Everything was clean. I'd love to give 5 stars but there were quite a few things in a state of disrepair. The chair in our room was falling apart and ready to break, towels were unraveling, the shower curtain had grommets falling off. A bunch of little things that either pointed to the hotel being in financial trouble or just not having regular maintenence done. The front desk girl was super stressed and short with us. It sucks because we love staying in old buildings and I've stayed throughout the years but it seems like things might be falling apart a bit. BUT it was clean and we had a place with comfortable beds for the night.

Not for business travelers. The rooms are ancient, windows dont even have curtains, just slatted blinds.., light comes in from the street. The fitness cente ris through a maze and not well equipped. Bathrooms need major upgrades. And teh brakfast place does not open till 7 AM and then its a 15-20 minute wait to get your food.
It has the potential to be a niche downtown hotwl..., but definitely not there right now.

The parking lot was full when we arrived. It was late at night, and they offered an overflow lot a couple of blocks from the hotel, which was also closed. Thankfully, it was closed, because if you have ever been to downtown Spokane at night, you would know that the streets are full of crackheads doing crackhead stuff! We parked in front of the hotel and paid for meter parking instead. The room we stayed in required us to haul our stuff up a short set of steps, even though there was an elevator we could not access. The room was comfortable and well appointed. The front desk staff was helpful at check-in, not so much at check-out, as they argued that we had to pay the $10 parking fee even though we didn't use their lot.

We did get a ticket one of the days but manager promptly voided it when brought to their attention. Walls are thin is our only complaint. Can easily hear neighbours conversations.

There was a red stain on the top of the blanket for the bed and more on the tiles in the bathroom. One of the towels had a large hole and there were multiple flies in the room. When I arrived the fridge and microwave were not functioning because they were wired to an outlet that was switched, so whenever you flipped the light switch off the fridge would also turn off.
All the staff I spoke with were friendly and helpful, but the hotel is generally not in that great of shape. It's an older building so I'm willing to accept some compromises, but the state of my room was unacceptable.

She was going to downgrade to just a room from a 2 bedroom/living/kitchen... thankful for another guest who said \"ill go find your room and see if there is another way up for you\" he was awesome found another way and had to show the EMPLOYEE how to get there. I couldn't believe a guest would do that , not the worker and the worker was just going to change my room. Well the rest of it went great. There was a guy outside shouting for more than a hour one night which sucked but you are downtown.

We had a 5 day stay at the Montvale. To start the room was beautiful but we quickly found it was not cleaned. We found a moldy dirty glass coffee mug in one of the sitting chairs, receipts from dates weeks earlier than our stay and old food dressing packets, a used dental flosser and hair accessories in the bathroom. Maids have a hard job so we just cleaned up ourselves and moved forward. Knowing we had a long stay we didn’t want to be those people.
Staff-you have to request towel changes and with 2 adults and 3 children we often needed fresh towels, whenever we requested them we felt like their tone was rude and felt like an inconvenience to them. Also I asked for them to leave them at the door and they knocked and woke everyone. We also had questions about the sister property where you are able to access the pool. The staff answered us with “I don’t know” when simply asking for the address of the sister location. But the cherry on top of our stay was a blaring fire alarm at 3 am the night before we left, the entire building had to evacuate. When the firemen cleared the building we went to return and were waiting in the lobby. We didn’t grab a key while evacuating to not burn to death. The night manager simply reprimanded us for waiting and told us “you can go to your room now!” Instead of checking why we were waiting. The staff needs a huge overhaul on customer service and simply being kind. We didn’t even ask for a refund for a lost night of sleep.

The hotel is located in a rundown area, and the photos don't accurately reflect what you actually get. My daughter did not feel safe staying there, so I asked if we could move to their sister hotel and offered to pay any difference in price. Despite both properties being owned by the same company, they declined to accommodate the request. I found that response disappointing and felt it reflected poor customer service. The historic Montvale has a lot of vintage character and boutique hotel appeal. It's located downtown in easy walking distance of shops and restaurants. Inside, there is a large atrium with rooms located around the periphery, but it felt very quiet, almost too much so--the nice lounge furniture was never occupied. Our room was spacious, with cool historic art on the walls, but it was very dark once daylight was gone. No overhead lights in the high ceiling, and inadequate lamps. Too dark to pack a suitcase easily at nighttime. Comfortable bed, nice bathroom. The hotel provides a voucher for breakfast across the road at a sister property. But breakfast doesn't include coffee or tea! The Montvale has a coffee station of its own, but when you go to sit down at a restaurant for an included hotel breakfast, coffee should be included. Also, the two guys at the front desk (one was a trainee) could have used a bit more professionalism in their appearance and attire.

This is an older hotel with no amenities. The floors creak and you can hear people walking above you. The walls seem not well insulated as noise from adjacent rooms was an issue. If you are a light sleeper, avoid. Lighting in the room is also very dim and the TV didn’t work in my room.

Also, the free breakfast is a one block walk away at a restaurant. You get a choice of a breakfast burrito (which I might say was actually really good) or a couple other items. It is very well located in downtown Spokane and you can easily walk to any of the many restaurants and bars and the Riverfront Park area. The mall that is a few blocks away is also very nice.
