Very clean, very well kept. Lovely staff. Nice little touch to put the suitcases in our room after we left them until check in time. Room was cosy with high ceilings and a lovely balcony door. Good tv and channel selection. Fantastic location for us. 6 min walk from the bus to take you to and from the airport. (Bus 397).

The construction around the hotel is inconvenient as well as the location of my room. The room numbers are confusing, and I had to take stairs to my room, which was not fun to do with all my luggage. Also, the front desk person would not really pay attention to the door as we had to be buzzed in there was a time that we waited for about 1520 minutes to get in

Management was extremely disrespectful. We checked in having three people not knowing only two was allowed because the booking site just said there would be an extra fee for another person. We brought the third person into our room to figure out where he would stay and they told us that he had to leave in 15 minutes. When he left they said he must bring down his luggage to hold. We told them that we were sharing luggage since we were just in France for 2 weeks. The manager told us no and we had to have at least one luggage downstairs. I talked to Expedia to see if the could put us somewhere else but it was to late for a refund and the insurance policy didn’t cover the situation so please be aware of the insurance you buy with them. After I talked to Expedia the situation escalated. I asked if we weren’t allowed to have visitors and they said we could from 8am-5pm, but our friend was kicked out at 3pm with no choice to leave or not. They said if he was there not within visiting hours we would have a $340 fee and be kicked out instantly. When we got back at night on the first night we got locked out of our room and when we asked the guy receptionist he said it doesn’t happen often. The second morning we had someone come into our room while we were sleeping at 7am where we could only assume he was checking for a third person. We are extremely disappointed with the service and felt very uncomfortable the whole stay. We are people of color and young and felt very targeted.

Arrived late after a long day of travel. Friendly greeting on arrival. Hotel is a rabbit warren of hallways and rooms. Couldn’t find our room, back to front desk for assistance.
Up steep wooden stairs with large cases.
Room was small, dark, smelt weird and was rustic and VERY worn and tired.
Safe in room was not attached to anything so not so safe!!
Door to outside walkway fell off when opened. Carpet was old and very stained.
Pros: bed clean and comfortable and bathroom clean and modern.
Very central and easy to access city.
Management offered to change rooms but as we were only in Amsterdam for 2 nights and 1 day we declined as we wanted to see the city not hang about the hotel getting things sorted.
Hotel needs a facelift to earn 4 stars.
Would not recommend to anyone.

I really enjoyed my stay at Hotel Van de Vijsel. Everything was spotless, and the staff went out of their way to be friendly and helpful, which made me feel welcome right away. My favorite part was honestly the location — it couldn’t be more convenient. I loved being able to walk to most of the city center and explore without needing transportation. It made my trip so much easier and more enjoyable. Overall, a wonderful place to stay and one I’d happily return to.

After a long travel day from the states the shower felt great! The bed was comfortable, albeit in an upstairs loft, which we were not aware of when booking. So if stairs are an issue for you just know that’s a problem.

Located on the perimeter of the city and walkable (~30 miniutes) to the Amsterdam Central station. 2 min walk from the nearest tram station. Rooms are well-designed, furniture is slightly under-equipped (narrow desk and chair cannot comfortably fit in the space between the desk and the bed) but has the basic things you need. Kettle lid was broken and some visible wear and tear in the room, but was very clean.

Really enjoyed our three night stay at Hotel van de Vijsel. It's very convenient located close to the Vondrelpark, the Museumplein and the Leidseplein. The hotel is quiet with an excellent air conditioning system and comfortable bed. It was our wedding anniversary, so I ordered there special package of bubbly, chocolates, balloons and petals. My wife loved the surprise and the bubbly was a gorgeous Spanish Cava and the chocs were delicious. Well done Hotel van de Vijsel!

You might be looking at this hotel and thinking, \"Seems like a modern, hip hotel in a convenient area of Amsterdam for a good price -- I should book it!\" Did you know, however, that in a city which famously resides below sea level, it's possible for hotel rooms to be in the basement? Neither did I. For four nights, I descended to level \"Minus 1\" and passed cleaning supplies and bags of sheets from other, presumably above ground, rooms in the hotel, all of which was stored in the hallway. My room's only window looked out onto a courtyard shared with the lobby, so employees and guests could conveniently peer into my subterranean dwelling. In the hallway, the cleaning staff often looked startled to see me, as if I'd wandered into a part of the building where I wasn't supposed to be. \"No!\" I wanted to say to them. \"You don't understand! I was assigned to live down here, despite paying the same price as guests staying on the upper floors.\" I didn't, but I do know that I won't be back.

