Mariner Apartments were excellent in every way - the staff were friendly and so helpful, and nothing was too much to ask. The location was ideal, in the heart of Port Vila and so close to bars, restaurants, grocery stores, etc. and we were able to park our hire vehicle onsite with ease. The addition of washer and dryer was greatly appreciated, but all of the amenities and inclusions were great. Thank you to Elliot and his team at Mariner Apartments - we will be back!

Definitely stay there, it’s great.

I would 100% go back and stay there again. It was nice to have a place that was so friendly, clean, comfortable and central. It was also nice to know that Elliot was willing to help us out on the island even when we had left his hotel. We spent 4 nights there and it was incredible. We could walk into town, it was quiet in the room, air con was on when we arrived and the wifi there is actually good. Then when we left at 4:30am to head to the airport Elliot surprised us there with breakfast and juice because he knew everything was shut and we’d be hungry. What an absolute legend.

This property only has a pool and no any other facilities.
There is no convenient near by beach.
I would recommend people to spend a bit extra money and go to a place where swimming and snorkeling is available.

Really enjoyed our stay here. Super close to town, so walking to tourist shopping or grocery shopping is only minutes away. Great views over the Water Front to Iririki Island. Self contained accommodation with separate bedrooms was great and had everything required to look after yourself if that's what you want. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Close to town, two bedrooms easy parking, rate for the amount of people we were was reasonable. The local staff were very nice and helpful but challenged by the issues we faced.
Misleading about the internet which was a huge problem and it’s obvious that it was an ongoing matter. Even when I spoke to the owner about it he started to argue trying to blame the local IT guys for being slack. We asked for a router to be installed but still didn’t entirely fix the issue. So couldn’t really do my work but the rudeness of the owner was not worth the hassle to bring this up again.
Has to remind the staff to clean the shower and toilets. The whole week none of the empty toiletries were thrown out from the bathroom!
The location is great and the property needs some maintenance but is still worth the stay for the $$$$

The apartment is located in front of the main road, it's quite noise.

There were couples of big flying and crawling cockroaches outside of room at night, one was even flying into bedroom. They should do insecticide work.

On the bright side, the apartment is quite spacious and have a nice sea view.

Spacious apartment with everything you’ll need

We stayed at Mariner appartments for three nights. Our apartment was huge! with a decent sized kitchen (fully equipped), lounge room and two double bedrooms, aircon in the lounge and a unit in each bedroom, excellent wifi. The view from the balcony was beautiful. Good distance from town as well. Our security guard was very friendly and helpful too.

Great location, & very spacious. Staff were friendly & helpful. Loved the balcony & didn't mind the traffic. Unfortunately the rooms & amenities were not good. Needed a really good clean. We planned to use full kitchen to eat in, but didn't cook at all due to lack of upkeep. Microwave plate still had leftover food on it. Floors & bathroom were very dirty. Shame as we did like the location.

Value for money pending further improvement

Location is convenience to shops & restaurant. Water / distant views from balcony. Unit is spacious and airy with sun drenched. Caretakers and reception is attentive with good customer service.
Few faculties need maintenance / repair / upgrade, which include air conditioning, lighting, Wifi connection & cable TV program, etc. Limited parking for residents.

These apartments were in a central location however also very close to the road making them reasonabley loud even with the doors closed. Apartments were suitable for all your cooking needs and well priced - for a 3 star option. Recommendation is to ask for a unit on the second floor to assist with noise and increase your security if you want to leave your screen door open!

ideal for what we wanted two bedroom unit, it had everything we needed inc full air con, close to everything (port villa is not large) clean and tidy solid beds, we arrived midnight ish and was met by the security man with the keys friendly staff we would stay again

Place is central to the business and shops in Port Vila. Apartments are well sized , however amenities are in average condition. Some apartments are better than others with renovation work going on. If you manage to get a good condition apartment on the first floor, then it is value for money. Do check on the condition of the rooms with the staff, if possible after reservation and get an assurance on the condition of the apartment allocated for the stay

Pros: bed was nice, view was great, staff were kind
Cons: blocked plumbing, air conditioner not working, mould+bad smell in the bathroom (likely due to the blocked plumbing), no wifi password

Unfortunately we checked in briefly at 2pm, left for the day then came back in the evening to find all the problems and without anyone at reception after 5pm couldn't organise to change rooms or anything

Hopefully the other apartments are nicer

Mariner Apartments is in a good position.

