Myself, my partner and our young daughter came to stay here for 1 night and we couldn’t recommend more. The staff were very friendly and welcoming to us all. They were more than happy to store our luggage before check in before we went off to explore the area for the day. When we returned for the evening to check in, our luggage was even already placed in our room.

Our hotel room was clean and the beds were comfortable. The hotel is also very local to tram stop / line which is only around a 15 minute trip into Amsterdam Centraal station.

I stayed at this hotel for 7 nights and, unfortunately, my experience was far below expectations.

The problems began at check-in. Despite having contacted the hotel twice in advance and attempting to call immediately upon landing (with no response), the receptionist was rude and confrontational, placing the blame on us instead of offering assistance. This set an unwelcoming tone from the very beginning.

The room itself was not maintained to a satisfactory standard. Bed sheets were not properly clean on arrival and were rarely replaced during the stay. Towels were changed infrequently. The plumbing was problematic, with unpleasant odours and poor drainage. The room was also uncomfortably hot; the fan provided was ineffective, and combined with very thin walls and constant street noise at night, restful sleep was almost impossible.

Most concerning was a security incident one evening around 10pm, when someone was testing the locks on multiple doors in the hallway, including ours. It was very unsettling. When we called reception to report this, staff dismissed the matter as a “mistake” and offered no reassurance or follow-up, which left us feeling unsafe.

Overall, this property failed on both comfort and service. Between the unprofessional reception, poor room standards, lack of safety response, and excessive noise, I could not recommend this hotel and would not choose to stay again.

Excellent location, awful smell.

The location and service at the hotel were excellent. Unfortunately there was a strong sewage smell permeating from the bathroom. We were able to close the bathroom door and keep the smell out of the room but each trip to the bathroom/shower was miserable. We loved the location and the staff was excellent but I can’t say I’d stay here again.

In a very good location, very easy to get to Central Station on the Tram. The staff were very friendly. However, the hotel itself is very dilapidated, also not very clean at all, I got covered in bites all over my arms and legs from bed bugs / fleas in the room, the whole hotel needs a DEEP clean and refresh.

Very Dutch stairwells, but George helped us with our heavy bag. Tiny room, but all the essentials.

Super attractive interior design. Walkable to the museum district and right next to Vondelpark. We LOVE this neighborhood. Visit Labyrinth Cocktail Soul Food & Poetry Bar on Sunday for open mic night, walking distance.

The property itself was located pretty well in terms of travel to city centre, however the property itself is in desperate need of renovation, this is definitely not an accessible hotel with the tight, steep staircases.

From the beginning of the trip, we were met with a nice staff member that gave us the rundown, house rules etc, which were reasonable, however there was no area for lounging and the back garden was closed off to customers, which I think is a massive negative.

We were told our room was being cleaned, which was understandable, however when we got up to the room, we were met with a not clean room, the window sills still had a residue of what I can only assume is old beer, further confirmed with the bottle cap we found on the balcony. Moving from that, the mattresses had what appeared to be a number of stains, which I will assume is urine, but hope it was not. The bathroom is tiny, with the door cut in half so it can fold to close, I could use the toilet and wash my hands at the same time it was that small. The shower head holder was broken and the shower head wouldn’t sit in place, meaning we had to fight with it constantly to be able to have a shower.

The old door on the shower made it a nightmare to open and close. Following that, there was no drain cover on the shower drain, so we were met with an open hole in the shower, which was dirty. The toilet brush was also dirty.

I would recommend the area for people, however not this hotel

there was a problem with the bathroom, an horrible smell was coming out of it. we tried opening the door and the window, it was worse. so we asked the guy at the entrance and he asked the cleaning people who forgot so we had to ask twice. they put something so the smell went away for maybe 12 hours and then it was all back

It’s a good hotel, not exactly in the downtown but very close to tramway and still walkable distance from downtown (30 min), the rooms are upstairs on a very steep stair, they are very clean. The shower it’s not nice, but it’s clean. I do recommend because of location and price.

Highly recommended

Lovely hotel. Decorated to a high standard, lots of character. It's in a quiet residential pretty street. Vondelpark is five minutes walk, so lovely. The streets are lined with trees. The rooms are plenty big enough, we had a table and chairs at the window to watch the world go by. Excellent soundproofing.
They only provide paper cups with the tea and coffee facilities, which isn't eco friendly, need ceramic mugs, maybe biscuits and bottled water would be good. Bathroom is well stocked with toiletries.
Breakfast is a little disappointing, not much for the price, not many options and you are only served espresso. Hotel is close to restaurants, supermarket, wine shop, chocolate shop and tram stop, very convenient. Vondelpark has a few cafe's to choose from, as well. We would stay again.

