Just returned from my second annual birthday overnight at the Mark Hopkins. I'm a Bay Area native who grew up in the East Bay and attended high school in San Francisco. I had a few high school dances at the Mark. I knew what the Top of the Mark was long before I could have legally been admitted - it's a local legend. As a child and youth I held the firm conviction that anyone who actually stayed at the Mark Hopkins had it made in life. So on my 50th I decided to make that happen for myself. My husband and I liked it so much that we returned for my 51st. I intend for this to be a yearly tradition going forward. Beautiful, iconic building, fabulous, attentive staff, and jaw-dropping views. What's not to love?

Have stayed here multiple times and been consistently satisfied. Location is my favorite in SF. Staff is always attentive and room service and housekeeping are always excellent. Bed was not comfortable, mattress was quite saggy and unsupportive. Cold water pressure in bathroom sink was poor.

Nice area and hotel has lovely charm to it. Large room at front but faces onto traffic/team line and windows are very thin and both those and the blackout blinds could do with being updated - ask from a room at the rear of hotel for a better sleep!

The hotel cleaners were exceptional but the hotel is in need of a major refresh. The decor is outdated, no mini fridge available, and the bathroom has no storage at all. The plumbing fixtures were old and the tv was older than my teenage son. The staff were very friendly and helpful (except when I asked the front desk about food storage for our early morning excursion when the hotel agent snapped at me) but unless I am trying to stay somewhere with an “antique” designation, I would not stay here again. Last time I was here was 15 years ago and the Mark Hopkins has not advanced since then. I was disappointed.

Absolutely fabulous staff from the front desk to the waiter at the restaurant. The rooms were lovely too! And the location in SF was safe, clean and close to Chinatown. We will definitely be staying there again. It’s Luxury hotel at average SF hotel prices.

We LOVED this place. The staff was so lovely and welcoming. The breakfast buffet rocked! The location was adjacent to the Old part of town, yet quiet. Very walkable. Our room was really nice and so was the pool. If you are staying in Hoi An, this is a great boutique hotel.

The hotel was in okay condition, rooms are tired with little to no additional power by the beds other than for the lamp and clock. No coffee or water in the room, you had to go to the lobby if you wanted either of these items.
Seemed to be light on staff, called for room service multiple times before someone answered and we'd tried to call the front desk before arrival to request early checking and no one answered on 4 separate occasions. Ordered room service for breakfast, oatmeal, eggs Benedict and 2 latte coffees, almost $100 with this that and the other added. Way too expensive. - Disappointed and won't be rushing back.

The room and service were great. I requested a itemized bill. They said they would send to my email. never got it. then the fun began. Every phone number I tried no one answered. web site number 415-392-3434 5 days no answer. Other numbers I end with a friendly bot named Joyce.

Incredible experience and lovely staff, we got in a bit early and they acocmodated us with earlym check in. The food at the restaurant was fresh and healthy meal options were available. The had daily free coffee until 1030 am which was also a nice touch. The location is also unbeatable right at the top of the hill. It was in the middle of everything and easy to walk or take an uber/cable car.

The Mark Hopkins is a classic and overall wears its 100+ year-old heritage well. True, some of its original opulence has faded with time and trends, but it's still a great place to stay, especially considering the very reasonable rates. The staff are friendly and professional and the Top of the Mark is still the best view in town. My only complaint is about the air handling in the rooms, which sounds like a jet engine every time it starts up.

Room was fine, clean. Hotel seems a bit rundown but was clean and nice staff. We went to breakfast buffet, which was okay but over $100 for 2 people so not a great value. Location was nice and safe but a nice, hilly walk to closest coffee shops.

No complimentary tea, only coffee. No à la carte options for breakfast, except as in-room-dining. Wifi did not work very well. No treadmill in the gym. Staff were friendly, I easily got early check in. Was not busy when I was there.

Staff was friendly, but the hotel is very dated. The room was ok, but again, it’s very old. As well as lacking basic amenities. For example there is nowhere to purchase a bottle of water, or anything else to drink. The front desk doesn’t even have any for sale.

Staff is terrific. Helpful and professional, well trained. Coffee delivered to the room in the morning at a time you specify. Bed was a comfortable refuge. The Mark is great. AND not as busy with tourists crowding the lobby like at the Fairmount across the street.
Only disappointment was the hotel bar “Top of the Mark” was closed for special events every night. It was part of the reason to stay there. Sad. It’s a beautiful spot! Love the location.