This was my second stay at Mariner Apartments.All rooms have views over the water to Iririki island.If you are not into resorts,then this could be for you.The building is quite old and could do with with a refit.As usual,the staff are lovely.TIP.if you just wont somewhere to sleep,then the ground floor studio apartment is for you.If you plan to spend some time in you apartment,book one of 2 bed,ers,upstairs.They are big and spacious,with better views.
There is a pool,but remember,this is not a resort,and the price reflects accordingly. WILL BE BACK.

In desperate need of proper property maintenance

I'm sure the staff are doing their best to keep the place running, but we were extremely disheartened at the state of the room we were given, and the pool facility.

Without being harsh- the room we had must have belonged to a long-term resident smoker (based on the smell). There was paint peeling off the wall under the TV, everything was dirty - kitchen, bathroom, living area, floors, ceiling fan, doors... The bathroom was very grimy and all of the cabinetry was damaged, ill-fitting or simply dirty.

The towels and linen were stained and damaged. The dish-washing liquid was in a empty water bottle with a hole poked in the top.

The wooden railing around the pool has been recently repainted, but significant wood-rot is evident.

Not what you'd expect

Initial impression, nice room, but I soon found not everything is what it appears. No curtains on kitchen and bathroom windows (they're frosted). Bad because those windows are on the main walkway. Other guests can see your shadow at night as I saw another guest in the bathroom. Room is bright at night because of no curtains (outside light shines in). Shower had a rusted broken soap holder, which was sharp. If someone slipped against it they'd likely need a tetanus shot. Shower at 8:30 am, other guests had used all the hot water (only cold shower). Had to request clean bath towels after room service! Wifi was awful (speed, IF you had internet access) was .2-.4 Mbs (can you say s-l-o-w). But in all fairness, it's like that throughout Vanuatu (confirmed talking with locals and other tourists). My opinion, under-serviced, over rated, over priced.

Star rating very misleading. Bed was terrible. Pillows leaving you with sore neck. Cupboard doors wouldnt shut. 3 days for air cond to work. Only 3 channels out of 7 worked. No movie channel. Maintenance a big issue bathroom vanity tap needs replacing. knob keeps falling off. Guest laundry not available for use. Decking screws around pool rotted almost cut my toe open because they were pronounced. Wasnt worth what we paid.

Pleasant week in Port Vila

We enjoyed our stay and the location was very convenient being only 300 meters from town and the markets. The old style beds,were comfortable but very high off the ground and difficult for a short older adult to climb into. Everyone was very friendly and toting for business from the locals, whilst it occurred, was not really pushy. Buses and meals at the markets were very cheap.

The accommodation was conveniently located and we had lovely views.
The mattress was amazingly comfortable but the pillows were horrible.
The room was nicely furnished and had new appliances fridge, microwave, kettle & toaster.
The cooktop did not work however the oven did.
Air-conditioning and ceiling fan were great!
Staff were gorgeous.
The guide notes 7 TV channels and we only had 3 , you may think this is irrelevant when on holidays however we were there for the cyclone so we did spend a bit of time in our room.

Firstly the positive is that the location of these apartments is excellent. Very easy and relatively safe walk to Port Vila centre and activities.

Unfortunately my apartment was very poor in quality / furnishings. Kitchenette wasn't very good at all, cooking pots were terrible. Shower looked awful as did flooring and units etc. Towels and sheet were grey (should have been white!).

There was evidence of some apartments getting some renovations and the building exterior was being painted.

My pics say it all!

Huge apartment, well located for city amenities

We were given the Penthouse Apartment. It is huge. 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, large living, entry and kitchen/dining. Small balcony running the width of the apartment on the street side.
We used the bedroom at the rear of the apartment and found it quiet.
The ensuite is odd in that it only has a bathtub, no shower. There is a shower in the other bathroom but for couples sharing this could be an issue.
Furnishings show age and use marks and there is a patchy supply of cooking implements. A vast number of plates, not much cutlery. No salad bowls or platters but several crab-boil size pots. Only one frypan and that was aluminium, old and not up to much.
We were a little disappointed in the faded-glory look of the place on arrival but soon settled in and came to relish the space and comfort.
Staff are obliging once you can get them to understand what you are saying/asking. Bislama has different thought patterns to English and that creates many misunderstandings. Persevere, find different ways to say the same thing and you should eventually get there.

