Highly Recommended – Fantastic Location in the Heart of Edinburgh

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at 6 Market Street and would happily recommend it to anyone visiting Edinburgh.

The location is hard to beat—directly opposite Waverley Station and right in the heart of the city. Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile, Princes Street, excellent restaurants, and many of the city’s major attractions are all within easy walking distance.

Our first room wasn’t ideal, but the team handled the situation exceptionally well and promptly moved us to a much quieter room without any fuss. The room was spotlessly clean, and the bed was one of the most comfortable we’ve slept in during our travels.

A unique bonus was the complimentary in-room minibar, which is replenished daily with drinks and snacks—a thoughtful touch that we really appreciated.

The staff were always friendly, professional, and eager to help. My only suggestion for improvement would be to ensure the front-of-house team has a deeper knowledge of Edinburgh’s attractions, restaurants, and local amenities. In a city with so much history and character, knowledgeable hotel staff can add enormous value to a guest’s experience.

Overall, an excellent hotel in a superb location, and we would stay again.

The location is wonderful, with easy walks to many of the sights. I really wanted to love this place, but at $550/night for the lowest grade room, my expectations weren't met. Check-in on the 7th floor was easy & my room was ready on arrival at 2:30. I found a glass at the sink, with toothpaste residue at the bottom, leaving the cleanliness of the other dishes, suspect. My cozy room had limited natural light. The bed was comfortable. Complimentary drinks & snacks were appreciated, except for the decaf coffee which came in a packet that had to be steeped for 4 minutes & which left so many grounds, it was undrinkable. I was able to buy pods at a local Tesco. Neither washcloth nor paper/pen were provided. Kettle, Nespresso, milk frother, hair dryer & small clothes steamer are provided.

The Nespresso machine leaked, & after 2 mornings of cleaning up that mess, I requested & received a replacement. It, too, leaked; the machines may need servicing/descaling. The rainfall shower put out more water than the drain could handle, leading to flooding; I reported this & after a day, it was serviced. The Laura Thomas & Co. toiletries have a very strong scent; glad I brought my own. There are no towel bars, only a couple of hooks. The hotel wants to be green, but there was no place to hang towels to hygienically dry them for reuse. The sink & mirror are in the entry vestibule, outside the bathroom. The lighting is very dim there.

If you are a boutique hotel person, you will love this place! It is directly across the street from the Waverly Train station so no cab/Uber needed. You walk in the door and are directed to the 7th floor (us by the ever helpful Andre-Thank-you!) to check in and are greeted with champagne on your arrival by the super nice and helpful staff. This also allows you to see where the optional included breakfast will be (with all wonderful servers, but a special thank-you to Jakub for his extra time and attention!) and the afternoon/evening small plates and bar are located. There is a nice terrace overlooking the city for evening drinks with a beautiful view (open to the public so you may need reservations on really nice evenings). We stayed in a single handicap room, which could use a mirror near an outlet for hair styling but was otherwise good. We also stayed 4 nights in the larger suite room, which had everything we needed. There are complementary beverages and snacks in the room and nice shower products. The hotel is in easy walking distance to both the old and new town areas and the Princess Street Park. We really enjoyed our stay here and actually cancelled our airport hotel to stay here again before we left. Thank-you to all of you, we really enjoyed our stay-and we are still rooting for Scotland in the cup!!!!!

The location was perfect. Right next to the Royal Mile, but still in Newtown so you had modern conveniences and were close to great restaurants. It’s right next to the train station and the bus station so easy to move around the country and get to the airport. The rooftop bar was beautiful and a great place to have breakfast or room. The hotel was modern, clean, comfortable. And the staff was.

We recently stayed at the Market Street Hotel and had a mixed experience. The staff throughout the hotel were consistently friendly, welcoming, and helpful, which was very much appreciated. The facilities themselves are lovely, and the hotel has a beautiful overall atmosphere and location.

Unfortunately, the housekeeping and maintenance standards did not match the quality the hotel presents. The shower contained visible black mold, which was disappointing in an otherwise upscale property.

In addition, a sharp metal piece of trim had fallen off in the bathroom. Each day it was stood back up by housekeeping, but maintenance was never contacted to properly reattach or repair it, despite it being an obvious safety concern.

While the room was tidied daily, the garbage bins were often not emptied.

Overall, the hotel has great potential because of its excellent staff and beautiful property, but greater attention to cleanliness and maintenance details is needed to fully meet expectations.

Like many of the hotels in the old quarter they have no parking, however for a base hotel, this is the hotel to book. Clean, modern, quiet with a good breakfast. The staff are cheery, helpful and professional.
All the sights to see are within a short walk. Many restaurants close by

There was not enough information provided to the customer at check in regarding the amenities of the room. Also, one of the attendants at the champagne/breakfast bar was a little rude concerning eating breakfast there. I did not make a reservation there for breakfast the next day because I did not know you had too! If anyone had told me that I needed to make a reservation I would have done so. Maybe someone should talk to the short (maybe French) guy who works there about giving more information about reservations before chastising customers about not making a reservation! Overall, good service and good breakfast selections.

