Excellent location, simple check in and a small cafe/bar in the lobby. If you’ve arrived by train the location Is so convenient (taking the market street exit there will be stairs). Location is also perfect for all the sights! Wifi was strong, A few steps to the room…but it’s Edinburgh and nothing is flat!

A Perfect \"Base Camp\" for Tourists
This hotel is an ideal choice if your priority is location, location, location. It places you directly in the heart of the Old Town, making it perfect for travelers who plan to spend most of their time exploring and just need a clean, modern place to sleep. However, the trade-off for being in the center of the action is that rooms are compact and the area can be busy and noisy.
The Best Part: You are literally seconds from the Royal Mile. Edinburgh Castle, St Giles' Cathedral, and the National Museum of Scotland are all within a 5-10 minute walk. Edinburgh Waverley train station is also very close (about a 5-minute walk).
Style: Rooms feature the standard modern ibis design—functional, clean, and bright with wood-effect flooring.
Size: Be prepared for small rooms. They are \"compact\" by design, meaning there isn't much floor space for large suitcases.

Breakfast: The daily buffet is consistently rated well. It’s a \"hearty\" spread with both hot (sausages, bacon, haggis, eggs) and cold (pastries, fruit, yogurt) options.

Hotel is very conveniently located right off the Royal mile. Room was clean and comfortable.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
My only complaint is that there was construction and painting happening in the hotel and on our floor, which no one advised us about upon check in. Would be nice to know if hotel is under renovation ahead of time.

It was the perfect location for us — near everything we wanted to see at walking distance. The only downside was the construction happening which we know is necessary at times. There was also a day where there was no hot water so we couldn’t shower but it sounds like that was an unexpected issue — it would’ve been nice to have been notified of that issue that it sounds like they had known about it all day and we found out at night. Staff was nice, location was great, and the heater was nice to have in the chilly nights.

We decided while on holiday to stay overnight in Edinburgh. I was looking for a hotel close to the Royal Mile. This hotel was literally one block away (Starbucks is up on the corner for those who need a little taste of home. PLUS there is a cute coffee shop right next door). It was actually the closest hotel to where our tour for the Harry Potter and Edinburgh castle tour met up. The staff was amazing! We arrived just after midnight...which unfortunately made it impossible for us to get into the car park (though there was a number you could call...but I forgot to add +44 to the beginning). Luckily, we were able to park just down the street. The entry to the hotel was by key only, but you needed a key to get from the lobby to the rooms. It was a tiny hotel from the part we saw. Our room was just off the dining area. You have to use your key to keep the lights on (it took us a minute to figure that out). The mattress was firm with a thin topper on top. Pillows were too hard for my taste. I just need to remember to bring a travel pillow for comfort. We didn't get a chance to stay for breakfast, but there were several people eating and looking very happy and well rested. Overall, I would stay there again. It's very convenient and I felt safe.

Service was good, it was a clean hotel in a great location. However, room and bathroom were extremely small. The biggest issue was the beds. The mattress was about 3inches thick and hard as a rock. If you are ok with a very poor nights sleep for a great location this would be a good option for you.

The breakfast was excellent. The location can't be beat in Edinburgh you can walk to all the sights, restaurants, shopping. However, the rooms were extremely small but livable. If you're planning on renting a car to see Scotland like we did, you might want to land. Take a taxi to the front door and walk or take buses or trim during your stay in Edinburgh. You can then take a taxi back out to the airport to the rental car area and leave from there to unbelievable sites. I recommend going up through the highlands as a starter. We are now on the Orkney Islands and there are tremendous things to see and experience.
Be aware that drive-in in Scotland is somewhat of a challenge not only being on the left side of the road and roundabouts everywhere. But the roads are very narrow so I recommend renting a smaller car! Good luck! You're going to need it!

Perfect place to stay close to the Royal Mile

The rooms were nice and the hotel was literally a 30 second walk from the royal mile. There is a pub right close to the hotel called the Piper’s Rest that was so much fun. My daughter’s had everything they needed and enjoyed the location. The staff made things very easy for us and arranged taxi pickup for both my girls on different days. Taxi pickup was at the front door.

There were two negatives with our stay.
1. The room I stayed in faced the street entrance and was extremely noisy until late at night.
2. The room was very warm in the afternoon and evening. The windows would not open in the room fan unit was insufficient. To move the air. You either need to provide a large fan or make it possible to open the window for cool fresh air.

Sadly, of all the places we stayed in Scotland, your hotel was the only one that was disappointing. It was a combination of things. No fridge in the room, no airconditioning, and your picture online is receiving. Your photo makes it look much larger, which I suppose is the point.

The other thing was, that even with the window closed, the noise from the homeless people below, bellowing constant swear words, and making noise well into the middle of the night, prevented us from getting any proper sleep.

I purposely booked your hotel on the strength of your image, and location.

Sadly, all it did was disappoint.

I stayed one night, a Sunday night in July.
Pros: extremely centrally located near train station and halfway on the Royal Mile. Many shopping, dining, and pub options nearby. Helpful professional staff. The lifts and corridors were clean. Clean room, extra blankets and pillows. Large bright windows overlooking Hunter Square.

Cons: There was quite a bit of noise until around 9 or 10 in the evening. Several times the smell of cigarettes or cigars would come in through the window from the street below. The water pressure in the shower (floor one) was extremely low, front desk said maintenance would look into it.

Given the location, I knew the room would be small, but it was much smaller then expected. Very little storage. The bathroom is very small and the toilet is inches from the wall. Not easy to use. Also, the parking garage is a good 1/4 mile away down and inconvenient..

If you’re looking for a place that is close to everything including the Royal Mile, this is it. However, be prepared for zero sleep. It is so loud and noisy all the time. People in the square were yelling all night long. 5 am ppl were still out screaming and yelling making it very difficult to sleep. The rooms are clean but very tiny. The toilet was so close to the wall that someone taller than 6 “ will not fit. The beds are very soft and if you have to sleep on the pull out couch bed, it’s short and feet will hang off the end and the mattress is uncomfortable. The rooms and hotel itself are so hot that you can’t cool down. At one point our room was so stuffy even with the windows open which was hard to improve with zero air movement. If you want a place that has air conditioning this is not it. Even a fan would have been nice to move the air. The staff were friendly which is nice to experience but that’s about it for this place.

The hotel staff was amazing! We had a fast and smooth check in/out. You also can’t beat the location. It’s central to absolutely everything. With that, it was incredibly difficult to sleep at night with all of the noise (recycling glass collection and foot traffic all night long). With no AC, we had to keep the windows open for cool air and unfortunately our window seemed like a heavily traveled road for late night transit. It was loud! The room was clean and comfortable for the most part but could definitely use some stronger water pressure in the shower.

This is the second time we’ve stayed at Ibis Hunter Square, and both times have been wonderful. It’s well located and had a friendly staff. The breakfast is not included, but the cost of it is certainly better than you’re going to pay at virtually any restaurant in the area. It’s not the most elaborate breakfast, but certainly works. We also loved their plan of giving you a 5 pound credit if you don’t have your room made up. We used the credits for breakfast and some ice cream at the bar.

Was amazing, only a couple of little things that i could say were slightly negative. 1st one is the heating, got a little cold in the room and because of the heating setting had to get a portable heater from reception. 2nd one is the tv, as a recommendation i would have more choice of channels to watch.