Great Hotel just adjacent to Leidseplein.
Room ok size, very comfortable bed , excellent powerful shower, view was of another hotel breakfast room. Bit of noise bleed from other rooms, doors closing etc…. But not dreadful.
Really nicely decorated and very clear
Front of house staff very helpful.
Breakfast basic, not worth the money and the honesty bar/fridge was locked up a bit early for a late evening night cap.
Over all good stay and I’d stay again.

On the plus side:
1) The cleaning crew were very nice.
2) The room was larger than expected.
3) The shower was excellent.

On the negative:
1) Gaslighting -- I was told at 5 am that I had not ordered an airport taxi for that day. When the night clerk let it slip that my room number had ordered a cab, he had to admit he had given it to another client.
2) Poor Service and Limited Equipment -- It took an hour for the front desk to tell me there were no irons available.
3) Unprofessionalism -- The front desk staff are insufferable and uninterested in doing their basic jobs. In addition, they bad mouthed other clientele within my hearing.

BED BUGS

We booked this hotel for 7 nights based on their reviews, 4/5 rating, spent a lot per night only to find BED BUGS in our hotel bed and our blood smeared on the sheets. We took videos of the bugs, photos of the blood and went to show the receptionist and her eyes nearly popped out of her head. When she went to get the manager, he was \"in the back,\" she came back solo saying he was busy. I'm sorry, there is nothing more important than BED BUGS in a hotel. We were in town for the Taylor Swift show so she told us all hotels were booked so she couldnt move us, the only option was downgrade our room to a double bed in the hotel, we booked a suite so we had more space for our luggage. We set up a meeting with the manager, named Phillip but he told Expedia his name was Alexander, for the next morning at 9am, we slept absolutely horribly, itching all over, and worrying we would have bugs in the new room as well. So by 9am we were so upset. When I met the manager, he was not phased by the bed bugs at all, he said its NORMAL and happens all the time and all they could do for us was comp us ONE night. So after some research, bed bugs are NOT NORMAL and the protocol is to high heat dry and wash all of your clothes and throw away luggage. Not only that, the hotel has a history of bed bugs over the last 2 years and the reviews show the hotel completely refunded the guests for the HUGE inconvenience. This hotel absolutely DOES NOT CARE if your room has BED BUGS.

I booked a double room (small) in this hotel. Whilst I didn’t expect a massive room,the size and facilities in this room made it inhabitable for 2 people. We were positioned in the front of the hotel facing the main road, the noise from party goers was never ending. The front reception staff on checkin were very unfriendly and unhelpful- this did improve however towards the end of our 3 night stay. All in all I would definitely not recommend a stay in this hotel.

The room didn’t have any storage for clothes which made it difficult to keep the room tidy. Likewise with the shower- nowhere to put toiletries other than the floor. my boyfriend would sit in the lobby at night to do work while i slept and a staff member told him one night he can’t do so because he’d “disturb the guests.” his work consisted of him being silent with headphones on while on his computer. i liked the aesthetic of the hotel but it just felt too cramped

Expect great design, Nespresso machine in the room and mostly friendly staff. Most of all, a perfect central location minutes away from designer stores and the museum square. However, these are the only positive aspects.

The rooms are very small and dark as there is only indirect lighting. The mattress, pillow and sheets were extremely low-quality and uncomfortable.

There was NO WIFI during our entire stay. A members of staff told us to come down and use reception WiFi. Nevertheless, after no longer than 10 minutes another staff member told us that they could not allow us any longer in the reception for “safety issues”.

The cleaning is below average and the room clearly needs manteinance work (e.g. missing light switch and outlet plug).

My partner and I stayed at this hotel for two nights for our first trip to Amsterdam and really enjoyed it. The location was very convenient for getting around the city, the room had a cozy, cabin-like feel, and the complimentary breakfast was delicious. Would highly recommend!

This property was just ok. We politely requested a quiet room, and got put in the noisiest room, on the front of the property, right by the road, and above the main entrance. The pillows are rock hard, the shower drain was blocked and would flood the bathroom, and little things were broken, like the wall hooks. The bed however is very large, coffee is provided, and the room is a nice design. Overall the stay was okay, but not worth the price. The location is however very convenient.

