This was a lovely hotel overall. The family room was exceptionally clean and comfortable, and the bedroom and cubby-hole space perfect.

The wi-fi didn't work so well, and so the TV and the Bose music speaker didn't connect - small things, but if they're being provided, they should work. The room was quite a way from reception, so they need to look at how the wi-fi and connectivity can be better.

The front desk staff were excellent - very helpful and keen to look after guests in every way. Requested a firm pillow as those provided are soft, but numerous. They didn't have any, but tried to put something together using sofa cushions. The staff were excellent.

The hotel is literally in the middle of the Royal Mile, so if you're wanting to be in that area of Edinburgh it's perfectly located.

The location is brilliant for exploring Edinburgh - I couldn't recommend more.

Check in was seamless, our suite was immaculate, fully equipped and with a perfect city view.
Having visited before, the standard has not altered at all. Staff polite, accommodating and friendly. Old Chambers is an ideal, luxurious venue to stay - ideally situated to visit all Edinburgh has to offer; most is walkable except for The Royal Yacht Britannia which is easily accessible by the super efficient trams that operate around the city.

The hotel is very central to walk to all the tourist attractions.

I've traveled all around the world and stayed in all kinds of hotels. This one was one of the worst stays I've ever had. The room was nice and location was convenient however everything in the room was broken. We had to call 3 times to fix the washing machine, the dishwasher was also not working along with the safe needing new batteries. (That was the only easy fix). The heat wasn't working when we got there and it took over 7 hours and multiple people to get it going. It's winter and it was cold!!! Never once did i get an apology for all of the inconveniences. I asked to speak to a manager and they wouldn't even have one call me. The walls are paper thin here so if you like staying up until 3 am when the shouting from the street stops, then you will enjoy this place. I wouldn't recommend this place to my enemy.

We loved our stay at The Old Town Chambers in Edinburgh. Centrally located on the Royal Mile, it's directly across from the beautiful St. Giles Cathedral. Superb for sightseeing and walking!

Housekeeping serviced the room every day. It was clean and bright (with three huge windows)! The furnishings, and kitchenette amenities made it very comfortable, and relaxing, and a nice place to “come home” to, after a long day of walking and exploring. It wasn’t the usual soulless hotel room, which we really appreciated!

The one thing I would caution against, is using the washer/dryer combo, especially if you’re short on time! It took 3-4 hours to do a small load of laundry! Someone from the front desk came up to help us, as we thought we might be doing something wrong. After looking at it, and fiddling with the buttons, the kind gentleman told us that's how it is, unfortunately! It just takes a long time!

The hotel staff were always very friendly and helpful. They even offered us umbrellas one rainy morning, as we were heading out for the day! Oh, and the hotel does have an elevator! Such a wonderful sight, when your feet are burning from walking up and down what seems like10,000 steps! 😊

We loved Edinburgh, and The Old Town Chambers, and would highly recommend this hotel. We’d very happily stay here again!

The stay started out wonderfully and ended in disappointment. My daughter got very sick and we called the front desk asking for any extra time re checkout. The desk clerk was not interested in helping us in any way. Curt and not kind. . I’ve never experienced that with an Autograph Collection hotel. No attempt was made to help us. Very disappointed and will never stay here again. Basically, soured the whole experience. I would give 2 stars if I hadn’t experienced the welcoming crew when we checked in and the next evening. The afternoon/evening crew had been terrific - Daniel (excellent representative of your establishment), housekeeping for room 307, Stefano,Wally and Oliver. These gentlemen are 5 star. Whoever it was at the front desk who took the call from room 307 in the 0900-1000 hour on Sunday, December 14 2025 asking for a bit of checkout reprieve was able to convey no concern for the guests.

Our TV never worked. We repeatedly asked the front desk staff and were told that maintenance would stop by. They never did. Also, we asked several times for help with the washer/dryer combo unit but inquiry was met with confusion as to the \"brand\" by hotel staff. Room was ok, but not worth the price.

For a five star hotel, some glaring issues made it hard to enjoy our stay. Our room was located in a maze of hallways that was very hard to navigate, there isn’t a single drawer or shelf to put clothes on, the thermostat is very unintuitive and when we tried to turn the temperature down, it went further up, the bathroom door is a barn door that doesn’t seal, and some features like the towel heater weren’t working. There’s also no phone in the room to call the front desk, which is very strange. After calling through whatsapp, the staff came to help us with the thermostat, which was nice, but the inconveniences after a long day of walking the city were frustrating. On our last night, we didn't have any hot water to take showers. Not what I expected from this type of hotel.

We initially were staying in the back apartments but we needed to move due to no air movement-air conditioning so we were moved to the main building and the unit was great though noisy. It was better by late night. Love the washer and dryer to freshen up clothing. Great location in the center of the Royal mile. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Go eat elsewhere on the Royal mile. Food there is ridiculously expensive for no reason.

