Stop scrolling and just book this hotel. It is so wonderful. The property is gorgeous and in the heart of the museum distract. Literally steps away from the Van Gogh, Momo, and Rijk. There was great shopping and restaurants within a 5-10 minute walk. There is an above group tram stop steps away. I recommend getting a pass for that during your stay. Also, we were there for christmas and the museum quarter has the best and largest christmas market in town, also steps away! We stayed in the medium room with a balcony. Breakfast was nice and light with amazing juices and they had a mini bar open all day free for guests. We didnt try it but they also have free bike rentals. I cant recommend this hotel enough!

Absolutely wonderful hotel. Nicely decorated with communal areas you actually want to spend time in. Large room in excellent condition. Free alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks 24/7, and high quality snacks served every afternoon. Breakfast of more limited selection but all good quality. Well positioned near the major museums and tram network. A bargain at the price!

Both the neighborhood and hotel are extremely charming (though the narrow, steep stairs are a surprise for an American! You can always use the elevator!) The street has lovely large trees. Museums are minutes away on foot, as are canals. We did experience disturbing street noise late at night when we stayed in a room facing the street (loud yelling, revving motorcycles, etc.), but another room facing the back was very quiet. You have the feeling of staying in a bed and breakfast, as breakfast options are extensive, and there is always wine and beer available for no charge.

We spent two days visiting Amsterdam. The hotel was in a wonderful location as we walked everywhere. Quiet, clean, amazingly comfortable beds, and terrific service. Highly recommend!

Can be improved

The hotel is in excellent location. It’s a lively hotel as well. And the staff is extremely friendly. However there are couple of things that can be improved on - the lights throughout are abysmal. You can barely see much in the room. The bathroom is not comfortable- it’s hard to get into the tub to get a shower- the door is too large. I’m slender and I had problems getting in. Also the makeup mirror and the hair dryer are extremely high. I can’t reach them, I’m 5ft. And on top of this as I mentioned before it’s very dark.

We had a wonderful week long stay. The hotel offers many free amenities like a full breakfast, cocktail hour with snacks and drinks, laundry service, nice common areas. They are centrally located but on a quiet, safe street. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Highly recommend!

We stayed for a week at this property in mid August, 2025. We were a first floor room, so we didn't really take advantage of the balcony as it was really on the sidewalk. The area is wonderful, walkable to multiple museums, the park, and high end shopping. The shared living space was wonderful, and the breakfast was really an outstanding addition. Our room was a little beat, just little things primarily in the bathroom, but otherwise a really great space. Only complaint I could have is a bit of a sewer smell in the hall and room on some of the days, but this could have been beyond the control of the hotel--so I did not make a complaint. Staff up front weren't overly friendly, but absolutely willing to help when requested. It was honestly a great spot, and we'd stay again.

Property was lovely. Located in an excellent location and the common spaces were plentiful and decorated beautifully. The breakfast was good and the free snack/mini bar in the lobby all day was a huge plus. The rooms and hallways were a bit less rennovated than the common areas and the shower was set up a bit awkwardly. Overall it was a solid value!

Good Stay in Amsterdam

We really enjoyed Amsterdam and this hotel. It's a great quiet and safe neighborhood and the rooms are very comfortable, and I thought appropriately priced. The breakfast was good, although I would have liked some type of eggs with it besides the hard-boiled ones.

When we were leaving, we decided to check out at the desk. Big mistake. The person at the desk decided to claim that we weren't paid in full and that we owed $2,000. If that was the case, which it wasn't, why did they give us a key for 3-4 days? It was disappointing that we had to prove that we were paid in full. She acted like she didn't believe us. We almost missed our Uber. Regardless, it didn't dampen our stay. we enjoyed the stay very much.

Bernardo and Mercedes were so kind and friendly. I didn’t get the woman who helped put the breakfast buffet out but she was also lovely. We got back to the hotel late one night and another woman working the front desk helped us order a pizza. They allow one laundry load done per room, we are still missing some riding pants but I will contact them and see if we can get them back. Overall, lovely experience! Five stars.

This hotel was a real find. Located on a quiet street in a great location near Museum Square, it is a quirky but charming building with comfortable rooms and very friendly staff. The hotel has a simple but excellent breakfast every morning and lots of extras at no extra charge like 24 hour help yourself drinks (both non and alcoholic) and laundry service. This is our new go to in Amsterdam!

Even when the weather in Amsterdam was grey and damp, this hotel was a gem! We stayed in a Medium room which was perfect. Wonderful bed, quiet streets, amazing drinks. They even provided a free laundry service. And also allowed me to store my luggage for a few days while I travelled to around Europe. Highly recommend.

Excellent service! The staff was very friendly and incredibly helpful on many occasions. Also, the breakfast was great and the late afternoon drinks and snacks were excellent! High quality wine, beer, liquor, salami, cheese, crackers, olives, etc. were a wonderful touch! We love the concept of the Jan Luyken where you get these extra goodies, as much as you want. Plus, one free laundry service during our stay was much appreciated. Great neighborhood, walkable, and conveniently located near the Van Gogh Museum, with a large, beautiful park nearby. Downsides: The room's appearance was not visually appealing. The art, the weird, mismatched fabric on the headboard, and the strange colors gave it an elevated hostel look. Additionally, our bathroom sink and bathtub sink didn't drain well at all, and although we reported the issue more than once, it was not addressed during our stay. So, a mixed bag.