This hotel is in a great neighborhood. The staff is very friendly and the room was clean. However, it is still under renovation which makes it very unpleasant. The work starts at 8 am, making sleeping any later impossible. There was NO hot water in the shower which is totally unacceptable. Avoid this hotel. Maybe when the renovations are complete it will be ok, but there are zero amenities. We were also charged a 33 euro city tax for 2 of us for 3 days. Expedia needs to make this clear. On the hotel site it says there is a 3 euro per person city tax per day. There is a very narrow and steep flight of steps that are prohibitive for anyone who is not fully able bodied. We would never stay here again. Total disappointment!

Basic but good base for exploring

Hotel was very basic but was exactly what we needed as a base for our trip. We had a twin room which had super comfy beds and was a good size. It doesn't look like much from the outside but the area is lovely (about 50 min walk from the centre). The stairs are a bit crazy but you get used to them and seems quite common in Amsterdam! Only thing missing for us was a full length mirror :)

Good location out of centre and on main tramline 2, approx 10-15 mins to centre. Room very basic but clean but 2 flights of stupidly narrow steep stairs ruined it as we went with 2 friends and it wasn't very practical to socialise in each other's rooms. Supermarket 'jumbo' 5 mins walk. Vondel park 5 mins walk (mini Central Park). Building work going on which we weren't told about and loud music at 0730hrs on first morning and stairwell covered our clothes in dust every time we went downstairs. Staff very polite. £100 a night which was a lot but cheaper than being central.

Other reviews have mentioned the steep stairs - they weren't as steep as I'd anticipated. Location is away from the crowds in the central areas although if you have a room facing onto the street you may find traffic noise intrusive. Breakfast for 10euros is fine; staff are helpful. George Bistro on the corner by the tram stop is great and the bakery is good too.

Decent for an affordable hotel

Stayed for a few nights, room had maid each morning... hotel is about 20 minute walk from Leidseplein which is quite nice when you walk through vondelpark nearby. Room comes with basic amineties expected and a tv with a few English channels, shower was decent once you find a temperature that isn’t scolding. Happy trip to the hotel and would recommend to anyone on a budget, really decent location for the price.

Very Disappointed .. far from the center

First of all the stairs are soo small you can't take big bags upstairs , the bathroom smells so bad , i came late and i did not have enough cash to pay the city Tax i told them i will pay when i go out the next day to bring cash . when i came back they stopped me from entering the hotel with my card and locked the room , i was so upset from the rude way i received from so rude manager .

i do not recommend this hotel to anyone also

Nice local feel to this hotel.

The room does what it says on the tin. Nice, modern and clean room with tea and coffee facilities. However the bathrooms could do with an update as they’re very dated and some could perceive it as “dirty” but it’s just old. Also, lots of stairs but I’m grateful for the exercise and it was only really a nucience when we had our cases.

The staff were very friendly and couldn’t help enough! Thank you for the stay :)

Pleasant Hotel, Great Staff

The hotel itself was situated quite close to the main centre of Amsterdam. All you have to do is jump on a number 2 tram and you're on your way.

The room was fine and did what it was supposed to do. It was spacious, tidy and quiet - all you want after a day out exploring. Our only gripe was the staircase. I'm not sure whether all stairs are like it in Amsterdam as 95% of properties out there are townhouses. The stairs were quite steep and the thin, definitely not something to climb if you're bearings aren't fully functional.

Nonetheless, the staff was fantastic and we had a great experience. Would recommend this hotel to friends anytime.

Conveniently situated for Tram and Museums

Hotel was clean. Very small bedrooms and the double bed, which was very comfortable took up the entire room. Bathroom was tiny with a pull to shower curtain for the shower in front of the toilet so one showered the whole toilet area floor was wet. The handbasin shelf had been stuck back having fallen off and sloped so nothing could be put on it. For budget hotel it was alright but not if you have any difficulty walking up three flights of steep stairs as there is no lift.

