Staying in a traditional hut, no aircon but the windows and fan did an amazing job, they supplied all things for bug from spray, mozzie candle to net over the bed. The staff there is amazing! Isabella and her team are wonderful and so friendly to ask any questions! Definitely take part their cultural dinner night where you try kava that is really nice! Fire night friday and you can have a walking tour Monday or Friday. I can’t explain how amazing this place is and I can’t wait to go back!

We stayed just recently in mid January 2026. Breakas is a gorgeous place to stay in Vanuatu! It’s my pick over the bigger resorts such as Warwick on the Lagoon, here are a few reasons why.

Beach access - our villa was right on the beach, you could hear the waves at night and the children playing in the ocean each morning.
The other villas are a short 1min stroll through the sand to the beach. Yes Warwick has lagoon access too, via a ramp, platform and more man made like environments.
It’s also very hard to swim off Warwick and into the lagoon at low tide. At Breakas the sand your toes go nto when you step out of your villa, is the sand that leads to the beach.
Due to the location of the beach, locals come to swim, fish & surf regularly, which is nice to have a chat and swim together.
The resort created a relaxed holiday vibe every day, without the stuffy hotel vibes.
The food is great! Yummy prawns, squid, burgers, wraps, pizza and salads poolside. Delicious local steaks, pastas, seafood and chicken dishes on the dinner menu.

If you like a smaller resort with friendly staff that you come to know by name, it’s the resort for you. They will help you get a local bus out the front, organise a driver for the day and quickly deliver room service.
Nothing was ever a problem. We got an extra fan for our room.
We also stayed 1.5 hours over our check out time as my partner wasn’t feeling well. Nothing was an issue.

There was so much to like about this resort yet it still fell short in so many ways.
Staff were mostly uninterested and unwelcoming (the security guy and head chef were exceptions)
Rooms were very loud (you hear everything your neighbour says, dogs barking in the village, music etc)
The biggest negative for me though was the fact that the resort seems to prioritize outside guest of those paying to stay there, every day they would bring their restaurant out to the pool area so you couldn't use the pool (right at sunset when you would want to have a beer in it). Day guests were often at the resort, taking up the already extremely limited space to lay by the pool or beach. On one occasion there was a large group of very drunk locals drinking and smoking at breakfast making it rater uncomfortable (does the bar need to sell drinks at 7am? let alone to people not even staying there!).
The kicker for me was people being told to leave the bar and common areas on new years unless they had paid, this was atrocious behaviour the likes of which I have never seen anywhere else and Breakas should be ashamed of this.
The resort was not without its good points of course.

Amazing location - snorkel right out front and a great pool overlooking the water.
Room - very comfortable bed and clean nice looking room with great little deck.
Gear provided - kayaks, snorkels and paddleboards.

The customer service was sub-standard. We, and other guests, were told on New Year’s Eve we had to stay at our villas because we hadn’t paid for the NYE buffet. It was really expensive and I don’t like buffets, so ate elsewhere and was going to join the festivities later (as well as buy drinks!) but wasn’t allowed. For the rest of my stay in Vanuatu I ate at other places. Breakas Resort got nothing from me after that experience. There were also issues with ‘locals’ entering our villas via the outdoor showers to try to break into our rooms, so we were vigilant to keep everything locked in the safe! The housekeeping lady and some of the wait staff were excellent but a lot didn’t seem to want to be there and wait on people. The manager was arrogant and didn’t ask if I enjoyed my stay when I checked out (he knew several people were unhappy with the treatment on NYE). I wouldn’t stay at Breakas Resort again.

Minus point for the staff at the reception, no accountability, they were too lazy to work. Expedia should not have this property as VIP access hotel because we felt misguided by Expedia. I do not recommend this hotel, it’s a motel stay with premium price. There are other nicer hotel in the area.

I went here as a solo female traveler and felt very safe and well looked after. The rooms are beautiful and secluded. The private beach was lovely to swim in as was the pool. Area is walkable to a few restaurants and it was very easy to get transport.

Amazing location and loved being able to use reef shoes, kayaks and snorkelling equipment. I found the staff lovely but a little disappointing that once I had enquired or asked them to do something they never followed up with me. This was in regards to a dress I had left behind on a tour and about the accommodation package. All in all I would recommend but cannot give 5 stars.

Excellent resort in Vanuatu. We stayed in a garden villa and the rooms were nice without the high standard 5 star rooms in other parts of the world. Vanuatu in general is less developed and thrives on its traditional life. Don’t except all the trimmings that come with other resort in other parts.

Not far from central Port Vila. There is a grocery store opposite the entry and you can get drivers easily into town. Public buses come through regularly for cheap trips.

Island life rules in Vanuatu and service is very good but it is slow. Take in the atmosphere and enjoy not being in a rush. It is what Vanuatu is all about.

Breakfast is more than adequate and food off the menu is very good.

The pool is not heated and provides a shock when you first get in, but is of good temperature once you are in and adjust.

Prices are not cheap, but either is Vanuatu. Pay cash as they hit you with fees.

