The property was in a perfectly located for us! It was a short walk from the Arsenale vaporetto stop and only a bit further to Piazza San Marco. Located away from the crowds, we were able to enjoy great restaurants and the fantastic views of the water easily. The room was lovely with a comfortable bed. There were no outlets near the bed, and as I sleep with a cpap, the staff were very accommodating when we asked to borrow an extension cord. Only downside was that the shower in our room was very small and the toilet was literally right up against the wall. However, we would definitely stay there again!

The location was great. Close to St Marks Square but far enough away to be further from the crowds. The hotel worker Elena was very helpful in providing information on how to get to and from the hotel. In addition we bought a bottle of wine to share with friends and she set up an ice bucket and glasses for us.

It was an annex from the hotel Where was no soap or tea or coffee and the AC was not working properly so it was hot and not clean and the most important thing the smell of rotten all over the place

The room was comfortable enough. It would have been too small for two people.

Two issues:
- the shower cubicle did not even allow one to turn round, scarcely deeper than a body. A large person would have found it impossible. The design of the bathroom, which included a bidet, needs consideration.
- the Aircon did not work. Already a warm April, it was uncomfortable with no ability to cool the room. Thankfully outside noise was low, so the windows could be open (exposing one to the risk of mosquitos).

Generally still a pleasant start and the staff welcome was warm and genuine.

Staff were very helpful and accommodating to our circumstances. I was travelling with some excess baggage ( hockey equipment) They stored in their office and staged it for an early morning checkout.. very much appreciated by us. 5 stars out of 5 😊

False advertisement when i paid local taxes and shown my room after check in the room was totally different from the pictures. I paid $130 for a jail cell. Rude staff. It was a two twin bed room i got two single seperate wonder bread size mattress. I left the hotel.

This hotel is quite small and cramped. Location is nice but for the $, not a great value. They charged us for coffee in the afternoon and the complimentary breakfast was not so good. No hot items and no room to sit down to enjoy, 2 tables out front of hotel are at least with a view of the water. Would not choose to stay here again.

Great Hotel location for the Venice Biennale.

My wife & I have stayed quite a few times before at Hotel Ca’ Formenta and undoubtedly this is the best located Hotel in Venice to visit the 2 main Biennale sites which are only a few minutes walk away. The hotel is also conveniently located a short walk away from Arsenale boat stop which is reached fairly quickly by the Alilaguna red or blue lines from Marco Polo airport.

Initially I was very disappointed to arrive late afternoon & be allocated an inferior ground floor dark, dingy and airless room for the first night of 3. However on request the Hotel did move us to a much nicer and airy Junior suite for the next 2 nights which more than made up for this. A big thumbs up to the Hotel management for sorting this out in a polite and efficient manner.

Apart from the excellent location, the hotel is kept very clean & is run smoothly, the breakfast is more than adequate & the hot water for showers is copious. Venice hotels are not exactly cheap but Ca Formenta usually represents fair value for money relative to competitors.

The only downside are that mattresses are extremely firm & unyielding. Sleep quality is something that many hotels are judged by so perhaps the hotel should review this situation. Also, I have been visiting for over 10 years now & the decor looks “tired” & has not changed at all in that time. Perhaps a refurbishment would help freshen things up. I would book again due to the great location but it would be great to see some investment.

The hotel is well localized at one end of via Garibaldi, mainly when the main intention is to see the Bienal (our case). Close to the Arsenale, it is possible to see it from the water boat coming from the airport. The room had an old decoration but wi-fi, refrigerator, TV and shower were working properly. There is a supermarket and many restaurants nearby.

The staff were very helpful, polite and friendly. Room was neat and well kept. Shower room was a little cramped but fine for us - people of a larger size would be uncomfortable, though. A petite shower cubicle offered ledges for toiletries and a small seat - very handy. Would stay again. Only negative was air con not in operation till June - last two nights were quite warm.

pros the double room was bigger, nice and clean with venetian style compared with the twin room, much more smaller, overall is ok for our duration of stay of 02 nights in Feb, 2018.

Fantastic little hotel only a 10 minute stroll from st Marks square. Large, comfortable room, we stated in room 407 which had the most beautiful views over the canal and allowed us to sit at the window and watch the most amazing sun rises and sun sets with a large glass of wine from the near by coop. Receptionist rickardo was fantastic, very friendly and helpful.

