While this hotel was very well placed, the hospitality of the staff could use some work. Our room smelled very strongly cigarettes and when I mentioned it to the staff at the front I was gaslit into believing it is impossible for it to smell like cigaretttes. He said it \"was impossible for it to smell like cigarettes because there's a smoke detector in the room\". After coming out 4 seperate times to tell him the cigarette smell was not leaving, he finally started believing. Luckily the next morning there was another staff member at the desk who was much more understanding and gave us a new room.

Lovely hotel in a great neighborhood just a couple blocks off the Vondel Park. Staff was excellent and really helpful with recommendations. Room was excellent, bed was comfy and the bathroom was spacious. Stairs are a little steep, but that seems to be the norm in Amsterdam. Only thing I'd add to my wishlist would be a mini-fridge. Otherwise, great place to stay!!!

Inconvenience of opening the door of the bathroom, because clashing with the bed, which stood right next to the door. For people weighing more than 60+, it is hard to squeeze through. The safe did not work and, according to the administrator, it has not been working for a long time. The reason why it is there is not clear. The only window overlooked the courtyard of the adjacent house and at night there was noise from the residents celebrating loudly. They prevented us from getting enough sleep. Cobwebs hang on the chandeliers like garlands. Dust is everywhere, deep cleaning is required. At the beginning there were problems with the Internet connection (Wi-Fi did not work). The administrator was rude saying that it was fault of our phone models (we had iPhones), but it turned out that the reason was a malfunction of the Hotel router. Dimitry, a professional in his field, helped us to solve the problem and resolve the issue with the WiFi connection.

Adequate given the cost for the central location

Hotel is fine for the cost and location and if you are just using it as a place to sleep. Single beds very narrow and soft, walls very thin so can hear people in adjacent room. No aircon (was there during heatwave, unfortunately). But it’s reasonably priced and you get what you pay for. If you want a nice hotel near the centre you have to pay much more, or pay the same and stay much further out.

Quick review of the Apple Inn is that I would not stay here again. Here is the good and the bad.
The Good: The location is excellent. It’s a short walk to Vondelpark, or to a nice bakery. It’s on the #2 tram line, which can take you throughout the city. Most is the staff were friendly and helpful, and there is a nice patio area to escape to.
The Bad: If you have difficulty negotiating stairs request a room on the first floor. The stairs risers are very small and steep. In the compact room we found a TV that receives one station, a lukewarm shower and a safe that did not open. We asked for the safe to be repaired but it was not. Also, the breakfast cook appeared to dislike Americans.

The room was tiny, as we expected. The front desk staff was very friendly. But they charged us an extra $50 non-refundable tax on top of hotels.com reservation that I could not understand. The hotel is in a very nice residential neighborhood, than regular touristy spots. We were able to enjoy the quiet and have the local experience, as we wanted.

They have a very cute tiny patio that was fun for my younger one to visit.

Decent hotel for the price but needs a lot of work

Small hotel in two connected residential buildings. Very narrow stairs to the second floor so beware if you have a lot of luggage or mobility issues.
Room was a decent size and turned out to a quiet garden which was nice.
The hotel (and room) is really in need of some TLC - paint, lampshades (dirty) etc.
Shower was decent but again a bit dirty and run down.

The property was awful, there was a plastic bag covering the smoke detector, mould in the bathroom and the bathroom stunk. I have never witnessed anything so bad in my life. I refused to stay in the property and i have been refused a refund. Totally unacceptable

My wife and I booked a room at this hotel, and there are a few reasons we ended up finding a different hotel to stay in after we stayed one night out of three. First, the street it's located on is busy/loud at all hours of the night. Two, they did not put us in a room without AC during a bout of 90 deg F temps. The room had a window that would only open 2 inches because the bed was in front of it. This means very limited airflow and the window needed to be open to the loud street for any hope of cooling off the room. Three, the shower was tiny and the condition of the room was poor. Overall I would stay away from it as there are many other choices in Amsterdam.

The staff/owners were very nice. This hotel had very steep stairs and it was very very hard to use them! No air ! And it was hot!!!!!! And the staff was unwilling to supply an extra fan even. I would not suggest using this hotel if you can not handle steep winding stairs and no air conditioning.

