We were only here for a night, so probably can’t give the most well-rounded review. In summary, it was fine. The staff were really friendly and super helpful. The room and general building was fine, clean, but generally looking a bit tired. This could be partly due to nearby construction and a significant earthquake last year. The AC worked really well, however the water supply cut out for a period early in the morning.

There was no fresh milk in the fridge for a cup of tea but when I asked for some it was brought to me by a young man who went to some trouble to get it.

Everything worked like clockwork. We left some of our luggage 1 week ahead of our stay as we were flying to other islands and there were restrictions on the amount of luggage. The Melanesian hotel allowed us to store our luggage until our arrival! That’s great customer service. The room was clean, large, and comfortable!

The stay at Melanesian was average this time around. There was issues with bed bugs in my room. The hotel staff changed my room however the new room's air condition was not working. I was then shifted to another room. The extension to the reception was down for almost 4 days during my stay.

Room cleaning not done daily means used cups and teaspoons must be washed by the guest before re-use, but dishing washing liquid and a sponge are not provided. I was put in a room furthest from the entrance property that backed onto a busy street. To get to my room I had to walk through and past lines of the hotel washing, as well as a huge pile of discarded mattresses and pillows and other debris.
In the room the couch was broken in parts and covered in stains. The towels were thread bare. The worst part, when I went to go to bed and pulled back the top sheet, there was a huge stain on the bottom sheet - I had to pull off the top sheet and wrap myself in it to lay on the bed with some protection.

The staff were warm, friendly and helpful. Our room was large and comfortable and only lacked a small dish for soap so it didn’t have to sit on the counter. A place to hang wet bathing suits would have been nice too. Housekeeping only came when requested which I appreciate. Everyday isn’t necessary. We’d happily return.

The room was nice and practical, but missed a microwave. Staff helpful. However, on first day i managed to lock my safe and couldn't open it anymore. They would send someone to fix it but it never happened 😔 not a.problem, I had nothing in the safe. Breakfast buffet I missed savoury basics such as cheese. Overall a magnificent stay!

When I checked in the room was not ready. That was @ 4pm…..then I said put me in a different room, they said we are fully booked. Then another staff come and out me in a different room, the hotel wasn’t fully booked. Very rude and not helpful…..ruined the whole experience.

I had a bad start to my holiday with the airline, but as soon as I reached the smiling faces of the friendly staff at the hotel, it completely changed my mood. The room was dated, but the bed was comfortable, the air con was cold, and the shower was effective. I booked the hotel for use of the tennis courts, but found out when I arrived that they were not in use. The buffet breakfast had an array of fresh fruit, cereal and toast every morning, which saves a lot of money for other things. For the price I paid for my 2.5 week stay, I was incredibly happy with the hotel and the staff. If I return to Vanuatu, I would definitely stay at the Melanesia hotel again. The location is perfect.

Even simple facilities such as in room shower and plumbing were not working properly. Quite disappointing and not somewhere I would rush to stay again in Vanuatu

The staff was very friendly and welcoming upon arrival & easy to get to from airport, however, we were not made aware the property was under renovation and the pictures are a bit misleading. Absolutely no pool chairs to lay out by pool or towels offered as listed on the site. The bathroom towels were almost shredded though the room was clean enough, & beds pretty firm. The big upside if you don't plan on spending much time in the room anyways, like us, it is affordable and within walking distance to the market/ shops and to find another hotel/pool to lay out by.

I stayed in one bed room apartment and standard room. Standard room had enough Space but I highly recommend apartment type rooms. They are spacious, have kitchen with cooktop, big bathroom with washing machine... very comfortable to stay. 10 minutes walk to city centre, 15 minutes drive to airport, good hotel to use for transition to another island.

A standard motel style hotel. I found the photos to be deceiving and the pool wasn’t in use. The room was clean and the location is good. Our room was worn and old. It was fine for a night. The breakfast was good.

We liked the fact that the Melanesian was close to town and had great cultural performances on some nights. We liked the fact that their breakfast had a wide variety of food including the fish shaped pancakes, crussoints, cereals, fruits and yogurts which catered to all breakfast preferences.
Our concerns when staying there with a toddler was that the pool is not fenced and on the 3rd floor on the railings on the balcony outside the enterance to the rooms too wide. They are wide enough to fit a small child through. We had to be extra vigilant in keeping our child away from the railings. It would make it safer for small children if either chicken wire is placed as an extra barrier or the railings be moved closer together.

They are wide enough to fit a small child through. We had to be extra vigilant in keeping our child away from the railings. It would make it safer for small children if either chicken wire is placed as an extra barrier or the railings be moved closer together.
