My stay at Neighbor’s Magnolia was disappointing from arrival to checkout. I checked-in at 11am and was told I couldn’t access my room until 2pm and would have to change rooms mid visit. When I asked they said it was because my room would be getting a bathroom renovation.
The first room had serious issues: an absurdly dim overhead light, black mold in the bathroom, a foul smell from the shower drain, and only a toggle lamp instead of proper bathroom lighting.
The desk lamp flickered constantly. Reception promised a replacement bulb that day—it never came. I requested complimentary laundry service, assured it’d be ready by afternoon—it wasn’t. The next day, staff finally sourced a bulb from another room and committed to next-day laundry. Their welcome guide promised bedding, toiletries, and trash service every three days during my 9-day stay—this never happened in either room.
The second room lacked a shower curtain (tracks “not yet delivered”), forcing me to shower with belongings outside as water went everywhere without the curtain. Construction noise from the hotel’s renovations from 8am to midnight persisted throughout my stay, audible in both rooms. The second room’s door knocked constantly in the draft.
Positives: excellent location near Vondelpark and genuinely nice staff who promptly replaced my lost keycard. However, the combination of maintenance failures, unfulfilled promises, construction disruption, and basic hygiene concerns means I won’t return.

The construction on the room next to be happened form 8am until 9pm the first night and 11pm the 2nd. Night. The 3rd night i was told I needed to switch rooms, which was fine as it was way quieter. Staff was all nice and its good they are remodeling the rooms. Just maybe dont rent the rooms on the same floor the construction is.

This property is in a great location. Lovely neighborhood. Lots of dining options. Our room was spacious but not in great condition. Curtains were falling off the tracks. Terrible smell when we arrived. Bathroom is in rough shape. Limited utensils in the kitchen.

To start with the good: The location is excellent, the staff are friendly, and my bed was comfortable. The room price is also good for this part of Amsterdam,

Unfortunately there is plenty to disappoint with the hotel. The personnel at reception were unable to correctly issue me with a key card for my room, twice. The entrance area, stairs and landings were not clean, with stained carpets and dirt on the floor. I stayed for 5 nights and not once was my room cleaned, my bed made, my towels changed, or my toiletries refreshed. Although there was a kettle in the room, there was no tea or coffee. The room was mostly clean but there were multiple stains on the walls.

Very cozy hotel, for us it was perfect because we needed a room for three adults. We got a room with very comfortable beds and a mini kitchen with all we needed to cook. A store nearby for food and drink supplies. We had a great time and the staff was nice and helpful, all of them but a special mention for Casper.

Best hotel staff ever!!

The hotel was fantastic. Great location, beautiful and comfortable room, but, above all, the staff were incredible. Casper and Victoria made me feel totally at home and went out of their way to make sure I had everything I needed. It felt more like staying with family than at a hotel. I will definitely be staying here next time I'm in the 'Dam!

I’m amazed at how these places stay in business.
Tired, dingy, dark with every aspect lacking any sort of care or consideration.
Christmas decorations still up in mid-March gives an idea of the attention to detail!
I booked a room with a balcony as I am a smoker. Told on arrival I couldn’t have that. Instead, they put me 2 floors up (no lift) with a death-trap steep staircase with steps so shallow only half your foot fits.
Very old mattresses only made fractionally better by the addition of a topper. Freezing cold room. Tacky carpet tiles on the floor. Thin doors so you hear everything outside your door and thin walls so had to listen to the room next door snoring.
Cheap kettle with short cord so can’t reach the desk and no spoon to stir your instant coffee with.
3 miserable days spent here. A mistake I won’t be making again!

But, the room was clean, staff were fantastic, and it’s in a lovely suburb 5 minutes walk from the tram into town.

It is a friendly, homely hotel, which looks rather tired. The room was big and the bed very comfortable. If narrow, steep stairs are not your thing, this is not the hotel for you. It is convenient to reach on the number 2 tram and is close to the museum quarter. We would definitely stay here again.

