle for tea and coffee - but stay was excellent -

Nice hotel in a very central location.
Surprised to see a lot of construction work opposite and next to hotel. But this stopped in the early evening and didn’t start back up until late morning.
However in the evenings we could hear people walking up and down the stairs. So it was a restless nights.
The staff were nice and the breakfast was good.

We just returned from our 3 fun days at Lisbon, Portugal
This hotel is a perfect location right in the heart of the city Center. All walkable neighbourhoods and touristy spots.
The hotel staff is very welcoming and will provide you with tons of ideas if you want.
The hotel is kept super clean and the rooms are also kept very tidy. The AC worked pretty well as well and the mattresses are super comfy.
The breakfast is way beyond for what a two star hotel can provide. There was an option of hot scrambled egg, mixed veges and sausages. 3 different kinds of bread....fruit...cereal....coffee...tea...cookies and couple more desserts.
Go ahead and book this place without any doubts.

A very nice family runs the hotel. Mr. Sadik and Mr. Houssein are very helpful and will guide you throughout your stay. They will give you expert advices on where to go and what to avoid.
The hotel location is perfect, in the touristic area near Rossio station.
The hotel is clean and provides you great hospitality. Rooms are cleaned every day.
The reception staffs are also very helpful and extremely friendly.
Overall the experience was awesome. I want to thank you so much for this unforgettable experience.

the location of the hotel is great and the staff really pleasant and helpful. Downside to our visit were issues with noise. An old building with wooden floors that did nothing to reduce the noise but with building works opposite and next door it did spoil the experience.

The hotel is a family run business. Both sons who work the front desk speak perfect English. They were very helpful in giving directions and restaurant suggestions. The place is very basic, no decor but offers all that you need. The breakfast included is basic but good. The beds are a little too firm but clean. If no frills but good value is what you are looking for, this property meets the needs.

Front desk staff are very friendly and helpful and responded positively to feedback.

Two of us stayed in a triple room which was very basic but clean and functional.

Criticisms: Only one electrical socket for a bedside light. Reception loaned us an extension cord so we could plug in appliances etc to charge. Bizarre bathroom design has positioned the toilet pedestal partly under the large washbasin which presents unique difficulties getting on and off the loo. Showerhead was poor and produced a stream of water rather than a spray.

Positives: Aircon worked really well. Shutters and curtains effective in darkening the room and muffling external noise. Breakfast was basic (breads, jams, some cheese) but perfectly satisfactory. Location is ideal for Rossio and Figueira and Restauradores and the hotel street is lined with restaurants. Front desk staff friendly and accommodating. Wifi worked really well.

8 square meters single bed room seemed tiny to me. But that's ok. Just be ready. Very very small spaces. Really bad: the acoustic is superb - you hear every single breath of your neighbors and behind the door. The bed's mattress was SUPER hard and cheap. Not exaggerating. You sleep like on a wood board. Tiny TV right in the corner under the ceiling. I mean it - right under the ceiling - so twist your neck and roll your eyes up. In front of the TV is a bright light bulb. Very uncomfortable towel hanger in the washroom. Nowhere to hang the towel next to the sink. The only outlet to charge your phone is in the washroom. People at reception were nice except one night guy.

Really good location and friendly staff. Close to the metro and you don't have to lug your luggage up any hills. Breakfast was very basic (toast, bun, croissant, hard boiled egg, cheese, fruit, coffee, juice, water, tea and I believe hot choco. Shower was a little annoying because the hotter the water was the better the pressure. Walls are paper thin and other guests talk with outdoor voices. My bed was a bit firmer than I would have like. Overall I would probably stay there again.

It is a family run hotel and although fairly basic it is good value for money with all ensuite rooms, plus our room had a balcony and adequate continental breakfasts. Travelled for work + leisure with my wife. stayed for 5 days. Hotel was full ,had clean room, very friendly owner and staff. They were very caring. Unfortunately i had booked a three seater (three single beds), but they were willing to change to a double bed room as soon as it was available. We didn't change though.
The TV was too small and put way on top of the cupboard for our room, didn't have much time to watch it though.
The breakfast was pretty basic but on time. fresh brewed Coffee vending machine was available 24*7 as expected in this coffee crazy city.
Really happy that we stayed here and would definitely recommend it.

