Parking space was narrow, passenger had to get out first, then park. Apartment was a good size, sofa bed bit uncomfortable so put extra pillows underneath body. Shower was fine, but layout of bathroom sink wasn't great, a mirror would have been sufficient above the sink rather than a unit. As a result, it was almost impossible to spit out toothpaste into the sink. Heating was fine. Bit of a walk to the apartment from the car especially with crutches and a walking boot. Amar on reception was great with advice on what to do as our Milford Sound flight was cancelled.

We felt totally safe there. It fit our family comfortably. The room was clean. The property was close to the city center for eating and activities. Beautiful location. Parking was right in front of our place with a bar on the ground to ensure no one else took our stall. The only issue we had was with the water temperature in the shower. It was either super cold or burning hot. We loved our stay here and would stay again.

Relatively close to the city roughly 1km so you can walk to downtown Qt which is handy. Parking can be tricky as there are limited spots. Has all amenities one needs for a comfy stay.

Older, but clean space, felt more like a hostel. The shower had terrible water temperature and pressure. We stayed as a family of 5 for 2 days. If you are looking for a bed, small kitchen and toilet then it meets those needs. If you are looking for more space and some quiet it's not the best option.

The room was spacious as was the bathroom. Both were clean. The beds were comfortable. The shared kitchen was clean and had enough supplies. The fridge was clean and safe leaving labeled food. Parking was bad. Limited parking to first in. Tight parking spaces.
Property located on a hill. Walking to town took 10-15 minutes on way.

The room is clean, tidy, and very quiet. The environment on the second floor is really private and quite nice. There is just one issue: there are no mosquito screens on the windows, so we are concerned that mosquitoes might fly in and bother us at night.

Super close to skyline and town center. Also, good access to getting to Glenorchy-Queenstown and Arrowtown. Friendly staff checking in. Just an awesome and amazing experience here. Room fit our family perfectly and parking right outside our door. Heaters in the rooms to keep us warm.

The staff here are great and we booked it so that we had access to a kitchen, which was great (bbqs are also a plus). We knew that we would be sharing a bathroom, however, the building we were in had 1 toilet DOWNSTAIRS for 8 people. We have learned our lesson and won’t be booking a shared bathroom accommodation in the future. Even if it had been on the same floor as our room that would have been better, but we are older and walking downstairs at our age isn’t the best. There were also other guests who got up at 4am on our last morning and made a lot of noise, obviously not the hostel’s fault, but the walls are thin and the stairs are old and noisy.

I stayed in the Spike cabin number 7.It was awesome. I really want to thank Pinewood Team for their service and cleanliness. The room, kitchen and washroom was neat and tidy. Their housekeeping team needs to be appreciated for the amazing job. I will strongely recommend Pinewood for its cleanliness, prime location which is 5-10 minute walk to CBD and Gondola and value for money. The room use to be the porch area in an old building that had been covered and made into a small single bedroom. The window was two panes of single glaze sliding glass with a 5mm gap in between. Rats or mice running around in the ceilings. The room is in the middle of shared bathroom and toilet on the other side. Doors slamming and noise all night. Terrible!!

The room was much smaller than we were led to believe. We were not aware this was a dormitory style set -up with a shared kitchen, refrigerator and a common sitting room/living room. Given the rooms are so small, there is no room to put even one chair to sit on other than the bed. Also, the shower temerature changed whenever some in the building flushed a toilet or ran their shower or sink taps.

We got upgraded to a 1-bedroom apartment, which was amazing!! The apartment is very clean & well-equipped, plenty of space for two people, came with complimentary tea, coffee & biscuits, and we could store our luggage with at the Reception on the day we checked out. Very happy with the service, would definitely recommend Pinewood to our friends & families!

Nothing like what we booked on their website. We were put in a rooming house, bed was comfy but took up most of the room.
No towel service, finally got my own towels on day 3, we left early for excursion on Day 2 thinking we would get towels…Nope, and when went to office to ask for towels, they were all gone…
Shower is useless. There is one control that works the temperature AND the pressure at the same time. The temperature is scalding hot so to try and use the shower, you have to turn it right down to cold, which is still HOT, and barely dribbles out of the shower head.
Walls are paper thin…

We requested to do make up room on the second day stayed but when we came back none being done, as we aware of your program but we opened the window on the shower on the first night so a lot of insect or debris on the towels, but the receptionist was helpful and borrowed us okay fan just surviving second night, so the housekeeping was let down otherwise we will give 5 star

The staff was friendly. The room was a little older but it was clean and the beds were comfortable. It is walking distance to the city center and a grocery store. Also walkable to the gondola which is one of the main attractions of the city. I would stay there again. The price was fair and the WiFi worked well. Only small complaint would be that the shower had no cool temperature. It was hot or hotter.

Out of all the stays In New Zealand , no doubt the worst one !!! Very noisy , doors getting slammed all nights , very poor quality of cleaning in communal areas . Very strong smell . Very old property in general . Only a couple of good things about this property are customer service and location for no doubt.