We booked an almost last minute trip to Amsterdam on a budget and this did the job.
Firstly, the hotel is located in a lovely area of Amsterdam, nice to walk around and close to the park. The tram stop is just a short walk at the end of the road and the number 2 will take you into central (around 15 mins). A short 10/15 minute walk into the museum part where there are loads of bars and restaurants too.
We stayed on the first floor at the front of the hotel. The room itself was fine, quite narrow but we weren’t stepping over each other. However, the room does get very hot in the summer (they do provide a selection of fans, which is good!) but if the window is open, you can hear the cars and trams. The walls are also quite thin and could hear our neighbours entire phone conversation! If you’re a light sleeper, consider bringing ear plugs!
The room was clean but found after our first day, they didn’t do a routine clean. We popped the ‘please clean’ sign outside the door the next day but they only changed one towel. We weren’t overly bothered but I would have liked the sink cleaned, at least, every day.
We didn’t have a lot of interaction with the staff, but check in and check out was quick and easy enough.
Would probably stay in a different hotel next time we visit but in general, it did the job fine.
Pros - cheap and good location
Cons - thin walls and rooms not cleaned everyday

Mix feelings about this hotel. As a 1800 building there is no elevator and stairs are really steep, hard to get your luggage up. Expedia did not mention this. Single rooms are very small, good that a lugage holder is provided, there is no closet just clothes hanger on the wall; washbasin was literally inside the shower. My friends' room had WC inside the shower. Amenities and room are not checked regularly. My friends window was broken did not close, staff new about it long before. As for amenities I had to ask for floor towel and mugs, which my friends' room had. Heard many people ask for towels or other stuff which the room lacked. Soap provided was a tiny tiny bar. On the other hand staff is very nice and breakfast good. Location in nice residential area away from citycenter with tram stop and bus to airport just around the corner. 15 minute walk to museums. Nice restaurants around the block and some chic boutiques too.

As a business and leisure traveler, one learns to appreciate the 5-star service from staff in hotels and restaurants.
The Neighbour's Magnolia offers a very convenient location, I had selected a small room which was perfect for my stay, buy I received the attention as I had a presidential suite. It has the tram at only a few meters away and you can walk to all attractions in old Amsterdam. Will definitely stay again.

The room was super dirty: the dust between the towel radiator parts looked older than I am. They told it was cleaned daily... Also the toilet and the sinks were either leaking (sink one) or had blocked drains (toilet and sink two). Every time one of us had to use the toilet we were afraid it would overflow, so we tried not to use it at all.
Finally, also the beds were old and not comfortable at all, the pillows huge but crumply inside, and we did not feel safe given that it was a ground floor / basement room with a door to a little terrace (with dirty ashtrays), which did not look like it could hold against a strong push. This all was topped with a disgusting smell of super sweet room sentence, which tried and failed to cover the weed smell in the whole hotel.

Nice little hotel on the tram line

I was on my own and the small twin room was perfect. The street it faces was a bit busier than I expected but the fan provided in the room created a nice distraction. The staff were fantastic! One note- the stairs are no joke- very steep! This would not be a suitable place for anyone that is unable to climb steep stairs.

I wouldn't really recommend this place, it wasn't bad just not anything special or at all above average. One of the receptionists was very nice, the others standoffish. I am glad I didn't pay for their breakfast. The check-in area was fine but the rest was run down. It was at the end of the museum district so a good walk to the sites. They were not flexible at all, most hotels are at least a little.

Disliked: 3 flights of very steep, narrow and twisty stairs (negotiating these with luggage was absolutely impossible for a couple of seniors - it seems this stair pattern is very command in the Netherlands but it did cause us serious issues (we’re both fit but the combination of heavy bags and a steep narrow staircase defeated us.) Very hot on top floor - portable air conditioner provided was little help; some rather crude wiring and no servicing of the room

Perfect for our weekend away

We went to Amsterdam for TwitchCon EU 2022 from Friday - Monday and this hotel was perfect for us. Was only a 30 minute walk to the arena and was a 5 minute walk away from one of the local parks. The stay was just what we needed with the included breakfast buffet being exactly what we needed to start our day. The staff were friendly and helped us out when we needed it (forgot our UK to EU plug adapter and they gave us a spare one to use). The room was nice and spacious and the complimentary water, fruit and hot drinks went down a treat after a long day at the Convention. Would 100% stay here if we were to visit Amsterdam again!