The hotel is centrally located. Residential Portuense is a family-owned business and they couldn't have been nicer. The desk is always staffed and the family are always looking to help. The residences are in the process of being updated (no noise, but you'll see the difference between the lobby and the room although ours did have an updated bathroom). Currently, there is no wifi but the a/c was excellent. If you are looking to stay in a central location in Lisbon for a fair price and aren't worried about having a posh room then I'd highly recommend. If you travel in order to see and stay in swanky hotel rooms then this location is probably not for you.

The hotel has a great location. Very close to Plaza Callao in the very center of Madrid. The reception staff was a bit rude when we checked in and through tour stay. they did not make us feel welcome. The halls and elevators were really hot to the point of uncomfortable. Excellent family run hotel. My third stay at the hotel since September 2014 (in 11 months). Fantastic value, considering the location of the hotel - right in the centre of the vibrant and exciting Baixa district, only a short walk from the old town and other main tourist attractions. Staff are absolutely fantastic - willingly provide help, advice with all of my queries. Room is very clean and modern with ensuite shower. Brilliant modern and quiet aircon. Qiet street outside - there was no noise at night. I will stay here again in the future without hesitation. Honestly it is (for me personally) located in the best part of lisbon. Enjoy!

I and my wife stayed in Residencial Portuese for 4 nights during a city break in Lisbon. The location is brilliant in terms of sightseeing/access to transportation/restaurants etc and the staff were really friendly and helpful. While the accommodation itself is basic, our room was clean and functional and breakfast was satisfactory. The real advantage of this small hotel is without doubt it's superb location just behind Avenida De Liberdade in the hear of Lisbon. Worth a visit on a short city break!

Great location and value for money

Overall the hotel was great vaue for the £25 a night I paid, but if you wanted a little comfort, pay more and stay somewhere else. Great central location and close to a metro station, plus reception is open 24 hrs. Expedia mentioned the hotel was undergoing refurbishments but only when I got there I found out that meant no heating. Thankfully lisbon in February is not too cold. The room was very clean, bathroom was cramped into a small space but bearable as everything worked. The wooden floors through the hotel mean you get woken up all night as other guests come back so take earplugs unless you want no sleep. Website also mentioned there were toiletries which was not the case and breakfast was some slices of bread with jam and croissants, and not even 'continental'. All in all, good value if you want a cheap stay but don't expect too much more than a clean bed in a central location.

Room was everything you need including a desk which with a bad back I consider a luxury I particularly enjoy. No problems with internet. Large bathroom. Large wardrobe and other storage so I could unpack properly and settle in for the four nights I stayed. Staff helpful and friendly with good English. Location is superb. Long line of restraunts starting almost at your doorway all the way down to the port, which is only a slow 10 mins walk. Another short walk and you are into Barrio Alto or the otherside and up to the castle. Dated decor but price was good and well maintained. Unless you are looking for a lot from your accomodation then this place is excellent. Not just for dump gear and get out. You can relax in it after exhausting yourself wandering and enjoying Lisboa.

Exactly what I hoped for.

This is a basic hotel--no frills, but a lot of value for the price. It is the best budget lodging in Lisbon. It is safe, clean, tidy, professionally and efficiently run, and family owned and operated. Internet access is available only on the ground floor (small lobby and dining room), but that allows for a little interaction among fellow travelers. The two brothers who take turns attending the front desk speak excellent English and are very helpful if asked for advice on what to do and see. The breakfast is continental. I am not a breakfast eater, so it mattered not to me. There is a very small tv in each room, but if you are in Lisbon to watch t.v. you might want to rethink you priorities. The place is exactly as described on the various travel sites, so I knew exactly what I was getting and it met my expectations and needs completely. As a woman traveling alone, security was important and I felt very comfortable knowing that the desk manager was only allowing in those who had booked rooms there. It is on a fairly quiet stretch of street very close to the downtown tourist action. I would definitely stay here again.