Great location and walking distance to the tram station which is a bonus, but you can walk from the hotel into the main areas of Amsterdam within 10 - 15 minutes ( if you're a fast walker like me ). The Expensive Box

We loved the surrounding area and the staff couldn't have been more helpful but I wasn't impressed with the room at all. We had to climb 3 very steep flights of stairs (standard in a traditional Amsterdam building) only to discover that I paid over £200 for 3 nights for a box. Literally enough room to squeeze past the bed and the toilet was terrible. I was slightly peeved when I saw the maid cleaning the room next to ours (double - same type as ours) but it was much bigger, stylish and more comfortable. You could have played a game of rounders in the toilet but I was lucky to be able to wipe my behind without hitting my funny bone off the sink.

Small but very clean hotel close to trams, restaurants & local shops. Very close to Vondel Park to ride & walk. Hotel quite small in main areas as old converted home but our room was quite large by European standards & breakfast was limited but adequate for most people. Would stay here again.

The hotel is nicely located only two tram stops from the museum and Concertgebouw area, in a residential area a few blocks from an excellent park and several dining options. Our initial room was too small and faced the street, which can get loud with the tram running by, but the staff happily relocated us to a larger room facing the inner courtyard. Although it required navigating three flights of steep stairs, the peace and quiet and excellent room were well worth it. Breakfast was included and more than adequate for our needs. Rooms were clean and the beds were very comfortable. Our stay was pleasant and the hotel represented good value for the money.

Budget hotel very close to a halt on tram Line 2

Good basic hotel and excellent value for money.Very close to Valeriusplein halt on tram line 2 and only 15 minutes to city centre. Very easy to get into the centre so it makes sense to stay in a cheaper hotel, outside the central area and use the frequent, cheap tram service. The local area is upmarket residential with a few expensive shoe and clothes shops and not much else (though there is a large supermarket close by). Large park ( Vondelpark) is in walking distance but the cold, biting March winds kept us away. In better weather it is possible to use the nearby supermarket and picnic in Vondelpark. Overall I was very pleased with my stay.

Stayed end of January with my boyfriend, I was nervous after looking at some reviews but the hotel room was baeautiful and updated. We didn't include the breakfast in our stay but was available for €7.50 if we wanted it. Had good television channels such as mtv and Comedy Central. The staff we very friendly and helpful! There is a supermarket 3minute walk away and also a tram stop just a minute walk from the hotel , it would take about 20 minutes to walk dam square (if you know the way to go lol) . Overall the hotel was very good and I enjoyed my stay !

The hotel is very close to the tram station, which takes you right to the center.
Hotel staff is very friendly, and the hotel is clean.
But the room is really small, and the bathroom is not a bathroom: it's a toilet where they added a shower. You better not be claustrophobic to enjoy your stay!

So we arrived at the hotel for check in. The lady asked us to pay for the government tax of 20 euro, for which I had not idea I had already paid for it when i booked the hotel. So I had paid for it twice. However, the staff was very helpful when we asked for directions and also really ready to help with anything else we had asked for. We would meet the cleaners every morning and they were very friendly to us and always said hello.

The disadvantages of the hotel was he breakfast. There was only cold items on the counter like ham and cheese, there was no scrambled eggs or bacon or ommlette or beans or mushroom or anything that would make a proper breakfast worthy to eat, so we had bread and cheese for the 4 days. Although, they did have variety of cold drinks availible.

We found our room, after much confusion checking in at reception where despite having a record of our reservation and seeing our ID they asked us to locate our confirmation email from them and send it back to them. Our room was on the 3rd floor of this hotel. There is no lift so we had to drag our 20kg suitcases up three very narrow and steep staircases to get to it. It felt dangerous walking down over 50 steep steps each morning and tiring climbing them at the day's end.
The room itself was really nice and kept at a great temperature although there's no fan in the bathroom and the entire room gets wet when you shower as there's no door or curtain. Breakfast was good but there is only an 1.5hr window and often things aren't restocked.

The staff was very nice and they helped us a lot with our luggage and directions about the city and transportation in general.
The room was small and very hot in summer season. However, the furniture seemed quite new and the bed was really comfortable. The room included a small fan that helped a little bit with the hot weather.
If you have any healthy issues related to climbing stairs, indicate it beforehands in your booking because the stairs are very very steep. Breakfast was good and varied.
The neighbourhood was really quiet. There is a tram station a block away from the hotel that takes you to the city centre. The hotel also offers a bike rental service and taxi booking.

Great location by Vondelpark and decent hotel

We loved being by the park and the neighborhood. It was super easy to get in and out of town. One quick tram ride and everyday we took the tram in and just walked our way back to the hotel using different routes. The room is what you pay for. Not amazing, but definitely comfortable enough! The staff is friendly.