The staff is SO RUDE! Every question I asked or interaction I had with the front desk was uncomfortable and cold. Our bathroom was dirty, I have pictures of a dirty tissue on the floor and hairs in our tub when we first walked in. Cleaning service banged on our door at 9am, right before we had to board a 10 hour flight. Look elsewhere, there are plenty of other options in the area.

Pleasant, well located for Museum Quarter, hotel

Well placed hotel just off the main museum quarter - 5-10 min walk. 5 min walk to Vondelpark. Very nice restaurants nearby. 10-15 mins to Rijksmuseum. All main city centre attractions within 20-35 mins walk. Nice friendly staff, good idea to have honesty fridge in reception with beers and water you can add on to your room and with free tea/coffee. The info on the website about catching the 397 bus from the airport was helpful but not quite accurate as currently the quoted bus stop Emmastraat is closed so had to go to Museumplein on advice. Its also 6.50 euros not 5 as stated, minor things but not helpful when you're visiting for the first time and assume that info is correct! (No cash on buses also, pre tickets or card payments only). Room was clean and functionable. Street side was a little noisy until afer 11pm bu ok. Room had kettle for tea/coffee and you can request a friedge etc. Free Wifi was good. Would use again.

Super friendly service. I had a single room which was a good size for me. Great shower. Clean. Fruit and bottled water left in the room (it was really hot, so needed!). Free tea/coffee hot chocolate. A few minutes from Vondelpark. Really lovely area to be based in. If you are relatively fit/healthy its only about a 30 minute walk into centre otherwise no.2 tram is perfect.

This is a really pleasant place to stay in Amsterdam. It's a short 6-minute walk down the street to the Museumplein and Concertgebouw, but it's surprisingly quiet. It's also extremely well connected to Schiphol Airport by the express bus that stops a few blocks away from the hotel. There are plenty of dining options in the neighborhood and a serviceable Albert Heijn close by. The twin room that I shared with a friend felt rather narrow, but the private access to an outdoor terrace, with magnolia and cherry blossom trees in bloom, more than made up for the size of the room. I'd definitely stay here again.

The room was not the cleanest and made my allergies act up pretty bad (dust, etc) & the lighting was very dim in the room.

Hotel staff was super friendly and helpful. Room was clean and spacious. It was up three flights of narrow, steep stairs, but that's just an Amsterdam thing, not the hotel. I loved having a tea kettle and tea in my room whenever I wanted. It's a minor luxury, but oh so wonderful when it's cold! A 15ish minute walk to museum district and less than a block from public transportation for everything else.

Perfect spot in Amsterdam

I love this place! My room was nice, clean, and had everything I needed. I rented one of their bikes for the week and got around that way. Its in a great neighborhood, close to Vonderpark and the Museumplatz. Tasty breakfast selection and friendly staff. Its in a lovely Amsterdam style building, so the are rooms are a bit small and steps are steep, but that was fine with me.

Really nice little hotel, very close to Vondelpark and the Museum area. Helpful staff, you assisted us with navigating our stay in Amsterdam, A couple of things that the traveller should know before they book here: 1) There is no elevator in the hotel, and the stairs are steep and narrow. Our room was on the top (3rd) floor. It was hard work to get our bags up and down there. Someone with mobility issues may want to consider somewhere else. 2) The top floor room we had was very nice. But, it was very very hot. There is no AC in the hotel. They do give multiple fans to help cool yourself, but it was very warm (FYI, it was unseasonably hot while we were there). I would stay here again, but if either of those 2 caveats concern you, then it may not work for you.