OK stay but not quite as good as last stay

We like this place but were a little disappointed; mostly little things that can be easily fixed. Wifi not as good most likely due to room location, not enough utensils in the kitchen, they changed the sheets each day (asked them not to) but not the towels. But the staff were friendly, we still love the location and overall the room was nice. Hopefully these little annoyances can be fixed for next time.

The hotel room we were in was in a poorly maintained state, shower, oven and some lights not working, we had to shower in a different room. both our beds were broken. BUT the hotel staff was very friendly and tried to come up with solutions and they made the stay tolerable, if not for them it would have been quite frustrating.

Great location close to town

We had a wonderful stay at the Mariner apartments. They were close to the supermarkets, town, restaurants etc..
Buses and taxis were easy to get as the apartments are situated on the main road, so beware there is some traffic noise.
The balcony was perfect for sunset cocktails. The facilities in the apartment were great, all that you could need and plenty of space.
The staff were helpful and friendly.
The pool is small and has no view, but great for the kids.

Four of us stayed 10 nights in these well-located, spacious apartments a few minutes walk from downtown Vila.
The staff were friendly and helpful to all requests and made our stay an enjoyable one. A small issue only was some maintenance needed attention, door handles not shutting properly, bathroom light blowing out several times, but these were mostly rectified during our stay and offset by the helpfulness of the staff onsite. I would stay again and will recommend to those I hear area holidaying in Port Vila

We knew we wouldn't have the facilities of a resort but thought that the pool area would have been a little more inviting to relax around.The room needs a few more things to make it easier to self cater but we managed to make do and the staff were very helpful with requests.

This was the second time we stayed at the hotel and would recommend it to anyone. The rooms are of a great standard, the staff super friendly and the views are fantastic across the water. The first time we stayed we had our kids in a 2 bedroom unit and loved that as well. Located just a short work to casino, restaurants, markets and shops. If you want quality, location and affordability give Mariner Apartments a go.

We stayed overnight in transit from Santo to Sydney, There was 3 adults staying in the two bedroom apartment. and another couple in one of the Motel/studio style rooms. Both apartments were well presented and clean with balcony's overlooking the main street and waterfront. Both apartment had a pretty well equipped kitchenette that was useful (unfortunately there was no coffee plunger though).
The only minor issue was the light in the bathroom was not working.
We did not swim but the pool looked a little \"Meh\" and uninviting (to be fair this was only a couple of weeks after cyclone Pam so we were more than happy to overlook any minor maintenance issues).
Overall the place was comfortable, well equipped, convenient and cheap.

Worst hotel - No TV, plenty insects/bugs....

We booked Marina Apartment (4 stars) for 7 nights, but you have to check in at Coconut Palm Resort first (3 stars, but actually it is more like backpackers or motel standard) then they will take you to Marina Apartment. I must mention that both places are owned by the same boss : 2 Australian brothers.

We checked in on 30/03/2015 at Coconut Palm Resort as website suggested. But we were forced to stay in Coconut Palm not Marina Apartment! Because they don't have a room for us in Marina Apartment although I booked and paid few weeks ago! The room is smelly due to lack of air follow and very very dark even when the lights on, no pool - it was under repair, no TV reception- means you can not watch TV at all time, electricity power was shut down completely for 15 mins one night, the ants are on the kitchen table and insects fly everywhere (we have to request a can of insects spray), the linens are rough, it is not made in cotton, no hand wash towels, no face wash towels, but they do give you 3 small soaps. Breakfast: pancake, baked beans, diluted orange juice, every day the same, no other choices.

One of the owner - Alex, promised us on the day we checked in that he would move us back to Marina Apartment asap. It never happened. We stuck in the backpack motel for 7 days. Marina & Coconut Palm are owned by the same owner so I don't believe the quality of the Marian will be any better.

My suggestion: DON'T GO THESE 2 PLACES!!!!

True 4+ stars, this is the real deal.

I have stayed at many 4+ stars in Port Vila and they all are wishful thinking except for this place. Everything is immaculate and in excellent maintained condition. My fussy wife has no complaints here which is a relief. I always stay here when in town.

OTHER 4 star venues around Port Vila are run down with things like frayed towels, AC that doesn't work and sub standard. I will never stay anywhere else but Mariner Apartments from now on.

Second time just as good!

I\"ve already given the full review, but want to say that following my trip to the outer islands I stayed here again on the way back with the same impression. This property is a great value and in an ideal location if you want to be centrally located in Port Vila. ...and a reminder, just tell the staff to turn up the temperature on the water heater when you check-in :-)
