The Inn on The Mile located on The Royal Mile in the heart of the city centre, offers an alternative boutique and luxury hotel experience in one of Edinburgh's most prestigious historic landmarks. Built in 1923 as the British Linen Bank, we have preserved, conserved and renovated our historical building into a place where you feel at home.
Fully refurbished in 2013. A full Scottish and continental-style breakfast is served within The Inn on The Mile pub on the Royal Mile.
Rooms at the hotel are situated across three floors and accessed by stairs only. If you require a lower floor please contact us directly in advance of your stay on 0131 556 9940.

It was a very nice boutique hotel. The food was quite nice and staff very accommodating. The hike up the 3 floors was something we had to get prepared to do each day! Only 3 rooms all the way up there, 2 other floors with 3 each so you can request a lower floor.

The room was spacious including most amenities needed. The breakfast is not a buffet style, but has very good selections and they are delicious. Most nights, the pub has live music, which is a plus. From the room, the view of the city is beautiful, and the hotel is perfectly located; walking distance to major tourist attractions and many restaurants with a variety of cuisines are all at walking distance. Also, there are a few supermarkets and convenient stores (open 24 hours) a few feet away, which is great for travelers.

We didn't know there would be live music downstairs until 11:30pm, preventing us from getting a good night's sleep on a Friday. Not sure if this is an issue weekday nights- ask the property. Too bad, since room was large, modern, and clean. Had a Nepresso as well as the usual tea kettle, etc., which was nice. Our room had the water closet (toilet) separate from the shower/tub which was nice, but neither had an exhaust fan. There is no lift, but the staff will help bring luggage upstairs. Food in the bar was convenient, fairly priced for being on The Mile, and was good (not great, but good).

We loved being on The Mile at The Mile Inn. It was a hopping part of town, but quieted down my 10pm. My husband is vegetarian, and they had ALOT of options on their menu. We loved sitting outside in the front, and the night time bar crew was great.

My window looked out on a vista of Edinburgh but the room was amazingly quiet given the Fringe Festival taking place out on the street.
Restaurant on ground floor had breakfast and pub drinks and food, with live guitar music in the evenings. I was out all day everyday with friends at the Festival and came back quite late in the evenings. Key card got me in if staff was not still there. And no worries at all about safety.
The only drawback was no lift and these old homes had hugely high ceilings, meaning that the climb up to my room was long. So, this would not work for people with disabilities, but the whole city of Edinburgh is FULL of steps and hills, so not a wise choice to visit for people who cannot climb up and down.

Nice exclusive room in a 9 room boutique hotel. The staff could accommodate our needs (early check in, help with luggage). Located on the main tourist street of Edinburgh. Most attractions are accessible by foot. Rooms are on 3 floors above street level. No elevator (could be problematic for some customers; just be aware of that). Bar-restaurant with singer on site. Highly recommended.

The inn is beautiful and quiet despite being right in the middle of the Royal Mile historic district. That alone would have been worth five stars, but on the morning of check-out, my wife wasn’t feeling well, and while the inn was fully committed, Jayne at the front desk arranged for us to stay in the room as long as possible, connected us with a sister hotel for an early check-in, and assisted us with our bags. This was our first international trip, and we were so appreciative of Jayne’s kindness and dedication to great service. We can’t recommend this stay enough!

Anything you need they were there to please even taking your luggage up stairs for you and only 9 rooms! Loved this central right on the Royal Mile location is prime!!

The Inn in the Mile is the perfect location, next to a taxi hub, and located at the half point on the Mile. Very clean, the food was great, all was comfortable, and our every need was met by friendly and professional staff. Highly recommend the breakfast package to start your day with no fuss and delicious a la carte menu to order from. Stephen was especially kind and accommodating, and made our stay an absolute pleasure, along with the rest of the staff. If I visit Edinburgh again, and I will as it is a beautiful city, I will absolutely stay here again! Superb!

Disappointing
A small room with a bed that is far to big for that room....No central heating and run out of hot water when in the shower. Shower extract fan is in need of cleaning as is the toilet brush which is stinking. Windows are desperately need sortiing ....overall disappointing for the money but that is typical of these so called premium hotels...all looks good but the smaller details are overlooked and la k attention.

This is a unique hotel in a fabulous location. However it is three rooms to a floor and has nine floors but NO elevator!!! We were assigned a room on the 9th floor! However the bar staff assisted us with all our luggage.

Great location right in the center of the action on the Royal Mile. Somehow, it was very quiet overnight! Beautiful old building that looks like it was a bank at one time. Good restaurant on the first floor, had a good breakfast, afternoon snack/ drinks, live music in the evenings til 10:30. Room was very comfortable, a tad small, spacious bathroom with good shower and heated towel rack. Staff was helpful and took our bags upstairs. One caveat, there are no elevators, so you may be walking up 2 or 3 floors to get to your room.

Truly one-of-a-kind lodging. We walked the short distance to the Inn on the Mile from the train station, checked our bags, and enjoyed a delicious lunch downstairs before heading up to our room for a respite from the busy Fringe streets. Our room was cozy, but luxurious and comfortable, and a great central location for exploring everything that Edinburgh's Old Town has to offer. Highly recommended.

My stay at the Inn on the Mile was one of the best that I could ask for. All of the staff was super helpful, the food was brilliant and best of all I felt safe as a single woman traveling alone to be able to have a drink or two and then go up to my room. The only thing I would note is there is no elevator so you will get a great stair workout!

Monica was so helpful when we checked in after a long travel day and took great care of us when we had breakfast and checked out. The beds were so comfortable, the bathroom felt like a spa and having a drink and dinner right downstairs was a bonus. Lovely place. The bar below is beautifully decorated, as are the bedrooms. We did have a few issues while staying. We paid for the larger executive room but were put in the much smaller basic. This was resolved at checkout by removing a drink that we had had and giving us 30% off a future meal. Also, there was live music in the bar and we were in the room directly above. Even though we werent in the bar, we felt like we were. So if you stay, you might want to go another floor up. And lastly, even though we had paid for our room and breakfast prior to staying, we were charged a second time on our credit card. We only noticed this on returning home. This was resolved after a few phone calls and an email.

This is a fabulous little boutique hotel/inn, the perfect choice for my second trip to Edinburgh. It is right in the middle of the Royal Mile, between Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace. Easily walkable to all central sights, and to numerous coffee shops, pubs, restaurants. Walkable to Festival Theatre and Edinburgh Playhouse also. The pub attached to the Inn is perfect - great ambience (live music at night) and very good food! Room was lovely and very clean. Great shower and large soaking tub. Only caution is steep stairs to get to rooms - not for anyone with mobility issues or lots of heavy luggage. But perfect choice otherwise - I will definitely stay again.

Booked a 2 night stay and wouldn't go back. On arriving , trying to check in, was advised that the mansger would be 5/10 minutes so had to stand and wait to get checked in. Room very nice. Had paid for breakfast for both mornings. Went down on 1st morning for breakfast at 10am only to be told that there was no chef so couldn't get breakfast at hotel but could walk down to the Scotsman Hotel and they would provide us with breakfast. Was then advised from the General Manager that sometimes they don't do breakfast at hotel and you would have to walk to Scotsman Hotel to get this. No where on website does it state this.

The check in was ok although the desk was very small. Very short staffed. Tyler was amazing. There is no lift in the hotel so we had to carry our bags all way to our room 9 on the top floor. The window was broken so there was temporary fix however the wind howled throughout the night. We were given a bottle of Prosecco which was a nice touch. Room was clean and spacious. Breakfast was lovely. The stairway was dirty and dirty laundry was left.