My daughter loved the fact that the canal runs through the back of the hotel and there is a lovely little courtyard between the two buildings. Very quaint hotel that is very pretty and nicely decorated.

Breakfast was very good, nice selection of continental breakfast. The bar next door was very reasonable and did the most fantastic pizza, all served with the most amazing view of the city.

This hotel definitely enhanced our stay on Venice! Would recommend and if we were to return to Venice at sometime in the future would definitely stay again. We have left with some amazing memories, including us getting engaged!

Hotel is kind of central location. Check in Time is 2:pm so make sure you look at that fine prints. When sent an email to request early check in, no response received.
Room was OK, bit outdated though.
Temperature control wasn’t working and room was cold. When complained to reception, I was told that they only turn heating centrally, eventually I had to shiver all night under blanket.
In Morning whilst having shower, due to poor drainage, water was all over on the floor and even seeped into main room.

Wouldn’t recommend as for same price, one can get better rooms out here.

Lagoon-facing with fabulous view and sunsets, short walk to Arsenale vaporetto stop, plenty of cafes and restaurants around, comfortable room and bed. Good hot shower, otherwise en-suite bathroom needs updating. Could do with more electric sockets. Clean white sheets and towels. Breakfast not impressive - over-sweet fruit juice from a machine, tinned fruit salad with fresh apple added, coffee pretty ordinary. Home-made yoghurt cake was a welcome addition. Sat outside one evening with a drink from the small hotel bar. Free wi-Fi.

Typical Venetian Hotel in a great location

The hotel is just a few steps from the lagoon and about a 10 minute walk to St Mark's Square along the waterside.
It feels part of real Venice rather than day tripper, tourist Venice because you are living beside the local people who treat the Via Garibaldi as an extension of their living room in the calm, warm evenings.

The Air Con was not working in our room 406. This was the room with the view so had three windows facing the sun all day. We made a complaint to the reception staff but he was unable to do so. Guess the ownership has to make the investment. They were not even able to supply a fan. In general the hotel's location is good and the hotel staff were extremely caring.

Hotel Ca’ Formenta was a very nice hotel. The location was excellent, it was away from the crowds but within a 5-10 minute stroll to St. Marks. As for the service, we asked for a couple of pillows before we went out to explore Venice and when we returned the pillows were already in our room. The breakfast was light and tasty with a more than generous start/end times. The only two complaints we would have was that the bed mattress was rather stiff, and the air conditioning kept the room just barely cool. But hey, you can’t please everyone’s tastes.
The bottom line is we wouldn’t hesitate staying there again.

The lady who was running the breakfast buffet gave me a look when she saw me taking 2 rolls for me and my kid to the point that my kid was afraid to go to breakfast the next day.
I had made the reservations for a triple room but when we got there there was only one double bed in our room. So I paid an extra 25 € per night to get another room since somehow my reservations had become non refundable.

Quiet location in busy Venice

We had 3 rooms and the 2 rooms on the ground floor were beautifully cool. Our room on the first floor was warmer and the air con was noisy but we didn't complain as we didn't want to have to move to another room because we had such a beautiful view! The room was very clean, comfortable, well equipped - no complaints. The staff were very helpful. I attempted some Italian but they happily spoke to us in English. It was exactly what we wanted in a location, ie away from the San Marco area but an easy walk away, plus the hotel is situated between 2 varporetto stops. We got a private water taxi from the airport (great!!) and the hotel has its own private dock so it was so easy to get there.

Basic hotel, a bit overpriced

It was a decent hotel, basic room, etc... Air conditioning worked well enough. Breakfast was basic continental style. They served leftovers the next morning, and the rolls would be days old and rock hard. But it was adequate for filling the belly. Super noisy room on first floor! Got woken up by the party/bar noises outside and the kitchen noises for breakfast. The bed was super hard and pillows flat as pancakes. Linens clean, but lots of dust in the room and floors needed to be swept and mopped bad! First night there, I walked around on my floor and had large amounts of crumbs, hair, etc...sticking to my feet and none of it was mine! Yuck

Quiet area of Venice

This hotel is located near San Marco plaza but far enough away that the crowds are non-existent. Many restaurants in the immediate area. And close to a water bus stop. This is a quaint hotel with small number of rooms. The only complaint is the shower was smaller than usual. Our first night was in a suite because the smaller room wasn’t available. We were upgraded at no charge. The 2nd night we moved to a standard room. But it was very good also. Very pleasant hotel.