Despite being only about five minutes from museum square, this hotel is on a quiet street with little traffic. Our room had an alcove framed by a large window filled by a street tree in bloom. This created a peaceful ambience. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I downgrade the furnishings by half a star because our room had only one chair. It was beside the table in the alcove. There was room for a second one on the other side; in fact there was what looked like space provided for a second chair. I brought this to the attention of reception but they were unable to fix this omission which made the room somewhat inconvenient for two people.

Although my review is positive- and I liked the hotel it has special features and is homey- personally challenging experience with the organization- and I would caution guests to get receipts and clarify with the staff what is happening in terms of charges- As their system was changing. It was not idea timing- but they made large financial errors l- I thought about not mentioning but felt it might be useful for others to know.

The location is excellent for visiting the Rijkmuseum and VanGogh museum. If your into very high end shopping one block away are Prada,Celine,Hermes and so on. The room was adequate for one person, however, the bathroom is another story. The hairdryer was mounted so high I could not reach it, 5\"2\" tall. When I enquired at the front desk about this I was given a stool to use to reach it. I'm not sure this is the best solution for a paying guest to be using a step stool to access something that should be readily reachable by anyone. Second the shower was very slippery and dangerous. There were no hand bars and one could easily have fallen in it. These things definitely made my impression of this hotel less than favorable.

Great little hotel. Recommended, particularly for the townhouse concept. Breakfast buffet, evening light snacks and drinks all included.

Cannot fault the location if you’re coming for the Rijksmuseum or Van Gogh, although Amsterdam is a such a small city using the public transport (tram and bus stops less than 2 minutes away) or walking are all easy options.

Advice - Can only comment on the “small” rooms, adequate for a short 3-4 nights stay but you might find you need a larger one if you’re travelling with more luggage or staying for a week.

I’d be very happy to stay there again.

The people that worked in the kitchen were really nice as well as housekeeping. When I checked out the woman didn’t even thank me for staying there.

The property is unique. The commons areas are welcoming and convenient. We stayed here to be close to the art museums, and if you can dodge the bikers and trams for a five-eight minute walk, you will love the experience. The cocktail spread was all we needed for that evening meal, though we did find nearby restaurants that were fun. Breakfast at the hotel was delightful. Most wonderful was the kindness of the lovely women running the hotel. We felt welcomed in Amsterdam thanks to them.

We recently stayed at The Pand Hotel in Amsterdam, and it exceeded all our expectations. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel incredibly welcome. Their warm hospitality and attention to detail truly set this hotel apart.
The room was spacious, impeccably clean, and beautifully decorated, offering a perfect blend of comfort and luxury. We had a corner room with large window views of the city street. The large black out curtains gave us a cozy, dark and private room for bedtime.
The on-site facilities were uniquely communal making the experience more enjoyable. The fresh breakfast options were both quick and delicious.
There was always a pleasant and helpful staff member in the open lobby area, ready to answer any question or help with any need. They really enhanced our stay.
The hotel's location is ideal, situated within a short walk of multiple museums. We visited the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh museum on separate days. It was nice having our room nearby after a long day of walking.
Despite the central location, the hotel provided a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle. It felt like we were in a quiet residential neighborhood.
Overall, our experience was exceptional. Of the three hotels we visited on this trip, this was our favorite. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone seeking quality accommodations in near the Amsterdam museums but enjoy a peaceful evening. We look forward to returning on our next visit.

The hotel was located a short walk from the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum. The free drinks all day were lovely and the breakfast was decent. The staff was friendly and the hotel had a nice vibe.

The room was stinky like a sewer, as many have complained. We were in room 401, and I read a review from someone in room 411 who also had the same foul smell permeate their room. I am not sure if it is a 4th floor problem. I think they are well-aware of the issue, so we didn't bother to complain, but every time we came back to the room after our sightseeing, the smell hit us hard.

It is a lovely townhouse in a nice area, but the stinky nature of the bathroom would discourage me from staying again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Jan Luyken! The property is a perfect mix of stylish and cozy. The staff were all lovely and very helpful. Location is in a very ideal location. It’s on a quiet, beautiful street but close to everything. Airport bus drops off a block from the hotel - super convenient! Despite booking the smallest room, it still had good light and felt comfortable. We are so happy to have found this gem in Amsterdam and will happily be staying there again!

My husband and I had a wonderful stay. The staff was excellent. This was like a home away from home. The rooms are spacious and nicely decorated. The nice touch is having drinks, coffee, and pastries available all day. Evenings were wonderful in the lounge area where other guests gather to socialize, have a glass of wine or an appetizer. We can’t wait to come back again next year. The only negative that I can find is that there isn’t another Jan Luyken in other cities in Europe.

What a gem of a hotel! My room was pretty small (it was called a “Small” after all) and the stairs were very steep and narrow (seems to be normal for Amsterdam), but my room could not have been more comfortable and the service at the hotel could not have been more friendly and helpful. It is not a 5-star hotel, so expecting that type and level of service would be a mistake. It has a vibe and service more like a bed and breakfast or boutique inn. Come with a good attitude and reasonable expectations and you will love this hotel.