Absolutely loved staying here, would recommend and would definitely stay again. Very cosy room with super comfortable bed, daily housekeeping and great staff. Overall fairly quiet, didn’t hear any other guests but the windows are a little on the thin side so I’d recommend ear plugs if you’re a light sleeper and ask for a room away from elevators. Enjoyed having a robe which can be requested from house keeping. Free coffee available in reception on a morning and there’s also a water bottle refill station. Area is lovely, felt very safe, cable car passes right out the front. One thing to note is the hotel is at the top of the hill so it’s steep few blocks if you’re coming up from Union Square!

We had such a wonderful Thanksgiving stay! We could see the Golden Gate Bridge from our room as well as a fantastic view of Grace Cathedral. Our bed was so comfortable! Overall a fantastic place to stay when visiting San Francisco (and I’m a native!).

The staff at reception was okay. Housekeeping knocked on the door at 9 am on a weekend! That was very rude. The room was clean but the bed was so uncomfortable. It dipped in the middle and made it very hard to relax.

Coffee in the lobby ran out at 9:30 am and it took 30 minutes to get a new refill.

The elevators were very slow and very full. Even if it stopped on our floor, it took almost a half hour to get in because it was always full. We opted to carry our luggage up the stairs (two flights) to check in because of the amount of time it was taking.

I’ve stayed here in the past and this is the most chaotic. Maybe it’s because of the holidays.

We were disappointed that the Too of the Mark no longer served Snday brunch.

The bed and quality linens was the star! Staff were very congenial and accommodating and the bathroom immaculate. I enjoyed immersing myself in the atmosphere and ambience of a golden past era, especially views from top floor. I specifically wanted that old world experience and the decor didn't disappoint. My only discontent was the food and the not much value proposition on pricing restaurant. Brunch price changes daily! I sense there may be some financial distress and need to upgrade without sacrificing image. I hope IHG can do that. Mark Hopkins is an icon

This is a very beautiful hotel and you can tell that all of the architecture is a work of art. The only part about it that is a little difficult is the entryway to the parking lot it's not clearly marked and is actually the middle of a crosswalk which is a little weird. Aside from that the interior is immaculate and their Christmas decorations were so wonderful. The room is incredibly clean with a beautiful view. Vaulted ceilings with well thought out amenities.

On check in there was a very long line. The front desk man was nice at first, then as he was handing my key dismissive and as I was asking a question, he was walking away and only briefly acknowledged with an unhelpful answer. I then asked if I should stand in a extremely large line of people getting on the elevator. He said yes. I went to stand in line only to find out that guests of the hotel could shortcut the line as they were not going to the top of the mark. The door man was very kind and the man hosting the Nob Hill Club was very kind as I was looking for a non touristy spot for a glass of wine with a business associate. At the end of my stay I did go up to the top of the mark as I hadn't been up there for 10 years or so and it was very full with tourists and the space is not being kept up. looks dated and run down. My room looked dated and run down. Overall Its a beautiful historical hotel but I was somewhat disappointed with how it is being kept.

Beautiful hotel, shame the bar at The Top of the Mark is not as it used to be. Rooms could do with some updating. The Thanksgiving dinner was not as good as we had hoped, no cranberry sauce, we asked for more gravy as our food was a little dry but none came. They ran out of desserts, it would have been nice for more traditional desserts such as pumpkin pie, apple crumble. The restaurant was not busy at all but our waiter seemed a little flustered.

We were in town for an event on Nob Hill so the location was perfect. Hadn't bee to the Top of the Mark in years so it was fun to have a sunset cocktail and enjoy the amazing view. The staff were great and the room was comfortable (also with a great view). There was a minor issue with the bathroom door which couldn't be closed properly. All in all, an enjoyable San Francisco experience.

This hotel provides none if the amenities expected of a luxury hotel. There is no refrigerator, no coffee maker, no bathrobes, and the windiws, through which you might enjoy fabulous views, are filthy. Do not bother staying here until they've figured out their problems

Did not like that something as simple as bottles of water were not in the room or given at check-in!
Water and hydration is essential and given complimentary or for purchase in the room at all nice hotels.
Additionally, we were planing to go for drinks at the TOP OF THE MARK. It was supposed to be one of the highlights of our stay. Unfortunately, it was closed for a private event! It would’ve been nice to be notified as this would have prompted me to re-schedule my trip for another weekend. I was disappointed to say the least!