The location was great as it is an easy 2 bridge walk from the Arsenale stop for the water transportation anywhere you need to go. The hotel was nice, not opulent, but very clean and in great condition. The room was so pretty and the black out drapes were wonderful and the air conditioner was wonderful!! We had stayed at another nice hotel the week prior and their air conditioner was not on yet for the season. It was difficult to sleep. This bath was small but clean and in great repair. The breakfast was the typical Italian fair and so convenient and clean.The lady who managed it was so sweet!! We loved our visit and the water view was amazing!! As you exit the front door there is a great cafe on your left for coffee Americano(closest to American coffee) and to the right a nice, beautiful restaurant beside the canal. We loved being close to the park in Castello and loved walking all around in it. Have fun!!

Wonderful little hotel located in a neighbourhood area provided a reprieve from the touristic chaos of beautiful Venice. Easy walking distance to all major sites and also to a lovely garden with a nice cafe.
The room was smallish and styled in Venician decor so it had an authentic feel. The bed was a bit hard and yet comfortable. The towels and sheeting were pristine. Restaurants patroned by locals line the street and offer good food and reasonable prices and a chance to be part of the neighbourhood.

Just returned from a 5 day break in Venice , the hotel was fab , it was in a great location in a lovely street surrounded by shops , restaurants and cafes. The hotel itself was lovely , we stayed in room 401 it had a view of the water which was lovely . Breakfast was good with plenty of choice , Water taxi from the airport to the Arsenale stop €130 which is 2 minutes walk over 2 bridges to the hotel. We had a lovely day out at the Lido which I would highly recommend.

Charming hotel in great location

Stayed 4 nights early March. Weather was cold and wet but warm and professional welcome at hotel. We chose a classic room which for a budget price, though small was clean and comfortable and had a fab view of the lagoon. Just a 10 min walk to St Marks Square. Continental breakfast was fresh and plentiful. Personally found the bed a bit hard but others may not think so.
Very happy and would happily recommend to anyone.

Great choice, lovely people at the Hotel!

Wonderful position in the City, ony 5 minutes walk to San Marco. Really warm welcome on arrival late at night, couple of extra pillows took a minute to arrive. Rooms are dated but 'traditional'. Had 2 small issues mentioned to reception on the morning (loose WC seat and TV remote not working) both fixed by lunchtime. The reception guys were great with helpful advice on where to eat and drink locally, and absolutely perfect recommendations. Great bar next door, Nevido Restaurant brilliant. We would definitely stay here again.

Reasonable rate in Venice, clean & comfortable

I would stay here again. It was a pretty basic hotel and it served it's purpose. The breakfast was perfect and the woman in charge of keeping us fed was fantastic! My only complaint, which the hotel can't do anything about, is that the boats driving on the small canal next to my room were loud on Saturday morning. Thankfully, this wasn't the case on Sunday morning! Also, for some of you larger people like me, the shower is quite a tight fit.

best setup in venice

The Ca Formenta is the best setup in Venice. Excellent location, friendly staff, generous breakfast, comfortable rooms. If you take the supreme class rooms you will wake up ti a view of the lagoon. Via Garibaldi is a normal neighborhood high street (uncommon for Venice), with regular shops and small restaurants and bars. In my last visit the owner of the Giorgione restaurant got up and sang a medley of old Italian crooners. For art people, the proximity to the Biennale sites is a great advantage.

A tad overpriced

This hotel is located in a very nice area, just by the Gran Canal in Venice, about 10- 15 minutes walking to St Marks square. The hotels in Venice are not cheap, naturally. Our room was generally nice, with a nice view over the canal etc, but the air condition machine was not working ( they said they activate them next week, October 16 ), the bathroom had zero ventilation, the mini bar had no price list ( luckily the prices we somewhat reasonable though ) and some nuisances like these. The breakfast was decent, not the best coffee ( especially considering being in Italy and in a rather expensive hotel ) but it was ok ( I was a bit amused to see that I was given the same chipped coffee cup 3 days in a row ). I have not stayed in other hotels in the center of Venice, so I can't exactly compare the value, but I think next time we will look for some other options.