Very thankful to have gotten such a nice room despite the last minute booking during such a busy festival time. The weather was hot while we were there but we would go back to our hotel room every couple of hours to cool off and take a break from the heat. We set our thermostat to 62 degrees C which felt like heaven after hot sweaty days walking. Our room was cleaned, beds made, clean towels provided each day. And the employees were very helpful.

Wow! We were impressed with this property - directly across the street from St Giles Cathedral, so it is central to everything in Edinburgh. The breakfast and dinners were absolutely wonderful. Our room was set back from the Main Street - divided by a little courtyard between the street-facing building and our apartment building - so it was incredibly quiet, even during the Fringe Fest. Amenities were great. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here -

Overall a nice room. Lovely linens and a comfortable bed. The nespresso machine was nice to have too. On the down side the TV didn’t work which was annoying - we didn’t want to call someone to fix it when we tried turning it on at midnight, too late for the hassle. In addition to that the pressure in the shower was so low it was barely usable. Not really ok for £400 a night.

Location and staff were great. Bar and restaurant were both good and cafe with outdoor seating on High street, Royal Mile.
Room had a Washer/dryer combo plus a kitchen. Room coffee was decent and there was an unopened container of milk in the small fridge. Walk in shower with high shower head i easily fit under without ducking down. I would definitely stay there again.

Charming hotel- Just bring earplugs and a fan!

Perfect place to stay for a first time visit to Edinburgh!! Great location! Our one bedroom apartment was well decorated, very clean and comfortable. Having a kitchen and a washer/dryer were great. The only drawback was the lack of a standing or ceiling fan or the ability to open the windows to our room. It was quite warm. A ceiling fan would be a good option in the warmer months given no A/C. Our room was on the -1 level and looked out directly onto a stairway/alleyway pedestrian path that was VERY well traveled especially at night and into the early morning. It was quite noisy- even with the windows closed-- I would definitely stay here again but would request a quieter room/apartment.

Fantastic room, but the voices from the Close are a bit amplified - probably not the best room for light sleepers.

A wonderful experience.

An amazing location on the Royal Mile right across the street from St. Giles Cathedral. Our room was not in the main building, but was down a Close, through a gate and up 2 flights of stairs. No elevator. The staff carried our bags up to and from the room, so no problem there. Very comfortable in all aspects. A washing/dryer combination machine was a big help, although cycle took over 4 hours. We didn't use the kitchen, but it was nice to have. Included breakfast choices were excellent as was the food. All of the staff were friendly and extremely helpful when needed. When we next visit Edinburgh, we will stay there again.

The hotel location was amazing. Great staff and amazing check in! Cannot recall his name but he was great. The restaurant however wa aa bit of a disappointment. The food was not good at all and I even told the waiter the steaks were not good as very rough and I didn’t even eat mine. Nothing changed. No credit or offer for something else.

Great location, and generally a great hotel. The cleaning/maid was awful and skipped my room multiple times. Was also hard to get a hold of the front desk, they were not there for a while one night when i was trying to buy a snack, and you don't have a phone in your room. The light switches are very annoying also, but overall a decent value. The front desk staff was great when you did get their attention.

We liked this hotel very much. It was comfortable and had a great location in the center of a lot of attractions in Old town. It was convenient to shop then drop your purchases in the room and not have to carry them around. The two tours we took met right outside the hotel. Could go back to our room to use the toilet and never had to use the public toilets. Breakfast was very good with lots of options. The recommended parking was ½ mile away and up hill on arrival, we were fine but it could be challenging for some I suspect. Although we did see one family pull their car up to unload luggage then go park their car. It was a fantastic stay and would recommend this location/hotel.

We enjoyed the property and the surrounding areas immensely. You cannot put a price on the historical nature of the building. That, however, was a bit of a curse as the bedroom’s windows faced the Close and people were loud and kept us up all night. The windows need more soundproofing. We were also disappointed that the breakfast did not contain an Asian dish for breakfast given how many Asian and South Asian guests were staying at the hotel. Only other complaint is we wished the bathroom power switches were broken up so you could turn on the lights in the toilet area without needing to fire up the whole system in the middle of the night.

Amazing location tucked right in the middle of the Royal Mile! Brenda at the front desk was so sweet & helpful. The 2 bedroom apartment is in an older building, but the hotel did a great job renovating it. The common area is large & spacious. It overlooks the Edinburgh train station & Scott Monument. Unfortunately, there is no air conditioning in this unit and it was kind of loud sleeping with the windows open. I didn’t realize until the day we checked out that there are black out pull down shades in the primary bedroom with en-suite bathroom. If you are looking to book, please note that in the middle of our stay, the hotel changed from Cheval to Marriott. Also, if you’d like to eat at the very trendy & popular restaurant next door, Devil’s Advocate, make reservations WAY in advance.
