The Witchery by the Castle offers a range of opulent suites in Edinburgh, each one unique with its own special features. Lavishly furnished suites display gothic touches, with large oak beds and 4-posters, velvet-lined walls and flamboyant red and gold décor indicative of the style.

There are separate seating areas and large bathrooms with free-standing silver baths. Each of The Witchery’s 9 suites is different, but walk-in dressing rooms, love seats and tapestries set the tone.

Some rooms overlook Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, looking down towards Princes Street, or across to the old town. An indulgent breakfast hamper will be served in the room each morning or guests can choose to have a cooked breakfast served in the restaurant at no extra cost.

It is difficult to fault Kilkea Castle as every aspect of the property impressed. The little things therefore matter and small faults in maintenance, which should be dealt with in a luxury property, tend to stand out more. However, that is digging into the fine detail. So, first impressions carried through from first stepping inside with a warm welcome, the engaging housekeeping staff and superbly professional dining/breakfast room staff. On site activities are a nice touch and worth looking at.
Food was well prepared and delivered well. Room was well appointed and tastefully decorated in keeping with the overall castle make-over.
Would we go back, in a blink of an eye. Well located in Co.Kildare, the castle offers a great location to explore Ireland's spinal counties. Is Kilkea a great location to simply relax at, absolutely. Go on, indulge.

Our stay at Kilkea Castle was very nice. The carriage room was spacious and nicely appointed. The grounds were lovely, the staff was friendly and the breakfast was delicious. The only area for improvement was with dinner....we ate at Hermione's and the food was so-so. Definitely room to improve with the dinner options.

It's definitely a unique experience staying in the Luxury Castle rooms. The staff were attentive, the food was overall really good, and the Thermal Spa experience was a nice addition to our stay.

I would absolutely recommend to stay at Kilkea Castle for at least 2 nights.

Who doesn't want to stay at a 900-year-old castle when you visit Ireland? It was a magical visit and the capstone of our visit to the Emerald Island. The staff was beyond welcoming and excellent. The setting was perfect - the room was luxurious and the food was first class. We could not have asked for more and have recommended this to our friends!

Staff, grounds, food and drinks were all top tier. The castle is beautiful. Andrew , our bartender, was extremely helpful and attentive. Recommend staying. Room was great as well, but there wasn't any way to control the temperature and we sweat all night. I'd love to have played some golf, which also looked amazingly well maintained, however, we were only in for the evening.

We stayed in one of the carriage rooms at Kilkea Castle on the last night of our 9 day / 8 night vacation across Ireland. The castle and the grounds are both beautifully maintained and quite impressive to see as you drive up. We walked around the inside of the guest areas within the castle including the restaurants and they were very beautiful and welcoming. We had booked a one night stay in a carriage room as the castle was completely full the night we were there. Unfortunately we were not as impressed with the carriage rooms as we were with the rest of the castle. The first room they gave us was a wheelchair accessible room which was not what we had requested and it was quite small. When we went back and asked if another room was available the manager eventually approved moving us to another room. The second room was larger than the first and more comfortable. We were under the impression that the carriage rooms had recently been renovated based on the website; however the carpet was pretty worn out as was the mattress. Our reservation was to include breakfast however we had to leave for the airport before breakfast started at 8am. The person checking us in said they would put breakfast bags together for us instead; however these were not available at the time we checked out which was just before 8am. We also weren't able to eat on the property ground the evening before as the hotel didn't communicate that reservations were necessary at the time we booked it.

Our stay at the castle could not have been nicer from the moment we arrived and met Seamus, who welcomed us and helped us bring our bags in, we knew we were in for a great stay. The staff was very friendly and helpful and couldn't have been nicer. The castle itself is in remarkable condition and they seem to have paid great attention to all of the little details. I cannot say enough great things about the grounds and the wonderful work the gardeners and groundskeepers do at Kilkia Castle. While walking the grounds, the words immaculate and breathtaking were said more than once by members of our family,. Our room was as nice as the rest of the castle. We stayed in the Lady Emmaline (I hope I got that name right) room and we found it to be very comfortable and cozy and were surprised by how large the room was. We hope to return in the future. Next time I may bring my golf clubs and play on the immaculate course that surrounds the grounds. Overall I would say it is an unforgettable stay.

We had an unforgettable stay at Kilkea Castle! From the moment we arrived, we were enchanted by the stunning grounds and historic charm of the property. We stayed in Carriage Room 230, which was beautiful and had great viewst thanks to windows on all sides.

Dinner at Hermione's was a real highlight — not only was the food excellent, but the view of the illuminated castle in the evening was absolutely magical. After dinner, we headed to The Keep bar for drinks, where Andrew, the bartender, made the experience extra special. He was friendly, personable, and made us feel right at home.

Later, we took a peaceful walk through the rose garden and along the river to the pond — a perfect end to the evening. Breakfast the next morning was inside the castle and just as delightful.

What really stood out was the staff. My husband had accidentally left his wallet at the bar, and everyone — from the front desk to our servers — made sure we got it back. Their kindness and attentiveness made us feel so well cared for.

Highly recommend staying here for the beautiful setting, great food, and outstanding service. We’ll definitely be back!

Our arrival and stay at Kilkea Castle was perfect and every detail was exactly as I had hoped. Clean rooms, exceptional service, and an amazing setting. Superb.

Trying to depart was not so great. The staff went above and beyond to assist us, and I only say this as a warning to others. Book your transportation through the hotel as our prebooked car never arrived, and the ride shares would not pick up in the early morning.