Quiet hotel just out of the touristy area

This was the third time I had stayed here, although not since 2012 (first time for my friend), and I wasn't disappointed. The room was comfortable and had everything we needed (apart from a kettle but I always take my own anyway as it is unusual to find one in hotels in Europe). The staff were as friendly and helpful as I remembered and the free breakfast certainly lived up to expectations. I will definitely be visiting again and have recommended it to many friends. We always travel from the airport on the Alilaguna boat service to the Arsenale stop rather than a water taxi. It takes longer but is well worth it for the authentic local experience - a bonus is you can see the hotel as you approach the Arsenale.

Near to everything

Great location and lots of charm

Just got back from our Italy vacation and so happy with our hotel choice here for Venice! Great location overlooking to water! close to the vaporetto docks and a 5 minute walk to St.Mark's square. It was crowded in Venice so it was nice to be away for the heavy crowded areas.

Friendly staff but roach problem

Staff was very friendly and helpful. The room however, was small and a bit run down. The air conditioning unit made a loud clicking noise so the maintenance person fixed it and essentially said not to change the temperature or fan speed. The cockroaches were the worst. Mostly in the bathroom but not pleasant. They sprayed the bathroom so one evening it was dying cockroaches crawling out but the healthy ones came back a day later.

Nice location a bit off the beat

Nice location with few eateries, supermarket and some shopping close-by, Hotel entrance opens to a piazza next to the water and 3 min walk to a lovely park. 3-4 min walk to nearest public transport and nice 10-15 minutes walk at the water promenade to center. Great location if you like it a bit more quieter. We enjoyed the location. Next door great little bar and restaurant (Al Vecio Calice) with super friendly crew. Hitel is nice and clean and if you and early bird you can eat breakfast outside on the piazza.

Expensive and terrible

Location is pretty good, but this where anything good stops. Breakfast is terrible, with stale and hard bread and even the condiments seemed to have been around for a while. The air conditioner in our room did not work well and well they shrugged their shoulders. The room should have a single bed, but they put in two and called it a double bed so can charge accordingly. We found the front desk staff to be most unhelpful. It is interesting how they do not speak or understand English when not convenient. The final kicker - ROACHES - in the hallway and in the room! Reviews on Hotel.com was not reliable. Thinking of using another site such as Trivago going forward.

The hotel is in a convenient location, and has decent facilities.
The front desk staff were polite and helpful.
My hotel rate included continental breakfast each morning.

The Arsenale water bus stop is just steps away, from which you can take the Alilaguna service to the cruise port on one end, or to the Venice Marco Polo Airport on the other.

Great location good price

The hotel is well located only few minutes walk from plaza San Marcos. We had our meals on the restaurants next door. The food was amazing and better price that San Marcos square. The hotel's staff was very friendly and we had great breakfast included!
I highly recommend this place.

Great value for the location. It's about a 13 min walk to San Marco but I enjoyed staying away from all the tourists. It's right in front of the water, and plenty of food near by. We enjoyed our stay overall good size rooms and AC. The only thing is it was missing was more outlets we only found one in the room. But it wasn't a big deal. Breakfast was good too standard cereal, bread, and fruit. I would stay here again.

Ok for Venice standards

Key attractions for us were: the hotel is off the beaten tourist track but close to the Biennale, Via Garibaldi still retains much of its local character. The staff is very friendly at all times and tries to be helpful. This year, we made the mistake of booking a superior room; the only thing superior we could see was a bit more space in the room. On the other hand, we had to contend with a bathroom without window and without ventilation (!) The toilet is too close to the wall for comfort, and the runoff mechanics in the bathtub didn't work. The room was clean and cleaned every day to our satisfaction, but the bed cover looked like it could use a cleaning. Having water in the mini bar was nice. In all, nothing you don't have to contend with in other Venice 3-star hotels but this year, our experience was just below the level where we would feel comfortable recommending it to friends.