I read in a previous post there were no lifts and you had to use the staircase to get to the room, which wouldn't have been a problem, but the stairs were narrow and winding, difficult when you have luggage. The room was a lot smaller than expected and the bathroom. A comfortable stay for 1 night and convenient for trams.

The hotel was ok. Nothing special. We had ants for the three nights we were there. Told the front desk and they just said “oh. I’m sorry”. I understand that it’s not their fault, but it’s not fun waking up in the morning with ants crawling on your arm. The bathroom was incredibly small. My son is 6’2 snd could barely fit in there. The breakfast was supposed to be until 10 so we showed up at 9:30 and everything was pretty much gone. I think it was 12 euros. My friend is vegetarian and couldn’t eat anything except toast and cheese. The location is great but wouldn’t stay there again.

The hotel was selected mainly for the location as I wanted to be very near to transport services.
This is very easy to find and a few mins walk for the bus/ tram stops
Be aware that the stairs are extremely steep and very narrow and there isn’t a lift
Just a minor niggle but the water in the shower unit didn’t immediately clear and I stopped my shower as I wasn’t sure how close I was to flooding the bathroom

Staff was nice. Janitor was always nice and made very clean result. The location is not the best but the transportation to everywhere was convenient. Also, the location is in residential area, so it was more quiet than in the city centre.

Unfortunately, there was weak soundproof in our room. We could hear everything from neighbour rooms, hallway and outside hotel. Also, bathroom is in need of renovation. However, shower and sink worked fine.

All in all, we liked the stay and the location.

Budget hotel good for travelers without a car

This hotel is small with very steep stairs to the room and no parking associated with hotel. Our description listed \"parking available\" and it was a major factor why I chose them. (There is neighborhood parking during the day for a hrly fee and free overnight) but there is no security. The front desk help was completely clueless about neighborhood parking rules and didnt seem to be worried that we were very disappointed and anxious about our rental car. We had to figure it out on our own.
The room had a shower with part of the glass enclosure missing that was covered by a curtain. Overall the room was clean but had a youth hostel feel and was not worth the price.

A spacious room. Tram 2 runs just outside the hotel so very convenient.
Airport express bus station is 5 mins walk away and operates regularly so excellent for travellers/tourists.

Great location in the Museum district with a tram outside the door and near to a stop on direct bus service from airport. Lots of good restaurants, bars and cafes nearby and close walk to many attractions.

Our room was a little compact and the bathroom very small but for the overnight stay we had it was perfectly OK. the staff were very helpful with local information and breakfast was a good buffet for 12.50 euros. a very quiet location even with the trams.

In terms of taking tram, it is a good location. But the floor is so filthy. The pictures does on Expedia web does not represent the reality at all. We checked in, found out safe has does not work, has no battery, and the toilet splash its water whenever you flush it. The next day we present the issue to the front desk, the lady took out batteries and trying to fix the safe. 2pm we came back found out the safe is still not working and the room is not cleaned at all. We went to the front desk again. The guy said “oh we should give you the key, and the guy who checked you in is an idiot”. When we explained the toilet problem, he said it is normal when the water pressure is wrong. So I suggested you should at least giving a bottle of sprayed sanitizer there because it is the toilet water splashing out. He said no because no one complained about this before. I sincerely request Expedia give credit or refund for this kind of service. We didn’t book such a shabby hotel and service!

Avoid if you can!

Steep steps to the second floor, and hair everywhere.
If they put you in room 12, run a mile. Right at the top of the building, at the top of some very steep stairs, and with a damp problem so bad it made a birthday card soggy within 48 hours.
They did move us to room 4 after I asked to be moved but no apology was given, and they had tried to suggest we were at fault, and basically made us pack up immediately so they could move us into another room. When doing this I discovered a slipper under the bed that didn't belong to us. I left it where I found it, but it was moved with our belongings... Room 4 looks out onto the street, where works began on the tram lines at 7:30am. We were also awoken by late check-ins (our room was above reception) and the fan of another room I think, as well as hearing a child running overhead while we were trying to sleep. The pillows were appalling and we've both got bad necks as a result. The bedding in room 4 was holey.
I would 100% avoid this place, as it not only ruined my partner's birthday but our first holiday in 3 years, as I've had to spend a lot of time dealing with this through hotels.com as well as at the hotel. Currently waiting on a resolution, but there is never a manager available to talk with hotels.com.