The location was easy to find. The staff at the desk was very helpful. The hotel is clean and well run. The twin beds were really a pair of very small singles,understandable to fit in the the very small room but when you are sitting at the top of the tourist strip with great restaurants and shopping a step away the Portuense gives great value for the price.if you are planning on languishing is a palatial hotel and never go outside this is not the hotel for you. If you planning on taking in the sites then it is a great jump off point.

Location was OK and the reception staff were alright, however the room I stayed needs a serious overhaul with old beds,creaky floorboards and there should be more focus on the cleanliness of the bathroom area.Actually it looked better on the photos than it is in reality. Breakfast was a disappointment as well.

Excelent location though area a bit rundown. Room sparten but spotless. Breakfast simple but all that is required. Very suitable for short stays so long as you don't require anything but a safe and comfortable room for the night.

Awesome location; clean, basic room

The location of this hotel is amazing. We walked to most of the sights around the old town. It's close to restaurants, shops and the metro/train station which was really convenient. The staff was very nice, especially the young guy at the reception (I don't know his name). Otherwise, the rooms were basic. The bed was very hard, but I still slept okay. It was clean. The room is on the small side with an old TV, but we weren't in Lisbon to stay in the room, so that was okay. I didn't even have time to turn on the TV anyway. Breakfast was really basic - just bread and some spreads. Coffee was tasty. Wi-fi was free but only available in the lobby which was okay, but not really convenient. Overall, I would recommend this hotel for budget travelers that are in Lisbon to see the city and not stay in the hotel all day. I was happy with our choice.

Great hotel for getaway ideally located

Fantastic service, very clean rooms in a fantastic location, basic breakfast however staff were very helpful. Door locks a little tricky but all in a fantastic stay, close to many restaurants and ideal for traveling around Lisbon. Thank you.

Central Lisbon Hotel

Nice little budget hotel superbly situated. Small rooms but very neat and tidy and lots of help from the reception, if needed. A little bit noisy, at times, but we would stay again. Beware of some of the restaurants nearby, they overcharge for everything but we found a lovely Portuguese restaurant, on Google, a couple of streets away.

Great location at a brilliant price

Accommodation is basic, but spotlessly clean. The hotel is inexpensive, and the service was excellent. Reception staff could not have been better. They were friendly, informative and helpful. It wasn't the quietest hotel I have ever stayed in, but I would definitely stay there again.

Central and good quality

Good quality budget hotel in superb central location. If you require luxury then probably spend more and go somewhere else, but excellent for those seeking basic/functional and central accommodation.

Great location/price. The hotel staff was excellent. The big problem was the beds were very uncomfortable, hard and lumpy. I was unable to sleep on them. The continental breakfast was bread, coffee, juice and that was it.i went for price and location and that was just what I got.

No frills yet pleasant

I was happy with my two nights stay in this hotel. It is centrally located, close to metro. The staff was very friendly and helpful. And they speak good English!

Having said that, there would be more convenient if there is WIFI in the room instead of only in the reception area and breakfast room.Of course, you don't expect a good size room as in North America. And you'd better to bring all your own toiletry,pretty much.

Highly recommended

Room was nice albeit on the small side. The only downside I can think if is that the rom had one outlet only, and found in the bathroom to boot. Bed was firm but would appreciate more pillows. The bathroom however was one of the most spacious we've had this entire trip. Both has a balcony which I find quite nice although the view is nothing great. Note though that not all rooms have as big a bathroom. Our companions' had regular size bath without a balcony. Breakfast, served buffet style, had very little choices. Three kinds of bread, butter, jam and a cheese spread. They had coffee, tea and orange juice. The best thing about the hostel us the owners and staff. Hossein and his brother were so very helpful in pointing us to great eats. All their recommendation were excellent, 2 were great finds local frequent.