The staff at the hotel were very helpful and cheerful. Thanks for a great experience.
However the room wasn't cleaned properly during the 3 nights we stayed, and there are no products like shampoo, conditioner etc, just a generic dispenser in the wet room. This was disappointing as the hotel advertises products.

Nice Stay

Stayed for 3 nights with my friend. Had a pleasant stay. Everything was perfect as needed. Its little bit away from the central but quite near to most of the attractions specially museums. However tram station is just near by if you want to go places. Will definitely come back again,

Great stay at Amsterdam. Lady at reception was helpful and kind. Very close to tram that links up to major tourist sites. All in all great value for money.

lovely hotel in very nice area

better hotel than expected. located in a lovely area, thought it might be run down but not at all. street was quiet at night but occaisionally noisy guests.

Hotel Wilhelmena

Great value hotel with good service. The rooms are a little tired but very clean and ours was massive! Decent breakfast and overall really good value for money. It is about 20 min walk to museum area which then connects to the city centre but has really good tram and bus links. Also nice little supermarket, bakery and restaurants all within 2 minute walk.

Nice breakfast, superb staff

Breakfast was plentiful, staff was really helpful and friendly, room and toilet was small, stairs narrow and steep (like any other house in Amsterdam)

Not the best staff, poor value for the money

Except for the cleaning personnel, the staff seemed unfriendly and unhelpful. The room was very small, and expensive for it's size. You receive two different clumsy key-cards which costs 10 euros to replace.

The rooms only contained basic comforts, like slow wifi and a small TV, but compared to other Amsterdam hotels it is definitely okay, but next time I will look for other opportunities.

Unsafe Staircase

We had to climb three flights of stairs that were small and steep, no elevators...really hard to bring up and down the luggage. Would not recommend for elderlies and people with disabilities

Painful and hot

We were on the top floor. No cooling and it was very hot and hard to sleep. The room was very small and the only way up with heavy bags was several trips up 3 flights of stairs that were very small and very steep.
A great place for someone to take a fall. Everything seems to be a charge and a deposit from the room key, the safe key (Safe is to small to hold much of anything. It could not hold an IPad.) I would highly NOT recommend this hotel.

Stairs and service

Hi my name is brenda i come from scotland ...i stayed at this hotel from 5 may to 7 may ....Firstly the girll at reception a bit tired not very helpful ...also restrriced to 2 sachets of coffee so we just asked for more ...the hotel is in the New sloten area about 7 tramstops from hotel ...tram stop 200 yrd from hotel...wen we arrived we were given a double room with no space a pokey little room so i complasined staright away as we booked a budget twin with toilet ...we got a decent room size that night our room was very nice and comfy ....when going to Damrak or squrae its the number 2 tram u get from central ,,,,overall out of 10 i would rate 3 wouldnt return as would just wait till there and book something nearer central Dam xx but our trip was a grt time ...we went for a robbie williams concert so we were pleased with the break xx

Nice hotel in quite location

Great hotel,staff are friendly and helpful and the room was comfortable and clean. Close to the tram stop and is in quite local area.

Good location, perfect on those on a budget

Stayed there 2 nights during the trade show, friendly staff, good breakfast, 1-star (though quite clean) room, good location, walking distance to Museum Quarter or even downtown (if you like to walk :-))

Nice hotel: Great location

Great location and nice staff. Hotel was clean and facilities were provided. Only problem is i don't understand why we have to pay €35 for a Safe that is not even drilled to the wall.

I had chosen the hotel for its location and was quite dissatisfied to be moved to a different hotel further away from where I needed to be, due to some maintenance Work going on at the hotel, so not a good rating. The alternative hotel put me in a very small basement room with significant noise, so I will not choose either of these two hotels for a future stay.

Good location, but lacked basic comforts

The room was clean and very close to the tram. However, the room didn't appear to be ventilated. It got extremely warm and humid even with the heat turned off. We had to prop the door open to get fresh air and cool the room down. This was when the temperature outside was quite cool.

one star rated- what do you expect?

Normal price for this hotel was around $50. However, I stopped over at Amsterdam for the first time in my life and I had to take the opportunity to have a one day tour of the city. I was in a bad luck day that on this day of 3 September there was some kind of big conference going on. Every hotels had jacked up their prices. A regular 3 star hotel asking for $300 to $500 a night. I search many websites and settled with this one starred hotel for $206 or else I had to stay on the street.