Way overrated considering other options like Thailand and Fiji. Very expensive food. No wifi in rooms, only wifi around the lobby. Access to rooms is via paths of sand so wheelie bags have to be carried by porter or lifted from the ground yourself. The room is a great size and charming with mosquito net over the bed which is comfortable, and bathroom open to the elements... if you have a shower when it is raining you get wet before you turn on the shower. Controlling hot water temperature is fiddly but the water pressure is good. Full of bugs so an ecological experience. The included breakfast buffet is adequate... cereal, bread, fruit (surprisingly no bananas or papaya today but apparently they ran out by 8am), pastries, cake, coffee, tea. And you can order bacon and eggs at an extra charge. The staff are friendly and warm and in the most part really try, and are lovely but sometimes inefficient... forgetting orders, slow in replenishing empty bowls, resetting tables once people have finished, organising airport shuttles. The beach looks nice but lots of rocks and broken coral on the shore so painful walking without reef shoes (a must!). You can easily catch a mini bus to Port Vila CBD for 150 vatu each way. Knowing that Covid has struck hard, with a cyclone and earthquake to boot, it's hard not to feel sorry for the locals and it feels good helping out by being part of the tourism boost so desperately needed. Probably wouldn't visit again but glad I did.

Such a great spot for spending a few days in Vanuatu. The beachfront Fare was everything we could have wanted, loved stepping straight out onto the sand before diving into clear warm water and exploring all the coral and fish on the reef. And going to sleep to the sound of waves was very soothing. We also loved the outdoor shower. Staff were very friendly and dining and bar options at the hotel, as well as in local area were great.

Positives:
Adults only - we like children, but heyy, can be nice to get away from them!
Good, simple, accommodation right on the beach. Great views.
Set in well maintained, beautiful tropical gardens.
VERY friendly, helpful staff.
Great, well maintained pool.
Good bar. Good clean recliners and umbrellas.
Probably some of the best evening meals on the island (Italian chef).
Easy to get into town, minivan buses passing the entrance every few minutes. Cost 150 vatu per person ($2 AUD).
Very friendly locals - no feeling of being threatened or being resented as tourists.
Negatives:
None really. The beach is not really suited to poor swimmers because of the current, but there are plenty of other places close by.

Nice location and good accommodation, clean and pleasant. We were lucky to be there when it was very quiet, so everything was easy, and we got anything we needed quite quickly.
Breakfast is limited and very carb/sweet heavy.
The dinner menu is quite small, but the food was pretty good.
Wine, beer and food is priced similarly to Sydney, and seemed a bit expensive for the quality.
Most of the staff were pleasant and helpful, although a couple seemed to be there on sufference. One waitress was almost asleep and had no interest in serving us or our comments.
Cindy, the maitre'd was very helpful and so was Silas one of the security staff.
Overall a pleasant experience.
We got it on a special deal with jetstar flights and at the price we paid it was an acceptable deal.

We made a spur of the moment decision to travel to Vanuatu for our 24th wedding anniversary. We stayed at Breakas for 4 nights and it was pure heaven and indulgence. We were given a beachfront bungalow that couldn’t get any closer to the water. It was perfection itself! The service is so good, everyone is friendly and kind. The breakfast was beautiful - so much lovely fruit and those pancakes are divine! The infinity pool, crystal clear ocean, friendly local sea turtle just added to the magic - oh and the Friday night fire show!

We stayed 5 nights, a room that was very close to the road. At night you heard people parting from the local kava bar across the road and a small business grinding and hammering till after midnight every night. We woke most mornings at 5am as the staff used a leaf rake on the paths around the room and talked loudly. The bathroom had green mould on shower walls. The bed was constantly covered in ants. We had to spray bug spray on the bed every night and clean ants off before sleeping. The mossie net does protect you from the gecko poo landing on you while sleeping.
The breakfast was average. Dinner was good but expensive. The place is tired and needs a facelift. The wait staff are lovely. Was easy to get taxi and tours from just outside the gates. We stayed at another place too which was much nicer. We won’t stay here again.

Beautiful scenery, quiet and peaceful, staff very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately because it was still off season all the entertainment was cancelled which was disappointing, also the system of putting any meals and drinks on a room tab was not a good system, some where along the way we were charged more than we spent, we kept a record for ourselves on a daily basis so were aware of what we had spent on food and drink by the end of our stay. In fact, another guest had put down our room number for at least one of his meals, it was a genuine mistake on his part but the hotel staff didn’t pick up on the mistake until we queried our final bill and they had to look through all the receipts they had kept to verify this charge. Like I said we were not happy with this charge system and would highly recommend that during your stay you check your ongoing balance daily so you can keep track for when you get your final balance.

Lovely room, pool and dining/bar area - beautiful setting. Food okay. Nice spot to relax. Wifi not good - fine if you’re having a relaxing stay but not if you need to do any work.

Breakas continues to impress Lovely bures in a lovely garden setting right by a nice scenic beach It has a wonderful pool right next to the beach as well The staff are some of the friendliest in Vanuatu (which is renowned for their friendly people ) and last but certainly not least the Head Chef Paulo and his team serve some of the best food you will currently find in Vanuatu with a great menu( mouth watering steaks) , nightly specials and great pizzas I really recommend Breakas as one of the top places to stay on Efate Vanuatu

Nice spot but to pay that much money for open air rooms, no wifi and no aircon is just terrible, the breakfast is way to basic compaired to where else we stayed its pretty much toast and juice and to get charged a $70 hotel fee when paying just to use a travel card was disgusting(3 other hotels in vanuatu didnt charge this)