Staff were very responsive and took care of a problem with the shower as soon as we reported it. The location was perfect for sightseeing in Amsterdam. The only downside was the high cost for a room for three.

Convenient location and wonderful staff

Staff are very friendly and helpful. Delicious coffee and fruits to treat hotel guests in the lobby. Room is great and comfortable. Quiet neighborhood and woke up with the birds chirping :)

Good location for the museums

This is a basic acceptable hotel that seemed a bit pricey because of the neighbourhood it’s located in. We were able to walk to the museums and catch a tram to the old town just down the block. Staff were friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable. There is no elevator and the stairs are quite steep. One set of electrical outlets in our room did not work. Room cleaning was spotty - our dirty coffee cups were left and not replaced until we took them downstairs to exchange. Bathroom was clean and comfortable with a very good shower.
We were in Amsterdam a week earlier and stayed in a different boutique hotel in a neighbourhood a few kilometres east. It was very similar to this hotel but less expensive, likely because it was in a more modest location.

Nice, small, and quirky isn't the half of it

This is a small hotel just off the vondelpark and south of the museumplein, right on the Tram line #2. Really a converted house with a few rooms (all small) on a couple of floors. Steep stairs, as everywhere in the Netherlands, and no lift but they will help carry bags if you ask. No closets or such, lots of ways to hang things on the wall. My room had a small desk and chair and a tiny bathroom. The shower was integrated into the bathroom and a squeegee was provided for the aftermath. The lobby/reception/breakfast room is all integrated into one. A nice place for people that want a more intimate experience. Easy to get around town on the Trams or buses, even to the airport. About 15 minutes on the tram to the centraal train station.

Good value near the museum district, comfortable

a decent location not far from the museums district, not quite 5 stars because things werent quite right, although the cost of the stay was very reasonable and the room warm on a cold day ...issues were simple, towels were replaced even though hung up every day, whilst tea and coffee sachets used werent replaced, and there is no reception after 11pm which was a pain the day our e-card stopped working and we were back at 11.15pm

Amazin location

I have visited amsterdam for 3 days and I stayed in this hotel. I had a small single room that very cosy and sweet. Also had amazing view of classical dutch houses that felt like im local. Location of hotel was great that you can go to the museums square in 5 min by walking and you can also access to the city center by tram in 5 min as well.

Nice, quiet, friendly staff

Nice little guest house. Good for price. Quiet neighborhood with tram stop a couple of minutes away. About 10 mins walk to main museums. Staff friendly, rooms clean and adequate. The building is a traditional Amsterdam house so has some steep stairs, so not great if you have mobility issues. All I'm all a nice place to stay. I would recommend to a friends looking to stay somewhere not too pricey.

Great location, wonderful staff

While the rooms are basic, it’s what one would expect for the price range in Amsterdam. What really makes the hotel great, however, are the staff and the location. The staff all go out of their way to help you any way they can, and Willemspark is one of the loveliest areas of Amsterdam — and thankfully not crowded with tourists.

Friendly hotel in the museum quarter .

Convenient location, not in the centre of Amsterdam but only a 20 minute tram ride to the station. Very helpful staff. Attractive reception and bright and cosy dining area. Very narrow stairs so don't suggest taking a very large case although staff happy to help. In need of some new carpet in the property next door. Would certainly stay there again if ever in Amsterdam again.

GREAT location in a traditional dutch street

Nice clean no fuss hotel situated just on the edge of the main city area, only half hour walk to main attractions through a great park, alternatively catch a tram almost right outside the hotel which takes 5 or ten minutes, or a little longer to the other side of the city, maybe 20 mins to red light area.

The area around is delightful, the nearby cafes, bars and restaurants are outstanding

Friendly basic hotel

This was one of the few hotels in Amsterdam that was affordable for a government funded work trip. They had excellent communications about a possible late arrival, offered a free drink and were very helpful at reception (e.g. printing travel instructions). The room was basic but fine and not noisy at night.