The hotel has an excellent location, just minutes from Waverley Station, which was very convenient as we arrived via train. At the end of our stay, we walked 5 minutes to the Airlink 100 bus stop on Waverley Bridge, so it was close to airport transportation as well. We were minutes from the Royal Mile and close to New Town too. The hot breakfast offerings were great and the breakfast buffet was well stocked with a good variety of fruit, cereal, yogurt, baked goods, meats and cheeses. I especially enjoyed the included champagne at breakfast. We also enjoyed the in-room snacks with Scottish brands, which were also included. The Artist Vista room was small but adequate and had creative space solutions, such as the sliding wood panel that functioned as a curtain. I highly recommend this hotel and would stay here again!

I had an excellent stay at this hotel. I loved that it was a 1 minute walk from Waverley station and within a 15-20 minute walk to everything else in Edinburgh. My room was very clean and comfortable and I appreciated the extra touches such as complimentary snacks with tea and coffee on my room and slippers. I would happily stay here again on future trips

We switched to this hotel at the last minute, and it turned out to be a good decision. The hotel is relatively new and modern, and the location is excellent. The room was surprisingly quiet even though the hotel is across from the train station. We wanted to sit in the lounge on the 7th floor, but wine purchase was required, so we decided not to stay there. The staff was polite, although they could have been a bit warmer. The foam pillows were also not very comfortable though.

The room was clean, and the bed was reasonably comfortable. They use a memory foam-style mattress topper, so as a side sleeper who moves around a lot, it took a while for it to adjust and reshape. Aside from that, the bed was firm but acceptable.

The room itself was clean, but the view between the hotel rooms really needs attention—especially since there are two windows facing it. Unfortunately, it looked more like a back alley filled with garbage than a pleasant view.

The sign as you come in needs to be more clear that the 7th floor is the reception as well as roof top terrace. Also the web site stated straighteners in room but you have to ask if in certain rooms . Other than these 2 points our stay was lovely and the hotel was exceptionally

Perfect stay in Edinburgh-great location, right by the station and between old town and new town. Lovely welcome by the friendly staff and free glass of champange was an added bonus. Beautiful clean room although we were overlooking the street there was no noise. House keeping was impeccable every day even though we were a bit late leaving our lovely room somedays. We had a bottle of wine in the rooftop restaurant and you couldn't beat the views. Staff were very friendly there as well, even though we were only having a drink. .All in all I highly recommend this hotel and will definitely stay here again next time we visit Edinburgh

It was our honeymoon and they upgraded to an outstanding room that really made our trip special with a truly beautiful view. The location can’t be beat and the staff were incredibly kind. Really enjoyed my stay at Market Street Hotel. I was on an early flight into Edinburgh so it was particularly appreciated that I was able to check in to my room when I arrived. I’d fully expected just being able to store my bag until later. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the room was lovely. Big with a very comfy bed. It’s easy to travel to and from the airport as well (tram & then train to Waverley Station). Had a lovely pastry and coffee at Room and Rumour cafe which is a few of minutes walk from the hotel. It was an easy walk to Badger & Co where I was meeting my friends for lunch too.

What can I say ? I don’t think I could have chosen a better hotel it is central to just about everything including the train station and airline buses.
Starting with the staff who were so helpful and just lovely.
The hotel is stylish, clean and modern.
We had a cozy room which was very spacious, they think of everything to GHD hair dryer and straighteners, gorgeous smelling shampoo, conditioner, moisturiser etc.
Complementary bar and snacks in the room including a pint of milk for tea and coffee making which consisted of a kettle as well as a coffee pod machine.
I cannot praise this hotel enough and will definitely stay here again as I’ve fallen in love with Edinburgh.

The room was very clean and comfortable. They provided room slippers also. The location was excellent. Right across from Waverley station. Since my husband and I took the train from London, it was convenient.

It is located in the center of all attractions, so we walked everywhere from the hotel. Lots of pubs and cafes near by.

We purchased breakfast for 2 mornings. Food was delicious and fresh, and the staff members were very tentative and polite. The lounge is located onv7th floor, we were able to enjoy the view of Scotts monument and the park.

The price was very reasonable yet excellent customer service. We would definitely stay again if we ever travel to Edinburgh.

One of the best hotel stays I’ve ever had. Everyone at reception that I interacted with was kind and helpful. Hotel was super clean and in a fantastic location. My room was on the second level and I couldn’t hear anything outside despite it being in a busy area. Also, as a solo traveler, I felt very safe!

The room itself was incredible. One of the comfiest beds I’ve ever slept on and the included minibar was a huge bonus! Loved everything in it. I honestly loved every minute I spent in my room because it was so cozy and comfortable.

I would easily stay here again when I come back to Edinburgh and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone else!

The staff were very friendly! The location is perfect to walk around the city for sure. We thought the bed would be uncomfortable when we felt the mattress but it was surprisingly very comfortable. The only complaint we have is the parking and the burning smell outside. Either from the fireplace on the ground floor or the coffee house next door. We had to park in a car park that was a long walk with a lot of luggage. Which wasn’t fun at all. But overall, it was a great hotel and would definitely recommend staying there.