Rooms spotless. Beds sooo comfortable. Soaps and shampoo provided of good quality. Communal bathrooms very good standard. Extremely good value for the price we paid and 10 mins walk to the Queenstown tourist centre.

BIGGEST negative!! 4 stars from me cos Walls are paper thin. You can hear the quiet conversations people have in the next room till late which was quite disturbing to get some sleep. God forbid you hear noises you don’t want to hear. Bring ear plugs.

We were there for 3 nights. Communal bathrooms remained uncleaned and messy for 3 nights. Cleaning of it would be nice.

Happy with the private bathroom. The room was basic but clean. Glad to have our own private carpark. Pinewood is close to the gondola; so it's in a convenient location. It's pricey for what you get (compared to Tasmania where we're from). But everything's overpriced in Queenstown.

Clean warm rooms, comfortable bed, nice clean white sheets and the cleanest shared bathroom I have ever seen. I was really impressed with the cleanliness.
We stayed in both the basic room which was the cheapest, and the next room up which had the bunk beds plus a double bed. Would recommend the one with the bunk bed (N block) as has less rooms/ people in that block so is a bit quieter. The kitchens were well equipped with plenty of space, and also designated space (by room number) in the fridges. The staff were really lovely and helpful. For Queenstown prices we felt that represents good value for the price. A very good comfortable place to stay for budget conscious travellers.

Our room was not ready when we arrived at 3pm for check in. We were told it might be another 1 - 1 1/2 hrs. It was pouring with rain and we had no where to go. We had to stand and wait for an hour in the crowded reception. There was no apllogy from staff or offer of a warm dry place to wait. When we eventually got into our room, the TV wasn’t working properly. We reported this to the staff at reception who just said it was probably due to the rain. He made no attempt to send anyone to look at it. 2 days later the tv was still not working so we told another staff member, who did send someone to look and fixed it. Overall the stay was disppointing due to poor service, and having to wait a long time to get into our room.

Great option for staying in Queenstown. Location is great as it’s close to the city core but very quiet. We stayed in a cabin unit and had everything we needed for the stay in the unit. The only 2 things we disliked was how small the bathroom sink was, and how tight the parking area was. Other than that, we had a nice stay at Pinewood.

The staff were very nice and helpful. One parking lot is provided, but our room was quite a distance from the entrance, and it's not paved (full of pebbles). The room was a little run-down as well (wooden cupboard peeling off, sofa bed was creaking a lot). The cooking area was small, and the dining table was tiny (enough space for only 2 people). Some of us had to stand while eating. Overall it was a peaceful and comfortable stay, but with a few inconveniences.

Biggest problem is parking. It is a disaster. The car park for my unit had six spaces for twelve rooms. Space on the street hard to find. If biking or hiking this motel is fine but I do not recommend if you have a car!

I had an excellent stay here. The staff were extremely friendly and went out of their way to help with anything I needed. They even upgraded me to a cabin for free, which made the experience even better.

The views from the property were beautiful, and the location is perfect—just a short walk from the town center but still quiet and peaceful.

Highly recommend this place, especially staying in one of the cabins. I would absolutely stay here again.

Parking into those narrow parking slots is not fun. We came back late to some dont care person parked into our parking slot and had to beg the staff to find the idiot who did at 10:30pm. The staff found the person and made them move. So awesome staff !

TLDR;

-Soundproofing issue if you booked a Quad room
-Facilities all working but old
-Decent food options about 14mins walk away (mostly flat but a bit of uphill leading to property),
-Surroundings can be bit dodgy
-Service was 100% AND thoughtful. We checked into a WARM room!

Pros first:

Staff were accommodating and have an “on to it” attitude. I’ve called the property one day before to request for extra towel and they sorted that out. On arrival day, our flight was delayed and staff put my mind at ease when they say they stay on property half an hour after closing the reception. We even have a warm room to settle down in when it was pouring outside!

I was told that housekeeping is usually done weekly so on day 3, we called to request for drink sachets to be topped up, rubbish taken out and vacuuming. This was all done, and additionally they changed towels and made the beds too. Only miss was milk topup (which to be fair, we didn’t request for). By now it sounds perfect since it’s priced affordably for 4 pax.

BUT…

Property facilities and furnishing were visibly old and tired, which given the price range, is fair enough. Drain in shower area would overflow a little if you run a little too long (can’t help when you have little ones). Soundproofing needs work, we had “neighbors” for 2 nights, and they sang till 10! Worst, we ran into a drunk man (about 3mins walk from property) at 6.30pm…was a scary encounter for our kids.

So I guess, you get what you pay for!

We had an overall excellent stay — the place is clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. The staff were welcoming and the atmosphere made us feel right at home.

The only minor issues we noticed were a strange smell in the toilet and that the shower drain wasn’t draining as smoothly as it should. These didn’t take away from the experience too much, but addressing them would make the stay absolutely perfect.

We’d definitely recommend this place and would be happy to come back!