Staff are very accommodating and helpful with a smile. They will do what they can to make you as comfortable as possible. Rooms are basic but comfortable, except the bathroom is tiny which is standard for budget European rooms. In my room, you had to turn sideways and squeeze into the shower because the sink blocks one of the doors. Area is a neighborhood perfectly situated close to Tram 2 stop and Museumplein without being in a bustling area. The owners are extremely kind and genuinely enjoy helping travelers. Would stay here again.

The hotel is situated in a beautiful part of Amsterdam where the character of the city can be seen in the old buildings. When we arrived we were informed of extra taxes that I had to pay & feel these taxes should be part of your quoted prices! The room was actually and realistically a bit small for 4 people travelling with bags. From pictures advertised the room seemed bigger! Light fittings hanging off the walls! Shower leaked! The flooring outside the bathroom was lifting and we tripped over it a few times!I had brought this flooring matter to the hotels attention on day one and nothing was done about it.

This hotel was chosen for being in a location near and event we were attending. Most importantly, on this occasion, it was important to us to be able to travel by car and the hotel's listing implied that self parking for a surcharge was available at the property. On arrival we discovered that there is no parking except on the street outside which would cost nearly 50 euros for 24 hours. The person reception assisted in making a booking at a parking facility around a kilometre or so any which turned out to be an outdoor carpark at the Hilton. This cast an unfortunate negative on our experience.

They took advantage of our bad English

Very disappointing. We asked if the breakfast was included at the reception and they said yes. Then the last day we ended up with a bill of €40 for breakfast. I feel they take advantage of tourists who don’t speak good English. If the breakfast costs €10, it should say so at the restaurant or at least let us know or charge it in advance. One of us only had a tea and she was still charged €10. We would have chosen to have breakfast in a cheaper place otherwise.

Apple Inn was a good base for our visit to Amsterdam, in a quiet location and good transport links to the city centre a short tram ride away. The staff gave us valuable information about the park and ride discount.
Only criticisms were the size of the ensuite and the net curtain for the large bedroom window which needed to be washed.

The area was lovely and only a short walk from the tram station which took you through the centre of Amsterdam and to central station. The front desk and lobby area is decorated beautifully and the staff are friendly and able to assist us with everything we needed (extra toilet roll, iron). The room was nicely decorated too for the price. The beds were a little uncomfortable but I think that’s because I accidentally booked 2 single beds (couldn’t be bothered changing rooms after a night but i’m sure they would have been very accommodating if I had asked). My boyfriend found the pillows uncomfy as well but I thought they were alright! The corridors were a little bit noisey during the night as the doors were very thin and this woke me up a few times but all in all for the price it was a good stay.

Located close to the tram station, from where you can catch a tram to city central which is about 3 kms away.
Decent bfast spread. The staff is pleasant and helpful.
Special shout out to Mr AJ and Ms. Fa , who were of help at the Reception and Kitchen respectively.
Rooms are small. We took a room for 5 of us and its wasn't luxurious as such, though they were comfortable and clean.

I stayed room 12 and very very small they should give lower rate if the selling the small room like that amd most of the room on second floor are normal size except 3 thed floor rooms thats to tight space and me and my wife we barely got inside with our two little carry on bags we block acess to the bad i had to put begs on little table at the corner no space to eat for two persons for that price its to expensive plus city tax additional 220 euros come on little tight room 80 euros thats normal rate fpr that room.

We spent 2 nights after a long trip. The hotel and the room were very clean, close to the centre on line 2 and a short walk from vonderpark. Breakfast was decent and there are some restaurants nearby although check for their opening hours. The only thing I wound change is the size of the beds - we had twin room and they are quite narrow. Bathroom facilitaties were also new. Overall a pleasant stay.

