Hotel and staff were fab, our only issue was the pool was out of action for maintenance. I know this needs to be done but when a main part of your holiday plans was to laze around a pool it did put a dampener on things. You could go over to Iririki Island to have a swim in the pool but at $25 per person it’s not feasible for the duration of the holiday.
Vouchers should have been offered, or at least an email explaining and giving the option to rebook somewhere else.

The Hotel and location are great, our issue was that next door to the hotel is a shipping dock and a shipyard, a barge was continuously running a bilge pump, and the ship yard continuously banging on the hull renovating an old ship, in turn very noisy during the day and night especially if out on the balcony.

This is a perfect spot to stay in the heart of Vila. Close to the markets and an easy walk to all that Vila has to offer. The pool and pool area are a great place to relax with a cold tusker. Like all places in Vanuatu, the staff is what makes the stay special. Everyone goes above and beyond to ensure your stay is enjoyable. The food at the restaurant was also fantastic. Overall I would recommend if you want to stay in the heart of Vila.

We have stayed at the grand on several occasions.Imagine our surprise when we walked into our room to find we had nothing to put our clothes in. On previous visits they had storage space ie a dresser with the tv on top ,This time tv on the wall no storage.In the managements wisdom they supply one luggage rack we had two suitcases and had to request another rack.We spent our week living out of a suitcase I can only hope the hotel is awaiting delivery of suitable storage furniture.Some additional irritants a casino filled with noxious cigarette smoke and a problem with water supply. Outlook disappointed has been much better in the past.

Everything inside the property was excellent. Although parts of the the facility are currently under renovation, there was no inconvenience to guests. The staff were very friendly and professional and even helped us with a taxi driver who over charged our group. Sadly the area outside the facility has the same problem with the rest of Port Vila roads....in need of major overhaul & repairs.

The first impression from the outside is dreadful, dirty and run down, we sat in the taxi and our jaws dropped.Go inside and the reception area is rather underwhelming, then the cigarette smoke hits you and the poor condition inside. The smoke smell is everywhere, comes out of the casino and goes up the stairs, we were on the second floor and could smell it as soon as we opened our door, the foyer area stunk, and it flowed into the dining area. The No smoking non vaping signs outside the front door ignored and the hotel does nothing about it, people smoke and vape in the pool area and on the outside bar area. This place would be great if you like the stench of old smoke and don't mind smoke drifting into your personal space, the smell goes through at least the first 2 floors, we never went any higher, the lifts also stunk of what I don't know, but they were rather putrid. We had a panorama room, room size was good and fittings pretty good, the view is amazing. The pool area really has no shade so not an area you can spend much time in, even if you don't mind other people's smoke. The breakfast was ok, nothing special but did the job. The Alacarte menu, is rather hit and miss, did not have a decent meal there, except for fish and chips. Staff were very friendly and helpful cannot fault them; it is also a good position.

The grout on the floor in the foyer area and dining area is absolutely filthy, needs a thorough refurb downstairs. All rooms have a view, Avoid first floor !!

The fridge door was broken, bathroom door can’t close, no shower cap! Shampoo and conditioner need to call room service to obtain and buffet was prepaid upon booking but the hotel still charged us until we complained to the management, the next day, they charged us for 2 coffees!

After every shower the bathroom floor flooded and was very slippery and dangerous. Asked for pool towels but none available, had to ask each day for in room towels the colour was meant to be white but they were brown and thin. Terrible sewerage smell around pool and outside dining. All out side chairs had holes and uncomfortable to sit. Overall building and contents very old and well passed its use by date. Cannot swim in the pool because over chlorinate burn skin and eyes.

Although Vanuatu has just opened up to tourism, the grand really needs a makeover, it looks tired and needs modernisation, the carpets in the hallways definitely need a good clean, repairs needed to be done in the lifts, (broken light covers), it just needs to be brought up to a good standard of a 4 star hotel…. Cannot fault the friendliness of the staff

Great comfortable bed and pillows!! Gorgeous views!! Professional, friendly, helpful staff!! Food was good and good selection - buffet breakfast every day was mostly the same items - could have shaked that up a bit and had a few different rotational menus for buffet breakfast.

Smoking in the casino - TERRIBLE causing me to come home with upper respiratory infection (and gave me nausea for a day or more!!). Need better ventilation system to get that terrible smoke filtered out so it doesn't impact on staff and patrons. Maybe some windows high up in the room can be opened to let smoke out. Heard many guests there complaining of the smoke - I would have spent more time gambling in the casino if the conditions were more favourable i.e no smoke or thick smoke.
I would definitely go back but will not be using the casino unless the conditions are more healthy for guests and staff.

Location is good and this was our fourth stay here and our seventh Island visit but overall the Vila experience has got worse over the years. This is not isolated to one hotel. In general the standards have dropped everywhere.
The Grand, being a more established hotel, needs to reestablish itself and update its decor.
Smells around the pool area are getting worse, drinks overrated and expensive, 5000vt for a shot of standard Hennessy Cognac? Out of basic drink ingredients, not enough pool towels. Menus need refreshing and found a screw in my breakfast.

Everything ok as such however extensive Smoking Smell through out the Hotel and Rooms is quite unhealthy and unpleasant. Hotel AC Filtering system doesn’t seem to be very effective as it mixes the Smoke from Casino, being part of the Hotel Ground Floor to the rest of the Hotel, where people are allowed to smoke Freely. Also, the Smoke is not contained within the casino area and it flows into Hotel Lobby, lifts etc

Having said that they did upgraded to a better room on higher floor when it was brought to their attention but it didn’t quite fixed the problem.

Car parking facilities for guests needs to be addressed urgently. Its a good reason to not use this property. The property needs to accept American Express cards. This presents as an international hotel but fails to provide full international payment facilities. Other comparable properties in Port Vila accept all international credit cards. This one must also.

Property is a little dated for my taste.
The Staff were fantastic Always with a that beautiful pacific smile. Nothing was too much trouble.
Maybe throw some more $$$ on maintenance for things like balcony doors.