I have never stayed at a castle before but after this I definitely plan to do it again! So cool and gorgeous driving up the lush green drive to Kilkea Castle, I felt like a princess immediately upon arrival. Check in staff were excellent, helpful and lovely. Slight issue with my first room that Keala resolved for me right away. Walking around the common grounds and gardens was so dreamy with the castle in the background and the plethora of seating areas downstairs/near the bar were inviting and relaxing. Not to mention how delicious and very princess-like the complimentary breakfast was in restaurant 1180 before my departure. Stay here, you won't regret it. The only thing I will say is if you want night life you will likely have to go to the closest town but if you're okay with a quieter evening in a freaking castle then there's nothing to worry about.

Amazing grounds to explore on a nice day

The grounds are lovely and kept very well. The staff were all very kind.

The main downside was the position of our room, 227. It is right on one of the roads that cars frequently pass so it can be very loud in there. There are 3 sets of windows in the master bedroom and the blinds don't do a job of keeping light out, the one facing the golf course can even not block line of sight to the room fully.

So as soon as the sun is up the room is flooded with light making it hard to sleep into the morning at this time of year.

How fun to stay in a castle! This one is accessible but still luxurious. We didn't have time to take advantage of the gorgeous golf course or spa services, but the fine dining restaurant for dinner, breakfast and grounds were everything we were hoping for and more. Would highly recommend and hope to go back!

Our room was part of the old carriage house (horse stables) attatched to the castle. The castle and the grounds are beautiful.

I wish there was more to explore/see in the actual castle. The reception, bar, sitting areas, and breakfast are in the castle proper.

Gorgeous castle. We stayed in a beautiful, spacious carriage room. We had a lovely evening meal in Hermione's restaurant at the clubhouse followed by drinks in the Keep bar. Breakfast the next morning was so nice. Lots to do and see. We couldn't fault it.

Overall it was a nice enough stay. The food and service wasn’t the best experience. Service was quite slow, they seemed to have had some issues with their systems. The hotel is lovely and the location is great but the food and service fell short especially given the expectations you have for a place like Kilkea castle. The fine dining restaurant also wasn’t open which I wasn’t aware of when booking. Only dinner option was the golf clubhouse which had a somewhat limited menu. Would not recommend room service as the food didn’t taste the best. The food fresh from the clubhouse is much better.

We came to Kilkea to celebrate our anniversary and could not have been more pleased! From the moment we walked through the castle doors, the staff was gracious and friendly. Everyone remembered our names…so it certainly had a Cheers from Boston vibe! From the front desk, the spa, the dining, the historical grounds, and bartenders at The Keep, what more could we have asked for. We can’t wait to be back!

Lovely stay with amazing food

Amazing hotel, beautiful castle and grounds. Carriage rooms are spacious and decorated beautifully. You can hear everything from next room though. All the staff were so helpful and nice. Food at the golf club and at hotel breakfast was absolutely divine. Super tasty! Breakfast also had freshly squeezed orange juice. Definitely will be back someday to try the afternoon tea.

Beautiful hotel set in amazing grounds. Very frosty conditions during our stay which added to the overall ambience. Staff very attentive. Food was excellent. We had a lovely dinner in the Hermione restaurant. Breakfast choice very good. Bar was very busy in the evening with just one person serving so it could have been better staffed. Open fire in lounge was a lovely touch but went out early in the evening and there was no one to relight it despite our requests. Shame as it was an extremely cold night. Overall a lovely stay.

Castle stay. Worth it.

Come on, it was stay in a castle! Loved it. Though I arrived late, I loved grabbing a drink and hanging out by the fire in the reception area and walking the grounds at night. The bed was so comfortable and waking up to the amazing breakfast did the trick of refreshing me after a long drive the day before.

Beautiful location and grounds. The staff were very polite and helpful. Had Dinner and breakfast. Both had great service and food good. The Spa was extra treat but you only get 1 hour which i feel you could do with extra time. Would definitely recommend at would go back again.

The grounds is beautiful, and the room is very nice. However, the front desk is disinterested and unhelpful with any information. In both the day I checked in and the day I checked out, the front desk staff offered no help and information, and I had to return multiple times to get the basic important information about the property and my stay. I expect a lot more at the rates paid for one of the most expensive rooms on the property.

The accommodation and staff are excellent, courteous, and friendly.

My only dissatisfaction was the breakfast, served at the table cold, and the staff immediately replaced it with slightly warmer servings, but unfortunately, the only quality item was the fried egg, all the other ingredients were sub-standard. Not the good last memory to take away from a superb stay.

This was a dream come true! I decided to wake up in a castle for my birthday and based the rest of the days itinerary on the availability which I booked just 3 months in advance. The entire staff was so friendly & helpful,especially Christian who greeted us at the door and continued to offer services of direction, help with photos and also a warm smile. We had a delicious dinner at Hermione’s(warmly greeted by Ava who also served us!)and a delicious breakfast in Restaurant 1180. It’s great to have checkout at noon so one can walk the grounds if only staying one night. There was a wedding getting ready as we drove away and I can imagine weddings there are exquisite. Although we don’t play golf, this, too, was the place to be for that. The history of the castle drew me in as well as there is ample explanation of the who,what, where and how it all began. I hope to return someday!

My daughter and I visited Castle Kilkea recently and had an absolutely magical visit. We did not have enough time to enjoy all the activities offered as our main goal have a couple of days of girl time with our favorite books in an Irish castle setting. From check in to check out we received VIP treatment from everyone. I cannot express enough how nice everyone was. We sat by the fireplace in the common room and read our books, drinks and snacks in the “The Keep” (the pub), and the Spa. The thermal spa is worth every penny! Do not skip this. Breakfast was included and very good. The buffet had good options and they also offered some prepared dishes. Both restaurants were wonderful as well. Oh! The gardens and grounds are picturesque. Walking around the estate gave a grandeur feeling that ties it all in together. Really, the whole experience was just magical. I would love to return one day.