Accommodating hotel. A little tight, and those stairs ... wow. No elevator. Just ask for help. Once in room your good to go. Across from a great park (Vondelpark). Local area is like being a local Willemspark(ian). One of the most expensive places to live, but great to visit and stay. Definitely Safe with amenities. Tram is the way to go into Amsterdam, but is very walkable too.

Clean room and comfortable beds. Hotel is in a quiet neighborhood about 10 to 15 min walk to museum quarter. Tram is located right out front and airport bus stop is 5 min away.

When I arrived at the Apple Inn they told me they could not accommodate me for my first night. They had given my room away even though I had booked and prepaid for my room months in advance. I had to stay in an extra bed in the room of the family I was travelling with. Later that evening the hotel did offer me a room to stay in however I would have to pack up and move all my stuff to another room the next day. After a long flight from Vancouver Canada I was jet lagged, already settled in my family's room and needing sleep. I did not have the energy to pack and move again.

Lovely hotel in great neighbourhood

Great little hotel in lovely neighborhood with easy access to central Amsterdam. Very helpful manager. No lift however & very steep stairs to rooms but overall would highly recommend.

superb service in top notch building and area

This is a spacious and comfortable place with superb customer service. i loved the neighborhood, the proximity of the park and the cultural institutions as well as the old downtown, but i was even more impressed with the proprietor who went beyond the call for everything from directions to ordering me a pizza. proud of their city, and interested in their guests.

Good value, quiet, near tram, & helpful staff.

The Apple Inn Hotel is an older building in a quiet mixed residential and business area. It is very near to a tram stop. You are also within walking distance to a grocery store and bakery. The hotel staff were wonderful, helping us with our bags when we arrived dog-tired from our flight. They also came several times to help me with the room safe. The room included a walk-in closet and a seating area (we had a window to the garden). The bathroom doors would be better as sliding doors since they touched the foot of the bed when opened. The bed was a little softer than my preference, but my husband was content. I had to book last minute, but am very content with our choice. Well priced, fairly convenient, helpful staff.

Helpful and friendly staff, good location.

Staff were friendly and helpful. The location was good, in easy walking distance of nice restaurants and Vondel Park. Also easy to catch the number 2 tram into the centre. Can easily walk the museums.

Good top end budget hotel

Clean but basic rooms, including tea/coffee making facilities that many budget hotels do not provide. Friendly staff and a very pleasant small garden to unwind in. A good 15 minute walk to the Museum Quarter and a further 10 minutes from there to the Old Town, but there is a tram stop very close to the hotel for those less willing to walk. Overall a nice place to stay.

If your a family stay well clear.

Our booking was booked about 2 months in advance we were not informed that our booking was cancelled at 8 in the morning of our stay the hotel manager shouting that he held the room for 5 hours
until 1 oclock. that was lies as later he admitted he cancelled the room at 8 in the morning so were stuck on the street me and my wife a three young children, 1 with autism as he sold the room for more than i had booked for. no apology what so ever no contact or email that the booking was cancelled.

This is a small hotel located towards the outskirts of the city, however with the Number 2 Tram stopping right outside it doesn’t take long to get in to town and to the main attractions and Central Station. This is definitely one of the main selling points of this hotel. Our hotel room was small but perfectly comfortable for our stay. It was very clean however the owners need to pay more attention to areas such as ceilings and light fittings - these were very dusty which is a shame as the rest of the room and bathroom toilet etc were very clean. We had breakfast at the hotel once. There was a nice selection of foods, cereals, toast, juices, fruit, croissants, eggs, meats and cheeses, typical continental breakfast, but at 12.50 euros each it is way too expensive for what is on offer and we did not feel it offered good value for money. Given what you get for 12.50 euros, I think 8 Euros per person is a much more reasonable price.
The breakfast aside, this hotel offers good value for money, the staff were pleasant, check in was straightforward and we would definitely stay here again.

A home away from home in Amsterdam

No.2 tram is right around the corner which takes you to almost all the interesting spots in Amsterdam. The inn keeper is most helpful, even got us the day passes. Breakfast is great with freshly made coffee and fresh fruits too.