The hotel is in a great location and the staff were lovely. The rooms were small but well-appointed and generally good. The only downside was that some of the maintenance and cleaning, primarily in the common areas, was in need of some attention. For instance, the floor in the main elevator was quite dirty and had an obvious dip in it, like the wood had been water damaged and was giving out. It made us (and others in the elevator with us) joke that we felt we might fall through the floor. Also a few specks of mold/mildew in the shower... no big deal but just noticeable.

Never again! It was our wedding anniversary trip to Amsterdam. We traveled with our 3-year-old daughter. Since the hotel's policy in regards to kids unclear, I called and ask specifically if it was okay to stay with a 3-year-old without an extra bed. A male hotel representative answered that it was totally fine not to book an extra bed for our child. Upon arrival, they asked us to pay for a baby cot (where a 3-year-old doesn't fit) 15 euro per night claiming that it was their safety policy. We had to pay even though we did not use that baby cot. In addition, the mattresses on our bed, which was made of two single beds , were always sliding off. How about that safety issue, managers of the hotel???

One of the best hotels we have stayed in Amsterdam so far! Room was huge and bathroom was amazing! 10/10. The room had a dark, cosy feel to it with minimal natural light - but we loved it. Great location, comfy bed. Great for a short stay.

The hotel is situated in a great position within walking distance to numerous attractions. We stayed in a twin room which was small and cosy and the bed was really comfy after a busy day exploring the city.
The rooms are dark with no real natural light getting in and the lighting is dim however from our perspective this did not impact our stay.
It appeared from the photos when booking that we would have some outside space through patio doors however on arrival it was apparent that the doors are for emergency use only and no outside space was available. Whilst a little disappointing it did not significantly impact on our stay.
The staff are very friendly and willing to assist with all enquiries in a professional manner.
Overall, a clean, calm, modern hotel in a fantastic location with a really comfortable bed and friendly staff.
Would we stay here again though?
For a short stay possibly but if we're returning for a longer stay then we would probably look elsewhere.

The first night the AC in our room died. The staff were excellent in responding. When it could not be fixed immediately they moved us to a bigger room and gave us 2 complimentary drinks. We would definitely stay here again.

We had such a fab stay here.. so central to everything you could want, we only caught a tram once as everything is walkable from here. The staff were so polite and helpful. Hotel itself clean and house cleaning every day made it lovely. The shower was dreamy .. and having actual coffee pods was great in the morning. The doors got locked unless you have a key card in evening so it felt safe. It was lush and have recommended too friends! Only perk we could've done with is a fan as it was super hot for sleeping :D

Great location, beds good, shower great. In my opinion, only good for one or two nights as the small, depressingly dark rooms get to you in the end. Shame owners can't see this as a real negative. Staff good, but the automated room assistance was a let down, so no extra pillow provided, despite sending numerous requests. It's the small things that count.

The Hotel van de Vijsel is a great option near Vondelpark. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The hotel is clean and quiet, it's also in a great area that's walkable to the museum district, Vondelpark, and the west side of the city. Overall a great experience.

Amazing hotel for the price. It is very conveniently located, about 10-15 minute walk to all of the museums, coffee shops, restaurants, etc. The hotel staff is absolutely FANTASTIC! They are all so helpful and kind. They make a point to memorize your name, so everyone in the hotel called me by my name. The rooms and hotel décor are very well done and modern. I will definitely stay here again.

Pleasant Stay

We had a pleasant 4 night stay at the hotel. Twin rooms were small but manageable. Not much space to hang clothes however apart from this the room was ok. Room was expensive for the money paid however as this is Amsterdam €200 a night does not get you much luxury. Would stay at the hotel again if the price was right compared to other hotels in the Museum Quarter.

Enjoyable and conveniently located...

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay April 10-14, 2023. The hotel is near Vondelpark and Museumplein (Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh). Also public transportation is walking distance...#12 Tram at Ledesplein and buses in front of Vondelpark. Walking distance to Centrum and Centraal Station and different neighborhoods - i.e. Jordaan. Nearby restaurants with variation of cuisine - Spanish Tapas, Indonesian, pancakes, etc. Staff is very friendly and extremely helpful. The rooms are somewhat small and lack storage (no closets) and very dim lighting which is part of the building's design with all rooms having floor to ceiling windows. Buffet breakfast has a good variety of foods - fruits, cereals, rolls, coffee, tea, milk, juice, etc. and reasonable price. There is a supermarket right next door to the hotel.

Very clean, friendly, helpful staff, very convenient to museums, nice breakfast ( extra). Room was clean, quiet and provided with usual amenities, but quite small and not we’ll provided with lights.
